This store was clean and well organized. My issue was at checkout. I was charged for a bunch of beets when I had purchased a bunch of radishes so I was overcharged. I didn't figure it out until I was home and I reviewed my receipt. Other than that it was a fine experience.

Nestled in the heart of Portland, CT, Adams Hometown Market exudes a charming and welcoming atmosphere. With its quaint facade and warm, friendly staff, this market captures the essence of a close-knit community. The selection of fresh produce is a highlight, showcasing locally sourced fruits and vegetables that burst with flavor. From vibrant heirloom tomatoes to crisp apples, the market's commitment to quality is evident in every aisle. The bakery section is a delight, offering a tempting array of artisanal bread and pastries that cater to diverse tastes. What sets this market apart is its dedication to supporting local vendors. A variety of handmade crafts, jams, and specialty products line the shelves, giving customers a taste of the region's unique offerings. The market serves as a hub for community engagement, hosting events that bring residents together to celebrate local culture.Navigating through the aisles feels like a nostalgic journey, reminiscent of simpler times. The prices are reasonable, making it accessible to all, and the personalized service from familiar faces adds a personal touch that elevates the overall shopping experience. In essence, this hometown market in Portland, CT, is not just a place to shop; it's a cornerstone of community spirit, where quality meets authenticity.

Convenient to have a store in town but this place is kinda sad. This store has such hit or miss produce it's not even funny. Moldy peaches and bad onions are a regular on their shelves. The milk is likely expired or about to be. The precut deli meat might be funky. You just never know what you're going to get. It's almost impossible to find a red onion that isn't slimy and rotten. That said the bakery is not bad and the people are nice. Seeing that they change people often coupled with stories I have been told from past employees, is that they don't treat their employees well. Hopefully something changes since they are the only game in town.

Great local market ....But since Patrick is no longer an employee it shows ... Items missing and his area not cared for. He worked hard and I'm sure he is missed .Good luck Pat, it was always nice to see you !

I love this little IGA. Has everything you need with a few surprise boutique items. Small town service and flavor

Quality of produce has plummeted. I've gone & found rotted produce on shelf, come back couple days later & same produce still on shelf but more rotten.Quality is still disappointing. Cilantro I bought very lacking in flavor, I think the suppliers must be the same as Stop & Shop because theirs was awful too.

It's a place to go when you need something quick and don't want to drive 20 minutes because there's nothing else. Their deli and butcher are nice and have the best deals, everything else is crazy priced.

Hoodwinked!! My wife was excited to find the perfect buttercream frosted cake. When we tried it, we found that it was NOT buttercream frosting, but rather it was some kind of artificial-tasting marshmallow based ick. She swore it said buttercream. Upon closer examination, however we found it actually said.”BETTERCREME”. Clearly intended to mislead. Cake was tossed. Will not return.

The staff is wonderful, the place is cleanable set yp beautifully. The only problem I have besides prices is that portions are always family style. I live aline and would live to just buy half a check, one or two breadts depending on size etc.Discounts are like that too, I have tobuy 3 avos to get it cheaper etc. I hate wasting food and for some reason it goes into freezer to die. Whic you had more keto friendly breads and Flatbread etc

Good selection of produce. But I'd say that prices are quite higher than average on almost everything.

First visit was all positive. Lots of options of to go items to chose from. Deli server was fantastic, which is hard to find at the bigger markets.

Our go to market. It's small but we'll stocked and the hot bar is a great place to pick up a nice dinner at a reasonable price when we get too busy to cook. Excellent bakery, great veggies and even a beer cave and a florist.

Local items and prices that rival larger stores that sell lower quality merchandise. Smaller selection is fine unless you're trying to "stock up." The new prepared food cooler in the produce area has excellent quality and variety. The new renovation has really done this store a world of good.

Tell me why they let dogs in and lick all the food and shed all over produce. It's not a service dog its not muzzled I'm going to get bitten and I'm going to rename the store after me.

