In the past couple weeks I’ve spent $600 on my dog’s appointments. The first appointment was necessary- he was due for vet care that we hadn’t gotten since we fled from a natural disaster. It was $500, included shots, check up, snap tests for heartworm and lymes. Lymes came back positive- I opted to pay for extra blood tests, start a script of doxycycline, and start him on a new preventative. They then scheduled an appointment 2 weeks out for a booster shot and test results… except we got the booster and were told techs don’t answer medical questions (even though there’s a tech fee I suppose for the wrist work they do while giving a SubQ shot). For all the money I spent on the extra test and medicine- I’d love to know what’s going on with my dog and what I can do to help him going forward? Are we rechecking his blood in a few months to see if meds did anything? Do we need to? Were his tests okay? Because the printout the tech gave showed that the test is way out of range. Are his kidneys in jeopardy? Are they already damaged?Am I allowed to know anything? So my dog starts puking yesterday and then hacked up a bunch of carpet he was apparently eating from under my bed. His puking lasted most of the day so I decided to call RHAH to see what they think I should do. I was told they wanted to see him this morning for x-rays. But he’s using the bathroom (they asked), and his energy hasn’t changed. So I looked up what vet X-rays are running these days and there’s no way I can spend that much money to people who haven’t answered the questions from my last $600 visit. And furthermore- saying an X-ray is needed that quickly for a dog that’s still passing things… was super eager. To me-* and this part is just opinion*: It feels really grimey and dishonest. It makes me feel like they really need my money without providing the service. My exotic vet doesn’t break my bank as much as this place does.😭😭😭😭 and I just want help for my dog!

I became a client of AHRH about 8 years ago when I had to use their emergency hospital in the middle of the night for my cat, Max, who had kidney stones. My husband was away on business and I had to go through the ordeal alone. Our animals are our children and I was very afraid that I would lose Max that night. Dr. Havier and his staff were so wonderful and literally saved Max's life. He would have died if not for their awesome care. I was so impressed that I immediately changed all my animals over to their facility from my vet at the time even though it was much further away from my home. I have never looked back. They also gave the utmost outstanding care to my beloved German Shepherd, Zara, in the last couple years of her life and with their outstanding care gave her those extra years with us. Everyone in that office from the receptionists to the technicians to the veterinarians themselves are compassionate, friendly, knowledgeable and professional people. They all take the time to get to know your pet and make them feel comfortable in an environment that of course makes them anxious. They even offer the service of coming to your home when it is time to say goodbye to your beloved pet which makes it so much better for you as well as your pet being in their own surroundings. We took advantage of this service and it was the best thing we ever did. I can't say enough about this practice and could go on and on. However, I will leave it at that you and your pet will get the best care for routine visits as well as any emergency care you may need at Animal Hospital of Rocky Hill!

Animal Hospital Of Rocky Hill is great. Dixie is a pretty health dog but has had occasional problems with allergies and ear infections. They always treat her very well whether it’s the father (kind of a history buff, talked to him about WW1 and WW2) son or daughter that’s treating her. It’s also nice when everyone at the vet remembers who your dog is. I live all the way in East Haddam now but will continue to travel to Rocky Hill whenever Dixie needs care.

thank you for professional and high quality service....dedicated, always available, average priced, courteous and accurate in diagnosis!.....Haviar did all those pit-bulls New Year’s day that needed care. Was in the news. Who else would commit to this holiday in that weather? We are proud to call Haviar and his family / co workers our family lifetime vet.

