We purchased a puppy from here in 2019 and yesterday while we were in the area, we decided to stop by. When we arrived, the store associate was super pleasant, knowledgeable and attentive. About 20 minutes into us being there, the manager came in and instead of greeting the associate, or costumers she started to scold the employee about how she packaged the last order. (She walked passed the Hispanic family as they walked by with their fish and didn’t seem to greet them either) By this time, although initially not the intent, my husband and daughter were interested in one of the puppies. We planned to return with our 9yr old twins and see how they felt about the puppy. As someone who’s worked 10yrs in customer service and now works as a mental health professional I can sense discrimination, observe body language and recognize negativity. The woman was staring at my brown children and looked annoyed; then made a comment to the associate about where my daughter was standing with the dog. As a manager/owner of the store (standing just a few feet away from us) she could’ve voiced her concerns in a more polite or direct manner- she could’ve spoken TO us rather than ABOUT us considering how close we were standing. It was clear that she felt she was above everyone else in that room and at that moment I told my husband we had to leave. In the car I explained that we would not be returning with the boys and in fact would not ever again support a business that treated people of color this way. My family was very sad but we teach our kids to go where you are welcomed, not where you are tolerated- especially when your money is involved. Also, the reason my daughter was standing where she was with the dog was because the floor was very wet and smelled like bleach. That is obviously not safe for animals and we were worried about slipping and getting it on our clothes. Thankfully we have other options and will continue to make informed decisions when we’re ready to own a new pet- I hope this review helps someone else in making their own decision as well.

Such an amazing store. The employees are so sweet and so knowledgeable. The puppies are so cute and to can tell they are loved and taking good care of. I love how the hamsters have huts and wheels and the small animals look very healthy. Will be back again soon

We stopped in this store after a stressful day and it made us so happy! The animals were friendly and looked very clean and healthy. We loved being able to pet the bunnies! We are partial to golden retrievers and have been thinking about getting one again. They had the most beautiful boy golden that we had to just meet and of course fell in love. I usually am not one to buy at pet stores because I worry about the history, but the staff assured me he came from a reputable akc breeder. I could tell he looked very healthy and well cared for. The staff was very helpful and kind. We ended up purchasing from this store and I would highly recommend them. They were patient with us and answered all of our questions. Thank you!

Best place to get a fur baby , all the employees are friendly and answer any questions . Just got our cockapoo puppy from here and she is healthy loving and the best we have ever gotten . 1000 percent recommend this pet shop .Update : 6 months later and I’m so happy I bought my cockapoo here ! She is healthy and full of energy . Picture of when I first got her and now . Couldn’t imagine life without her now ❤️

A to Z pets if you read this please please take out the horrible shavings in the puppy enclosures. They can ingest it and become sick, and get in their eyes. Use towels! Replace them daily. Have someone take them and go to a laundromat to wash them but your enclosures are inappropriate. None of the puppies had water when I went in. And the bone type toy is too hard for baby teeth- they will break, use a kong type toy instead.I’m against selling puppies in a pet store but since this still exists I just wanted to help point you in a better direction of care for these precious animals

I had brought a small white bunny here on nov 12 less then two months ago they couldn’t tell me anything about it. How old it was or nothing they didn’t have any information on it and it just died today. Please don’t believe them when they say a “veterinarian” comes to check out their animals because they would have given me information on the rabbit

I would say about a year ago we adopted a dachshund from this place and were told that she had been vaccinated dewormed and had weekly check ups just to come home and find out that she had Giardia and that she had her vaccinations WAY to early so if your trying to get a dog DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE edit: stop the cap

I went to see if they had ferrets for sale. I bought my ferret August of 2022 when she was 3 months old. I went today at 5:20 PM 11/5/23 too see a ferret, they had a 3 month old male dusty white ferret and he was all skin and bone. He was severely malnourished. I don’t know if he’s sick or they don’t feed him enough but it was really sad to see. Please do better.

I absolutely love this place! I have been looking for an axolotl for months and A to Z was the only place I could find one. He is an adorable happy, healthy axolotl and In couldn't be more pleased. When checking out I had an issue with my apple pay and Miriam went above and beyond helping me at check out. In would love to support this place in any way I can.

Bought Moose here as a pup at 12 weeks turned out he’s a great dog,super smart and super protective for a 110 pound lab may be due to his size because he’s built like a Diesel Farm Truck and even my Veterinarian has complemented on his great genetics that he comes from awesome stock so these folks definitely bring in good pups and they care enough not to purchase puppy mill dogs super happy with my Moose and would recommend to anyone looking for good pups and a best friend for life give this place a shot you won’t be disappointed.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would! This place is terribly unpleasant. Why do these puppies have newspaper and hamster material in their cage. Some dogs have been matted for weeks you can tell! I had to tell one of their lady sellers that the poor dog had paper residue in their water bowl. (She gave me the weirdest attitude, as if it bothered her what I told her) Some puppies had not water, no food, they hide the water bottles within the door so you won't see if they have water. DO NOT GO HERE!

