Be prepared to be judged, incorrectly and with no ability to defend yourself, based on your purchases by the staff.As I was checking out today the bagger saw the word 'India' on a beer and told me that I 'was what was wrong with America', by 'buying foreign beers from India'.I attempted to point out that it was an India pale ale style beer produced by New England Brewing, which is based in Connecticut. The words 'New England' were prominently featured on the top of the can.The bagger actively ignored me, turning away from me while muttering under his breath that I 'was what was wrong with America.' While he was an older man (my guess in his mid to late 70s), he certainly could hear me as we had talked earlier in the checkout process.All he saw was a 30-something-year-old man buying what he thought was a foreign beer, and shut off all information about the outside world while judging me on false information. I literally walked around him to make eye contact while trying to point out what I thought might be an honest mistake on his part. He completely ignored me, and continued to talk about 'India beers' and 'the problems with America'.He made no comment on the Heineken I also purchased (I guess that was less offensive to this man than supposed 'India beer' being sold in the US).That this happened all in front of my 5 year old son was even worse. He was then asking me what we did wrong. I got the opportunity to talk with him about how a problem in our country is people like that man instantly judging people based on false information and refusing to listen to facts. So at least there was that silver lining.

The staff are great, huge parking lot and a ton of selection. Oh and they had the kerns free pop corn that is so hard to find!

Scan it app is great, quick in and out. Once in a while it will throw the red flag and make you jump through hoops before you can leave. Minor annoyance until they update their AI to next gen.

For years stop and shop in Newtown has been selling food past the expiration date. For the last year the service is getting worse and worse. No cashiers. The deli department will make you wait 5 min to finish a personal conversation if your waiting in line. I can't support this bad behavior anymore. Garbage store.

UPDATE: rating changed from 1 to 3There seems to be an effort to improve quality and cleanliness.Produce dept has improved dramatically. There are several employees who try their best and keep this place together and running. Those conscientious employees really shine.There is a small handful of others who seem totally oblivious and uncaring and determined to drag this store down.============•This is hardly a fit store for food for human consumption... other than their canned foods.Good:Prices are generally ok. Be very careful when buying perishable items. Check the "sell by" dates, even on canned items, because stock rotation is non existent,Customer service at the service desk is usually responsive and accommodating to the consumer. If you are conscientious and shop here, you will need them.BAD:BEWARE the deli department! The worst around. Machines are ALWAYS dirty. There is always a pile of old cold cut shreds on every slicer. If you order roast beef. be prepared to be chewing chunks of pastrami and liverwurst and salami that were picked up from the dirty slicer.Upon specific request, some clerks will clean the machine before slicing your order, but you'd better look first before you place your order. And NEVER take the presliced deli meat. Deli manager apparently doesn't care and is rarely available in any event. Repeated requests to have the slicers wiped down and cleaned are ignored.ANYTHING fresh must be examined thoroughly before purchase. The general rule seems to be that they are not concerned with having the freshest foods available for their customers. It seems that they try to slip through whatever marginally semi fresh meat or produce is left over and salable.if you shop here on a rainy day, or after a recent rain, beware of the leaking from the roof that may be dripping on your food.Good news is that the aisles are RARELY crowded.Bad news is that there is a reason.The pictures shown above this review are NOT of this stop and shop.The accompanying pictures are current.

A nice Stop and Shop, never seen it dirty or a mess. The staff is very nice and helpful when asked about items.Check out the team is friendly even the self/scanner checkout.

Eric was such a big help when I called to inquire about some balloons I bought online and needed blown up. The best costumer service I’ve had in so sooooo long ! It was very refreshing to be greeted with such a positive and genuine attitude. Thank you Eric!

Good stop & shop, usually have everything I'm looking for. Self check out lines are easy and always available. Never crowded. Always clean & employees are pleasant. I'm not crazy about the set up as far as the layout is different than the new Milford location that is more efficiently laid out in my opinion but it's convenient bc it's right next to my job and I can run in & out very easily there are never lines I love it.

This stop and shop is always will stocked. There is rarely a line and the workers are always friendly and quick with a smile. Produce is fresh, pre made sandwiches are put together will land honestly, I have never had an issue here. It's always convenient having a people United Bank at stop and shop. I can do my banking and for shopping all at one spot. More coupons would be nice though. They're are never many coupons in the flyers.