I began taking my dogs to RH Animal Hospital several years ago when it was an ER facility. I had 2 Lab/Great Dane mix females about 10 years old at the time. I wanted to establish with a vet that had ER services. RH stopped being an ER facility about a year ago. Both my dogs had a chronic digestive issue that occassionally warranted a trip to the vet. And each dog had to be kept in-patient during the time they were treated there. All 3 Haviar Drs treated them, along with 2 other vets that work(ed) there. I felt like the care they received was fine, until recently. The administrative staff always seemed chaotic and I had to debate with them several times over what the correct amount was for my bill.2 weeks ago one of my dogs was obviously ill and I took her to see Dr Jason Haviar on a Saturday morning. She had a fever and was in pain. He took xrays and told me there was something in her digestive system, so she must have eaten something. He sent her home with the comments "in case you have to take her in again" if she doesnt get better.I took her to Pieper Memorial that night about 12 hours after her being seen at RH. It was determined she had aspiration pneumonia and by that time sepsis. She died less than 24 hours after seeing Dr Haviar. The vet at Pieper said she didn't see anything in her digestive system in the xrays that would have been causing her illness. I think Dr Haviar just assumed it was digestive because of her history and possibly contributed to the death of my dog. I'll never know if she'd been diagnosed correctly at RH if she would have survived. Too much time passed by the time Pieper treated her. Needless to say I'm heartbroken and will NEVER return to RH.

I rescued a pup from a friend of mine almost 9 years ago. He had a freak accident that broke his femur 3/4 of the way up to his hip, and at the time he was my friend's pup and he was struggling to find a vet that would work with his finances as well as get him the best care available since he wad only 4 months old. The staff and Dr's at Rocky Hill weren't about to save his leg (only because it had been 10 days from the time of the accident, to the surgery) but gave him the best chance at a "normal"life. My friend was unable to care for him being a now handicapped dog but I took him home and became his new mama (although the technicians who helped him would've gladly taken him home too). My dog would get so excited when you'd ask "wanna go see the girls at the vet" and run for his leash, knowing he'd be getting lots of love and to see his friends. I loved the amount of care they took towards their clients and patients so much, I eventually went to work there for almost 2 years before I moved out of state. I would highly recommend anyone to see Dr. Havier and his staff for the best care that won't break the bank and cause you to sell your first born. Thank you SO much to my awesome former colleagues and keep up the great work! We miss you.- Julie &Zeke

Not a fan of this place. Place is a dump and the technicians don’t know anything about dogs. They’re very abusive to animals and they cost to much. I would never go to them again. Do not bother waisting your time.

We recently moved to the area and were in need of a new vet for our dog. The Animal Hospital of Rocky Hill was recommended to us by a family member knowing that our dog is very nervous in new situations and isn’t always the “easiest patient”. We were welcomed with a very generous tote bag filled with both treats and goodies for the dog as well as a folder full of useful information for the owners.Once called into the examination room, the vet tech was welcoming to us and understanding that our dog was very anxious in this new situation. She took her time getting to know our dog and slowly gaining her trust. The vet, too, acted in the same way and they could not have been more patient and gentle with her. We had a successful visit, which is not always the case with our dog and how jumpy she can get.The staff even gave us advice on what we can do to make vet visits more comfortable for all of us in the future – This even included stopping in with her on days she does not have an appointment for “happy visits” so she does not always associate the vet with a scary environment. We greatly appreciated this knowing how busy they must be, having emergency hospital service also on site. All staff at The Animal Hospital of Rocky Hill were extremely friendly and understanding that some dogs need extra special attention and treatment. You can tell they have a true passion for what they do, and I would recommend them to anyone in need of quality care for their pets.

The Vets here are amazing, very nice personable people. Each time I bring my dog in they are so friendly and always make sure all of my questions are answered to my understanding. The Vets themselves are the only reason I continue to bring my dog here. The staff on the other hand is another story, most of them I have felt with are very rude and maybe they are just always stressed and having a bad day but I always sense unnecessary attitude from the staff over the phone.other than that I love thisnplace. Just wish they would hire new staff.

I had my first visit with Animal Hospital of Rocky Hill. I was very pleased with the entire experience. The receptionist was so pleasant, the vet tech was wonderful and the vet Kristin Haviar was absolutely wonderful. She spent so much time listening to my concerns and thoroughly examined my cat Molly who was sick. I felt she genuinely cared about her and also how I was doing too. I have switched both my cats over to this veterinary hospital. I also like that if I have an animal emergency they will have my cats records immediately available as a resource since they are an emergency hospital after hours.

