Normally I go to the Petco in Wallingford for my fish supplies, and thisone was much nicer. My inly complaint was the betta fish. In the Wallingford Petco, the bettas get regular water changes, and are very healthy. I can not say the same here. Many betta fish were dead and rotting, and most had dirty water. This is a shame, because the ither fish in the store were some of the best I had ever seen in a Petco. All of the tanks had lovely java moss and Java Fern, and this Petco had the best variety if fish that you notmally dont find in petcos. If it werent for the bettas, I would give 5 stars.

This location has birds, lizards, small fuzzy animals, fish, snacks, and turtles. The day we went there was a friendly bird (black capped parakeet) named onyx for $1000! He was very interactive and the kids loved him. The store has all the regular pet items you need like food, leashes, etc. store was clean and animals appeared cared for.

Brought my dog for a 11am appointment which they thought was 930am but was able to take him in on time anyway. I had the bath and haircut package and added nail trimming and teeth care. When the appointment was over, I was asked if I wanted to give a tip, before even seeing the groomer's work on the dog. It was weird but I thought to be nice. Discovered that the haircut was awful and very uneven. And for some reason, the taxed the tip I left. The TIP. He did smell very nice and his nails were cut but not buffed so it's still quite sharp. Never going back. I dont if it's the stylist or place but not risking it for $85. It almost pisses me off every time I see him.

i don’t typically go to petco due to hearing of their negligence towards the animals. i went to this location on black friday just to browse (wasn’t by my primary pet store) and was just checking out their collection for my own pets. as i was walking through the reptile aisle, i saw a beautiful banana ball python who caught my attention since his mouth was quite ajar. i checked his temp and humidity to see it was about 107 degrees with a humidity level of about 30. not to mention, he was big and they were keeping him in a smaller than 5 gallon tank. i want to make it known that this snake had no room to move. as soon as i saw his gauges i went straight to an employee and told them that snake is gonna roast if they don’t do anything. i didn’t leave until someone came to check out his tank to which they told me they “had no idea it was so off” which is absolutely because they aren’t checking or spraying his tank, no matter how low maintenance a pet is, does NOT mean u don’t check on them to make sure their living condition is at least okay which this snakes was not in any way. this was a 100% preventable situation if they were doing their job and taking care of the animals. this snake had no cool side and wouldn’t have been able to soak even if he tried. i’m not sure how or if they solved this problem since i left shortly after, but no one should be allowed to work with animals if you don’t know how to take care of them. the negligence and total ignorance is disgusting.

I am changing my previous review as I just found a large wound made during his grooming covered by his collar and I was not made aware of the wound making it easy for It to get infected. This is unacceptable

My boyfriend and I recently got a dwarf hamster here and we love her so much! My boyfriend had previously owned one but I spoke to an employee to make sure we had everything we needed. She was very kind and helped us pick things and answered all our questions. Josie (our hamster) has been great & healthy. We do have 30 days to return her if anything did happen and they would take her to the vet if she was sick within those 30 days then return her to us.Really great and thanks for all the help!!

love this place! went in the other day and in the bird isle, I saw this beautiful baby Jenday and all it wanted to do was give me lovins & step up! breaks my heart they are in these cages without any toys or something to sleep on.. hope they can change something.other than that, got everything I needed & went there for.employees are friendly, answered my questions & were very polite.

I never used the grooming service before and was curious about getting my pups nails clipped there;I called all day for two days straight and never was able to get in touch with someone. I normally go to the vet but they have gone up on nail cutting so I wanted to walk in and ask. I went into the store with my dog cause I was going to let her pick a toy out; I went to the grooming counter and the two women who were working in the back gave me the dirtiest looks possible and barely acknowledged me, the woman at the cashiers station asked if she could help me out and see if I could have my questions answered. I said never mind and walked away; the women seem like they are terrible with customer service and I wouldn’t trust my furbaby with them. This was about a month ago and it still bothers me to this day how they acted.

Nice and clean.. i don't feed my pitbull dog food, I make my own in a crockpot. But I will get a bully stick or tendon here for him. Also i come here for ball python supplies..

They shaved my double coated dog after confirming multiple times that we only wanted her feathers trimmed. Do not go here for grooming services.When we picked our dog up, we saw through the glass windows that her entire body was being shaved with clippers. Alarmed, we asked the grooming services manager at the front desk what happened. "I told her not to do that. You can yell at her"The groomer came out with our dog and said, "See, she wasn't shaved, there's plenty of hair left" when very clearly our dog had been shaved down and we saw her in action. Not only was she shaved down, but the shave was uneven and lumpy.I am sorry to have to leave this review for the entirety of Petco as I have had largely very positive experiences here outside of the grooming department. But the service today at Petco grooming was absolutely unacceptable.Protect your dogs. Do not bring them here.

