It was a shock coming in to Choice Pet again after a year of choosing not to shop there! It was like day and night! I’m so thankful and happy to see the new management at this location. I stopped shopping here because it had become so dirty and always had stock issues. The employees were rude and didn’t ever seem to be happy! Not exactly a place I want to spend my money! But now it is so clean and always smells so good. Stock has become so much better and if they don’t have something I need, they order it for me within the same week! The baths are spotless whenever I come in to wash my dogs. The manager there now is amazing and always so helpful. Always smiling and asking if we need help with anything! So glad I made the choice to come back! Keep up the good work because it’s appreciated!

The one good thing I like about this place is the grooming tubs you can rent. HOWEVER don't show up ANYWHERE near closing.. I got there 7:45 ...75-min before close and they refused to let me use it. REDICULOUS. It takes me 20-30minutes TOPS to wash my med dog AND They know me and I ALWAYS CLEAN AS I GO so virtually no cleanup when I'm done. Lazy! And BAD BIZ. Guess 45min wouldn't have been enuf time seeing the store was empty and I wonder why...

I have been to this Choice Pet location in Old Saybrook many times now, and I have always had a good experience. I love that they carry Open Farm dog food, as this has been a great food for our two pups, and I previously had to purchase it online since there wasn’t a place convenient/close enough to get it (and that would have it consistently in stock). But Choice Pet has a good variety of food, treats, dog toys, and whatever else we might need. Every staff member I have encountered had been so friendly and helpful. The prices are fair (often even cheaper than I used to pay online), and the rewards program helps as well. The pups love going to visit too!

I dealt with Ceasar and he was amazing. I needed 2 flea collars that I saw on the Walmart but they didn't have in the 2 pack. He went out of his way to call the Walmart which of course didn't help us. I drove to Walmart and of course they weren't in stock so I drove back to his store to buy 2 off him because of his customer service.

I would have never thought about writing a bad review until the experience I had today. I've come to choice pet for all of my dog's baths (because we don't have the amenities to bathe him at home) and I exclusively buy his food from this store. My dog was skunked a few months ago and we have been struggling to get the smell off his head because we don't have good bath amenities at home. I went to the store to hopefully finally get the last bit of skunk smell off of him (and also to give him a normal bath because he was due) but I was turned away by the employee working because she could smell the traces left of when he got skunked. I am highly disappointed in Choice Pet and this policy. Now I am left to struggle bathing my dog with the garden hose at home.

We just got a puppy and really enjoyed our experience here! The man that helped us (sorry I can’t remember his name but he looked a little like Bo Burnham?) was super nice and very knowledgeable. He knew a lot about the nutritional value of different dog foods and was genuine about which products were worth buying and which weren’t. Our go-to pet store going forward!

Not sure if it’s the pandemic and lack of workers and everyone is overworked or if we all just got spoiled shopping at petValu over there with the wonderful, knowledgeable, caring employees that worked there. Choice pets prices are comparable to locally owned businesses so we should all be supporting local small businesses anyway! Oh and the training lead i purchased there malfunctioned 2 days after i bought it. Thank God that did not turn into a disaster!!

Could not even buy a bag of dog food, without the young man working insulting the brand. I bought Merrick at Pet Smart without incident for years. I was told they don't care for that brand and are limitting. He offered to special order but it would be days. Why would I order when every other pet store carries it? He was full of questionable facts, partial truths and nothing I did not know. Clearlythey are attempting to sell particular brands. As a pet owner of 2 with special needs I will not be guided by someone with a sales agenda. This should have been clear due to the specific limited ingredient kibble I was looking for. I left with no dog food and knowing I won't be back.

They were rude to my mother and her rescue dog. Making inappropriate comments about the dog being dirty (he is not, just could use some TLC). This was an embarrassing and disappointing experience for them. Choice Pet should be ashamed of themselves.Time to clean house and get real employees that know how to treat customers with dignity.

Let’s just say... I miss PetValu. I have a seniorlab and we strictly come here for the baths because it’s easier for him vs. getting in our bath at home. I felt a little rushed to be honest. I was asked 2x if I paid yet.. no. I pay At the end. Took my dog out to the car and was reminded again and was told I still have the apron on which I did because I was coming right back In. They have shampoo but I suggest Bringing your own because it’s 90% water. Bring towels too. Eh. Maybe its gonna take some time. But, not supper impressed. Same price $10 for a bath. Which is cheap but, to only offer 1 towel is a little ridiculous.

Was so excited to see this store open up after loosing pet value. I went their for the first time today and was sold on a bone that they convinced me was indestructible, that if I wasn’t happy I could return it for my money back. Well my dog chewed the bone in a matter of minutes we went back and they refused to give me my money back or any sort of credit. We will not be returning.

Very friendly and helpful staff. They are knowledgeable about their products. The store is well stocked. I'm fairly particular about where I shop and I don't leave many reviews, however, when I looked up the address for someone just now, and saw a couple of poor reviews, I felt I needed to comment about my experiences.