Our neighbors have always highly recommended Animal Hospital of Rocky Hill. After several years with a previous veterinarian we finally decided to switch. I have two dogs and it’s easier for me to bring them separately. I thought it was so nice that the office staff made sure both dogs would be seen by the same doctor so a history can be developed with both the dogs and the owner. Dr. Tatro was great as were the assistants. Office staff were extremely kind, helpful and friendly. Overall a very nice experience.

I was debating writing a review but with my dogs passing I was dealing with the emotional end of loosing my best friend and not my experiences with this establishment. Plus I was always told it’s in bad taste to bash a business. But the saga of this place continues. My family has been going to this place for over 20 years. So naturally when I had found my dog I brought her here after relocating from FL. When I had first brought her I believe this place was 24/7. Unfortunately I do believe this place was run better when Dr Havier was more present. Before I had even told my family my experiences they told me for their new dog they decided to bring him elsewhere. My dog was diagnosed with a severe heart murmur when I had found her which declined into CHF. I was bringing her for visits monthly for check ups on her medications during covid (I wasn’t allowed in). Multiple times I have had issues with their pharmacy which included receiving the wrong meds, or just not filling her script all together. One of those times was on a Thursday and for the holiday weekend my dog was without her medication. During her decline that happened in a week span I had brought her to 3 different ERs previously. First ER visit while they were taking her from me I noticed them trying to muzzle her. When I had asked why they stated there was a note in her file saying she bites. I had her for over 8 years at this point and not once had ever seen her bite or even try to bite ANYONE.. EVER . She was the sweetest dog (nail clippings, bath, shots, etc) not even a snarl. The fourth ER trip of the week I was lucky to catch them while they were open. Like I said I was seeing them for years and always paid my bill. I politely asked if I could pay half, and then them bill me the following half, the next week. The receptionist (older short lady) said “would you go to a grocery store and expect free food?” Coldly While handing over my dog dying of heart failure. Unfortunately, my dog passed that weekend at piper memorial. I had not made them aware partly because I was devastated and partly because of the disrespectful manners along with the carelessness of my dog under their care. Now 10 months later after recovering emotionally and financially I’m looking to rescue a new best friend. I filled out a application to adopt and was told I was not eligible because my dog was not spayed and also was not up to date on one of her vaccines. MY DOG COULD NOT BE SPAYED BECAUSE OF HER HEART CONDITION AND THE ANESTHESIA. This 100 percent should have been noted BOLDLY Incase of emergencies in her file. And also if I was bringing her monthly I would believe I’d be notified that she was in need of a vaccination. Anyways, I don’t have many experiences with different vets but my advisement is to not go here. And I hope I can find a very involved caring vet in the future. ( if I can even rescue one at this point) I don’t blame the rescue I commend them for placing these dogs in the proper care, and would have liked to adopt and have my money go to them and their future rescues. Unfortunately today because of their lousy filing or whatever I was not able to have a new friend.

I came to The Animal Hospital of Rocky Hill August 1, 2018, after a less than pleasant experience with our former vet. Upon my first visit, I was immediately put at ease with how friendly and wonderful the staff and veterinarians were.I had received a second opinion about my puppy’s teeth and Dr. Kristin Haviar recommended that one tooth needed to be extracted due to my puppy having all of her adult teeth behind it. I agreed and made the appointment for the extraction. As a new mommy, I had my concerns and fears of Penelope going under for the procedure.Today was the day of the procedure and the veterinary tech, Emily, not only put me at ease but made Penelope feel super safe and comfortable. As soon as the procedure was over, Emily called with an update and a time window of when I could pick my girl up.Heather, the receptionist that helped me, was extremely kind and attentive with getting me set up with my bill and getting me into a room to see Penelope.I could not be more happy with the quality of care that my best girl and I received. If you are not happy with your current vet, The Animal Hospital of Rocky Hill is the best choice you will make for you and more importantly your pets.

Not a fan of this place. I brought my dog here when he had his first seizure and found that staff is very nonchalant. The vet that saw us initially wanted me to just take my dog home and “see how he does” without doing any bloodwork or tests, I had to insist on doing further examination. They don’t make you feel like they care about the animals.