They get all these poor puppy's from puppy Mills. I bought a dog from here and it broke my heart after finding out the real facts. Do not buy a dog from here! Please go to a reputable breeder in ur area. If u want proof I have it email me . Look up Bailing out Benji! Don't break your heart or your pockets supporting pos like this. Shame on all of you who own and work here.

The establishment is very resourceful, good prices animals look healthy and ready to go to a new home. But their business skills sucks, one employee explain to my wife what was the cost of purchasing a dog. My wife saw the dog she wanted. they set all the paperwork up,the loan went through and we had to dish out a few $100 okay . We was already set to pick up the dog in the morning and pay to this other employee that was not part of the process came with another price. Increasing the price of the dog . So be aware . They didn't increase the price $100 but a few hundred dollars make it in a few grand that we would have to pay even though the loan was paying majority of the cost.

This has to be one of the worst pet shops I ever been to. I went there not looking to buy a dog but ended up falling in love with one of them so I bought it. Thank god I did because this poor dog was so malnourished, he had one of the worst ear infections I’ve ever seen and he had a case of kennel cough. His ribs were clearly visible. When I took him to the Vet to get checked up, the veterinarian was in pure shock. This place is just dirty. These people are here to just sell animals and make their money. Shame on this place and their employees for not caring as much as they should. For anyone who cares, my dog is doing wonderful now because he’s in the hands of someone who cares. Shut this place down please.

I visited this pet store when they first moved to this location. Staff was super helpful. All the animals cages were clean. All the puppies were happy and playing. I immediately fell in love with a Bullmastiff puppy they had and I’ve had him ever since. He is now 5 years old. AKC registered. No health problems. No issues. He came with the cutest puppy pack. My house got robbed and I lost his paperwork, called them up and they were great with helping me get copies. Definitely recommend giving one of their pups a furever home!

Went to look for a puppy and one of the ladies working there brought one out and said "this one's wheezing" to the other girl working there. The dog was. I used to work for a vet. It was definitely kennel cough. For the price of these dogs the thought of paying that much for a sick one made me go elsewhere quickly

Bought a Husky from them back in December and was such an easy process. Absolutely loved the staff here. Blue has been a wonderful puppy, no problems with her at all. Such a happy, healthy pup. The store is very clean and the puppies are all taken great care of. I have been nothing but grateful to have bought Blue from here. Would recommend anyone looking for a puppy to come to A to Z Pet and buy from them!!!

The place has nice staff and a ok selection of dogs. The big downfall here is the price of the dogs! They are EXTREMELY high! Like out of this world high. You would expect to buy a dog and receive a diamond encrusted 24k gold dog leash with every purchase. I can can go to a local experienced breeder and pay a 1/4 of the cost. Which we did... but seriously I won't give the prices away. I don't want to ruin your laughter, you find out. 🤦‍♂️

My boyfriend brought home the absolute sweetest little puppy from this place... however, her temperament has nothing to do with the treatment she had received while there. We brought her to the vet the next day from bringing her home and he noted she had a double ear infection that should have been treated and he also noted she was significantly malnourished. She was also matted in urine as well. Who knows what would have happened if my boyfriend had left her there.

The customer service is terrible, they kept looking a me and my family like we were going to steal or racially profiling us. Was being a rude to my mother and there was such an weird feeling in that pet shop. It didn’t seem like they known much about dogs and the last time we had to bring a dog back bc the dog was sick and come to find out all the other dogs in there were sick. Also, one person who worked there said they never owned a dog. If I could give this place 0 stars I would.

The staff is extremely friendly but if you are going to buy a bird be aware that their prices are marked up 200% of industry standard. When I went there was a baby lovebird that looked to be sick and injured to some extent. He was 345$ which is ridiculous considering breeders sell them for 150-170$. They do not provide their birds with toys or anything to play with while in their cages. The poor thing was leaning on one leg and would barely ever use his left one, while breathing very heavily and showing signs of discomfort (opening and closing mouth frequently in a yawning motion with his feathers puffed up all the time) this is not normal behavior for a healthy bird. If you do buy birds from this place I strongly suggest taking them to the vet to make sure they aren’t in any pain or they aren’t sick.

Wow what a great pet shop! Definitely my new go to! They are family owned and they have everything the big chain stores have if not more. There have dogs, small animals, lizards, food, toys, cage, kennels, etc.. The store smells great. Very clean and organized. Today we called ahead asking if they had what we were looking for; since Covid restrictions everyone is out of stock. Of course they didn't. We moved on calling other stores. A couple of hours later we received a call back asking if we were still looking and they just got it in!! Amazing customer service!!The staff was very helpful and they know what they are talking about (seems they really like working there, unlike some of the chain pet stores). If you need anything for your pet give them a call or swing by you won't be disappointed.Just an fyi A to Z Pet Shop also has a second location in Derby.
