I went to this pet store sometime in august and purchased a holland lop. I was told it was a healthy female. Instead, about a month later, the rabbit was expressing very bad respiratory symptoms and when I brought it to the emergency vet in north haven, the vet told me the rabbit was actually a male and had two infections (syphilis and pasteurella) and that I bought the rabbit this way. It just took some time for the symptoms to show.But I couldn’t give the rabbit back or anything since it was past the warranty window.$2k later and I’m still trying to clear this rabbit of the chronic infections.I highly do not recommend purchasing pets from this store, unless you check for any infections and verify the gender yourself.

Go to a reputable AKC breeder (who will charge you a fraction of what this place charges) or adopt. The only way to put puppy mills out of business is to avoid establishments like these. No demand means no need to breed more sick dogs!

We had a fantastic experience. Saw a puppy online, made an appointment, fell in love with her and the whole staff were just amazing. We are so in love with our newest addition. She was expensive, but she is an Alaskan husky, so we knew what we were looking to pay. Plus they offer financing, and she even came with a cage qnd a bunch of supplies.

The staff here are so friendly and welcoming, and they clearly have great affection for all the animals. I only wish they offered pet adoptions rather than dogs from breeders. I always have to drag my kids out of here ("No, we are not getting a kitten/ferret/puppy"), but I have a big smile on my face

On 6/20/2020 around 1:00 I came into Stan’s (first time) desperately looking for adult crickets for my breeding program. My crickets were all too old. My praying mantids were born and I needed cricket like yesterday. Petco sells sick crickets, they all die every time. I had tried anyway and all eventually died so I tried Stan’s Safari. The young girl who assisted me was great. They did have some adults and she was willing to grab as many as she could and she did! Petco wouldn’t do that for me. So thank you to Stan’s for taking care of me. By the way, only a few had died, they are all thriving, mating and right now the females are laying eggs!But I must give you only 4 stars because I do not like the fact that you sell puppies- that supports overbreeding while there are thousand of great dogs in shelters and foster who need homes. I wouldn’t even look that way while I was in the store. Please reconsider this part of your business.*****August 2021 review-(Woodbridge)Thank you Tony, Gianna, and Cole for helping me out and making sure I got what I came for-healthy adult crickets. Especially Cole, thanks for letting me go through them and trusting me.Because of the healthy stock of crickets and employees who looked out, I was able to get females laying like crazy and did two egg nests for 1 week, each amounting in plenty of baby crickets. And they’re thriving. Got plenty of food now for my mantids and can make more if needed.****July 2023…Returned to Stan’s like I do every summer to get adults for breeding. These will be for my mantids I catch in the first week of October and keep as pets.I was blown away by these crickets. They are a different species but I don’t know what kind. The adult females are wingless and the adult males have very short wings. I wasn’t even sure they were adults but they looked like adults-the females had fully formed barbs and many looked swollen with eggs. But all the female adult, brown pet store crickets ALWAYS have wings. So I bought some, brought them home and made an egg nest. Those females ARE adults and were laying eggs like crazy. Right now app. 300 have hatched with more to come!! Still want to know what species they are but at least I can always count on Stan’s to have what I need!!!! The mantids will be eating good!!! 🦗🦗🦗🦗Thank you to the staff that day for assisting me and allowing me to get my own crickets!!!YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!!!!!Pics below are some females laying eggs and just some of the babies, now small pinheads.

Purchased an old English bulldog and couldn't be happier with her and the staff was so friendly and helpful and knowledgeable. I have had her for 6 weeks now and I dont regret getting her from a pet store she is happy and healthy.

Words can not describe how grateful I am to have found this place. The owner has two locations where one is located in Stamford and the other in New Haven, I’m closer to Stamford but went up to New Haven to get my Lanii. From day one I called the pet store, every staff has been very pleasant and mostly patient with me. Their service is wonderful! I was so happy to have found my baby Lanii here, she’s our first puppy. Thank you guys and especially Charmaine who did such an amazing job explaining every detail to us.

Horrible I bought a bearded dragon lizard wasn't even told it was a female and she laid eggs and just died I'm grieving now thanks to not being properly informed on my lizard by these people I feel ripped off of my pet I loved so much

Bought my 4 month old English sheep dog for a very good price ! I walked in at the rightMoment I got him from the new haven store was very pleased with all the stuff that came included with buying him great store and great staff ! Recommend to buy your puppy here ! Now our old sheep dog has a forever home ❤️

Really wonderful place. I always see the caretakers cleaning up after the dogs and all the animals get fed often. You can also play with the dogs in special individual pens.

Great customer service beautiful healthy puppies kittens and beautiful vibrant birds. Was very happy with my purchase of my pup. They gave me everything to get started and all the information I needed. Fast forward to today my pup is 3 years old now and has no issues. He's the most healthiest and the most happiest little guy running around till this day no regrets thank you guys so much

This pet store is willing to sell animals that have not been checked out thoroughly by a proper doctor. With a 7 day warranty they don't even give a person enough time to get an appointment.walking into this business I immediately noticed astrong oder of fecal, urine and disinfectant. I realized the store is poorly ventilated for the number of animals and the animals may not be healthy. Buyers beware.