The staff was too busy talking to themselves. It was one of the situations that you felt uncomfortable to interrupt there conversation. and when I ask for help because I was confused on the location of a product that I needed. They gave me confusing directions. they seen me walking around but it still didn’t help I was the only customers in the store so I just walked out.

The animals are clearly neglected. There were multiple dead reptiles, to the point where you could smell them, and the rest looked sick or malnourished. Most of the cages were dirty, the entire store was honestly. Store seemed understaffed, but those conditions are unacceptable when your job is to care for living beings and promote the same level of high quality care to customers. If you aren't selling pets like expected, then shut the store down. If you can't keep a qualified reliable staff, shut the store down. Animals shouldnt be suffering and dying at the hands of neglectful employees. Who wants to buy a dead lizard? Who would trust a store where the animals are literally dying from neglect? Some sick animals can carry zoonotic diseases that people are at risk of getting. Please, just close this location for everyone’s sake.

Josh is very personable and knowledgeable, especially with fish. He helped me set up with a beta fish and tank setup. He answered all my questions as this was my first fish. He made me feel a lot less anxious about being able to take care of the fish properly. Things went so well I decided to get another set up! I now have 2 happy and healthy beta fish!

Worst place every time I brought my dog for grooming she came back shaking! It was so bad I had to ask my sister to take her to the car wheel I get my other baby I never her shake so bad alot of her call was coming the made fun of in front of me and my sister don't help with problem that I been told them about they also pulled her back by her neck I will take her again worst place every if u love ur baby's don't take them her keep them safe

Decent place, I got a lot of help from the person behind the counter when I was looking for something, she was very pleasant and very nice and I appreciate it her help. They are kind of expensive but it's what you expect from a storefront since they have bills and I can only imagine what the rent is on that building and electricity in etc, etc. I still like going into places because it gives people jobs and it's nice to be able to talk to somebody face to face and visit people instead of just going behind a computer screen and ordering something you like and you don't know what it's like until you really get it.

Worst grooming place ever. Forget the name of the witch who groomed my dog. My dog has all of a sudden developed anxiety after going here he is so scared of water. The lady was also very rude and condescending.

Horrible service, cashier had the worst attitude problem who clearly thinks she better than the customers. I bought 3 filters for my fish tank 3 separate times that never worked and still went there to shop. But after dealing with this immature rude snotty little girl I refuse to ever step foot in there again. I can't believe they would even employ people like this. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER.

I'm skeptical of big chain retail stores but Petco has proven time and time again to actually care about our pets. They have great grooming services (Jennifer in North Haven is wonderful) and all the staff is very nice and helpful

I came in for a pleco and the man was just unpacking them so I came back a little later and was astonished with how amazing the service was and how insightful- josh I believe- was with helping me find the perfect pleco for my tank. I really appreciate that employees at petco will turn people away so the fish can get acclimated, the well-being of the animals should be top priority and I’m so happy to see that. I love my new Bristle-nose rubber pleco and he’s doing great in my tank! Thanks again!!

I think Petco is great when you get lucky and have someone knowledgeable about the products and animals they carry. I decided to get some fish, and Josh at North haven was a big help in choosing the right fish for me.They have a great discount promotion with when you buy online and pickup your order at a store. It makes shopping for my pets hassle free and much cheaper at the same time! I hope they continue the promotion in the future.I didn't give 5 starts because some stores are not as clean (fish tank, etc.) as the others.Generally speaking, I think they have been trying to improve what they carry (pet food, etc.), and also with customer service. Perhaps I'll give 5 starts in the near future, if they keep on getting better.

Bad business practices here. Poor customer service. The guy in the fish department is unhelpful and arrogant. He was shutting the lights off as I was getting into the department and ignoring me the whole time I'm walking around. I finally ask him if I can buy a pleco which he replays "we're not selling fish right now". Yuck! Due to what ? Never again will they get my business. I’m a manager and would be appalled if I found out this is how an employee of mine spoke to people.

Inexperienced groomersMy puppy was afraid and was pulled by her throat. On the table she was panting so hard from fear her tongue was hanging out of her mouth. I would never come here for grooming again. Stay and watch when they groom your dog! Protect your pet.

The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. They were patient and caring. I was able to find my item and even return the non fitting dog boot without a hitch. Thank you to all responsible for the management and staffing of the North Haven Petco!