I had my first visit with my 7 year old dog Joker recently for a physical and vaccinations. From the moment I walked into the practice, the staff was friendly and welcoming. They provided me with a welcome bag which I thought was going above and beyond expectations. They did not keep me waiting long at all before I was brought into an exam room. The staff member who helped before the exam was great with my dog and made him feel very comfortable. Then we saw Dr. Hrynkiewicz who was professional, informative and kind. She made sure I did not leave without my dog receiving all the vaccinations and examinations necessary and answered all my questions. Previously we have only gone to a family member for veterinary care, but Animal Hospital of Rocky Hill really makes you feel like family. Thank you!

The hospital staff was amazing. This past week we brought my dog stella because she was not feeling well. The staff was so caring.very thoughtful. From the front staff who answered all of my questions to the amazing doctors and technicians that helped not only stella but my other two girls Molly and Leah who also became sick with the same virus at a later time. My husband and I are very thankful for the best care my babies received and how the hospital was able to find a spot during the day to see them. We are very grateful to all of the staff and great team of this vet.

Every business is going to occasionally have customers with a bad experience. I have had great experiences with RH over the past 5 years. Dr. Kristen Haviar has always been attentive to my dogs needs and medical conditions. I have brought my dog to RH in need of critical care and was quickly and properly diagnosed and referred out for a higher level of care. The staff at RH has always been welcoming to me and I have never experienced any of the issues being reviewed recently. My dog requires meds and I’m at RH frequently and give my opinion and rating on recent experiences as well. Keep up the good work guys!

I have been with this Animal Hospital for almost 30 years. I travel from East Haven to Rocky Hill for I only want the best care for my animals. The family that has run this veterinary clinic/hospital is the most caring family and has dedicated their lives to the well being of all of our furry family members. I have put all my trust in them and have never been disappointed. They also treat police canine and take in dogs that no one else will. I have never seen the dedication in the manner that they have. You know you are getting the best when bringing your animals here. I am so blessed to listen to someone from Bristol that brings her pets there. It was the best move I ever made.

Our experience was pretty good. Our arrival though could have been better. Our dog ate chocolate late one night and he wasn’t handling it well in his belly. We brought our pup to the emergency vet hospital in rocky hill around midnight. The nurse who let us in didn’t have the best bedside manner. She kind of rushed us and acted as though our visit was an inconvenience. We weren’t informed about being seen by the vet, she took our paperwork and just walked into the back, without saying a word. We waited about 10-15 minutes before she came to bring us to an exam room. The vet was VERY friendly and knowledgeable, and seemed like he cared about our pup. He gave his recommendation in laymen’s terms so we felt comfortable and at ease with the situation. That nurse that greeted us was VERY pleasant in the end upon our exit. She was sweet and explained everything to us. I’m not sure what her deal was in the beginning, but she turned it around and was helpful!

I’ve been taking my dogs to AHRH for years now. Everyone from the Vets, techs to the reception staff is always attentive, prompt to call back and fill meds and (especially now not being able to go into appointments with them), communicate issues, treatments etc.We lost one of our Shepherds to cancer and everyone was so kind, compassionate and gave us time to grieve and say goodbye. ♥️We trust our babies are in great hands here!

We love Animal Hospital of Rocky Hill! The staff helped us make connections to adopt our Boston Terrier Rescues and we head back to Rocky Hill for all our vetting needs. Routine visits are taken care of quickly and efficiently and emergency visits are handled with care and understanding. Dr. Haviar and Dr. Chris take the time to listen to our concerns and explain our treatment option so we can make informed decisions as a team. We feel like we and our dogs (even the grumpy one)are respected and cared for. We will continue to use the animal hospital because the way they treat our dogs as well as the way they treat us