Safari Stan’s is legitimately awesome. We own an umbrella cockatoo named Alby. They are known for being difficult pets. We have boarded Alby at the Amity location numerous times without issue. The staff and Alby accepted each other immediately and continue to do so. I suspect appreciation of that statement will correlate directly with the readers knowledge of parrots. Point is, it’s amazing, and I remain exceedingly grateful for the peace of mind we feel whenever boarding is necessary. Thanks, and see you soon.Rich

I got my puppy in September of 2021. He was unfortunately sick with kennel cough. That was the first red flag. The second red flag is that researching where my puppy actually came from I figured out he actually did come from a puppy mill. They lie and say their puppies are from a friendly breeder. My third red flag was when purchasing my pupp, there were “perks” like free training. My puppy is now 9 months and they have no trainer still. I have called and supposedly the manager will give me a call back. I’m still waiting. This place just wants your money. The puppies are all cute and loving but the establishment is truly a scam. Over $5,000 for a sick puppy. No free training. They give him 3 out of the 12 shots and they recommend you Orange vet which charges you $500 to get neutered. I’m only giving them a star because I love my puppy.

Hi I have fur allergies and can only be around hypoallergenic puppies. I can't afford to buy one. but I have need of an companion puppy. If you can help please let me know. I go in to spend time with the puppies and staff. They are such loving and kind and happy young people ( I'm past 60). I go in as often as I can. Love it there. Pets are well loved, groomed, fed,and happy. They are so full of life, just waiting for their forever home. Give hugs and kisses for me when you visit. Blessings to all.

Still waiting at least 4 months later from management about reimbursement for sick puppy they sold us. Spent over 5 grand and they can't even do as much as return a phone a call. They owe us $1000 in vet costs because of their poor treatment of the animals. They also apparently force employees to work the same day as their immediate family member dies.

I generally feel uncomfortable seeing animals in pet stores but I was so happy with every aspect of my daughter and my experience here.They welcomed us as soon as we entered, not in an overwhelming way…just friendly. They clearly considered the well being of the animals a high priority. This was evident when they arranged for us to give love to a couple puppies because as they said, “Puppies need to be socialized.” They were clear in requiring us to clean our hands in between pups, cleaned the visitation booth and had us clean our hands again before we visited the second puppy. The food they were feeding the rabbits was very fresh veggies and fruit. They were generally very accommodating and knowledgeable about all the animals we asked about.

I went to pick up some dog food along with other items that I needed & I also love to see the adorable puppies that are available! But the real reason I am writing this review is to acknowledge Victoria! I had previously visited this pet shop & not only was she super sweet & extremely informative the first time but she continued to be the second time I had visited. I appreciate her amazing customer service & enthusiasm. I was interested in knowing the facts about the African bird you have in your store & Victoria amazed me with her knowledge, her patience & her kindness. She always has a beautiful smile on her face & I can't say that about most of the staff but I thought It was super important to keep everyone informed that she is the reason I’d go back! Thanks Victoria for your awesome customer service <3

Please PLEASE do not support this business/ purchase an animal here. My friend just had to euthanize her Rottweiler puppy (purchased here and came from a puppy mill) with a multitude of issues, the final being an incurable, extremely contagious and rare disease. This poor dog suffered all of her short life and this business won’t even take their phone calls; they delete every post this family has tagged them in.

Peddles puppy mill dogs and is part of the problem. If you need to buy a puppy, get one from a responsible breeder. Ethical breeders DO NOT sell to pet stores EVER. All puppies you see in stores are a product of suffering by the parents all for a quick dollar

My wife and I did not plan on purchasing a puppy from a pet store, especially after some horror stories you hear. However, we instantly fell in love with our new pup and Gianna at Safari Stan’s was more than helpful making it all happen.When it comes to pet stores, this one is on the higher end and our experience definitely does not coincide with some of the negative reviews on here. A great experience all around!

Not a great experience. I asked for paperwork on a puppy I scheduled an appointment to see. No paperwork was available at that time. I was told 8t would be available at a later time. I had to ask a lot of questions because they weren't particularly forthcoming. I asked for information on the warranty. I noticed that the puppies were very dirty, particularly in their ears. The employee was nice enough to print it out and hand it to me. I began to read it and lifted my head and the employee was gone. I'm concerned about the wellbeing of the animals here. As busy as they are, I hope the pups are getting the attention they need.

We got our first puppy Flynn here about two years ago and had an exceptional experience.Fast forward to last night, me and my wife came back to Safari Stan’s to look for a little sibling for him. There was one puppy we would have absolutely LOVED to know more about as he seemed perfect for our little family. However, much to our disappointment, there seemed to be no sales person available to help us out. We came in around 7:30pm, later than when we usually shop, and none of our friendly sales people that we have come to appreciate from our first visit were there. The store was completely DEAD except for one other customer who was already being helped. Instead, we spent almost 30 minutes waiting by the pup’s window for someone to come and ask if we needed any assistance. One young gentleman was aiding the only other customer and two other employees, who seemed to be supervisors and managers, were walking around us with nobody ever making sure we were being helped or even just giving us a second glance. One of them, a black-haired gentleman who appeared to be either the manager or owner, was standing at the computer for our entire visit and didn’t even glance in our direction or look up when I approached. Another employee, who seemed to be a supervisor of some sorts, walked back and forth between the floor and the back of the store, and she clearly saw us requiring assistance as we tried to make eye contact and signaled we needed help multiple times. And yet, she mumbled something to the employee who was helping another customer and disappeared into the back again. This is by FAR one of the most outrageous customer service experiences I have ever witnessed, as not only were we given poor service, but we were given NO service. At the end of our visit, I decided to just go ahead and at least leave with a treat for our dog, but nobody could even be bothered to meet us at the register to ring us up. Not sure if there has been a big turnover in staff, if it’s the evening crew that compared to the fabulous staff I have seen during the day could not care less about their customers, or if this place has just stopped emphasizing and practicing the excellent customer service that I have once seen. No matter the reason for our awful experience last night, we definitely won’t be using Safari Stan’s as our first stop to look for new furry family members as we have in the past, and will instead go directly to a local breeder, where we can be sure to receive phenomenal 1:1 attention and where they at least care about retaining their customers and their satisfaction.
