The staff was great! Spent tine answering all my questions and interviewing me to ensure a good fit with the dog I chose. I adopted a beautiful deaf puppy and we could not be happier together. They do a great job caring for and placing pets.

2010 I rescued Lucky, after my husband died and I moved back to Connecticut from Hawaii to be with my family. Lux was 2 they think in 2010. Lux died cancer in 7/11/22. Taken me almost 2 years to get another (heartbroken). Lucky was by my side2010-2021 I miss him so much I still cry! It's 3/2024 can't believe they only allow you to view on line and set APPOINTMENT TO SEE 1 CAT!!!!! HORRIBLE JUST TERRIBLE FOR THE CAT'S WHO NEED A HOME!!! It's important to meet any animals to make sure they want you as you want them. I CAN'T PICK A CAT ONLINE 😳 SERIOUSLY

We have visited many times. My girl scout troop has donated and gotten an awesome behind the scenes tour. Now we have a great new family member!

I really wish it was still possible to visit without appointments..it's such a process to want to see a potential pet and family member

Haven't adopted just yet but have been visiting often looking for a sister or brother for my 5 year old kitty, they have been very helpful with assisting me, making sure that it's the right fit for all involved.

It's pretty messed up that this place can't tell my sister how her cat is doing! Don't know if cupcake is still alive or not!! Just because my sister took her cat there doesn't give you the right not to give her information about her cat

The employees here are kind and considerate even when someone is surrendering an animal. I went here to surrender a family members animal (which I don't really agree with surrendering animals in the first place. They aren't objects and deserve kind, loving homes.) and I was treated with kindness and understanding. I appreciate the cleanliness and attention to detail on forms and the like. If you want to adopt an animal this is a great place to do so as they're cared for and monitored closely for their behavior and information on shots etc.

The online adoption form was so easy to fill out! Saw Snowball on the website and a couple days later the humane society called back. Then i discussed with my family and we picked her up the next day. She's a wonderful addition to our family! The adoption process was explained very thoroughly and they told us all about her needs and vet visit prior to being adopted.

Very clean and pretty happy to see that they only had a few animals up for adoption. I was looking for a cat and there were none available at the time. Very friendly staff at the front desk

Just recently visited and didnt find many cats or dogs for adoption, but I suppose that's a good thing! Either way, the facility is always super clean, the animals are well taken care of, and all in all seem very relaxed and at peace when there waiting for there forever family. The staff are very friendly and helpful. This is definitely the place to go in the area if looking to rescue a well deserving fur baby. Please check them out before going to a breeder! And remember to get your animals spayed and neutered! The less in these places the better right?! Thanks a ton CT Humane Society!! 😻😻😻😻

Pleasantly surprised when I drive up the hill. The facility is awesome, beautiful, spacious and clean! This group, and their employees and volunteers go above and beyond to make all the pets welcome and loved. The kennels are top notch, heated floors, access to outdoor runs, clear doors. The whole place didn't smell like a typical clinic or Kennel, it was so clean and immaculate. Great people, great place, great cause, donate if possible.

The first time my boyfriend applied for a dog someone else got him and we understood but we applied for a cat been waiting for an answer for two days now still nothing but the cat is still up for adoption. This place is so animals can find homes but why make it so complicated to adopt? And why not reply?

I have nothing but good things to say about this place. My last two dogs have both come from there and I could not have been happier with the adoption process. My current dog is now 11 years old and I am so thankful for her presence in my life. She was brought up here from North Carolina and is absolutely the best dog I've ever had. The Humane Society rescued her and her litter mates when they were found abandoned on a road in the mountains. They are a wonderful organization and a terrific place to find your new best friend!

The place is very clean and the animals seem well taken care of. You MUST sign in before seeing the animals and although no sign is posted informing you of this the staff will rudely inform you if you are unaware. I am not familiar with CT shelters, but I have been to multiple shelters in AZ, NV and WI, I have never had to sign in before seeing the animals. They had a nice selection of cats, some small mammals and ONE dog, who wasn't even adoptable. I am happy to see the shelter isn't over crowded, but I would hope they could partner with a shelter that was to help with over crowding and offer dogs for adoption. They were obviously set up to house a decent number of dogs, but don't. I know there are multiple non-profits that specialize in relocating animals from crowded shelters to shelters that have space/a demand for that animal. So why they would only have ONE dog is beyond me. The other staff I encountered ignored me, not even a smile or a hello. They put me off most by being rude. You can ask me to please sign in and have a small selection, but be polite, you don't have to treat me like I am here just to annoy you. I get that it is probably run by volunteers and they may be having a bad day, but you can still act like a decent human being and show some common curtisay.

I called the main number to get information about making bedding for the crates used. Unfortunately there’s a centralized answering service that cannot give you any specific information. I was trying to find out what size the crates were at my local shelter so I could make the right size bedding.

I have adopted all of my pets from this wonderful shelter! My two kitten adoptions were easy of course! Ivy, the runt of her litter, is 18 now and Bandit is now a silly lil 4 year old guy with pica (so I have an obsession with hiding plastic bags and rubber bands even when at family or friends houses 💁😄) My girl, Josie, is the best representation of this shelter's love and care for animals. I saw her on their website and came just for her. A 4 year old tabby found on the streets, with the most beautiful face. When I met her I noticed sneezing and nasal discharge. When I brought this up to staff they immediately told me she wasn't up for adoption until they could get her healthy. After 1 month, and the many calls from me to check up on her, she was able to come home with us! Now 8 years old she is (and always has been) the most mothering cat! She comes running everytime my son cries! And so vocal when it's approaching feeding times! When it's time to adopt again, I'll be coming here!

I care for a lot of feral cats in my area. I’ve been caring for these feral kittens for many weeks. The mother brought them in my basement. I’ve found homes for 2 of the kittens. I’ve not found satisfactory homes for the other two. I call the Humane Society for help. I knew the Humane Society would get them medical care & good homes. They made the process easy for me to bring in the kittens.

Adopted 2 cats from here over 7 years ago. They are both fantastic and are still loving parts of our family. We always recommend our friends to come here for pets. Nice facility clean facility and the people are kind and good hearted. Never had a problem here.

We went in on a Sunday afternoon and it was very busy. Despite that the staff was able to help us pick out two cats, they even took the time to try introducing some of the cats to each other to see if they had any conflicts. They explained the health issues of the older cat and went over all the vaccinations and care received and told us what we needed to do. They even discussed the reasons that the cats were surrendered. We went home with two kitties who are both very friendly and well behaved cats.

I went to adopt a kitty that was a year and a half old, his name is Ben. Rachel at the desk was very friendly and very helpful. She let me spend time with Ben and we connected immediately. The whole experience of adopting Ben was a delight. Ben has adjusted well to his new surroundings and his new home and his new name is Forest.

I have adopted two cats from the Waterford branch of the Humane Society. We adopted our kitten Pac-Man (then Ross) in 2021 and just adopted Moukie yesterday. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about all the staff, especially Rachel, the behaviorist. Both Pac-Man and Moukie had behavioral issues, and Rachel was honest and incredibly helpful with the adjustment period. Pac-Man adjusted to his new life right away, and we are incredibly pleased with how Moukie has been so far, even though we have only had him one day. I will never adopt from anywhere else (even though it is an hour + drive) after the wonderful experience we have had with this branch.

The place was clean, the employees most helpful...but they told us the pup we adopted was in good health, and he was not. He had kennel cough, which cost us quite a bit of money. Also they never mentioned senior discount to us, so make sure you ask. ;-)
