I have been seeing the animal groomer Laura Summer for over 20 years. She is the best groomer in CT. She has done my dogs of the past and recently did Luna my Bernese Mountain. She is kind and courteous and so caring. You can call Animal Hospital of Putnam and make an appointment

Worst place in the world to bring you animal? They tell you something is benign. And then when they go to perform the surgery, they say it's cancer and they won't perform the surgery and then they call animal control on you. I'm telling everybody the truth. This place needs to get shut down. They're not part of the better business bureau association because of their illegal practices. My mother paid a $1000 up front for a surgery that never happened and never got paid back. So you tell me this place should be shut down. They don't care about animals.They only care about money.Money, money that's all they want, and when they don't get it.They try to get you in trouble I am not the only one they have done this to.

Our dog was very ill and our vet who had seen our dogs for 20 years would not fit us in. Dr LaPierre saw us within 30 minutes of our phone call. She evaluated our dog, then sat down with us and explained what needed to be done. Because of the care that our dog received she is back to her bouncy self. ❤️ Thank you

I find these people to be well-educated, friendly and sympathetic. Vets are all expensive. These people work with me to do what is necessary. They do not push hard on trying to sell unneeded items. I've always received great care for my dogs and I trust them to help me make good decisions.

Just don’t go here- it’s a dismal place full of cruel and rude staff. The vet tech and the doctor and really everyone was totally unhelpful, rude, didn’t give any information about anything, and barely talked to me during the visit about her care. It’s an awful place and they don’t care about animals or people. But if you like fascism, rudeness and cruelty then definitely go here.

This vet hospital is absolutely fantastic. Dr. Lapierre is one of the most caring vet doctors. I won't take my animals anywhere else. My dog Truffles recently had surgery on a tumor and they took such great care of her. Also had my cat Oreo checked and they took him in the same day. My cat Cupcake needed an emergency spay cause of an infection in her uterus and without hesitation they took her in. I can't say enough good things about these people.

I have been bringing my pets to Animal Hospital of Putnam for years -- back to when Dr. Smith was the primary vet. I was a bit worried when I learned she was retiring, but I shouldn't have been! Dr. LaPierre has been terrific and has provided top-notch care for my cats and dogs -- some of whom have had very serious health conditions. I have found her to be truly caring, dependable, knowledgeable and responsive -- all of which is so important when you're trying to do the best for your pets. I really do feel like they are in the best possible hands, which goes a long way for peace of mind. The staff is great, too. Highly recommend!

Please be aware, the review below from Bree Hall is spam. This was cut and pasted from a Facebook post on someone else's account. From what I have heard from a tech at a neighboring clinic, that client was "fired" after several instances of swearing and aggressively yelling at the staff. Animal Hospital of Putnam has always taken great care of my pets and I have nothing but good things to say about Dr. LaPierre, Dr. Previe, Steve, and the whole staff. Don't believe everything you see from angry people online. There are good people out there trying to do their best for their patients. Isn't it bad enough they make a fraction of their human counterparts and get bitten, scratched, and pooped on for a living? We love AHOP. Thank you so much for taking great care of my babies and pay no mind to those who just want to watch the world burn.

My 95 year old mother came to visit for Thanksgiving and the next day her 16 year old Chihuahua became very sick with respiratory distress. I called the office and was told to bring him in immediately. The doctor and staff were amazing and so kind. After testing my mother's dog , Schultze, was was placed in oxygen and given multiple meds. After several hours we were able to pick him up and take him home. I can't tell you how wonderful everyone treated us and I will definately recommend them. Thank you again.

Like to share my experience… I have been a client of Animal Hospital of Putnam for over 25 years. I was completely blindsided by the despicable treatment I recently received. Zefr, my 16 year old Yorkie was under the care of Dr. Lapiere for a lump near her lungs. Due to her age, I opted for no invasive testing to determine malignancy. Our agreed plan was to measure monthly and monitor her condition.  She was prescribed meds and fortunately her condition remained status quo. After the holidays, Zefr experienced some minor intestinal issues. Being paranoid and  nervous of her condition, I called AHOP to see if Dr. L wanted to see her. I left a message for a callback. I immediately  received a call from Steven Pepper, strongly advising me he was “Practice Manager,” and Dr. L was too busy to see me.  However, he would “gladly make an appointment that day for euthanasia.” He proceeded to tell me that Zefr had cancer, and this decision should have been made by me much sooner. I was floored, considering there had been no testing, and I was not made aware of this. He then informed me he just put his dog down and “ I should move on.”Anyone that knows me knows how I regard my pups. His condescension and vile demeanor was superseded only by his lack of compassion.  It was troubling how his insensitivity and lack of heart came so effortlessly. I noticed a severe decline in service when this business was sold, yet I still stayed. I guess that’s my fault. …If you want to know what Animal Hospital of Putnam is NOT, read“ABOUT US” on their website.My apologies for this lengthy diatribe.Zef crossed over the rainbow bridge in the arms of a caring and empathetic vet that came to my home. If this can save just one pet parent from being unreasonably mistreated , Zefr would be proud ….🐶🐶😔

I have been going to animal hospital for about 20 years. The staff has always been wonderful and caring. Dr Smith is always wonderful and forthcoming about your pet. Now there is others veterinarians there that are wonderful and helpful and just as caring which makes you feel good about taking your per there. They always give you tender care when you have to bring your pet in to meet the rainbow. They are beautiful people and I appreciate all of them thanks for your caring..

