This is a cute 50s theme ice cream shoppe that also has shaved ice (although I’ve never had it here). Staff is friendly and they have a good variety of flavors for ice cream and also have the typical soft ice cream too! They make a variety of different ice cream dishes and you can certainly find something you will like! The 4 stars is based on the large variety they offer and they have great sundaes too! The ice cream in my opinion is good but nothing out of the ordinary. It’s not home made. Overall, when we are in the area we will grab ice cream here and it’s open year round!

Lots of options including vegan non dairy and frozen yogurt. Lots of flavors to choose from. Generous amounts. Friendly service. Not overly crowded. Very good pricing. You won't be disappointed that you stopped here for icecream or shaved ice or a float or shake. You can reuse the green shaved ice cup also as a planter.

Horrible experience. Soft serve dipped was ruined the first time, during the second attempt the server did not even dip the cone he drizzled a small amount over the top. The milk shake had to be remade twice because it was genuinely milk with a scoop of ice cream… both times equally thin and milky. When asked for a banana split, server said all the bananas are “bad” so instead a sundae was ordered. The sundae was given with only whipped cream and a cherry. Server did not ask for toppings of any sort. Very disappointing. The place smelt bad and the tables were wiggling. The floors were extremely dirty. The service was poor and took a lengthy time. Server was alone, maybe was 17 years old and was obviously stressed.

So happy to find Hawaiian style shaved ice! You can ask for more than 1 flavor :) I got strawberry & banana then added soft serve vanilla to the bottom. Next time I think I’ll do hard ice cream because it melted by the time I got to the bottom. I also picked up a pint of NSA Coffee Toffee to go.Service was great & the atmosphere is so cute!Street parking is easier than trying to park in the back. Bit hard to figure out which stalls are for the businesses vs apartments.

What a great spot to stop for a quick treat while you walk around westerly. Very clean and very friendly staff. The prices are also very reasonable.

My son and I stopped here after his riding lesson one day and OMG...this place is AMAZING!! We recently moved right down the street, and this is definitely a place we will be visiting often! We both got this ‘Death By Chocolate’ brownie/ice cream/hot fudge concoction, and it was phenomenal. We couldn’t finish them, so we took them home and put them in the freezer and were able to have ice cream the next day as well! Their menu is HUGE and the service was very fast and friendly. We absolutely recommend this place!

They ice cream here is to die for. Smooth and creamy with lots of choices. They also have frozen chocolate bananas and shaved ice just to name a few other cold treats. The owner is also super nice which always makes it a nice place to frequent.

Going to Mel's is one of my favorite things to do when I vacation in the area. The shop is so cute, the staff is super friendly, and the treats are to die for! I really recommend the Chocolate Lover's Dream. Everything is good though. They never miss here.Thanks for another fun summer memory. Looking forward to next year.

Mel's downtown creamery is such an absolute amazing establishment for ice cream i mean wow!!! Fantastic flavors and the staff there makes it so hospitable and makes you feel right at home as soon as u enter it's so beautiful! Mel herself is such a amazing and passionate person so puts her all into all that she does for the community Mel's is a wonderful Person

I have to say that this place is pretty cool. On my top favourite list but hasn't made the top 10 list. I'm definitely into the menu the the ice cream they have. I was hoping when I had my massive cookie shake made with what appeared to be soft ice cream I was a little disappointed. The ice cream sandwich was soft serve also. Ehhhh gonna have to make a trip down to westerly again when it wasn't raining and enjoy my tasty treat outside.

The ice cream itself is on the watery side. Ordered pistachio and black raspberry. Pistachio tasted like it's made with almond flavor and black raspberry is very acidic. The place is busy though with lots of kids, I'm sure due to the fun decor/theme and prime location as it cannot be due to the quality of the hard ice cream. They also use styrofoam cups which are a no no and the trash was overflowing.

A 50's throwback ice cream parlor. We have been going for a few years and the last time we went I was very disappointed. I ordered the chocolate peanut butter cup and there was no pb to be found I tried to dig around to search for it but had lots of trouble cause the spoon they give u is so cheap it kept bending with the hard ice cream. The floor was so dirty our shoes kept sticking to it. The three girls behind the counter were not very personable and extremely slow. Not sure what happened but it's definitely not the same. Threw most of my ice cream away and left to go somewhere else.

Ice cream was ok but the shop had garbage overflowing the bin and full of dirty tables. The cooler was full of fingerprints. It doesn't seem cleanliness is a priority here. I expected more but was disappointed.. They also seemed short staff with only person behind the counter. This gives the impression management doesn't really care about the place. The ice cream was ok, but lots other good ice cream in mystic a few minutes away.

Stopped in on a trip to RI and was very pleased with the store and especially the ice cream!!! There was a long line but the staff handled it well and with a smile! I will definitely go back!

Such a cool little old-fashioned ice cream shop with dozens of flavors. Dairy-free and sugar free options. Shakes, sundaes and so much more. Well worth the trip!

We love this place. We always get the tornados they are very good and a great value for the small size. The last few trips have been frustrating as they have only one person working and a small line can take upwards of 20 minutes to get served. The ice cream has tasted a little different so I am not sure if they have changed to a new soft serve mix. It is definitely a 4 to 5 star place, but needs more staff on as there used to be more people working.

It was ok! but the people who waited on us we very unpleasant. They were so super busy and should of been happy!!! The tables were filthy. Come on your selling ice cream!! We got through 6 and 1/4 miles Mountain biking and needed a much needed treat! The ice cream was good on a positive.

Love this place, the atmosphere has that 1950's vibe and a variety of ice cream flavors to pick from. Definitely, worth stopping if you're in the area.

Lovely little ice cream shop! A little 1950's nostalgia with tunes and setting that is just right for the area! Del's soft frozen lemonade is incredible! The hand-dipped ice cream selection never fails to impress. Lovely smiling faces behind the counter too! Love this place!

The only true local place to get Hawaiian Shaved Ice. Others will tell you it's shaved ice but the consistency isn't right. Mel's has got the proper gear and talent, wrapped up in a 50s style creamery setting. The staff are teenagers and can be hit or miss sometimes, but they are never rude.

Great little local Ice Cream Shop. Very friendly staff and quick service. They use Bliss Brothers ice cream which is local (Attleboro, MA.) & delicious. They also have gluten free options and serve Dave's Coffee.

The icecream menu here is pretty expansive! We enjoyed our flavors but the sorbet we had was kind of strange and didn't seem to melt even when it was getting warm so we couldn't get ourselves to finish that. So I recommend sticking to the delicious icecream!
