I've been coming here for about a year and a half as my main store and it has a good selection for a smaller store. You can usually find some nice deals especially when using the offers/coupons in the Big Y app. It may not have all of the fancier options that a larger location might have, but all of the essentials are here. The staff have all been friendly as well, even when the store is swamped during tourist season.Unfortunately the produce tends to be rather lackluster. There's not as wide of a range of options for fruit compared to Stop and Shop in East Lyme (the other bigger option within 10 miles), but again the basics are available and there's always a massive selection of apples.The vegetables aren't always as fresh as I'd hope with entire selections being difficult to pick through on occasion. I often find the green peppers (sometimes all of the bell peppers) wrinkled or damaged and the leafy selection on the far right side of the showcases (like kale) tend to be so drenched with water that they're beginning to rot or are otherwise unusable. The organic selection usually seems to be in better shape. I periodically get my garlic home to find out it's already growing sprouts inside as well. I thought it would be a seasonal issue or due to shopping at off hours, but it's something I've noticed throughout the year at various times of the day on different days.Overall, it's a decent store for a small town like Old Lyme, but I think a little more competition would do it some good. It's easy to get in and out in 30-45 minutes if you know what you need, but sometimes meal plans have to change once browsing the produce if the ingredients are going to sit in the fridge for a couple of days. My advice is to have a backup recipe in mind in case you have to make an adjustment on the fly.

There's better big y's. They do their best im guessing. Its a smaller building store, which they have to supply alot of stuff. So, they do their best i guess its crowded, and not easy to move carts around some areas. We still go for essentials. But not for sushi, probably cuz its a smaller store. But they are still smiling nice and friendly.

Big Y, I want to thank you for removing the last incentive I had to walk into a Stop & Shop! Adding Boar's Head cold cuts to your Deli offerings means that I no longer must walk into Stop & Shop Old Saybrook where I am followed around by a googley-eyed robo-cop collecting data on my shopping habits only to be met by rude cashiers who can't be bothered to say more than "Stop & Shop Card" in a tone equally robotic as their shopper stalker.I would give you 5 stars if the Big Y bakery in Old Lyme had the same level quality offerings as the one in Old Saybrook with its delicious, fresh baked baguettes and ciabatta loaves.This is all to say, Bravo! Keep it up! And please, please promise you'll never add a "shopper stalker robo-cop" to the mix!

We visit Old Lyme every year from out of state - this year happened to land on the week of my daughters 4th birthday. She wanted a mermaid cake, so I called to order ahead and the woman on the phone was lovely, but did not over-promise anything. When I picked this cake up, it was a WORK OF ART. My daughter gave the baker a huge hug, and everyone was so impressed with this cake. The bakery went above and beyond for this cake, and it was absolutely delicious to boot. My heart was full knowing they put so much love into a cake for a complete stranger. I would give these folks way more than 5 stars if I could!

I live in Old Lyme and every time I visit this location I feel that I am treated differently than everyone else. I just left and there were three women in front of me that were treated very respectfully and had their groceries bagged for them. When it was my turn to check out the young kid did not say hello and left all of my items at the end of the belt and started ringing the next person out. I feel rushed and ignored. It’s unfortunate that they treat loyal guests this way.

Nice store overall but stay away from ordering a pizza. They obviously have no clue what makes a decent pizza. First of all, it's way undercooked. I order mine in the store while I do my shopping. They tell me it will be ready in 20 minutes but I can't believe it's in their oven longer than 10 minutes. Also, they are very skimpy with the ingredients There's barely any tomato sauce, barely any cheese, and any toppings are few and far between. It tastes like dry cardboard. I will never buy their pizza again, which means I will never shop there again because it was the pizza that brought me to the store. I tried their pizza a few times to give them the benefit of the doubt thinking that maybe they're having a bad day. But each time is the same. The only good thing is that their pizzas are low in price, which in this case is not a good thing. I guess you get what you pay for but I'd rather pay more for a decent pizza than what they make.

The store is clean and well stocked. The aisles are well marked so it’s easy to find what you’re looking for. The prices are usually pretty good. There’s both self checkout and staffed checkout. Plenty of parking and easy to locate.

Shopped at big y this morning the parking lot had trash dumped in lot. When entering store I met the manager and I mention the mess in parking lot. He apologized and when I left there were 2 two managers were cleaning the parking lot. My concerns were immediate addressed and were being cleaned up. Kudos to that manager for addressing the problem

This may be the nicest grocery store in New London county. It's spacious and the produce section is beautifully stocked. Their lettuce selection alone is a tad ridiculous. In addition to a hot bar, they have their own version of a Subway where you can get fresh grinders made. They also serve "fresh" pizza. And lastly, in the bakery, they have a to-go coffee station! Many grab and go options for the possible tourist.

Ordered several pizzas and bottom of crust revealed that they don’t clean that oven often. I was grossed out cause the pellets that covered a portion of the crust resembled something I don’t want to label. I’m surprised because I love that store but their pizza/sandwich area needs a reboot!!!!

Employees who work there are wonderful.That being said why would the management decide to rearrange the store in the summer when there are so many more residents. I leave the store completely exhausted as you don't know where anything is and I usually have to do my own bagging. I dread going shopping and their prices are ridiculously expensive. Also, the aisles are cramped because they put all kind of stuff on displays which makes it so hard to get around. It is not an activity I look forward to. I go less often. I try to buy things on Amazon or a local market to avoid going there.

Cashier was very kind and friendly. I am new to the area and she told me how to get a rewards card.Your paper bags are terrible! Handles ripped off one bag as I tried to place it in the cart. And another one completely ripped in half as I was putting the groceries in the car!

Being it a Big Y, the prices are going to be higher than a normal grocery store. The produce is a bit lower quality than expected, but the bakery and deli have great food. Pizza is fantastic. The people here are always happy and cheery, always willing to help anyone out.

The managers are in the floor and react to lines so you can get in and out in a reasonable time. Always clean and we'll organized. Stocking is not done while the store is open, you don't have to navigate around carts and boxes in the aisles like some stores that will remain nameless ( Stop and Shop ).

I think the produce, meats, fish and flower employees are wonderful. They are accommodating and helpful. The store was upgraded with more organic and natural items which is excellent. If the store wants to compete with Whole Foods, it will have to upgrade prepared items. Otherwise, this is a great local choice which is not too big.

By far the best grocery store in New England. The manager here always goes out of his way to be helpful to his staff and the customers. Whenever I shop here I feel as if the kindness and courtesy of a Chick-fil-A has been channeled through each staff person. As a side note, the pizza that is made onsite is better than anyone else around... And when the gentleman with the ponytail is making the pizza it rivals Pepe's in New Haven.... And only for $10.99

Such a great selection and customer service is excellent. Love the pre-made meals in the bags that you can find damn near the meat counter. Delicious and affordable if you are cooking for one or two people.

This store is clean and organized. Prices are in line with other establishments. Self check out is different than other retail outlets, need to get familiar with it.