This is a great place to board my cat. She is treated well and Sue the person in charge goes out of her way to make my Shadow feel right at home. I'm never concerned about Shadow after leaving her there. Infact when she gets home she wants that special treatment. Cost isn't bad and I do get a senior discount.

I rarely post reviews but after reading a few of these I felt compelled. First, everything dies - unfortunately an animal can't vocalize and are rather stoic to begin with. Often they are in worse shape than we think they are before it becomes apparent our help is needed. Some folks like to blame, I suppose it makes them feel better. People die too - cancer for example, it kills a lot of us. This doesn't mean every oncologist that loses a patient is incompetent. I and my animals have been clients for over 20 years with nothing but positive experiences and always at a good price. That includes a put to sleep, compound fractures, and some long term illnesses that require maintenance. By the way, whether or not your loved one passes, that oncologist, much like your local vet, expects to be paid for services rendered. Anyway, my humble opinion. Good practice, knowledgeable staff, compassionate, fair prices, AND BEST AVAILABILITY AROUND!! Nice to have someone work to accommodate my hours and for that I say thank you.

My wife and I couldn't have been happier with the care they gave our dogs. From both the routine care to the intensive treatments one of our dogs needed, they were courteous, professional, and friendly, all while providing top notch care to our fur babies. Even when one of our dogs decided she REALLY had to go while in the exam room they never got mad or upset.

Took our recently rescued female Boston Terrier for her first post-adoption Vet visit.Like many other various professional firms, we we're asked to wait in the car until an employee came out to 'check' her in. The technician asked very sensible questions and took her in for examination by the doctor. After about 30 minutes, the Doctor called our cell phone and answered about a dozen questions that I had written out. Two injections, a comprehensive wellness exam, and about 15 minutes of dialogue with the doctor was a bit over $180.I don't know what to expect in a non-covid veterinarian world, but for the present, I feel relatively comfortable with the service so far

UPDATE*** the new management is rude and uncaring. They refused to see me with a suck litter of pups that I had a scheduled appointment for.... Going downhill fast Definitely not Dr. Smith. Dr. Lapierre is awesome to work with! They are great and help us out with our rescue dogs.

I have had Dr.Smith as my veterinarian since she first began her veterinary career. I have entrusted all my animals to her. The animal hospital of Putnam has a wonderful staff, all the techs are caring and polite. I am treated, as my animals, as family when I have an appointment. The Veterinarian's on staff are informative with needed information about your animals and are very compassionate at the worst times.

Absolutely love this place! I used to take my pets to a closer vet, but the treatment and pricing make it worth the extra time to get there. The staff are all extremely helpful and although some are obviously more pet knowledgeable than others, we are able to get all our questions answered. My pets have had numerous health issues, even requiring emergency care and the doctors and staff were exceptional during these scares. I love that no matter what is going on or what time of the day/night that if my pets need attention, I just call them and they are taken care of; they see the pets at their facility so you don't get referred to an emergency office where you or your pet has never been to. Their prices are very reasonable and they understand that although your pet is a family member, finances are a concern, so they try to work with you whenever possible, keeping the pet's well being in mind.

Wonderful wonderful experience with this vet. They genuinely saved my dogs' life after he was run over by the UPS truck. Poor old Rusty is getting on and moves slow and is hard of hearing. He was outside napping in the driveway and didn't hear the truck but he started screaming with blood just dripping from his mouth. I called my vet but they couldn't see him so I just drove to the next town and Putnam vet took him right away. Turns out he had a broken jaw and a popped lung. Dr. Smith and everyone else there was so kind and caring. I was crying like a baby. They kept him there a few days to fix him up and he was wagging when I went to pick him up. I am so thankful for their expertise and truly caring about what I was going through. They truly are the best! They also put Rusty on some new medicine that is making him alot more active again.

Attempted to make an appointment to get my sick cat seen. Was told they have no openings till next week which was fine and asked to get an appointment set up. The receptionist then attempted to talk me out of the appointment listing extremely expensive options for my pet at different emergency hospitals which is far too out of my price range. Not sure why she'd say they are taking new clients then not giving me an appointment the following week. I can not suggest a place who does this to a pet.

I’ve been going to them for 9 years and never had a problem until today my dog was bleeding and they refused to see us for not having a payment when asked if they could charge me on Friday when I get paid they refused. You think you have a good veterinarian for your animal until you tell them you can’t pay until Friday. They still refused us even though we’ve always paid without a problem.

It's okay but I find that there prices are high and I know my 🐈 is not the best patient but they want me to dose her up with gabapentin to calm her down but she has an issue with her breathing and they know this because I have been taking her there since she was a kitten and they sent me to Tufts to have her fixed because of her breathing issue so why would I give her something that's going to slow down her breathing. LoL. Of course there isn't a vet anywhere in the state of Connecticut that has low income prices or prices that go by your income. But they are very nice people and sometimes I do what I have to do.

Animal hospital of Putnam is the best vet in the quiet corner. They have been nothing but kind to me and my dogs, and they answer all of my (many) questions with patience.I recently had an emergency situation involving both of my dogs, and not only did they fit me right in to their busy schedule, they also helped me calm down and provided me with information about what happened and how to avoid it if it ever happens in the future.I also think that their prices are very fair. The exam fee that I paid for both of my dogs was way less than the exam fee I have paid at another local vet.All in all, I will definitely always take all of my pets to AHOP from now on, based on the positive experiences I have had.
