12/23 - The Super Foodtown which bought Marandino's is now rebranded as "Brigido's" of New Hartford. It's another line of stores under the same umbrella as Foodtown so it's still the same company. I have not seen any changes in terms of layout or merchandise. It looks the same. Happy to report they still make a great takeout grinder at the deli. We bought four one evening for dinner, two roast beef, a turkey and a ham all with cheese, lettuce, and black olives, two with tomato, green pepper and onion. Stuffed with fresh meat in a fresh grinder roll they were super. Another evening I grabbed a store made roast turkey grinder with provolone, pickles and lettuce to split with a family member and a pint of hot hamburger stew that had plenty of beef and vegetables. The clam chowder is good, too.#July 2023 - Both of these local suppliers are absolutely worth trying: Simply Jam sweet jalapeno based jarred products that can be enjoyed in so many ways and takeout meals prepared by an area cook, Don, such as sausage and peppers, chicken parmesan and goulash. We bought the freshly made chili which had a rich amount of ground beef, beans and tricolored chopped peppers.#Looking at grocery store weekly sale ads online, it was a nice surprise to see a local friend was going to be playing his keyboard and singing Christmas carols to shoppers here. An innovative idea. We had to drop by. He had a friend with him dressed as Santa to wave to patrons and take photos if requested. The owner had an upscale table of treats for people to sample or enjoy, too: Brie, Jarlsberg, Gouda, crackers, cookies, etc. Even a glass of wine if someone wanted to open the bottle. We had a few bites. Fine promotion. Filling our cart was a festive activity instead of a dull chore as the music could be heard throughout the store. Love the new key copier machine in the entrance way.#The final renovations are done and New Hartford's Super Foodtown is celebrating its Grand Opening. Appreciate the festive string pennant flags all over the lot, but let's hope they don't stay. Spectacular job on the overall interior design. Looks really good. For my friends who tell me it's not Pete's, no it isn't, but the new owner has done his best to make it an inviting place to shop. Take a look.#This Super Foodtown continues to build and identify itself as its own store. Visiting today, I was able to get a few things I went in there for and take a few new photos for GM viewers. Missing for me of note: turkey parts in the meat section, no more hot meatball/chili station or weekly grinder in the deli section, no enchilada sauce in either the Mexican food ingredient shelves or the jarred/canned tomato aisle, the variety of fresh bagels and a few other items.Happy to see Morton & Bassett spices again so I can stop hoarding my jar of marjoram I bought in San Francisco. Glad they are still selling Sahlen's ham at the deli counter. There is no substitute. Also glad they're still selling the unsweetened Arizona tea no one else carries. They have more wheat dry pastas I would have never cared about except for a weight loss/workout program I'm starting. Still need more time to develop. Will follow up.#2021 - For many Marandino's shoppers, the transition to this locally owned store in recent months, from founder Peter Marandino to the small grocery chain Foodtown, has been tough. Foodtown is still working on upgrades both in terms of modern interior design at a basic level, and in terms of added inventory that brings consumers a wider selection, while keeping items the former owner kept in stock and on the shelves consumers expect. The veteran and local staff that stayed on continue to do a great job in terms of service which helps the change be more familiar.#2020 - Support this independent grocery store. Pete Marandino is the nicest owner. Italian bakery breads brought in from Waterbury, fresh meat and bagels plus retro items like Moxie soda. Greeting cards and plants available. No fresh fish counter but decent choice of frozen. Grinder of the week is a hit with locals.

Another day, another freezer burnt, rotten item that I have to return. This place is insane. Since they’ve opened, they’ve just been an understaffed mess of rotten food and poor management. Everyone who works here is great, but something needs to change. The convenience is not worth the headache anymore. I would have a better chance at getting fresh food at the gas station down the street.

Great place for fresh fruit and vegetables. Their deli is fantastic! They have all of the brands the bigger shops have and also some more hard to find brands, as well. Great family owned business, and you should absolutely shop there and support them.

I hadn't visited much since they changed owners and the store no longer is called Marandino's.The new owners remodeled this location and it looks amazing. They did a great job renovating and updating the feel of the place, reminds me of a Market 32 aesthetic but in a local independent grocery store! I couldn't rate them 5 stars at their prices are higher than other grocery stores, but it is a more local store so if you want to support local and can afford to do so then this is a good option. There is sufficient variety in the store, when I went the produce and bakery looked good but I didn't pass by the meat or seafood. Dairy section was well stocked with many varieties including non-dairy options.

Nice selection of items, some out of the ordinary. Good soups available hot, as well as good deli salads. Prices here are at the high end. Prepare to pay well for what you find.