We go here to fill in gaps from our grocery pick-up at a larger store. There's a small but nice organic produce section. They have a surprising number of products we love such as organic canned tomatoes, organic soy products, and natural cleaning products.

Many high quality specialty items for a small local market. Could easily make a nice welcome basket of condiments, jams jellys, cheeses, meats, etc. As well as general grocery shopping for the family. Moderately priced. Got everything we needed for Super Bowl Sunday.

This a small town grocery store that has just about everything you need and it won't cost you an arm and a leg to get it.After a couple visits I am now calling this our grocery store of choice. Sure I may find some things cheaper somewhere else, but this is close to home. As long as the prices are reasonable I'll keep coming here. Oh and they have a great cheese selection!!!

I have seen this store go through a complete metamorphosis since Adams took over. They seem to be aware of overall needs of local shoppers and carry a relatively good selection of organic and grass fed meat and poultry as well as wild caught seafoods. The wait time at seafood, deli and prepared food areas is minimal and the staff at these areas as well as at the checkout are helpful and friendly. I also notice that they seem to retain workers which is frequently a sign of good management. This small town is fortunate to have such a great store.

With a smaller footprint than many grocery stores, it does an outstanding job in providing a complete range of products from staples to gourmet items. The cashiers are pleasant and commodious. It's a pleasure shopping there.

Clean inside and friendly staff, but holy price gauge. Worse than stop and shop prices! Also, they aren't really allergen friendly. Got already prepared mashed potatoes and the label said produced around tree nuts, milk, dairy, eggs, soy, wheat .. same with the bread.

The store is nice. Easy to navigate. The fruit tart used to be my favorite here till the recipe changed recently and they added a chocolate coat to a regular fruit tart.

I have been going to adams for over 2 years now and I don't understand how it's still open. Raw chicken cutlets in the deli, bread from the bakery that has mold in <2 days, constantly out of stock of assorted items for weeks at a time, ceasing to stock products that were being purchased, a weird smell in the produce department... If I didn't live so close I would cease shopping here entirely, and convenience is the only reason they even get a 2nd star. Do not recommend, just drive over to Cromwell or up Washington street.

I love the seafood and meat department. I think the quality and price is better than the bigger chain stores. The produce department is also varied and fresh. Overall prices are higher than the chains. The staff are friendly.

The store recently went thru a complete renovation and looks great! They have a very nice prepared foods section where you can get many hot items ready to eat. Also rotisserie chickens and $5 sushi Wednesdays with most prepared on site sushi items for only 5 bucks! It's our new go to each week for sushi! This is not the old Tri-Town food store that used to be here, try it out yourself.

Very good except because I am short I have a hard time reaching the small bottles of Bolthouse Farms juice. I always have to wait for a person to reach them. My husband loves the hot food for lunch or supper well maintained.

Bought these "FRESH" mussles today at Adams in Portland. This is what they looked like when I opened them at home 20 min later.Half of them were already opened up and STUNK ! Could not see or smell this in the closed package at the store. Below left is one that I cooked because the shell was still closed in the package. Maybe their seafood manager should eat it

I'm local to this market (Portland)and go here out of convenience. So this review is not just from one experance but quite a few. This last one was the one that has me finally fed up. Buyer we ware, check your receipt. More then a handful of times they over charged me on items. For example today they had a sale on stuffed bread $5, at the register $6.45 full price. I would of gone back but my 11 month old was screaming didn't want to deal with it over $1.45 but like I said this was not the first time, not 4th time either. To be honest over the last 3 years my wife and I lost count. The second is their produce, awful! From a far it looks nice and clean. I've brought home rotten onions, clementines, grapes and grape tomatoes that had mold, avocado that's black when you open. I cant go back every time I find this when I go home. So how much money has this grocery store cheated me? Maybe I should inspect the product more carefully, but do I have to be a part time FDA inspector to go grocery shopping, I cant trust that they are looking at their own products?Fed up!