I brought my dog in, they said everything was okay just a little anti-inflammatory medication and all would be well. I called the following day, stated something wasn’t right and was told the vet would call. I spoke to the vet and they said “she needs surgery” and they sent an estimate. Mind you they never did any X-rays. The following week, I brought her back, they said it was the left leg not the right and we went back and forth they brought her back in and said the right was worse than the left but continue the anti-inflammatory she just needed to lose weight and again no imaging was taken. It was bilateral issue with her knees and would worsen overtime. They advised to feed her half a cup of dog food a day. I then decided to bring her back to my original vet over 40 minutes away. I just left the visit to find out yes they were right at rocky hill it is bilateral however with the X-rays it showed her hips never fully developed and that an orthopedic would definitely need to be involved as the weight doesn’t help the issue but another issue is her hips. They also said that half a cup of dog food was not enough. They also mentioned with anti-inflammatory meds they need to check blood work as it can affect their kidney/liver functions especially the amount that is given. Needless to say, the amount of time calling rocky hill, taking time out of work, and the bills I paid was not worth it. I transferred her care now completely to her original vet. There’s plenty of more but rocky hill was quick to schedule a surgery without X-rays and then tell me she didn’t need it she just needed to lose the weight when in reality if they actually did the imaging they would have found what her now vet has. They also never mentioned anything about checking her labs to make sure that the medication wasn’t affecting her kidney/liver.

My husband and I became first-time pet owners two months ago and planned to bring our pet to this clinic after research and also recommendations from acquaintances. We are glad we did! All of the staff are friendly, I never have trouble reaching someone on the phone, and I have been pleased so far with the veterinary care of our puppy. Everyone takes great pains to make sure pets enjoy their experience there and always shower them with (healthy) treats. They have electronic systems and the facilities are always clean and welcoming. There are separate waiting areas for cats and dogs and books for kids to read. I don't have anything negative to say and I there is nothing I can think of to improve upon. I highly recommend the Animal Hospital of Rocky Hill!

Sadly I couldn’t get in right away because of not being a new client there. Jenny the receptionist was very kind and helpful in providing me all the information she could! Asking around to get me the best possible answer to help me out, she was awesome. Would have been a 5 star but one of the other techs that answered was rude and told me to go to Piper memorial instead. Not being a patient matters more than my dogs well being, disappointing will not consider this place at all anymore!

My pups have been patients here for years. Dr. Dave Haviar is the BEST and although we don't always see him, we have never been disappointed by the other medical staff. They are all TOP NOTCH!The ladies that run the front office are always friendly, caring and genuinely love seeing all the animals as they come in.We have been there for everything over the years including routine visits, dietary questions, emergencies and odd things that come up when you are caring for these precious animals. I couldn't imagine bringing my babies anywhere else!!!!Thank you to the entire staff for always giving our pups the best care ever!

Had an appointment for 7/31/2020 with a vet tech for vaccines. Missed the appointment due to an emergency. Tried to rebook 1 week later and they said I would have to book an exam with vet for vaccines costing at least another 200 dollars. Due to Covid I do not have the extra money at this time. I have spent thousands of dollars there with my 3 dogs over the last 10 years. I asked for my dogs records and will never go back. My dog was only 5 days past due for her yearly exam. They don’t care about you or your dogs, only about money. The staff was incredibly rude to me. Find another vet!

We love Animal Hospital of Rocky Hill! Our fur baby had to stay over a few nights when he wasn’t feeling well and everyone from the front desk to the doctors were excellent! I was able to call at anytime for an update and the doctor was kind enough to call me once a day with an update. Clean, friendly environment!

Doc Haviar and his staff have always been there for all our pets and foster’s needs. His personality goes beyond caring for you and your pets. His staff have always been friendly and attentive to answering every call and and work with you and their fees are not as outrageous as other vet clinics

The hospital of Rocky Hill is fabulous. We have been going there for over 20 years with our three pets. The doctors David and Kristin Haviar as well as all the staff are very kind and compassionate. Since they take such excellent care of our pets, it is well worth our half an hour drive from West Hartford.

Just your typical vet that’s out for your money and no genuine care for addressing your pet(s) needs... was informed that my dog would get refill on a allergy med prescription but now they want to charge for animal visit. Allergy is allergy, not much will change by a “visit”... when all they will do is just to give the same medicine over and over. You’d think businesses would be more mindful with how things are going this year... but shows a lot... you lost a customer for that!