I moved to Newtown about 6 months ago and have visited this Stop & Shop a few times. I was extremely frustrated by my recent experience during checkout when I had the misfortune of asking a store assistant for help. I asked a very simple question but didn't have the slightest clue that I would have to experience a very condescending and rude attitude by Ms. Becky who continued to give me sarcastic comments and smiles during our two-minute (but-what-seemed-to-be-an-eternity) interaction. Very surprising because just a few seconds ago, I had seen Ms. Becky being extremely polite with other customers who shared her skin color. I thanked her and left the store not wanting to visit it ever again.

Picked up Blueberry Cherrio's on sale 2$5 love them but not at full price. Love the Employees, Pharmacy staff and Peoples Bank Staff as well. Everyone is pleasant and friendly

Route 25 has limited places to stop and grab a quick snack and I was parched after a motorcycle trip up to Indian. My twin brother and I celebrated our birthday today with my decision to stop here. Of course I did a RedBull, my favorite drink, and it was ice cold! Sometimes it can be as simple as an energy drink to remember a special day along with a quick trip to the deli department. The gentleman working the deli went above and beyond to help me.

Ex Employee,Manager Brooke, completely embarrassed me in front of another employee by firing me today..."Let me go" for the mistake of another employer..when she told my actual employer that I'll be right back " She just has too sign something"....SHE LIED. Another employer who's been working there for years gets too keep there job...WHILE MAKING HUGE MISTAKES ..that cost me the job I loved. While I'm JUST on my second week..WITHOUT WARNING.. fires me and not her.....I loved my job, I came back after 4 years..just too get fired from the new manager...BRING LEELEE BACK!! I cried my heart out for a good 6 hours looking at my 6 month old son asking myself how I will pay rent this month..Everything happens for a reason I guess..but If your looking for this place to be a job, I'd choose else where. I Still cant go to sleep that's how much its bothering me knowing I could possibly be on the streets for no good reason while people with the upper hand get too do what they please with my life basically and sleep comfortably doing it. So absolutely Sad ! ! Made me work 32 hours for no gain , pharmacy training for nothing..and an amazing engagement with my new customers I'll never see again....this place was a set up.

They were out of the dog food I buy again. I bought three six packs of soda all the same and told the cashier that. She told me they looked different and to take them all out. I wouldn't lie about something like that. I usually take out one and it is scanned three times.

Great people work there ,always helpful.Terrible deli.All the other stores in town have opened their deli's.Disgusting prepackaged salads and foods.Seafood dept. is mediocre at best .Frozen and defroseted seafood.I buy the fresh when available ,Farm raised Salmon is about the only thing that is fresh..Meat dept. Mostly prepackaged meats.No butcher to speak of. Asked if a sirloin steak could be ground? as chopped meat comes in already ground from whoknows,where? Stop and shop has alotof work to do .

There was 1 self check out open and yet no one responded to me needing help. Got attitude from whoever was in the front end. I had to walk out and go to big y. I dont know if someone called out but that shouldn't effect shoppers. I will never return.

This stores opens at 6 am which is awsome. The customer service desk does not open till 8 am but western union opens at 7 am. So just don't go there at 7 am expecting to get ur western union. We did n the cashier was rude n unhelpful.

Overpriced and an outdated store. 1 cashier on duty. The rest are all self checkouts. No baggers either. Not to mention whenever you go on a weekend they always have some sort of charity out front asking for money. No one wants to get robbed food shopping then have to be asked to donate afterwards every single time. Shoprite in Southbury has a warm homey feel to the store, most registers are usually open with baggers at each register and the prices are much cheaper.

On they got everything you could possibly need but they're so expensive I do Pryce comparison as there nestle coffee of twice the price then Aldis the cereal almost 3xs more everything is more add they use plastic bags so much it's sickening they were starting to get rid of them until the pandemic but that's over they need to start again

Prices kinda high, some employees rude, goof selection, clean and neat but attitude says a lot and customers aren't much better. It's close n clean which is a biggie for me. Get a new job if you people are so miserable blehhhh
