Located not far from the flagpole on Main Street. I ordered from here for a work event. I had to order 70 breakfast sandwiches. It included a mix of ham, bacon, sausage, and plain egg and cheese sandwiches. The order was ready as promised, and I was helped outside. Sadly, I did not take a picture of the giant box that was given to me with the sandwiches. There is a special for one dollar off per sandwich when you buy a large amount. I don’t know the actual amount. I had a ham, egg and cheese on a roll. It tasted really good especially for the discounted price.There is a huge drink selection and a full menu for breakfast and lunch. The decor inside is really cool. It looks like a store from early 20th century America with all the wood. Tables inside to sit and enjoy your food. I will definitely be returning to try one of their lunch sandwiches.

Hot an cold sandwiches for five people in less than 6 minutes. FAST and Delicious.This is a excellent stop for Lunch in Newtown, the country feel and aesthetics are true to New England. Coffee hot or cold, a large selection of drinks including healthy, plenty of candy and sweet deserts will have you coming back.Excellent location and plenty of parking.Seating inside or outside. Located near the 150 year old iconic flag pole.

Newtown General Store in Newtown, CT, is absolutely fantastic! The store has a wide variety of products, all of which are high quality and reasonably priced. Additionally, Newtown General Store makes it incredibly easy to prepare your own iced coffee, which is a huge plus for coffee lovers! They have all the necessary ingredients readily available and the process is super simple and convenient. The staff are always friendly and helpful, making the shopping experience a pleasure. Additionally, the store has a quaint, nostalgic feel to it that makes it a unique place to shop. Highly recommend!

I'm pretty sure they are the same owners as the ones from Misty Vale Deli, which is another great place in Newtown for a quick bite. However, I enjoy the atmosphere of The General Store more, and they are definitely more generous when it comes to sauces on your sandwiches. Did I mention that the prices are great! Bacon egg and cheese is like 3.50$, a rare price to see now adays. If you're in Newtown and just want a sandwich, make your way over here!

I used to come here a couple of times a week but I haven't been here in over a year. While the food is still as good as its always been I was very disappointed when I got to the register. The women behind the counter was on the phone. She didn't greet me, look at me, or tell me the total. Not one word was spoken. This is not good customer service. I used to be a cashier and I would never treat my customers like this. Kind of turned me off. Maybe I'll wait another year and see if it's improved..It has definitely improved 🙂

A staple of Newtown charm and delicious food, this place is the best. Always worth a visit. And the prices are reasonable too!Parking: Somewhat limited parking out front, but I'm almost always able to find a spot, and there is more parking in back if you go around the theater.

Some of the best local made sandwiches! very rustic feel of the store itself. They defiantly use high quality ingredients. Order online or at the counter and the turn around is quick! They have a full service deli as well in the back. A good virality of goods in the store itself as well as a seating area to eat. This is a great general store!

This is the go-to place in Newtown for sandwiches. It is absolutely amazing and all of the sandwiches on and even off of the menu are made just how you like. I have never had a bad experience here and all of this for cheap. Any sandwich you could want from Dunkin’ Donuts can be outdone for roughly the same price right here. The workers are always kind and friendly. I love coming and eating here.

The food is great and reasonably priced. You do need to check your order though. I almost always order online bacon cheeseburgers with pepper and onions for my kids. 99% of the time they forget the peppers, 30% of the time they forget the bacon. So check your food before leaving ;)

Food is good but the service is terrible. Always forget something I asked for and rudely talk about the customers in Spanish. Also their prices went up I don’t find what I’m paying now worth it. There is a deli right down the road that has amazing food for a cheaper price and amazing service. I will not be going to the general anymore. There are plenty of other better options

I’ve been coming here for years because the sandwiches are good and I make it a point to support local business. During these times of inflation, we choose wisely which businesses to support as our money is stretched thin, we are aware that we have a choice and when we patronize a business FOR YEARS, we expect basic customer service.My 9 year old daughter and I bought our sandwiches and sat at one of the tables in the front of the store, by the window. There were no other customers sitting around. The cashier brought a huge bucket filled with dirty water and a huge mop and started mopping while we were eating. She kept on mopping without any regard to myself or my child. We had our food all laid out on the table, this cut our appetite short. We put all our food back in the bag and I told her that this is not the way to treat customers. She replied in a dismissive manner that her shift was about to end at 3 pm and she had to mop. She then proceeded to tell me in a snarky way that the store was open until 5pm, and that I would have plenty of time to finish eating my sandwich AFTER she finished mopping. I told her not to worry I was going to leave and she can mop all she wants. Unfortunately for her, I happen to understand Spanish, she turned around and started complaining about me to one of her coworkers. I didn’t even respond to that, we just left the store.Note to the owner:1. If you have a policy that requires your employees to mop at the end of their shift, add an exception to this rule (do not mop when people are EATING). As a customer, I do care about cleanliness but the mopping could be done at the end of the day, when all eat-in customers have left. That is just basic common courtesy and also good customer service.2. Please teach your staff that the customer is always right, not to disparage the customer or complain about the customer in a different language right in front of them. Your business is not a charity, the customer has to PAY for food and CHOOSES to patronize your business, the least your employees could do is show their appreciation.3. I will be looking for other places to get my sandwiches (there are quite a few in town).

Have tried this place a few times but they haven’t gotten 1 order right. Ever. Wait time is ridiculous. Workers are extremely rude and don’t seem to be able to understand orders. Ordered sandwiches with cheese and mayo (not hard) recv’d dry chicken cutlets with nothing on them (???). Will not be going back.

I read a few reviews of the Newtown General Store and it sounded intriguing. Living a few towns over, it took about 30 minutes to get there. I got to choose because it was my birthday. I like informal and something new, and after a light meal, it was a stop at a local ice cream stand. Another place I hadn't been.We seated ourselves and ordered for 3. No waiter service, which was fine. Food was excellent. Coffee from the machine was surprisingly hot and decently strong. My 100 year old father even liked his chicken parmesan sandwich, and he's choosy. Only negative is no restroom. Used the one in town hall, next door. No idea what happens when that's closed.Not in Newtown often, but I will definitely get back there again for a delicious lunch. A nice selection to choose from. Very nice decor too. From an earlier time.