I like these smaller grocery stores and decided to visit the store all the way from Newington. The day I visited (5/21/22) was the same day they had a Fun Festival in the front lot, but I visited that evening. This is a co-op type of chain where the stores are independently owned. I would describe this store as one where you wouldn't necessarily do all your weekly shopping, but instead, a great place to visit to take advantage of the great sales they have or quick stops if you are local to the area. The small size means you don't have to walk a mile for milk. They even have some very nice general merchandise items throughout the store. I bought a beautiful hanging basket and a Cardinal stepping stone. Their sales are just as good if not even a bit cheaper than the bigger stores. The cashier was friendly and another employee even helped bag. The only concern I had was that there were items on the shelf that had been there a long time but were not yet expired. Regular prices are high but some items such as paper goods were reasonable. I only saw a half dozen customers in the store throughout my visit, so I assume there is more business during the day. I hope the store makes it, as it is a great little store to have close by. Newington needs something like this. I was compelled to review as I appreciated the pleasant small town experience.

I enjoy shopping at the stor, but I'm going to stop buying milk here. The milk spoils before its use-by date. This happened with both whole and chocolate varieties on multiple occasions.

Love this place actually. Some things are pricey but can't grab a pretty fresh salad or something healthy and a few grocery items nice and quick and i love this large hand baskets that you drag around luggage style. Very convenient for me i hate grabbing big carts cuz I'll fill one up so small carts and baskets are nice and i prefer this over mini carts

The store is clean and most of the employees are nice and have some semblance of a personality. You need to overhaul the deli-not the friendliest personnel. Your bakery is nasty and most of the items “stale.” The meat department (if you want to call it that) is lacking, and that is being nice!!!

Super Foodtown is my local go-to grocery store! The staff are always keeping items stocked and are super friendly and helpful. Very clean grocery store with plenty of selections. Never a bad time when I'm visiting. They always have special sales that are wonderful.

Talked with the new owner a month or so back, great guy, very helpful. They actually have a butcher inhouse, and he's made some cuts for me, also a great guy. Bright, clean, friendly and helpful employees.... Everything you can ask for. And if you don't find something they get it for you. Old school all the way.

Stopped In again on Super Bowl Sunday....this place does not enforce the mask mandate for its employees. While I did my shopping the guy in the meat department was definitely walking around not wearing a mask as mandated by the Ct health dept rule. While the renovation is going well and the place looks good - they need to work on their customer service . Customer service is lacking , the meat department IS NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE.Both my husband and I have received less than stellar service. One of the managers was down right hostile when I asked for help finding a product that I used to purchase there regularly. I went in today and could not find the 3 items that I needed. The person in the deli was less than helpful and seemed annoyed that we wanted sliced meats in the middle of the afternoon .Also , be aware That when you sign your name at the bottom of the agreement to get a store card - you are giving them the right to sell your information.

Small local grocer, good selection, well stocked. Produce is varied but quality is hit or miss but perfectly acceptable.

This place has gone way downhill since it became Foodtown. Less competent staff, worse quality, worse atmosphere than before the store was sold. Deli especially has gone downhill, slow, clearly undertrained staff, poor selection, terrible prices. Meat and produce sections, previously top notch, have also gone way downhill. Wrinkly, wilty, vegetables, no in house made sausages, poor quality and selection of meats etc... I miss my local grocery store.

Been shopping at Marindino’s for a couple of years. I loved the fact that I could go in and buymy meat and poultry, they had everything I wanted. Went there today and that will be the last time I shopthere. The meat and poultry cases were pretty empty, all the “good til” dates in every package was for today or tomorrow! I refuse to buy anything that is only good for a day, that tells me it’s been sitting there for a few days. They had no chuck roast, stew meat, chicken thighs, or whole chickens. The butcher did cut me a chuck roast and stew meat. All done with “Foodtown”. One more thing, the staff here are awesome, no complaints!

New renovation of older supermarket. Staff are friendly. Store is much much cleaner. Lighting much better. Selection is much better. Local products such as Canton Creamery Ice Cream are available here and besides being excellent deserve being supported.

I want to make it very clear that Marandino was a 5 star. Been shopping there for over 20 years and it was always great BUT the NEW owners that bought this have made changes to the store and they are now raising many prices and stopped carrying some of my loved products. It’s a huge disappointment and I hate that such a nice family owned place sold out to such horrible new owners...

I have tried to give this place many tries, but every time I buy food/dairy etc the food is no good. Ive gotten chunky milk, bad meats. And when you go into the store you can see some of the meats don’t look good.

Not good. The cashier put 3 bottles of oj,2 large cans of beans,2 large cans of soup, and a few other things in 1 bag. It broke. The cashier said absolutely nothing to us. And started waiting on the next customer as we picked up groceries off the floor

This place since takeover has really gone downhill. Use to love there grinders, but not only have they raised there price by $3, they are horrible, Changed the grinder roll to a big bulky dry recipe.Tomatoes so thin you need to look for them. Also on three different occasions i have asked employees a question only to be told idont know. What poor customer service, if you dont know direct me to someone who does. They have lost me as i customer, i will go the short distance to shoprite.

My family has been shopping at Marandino's for decades and we've always had a good experience there. Their staff is solid and always quick to respond to requests when they can deliver on them.Support the independent guys whenever you can and especially when they do it this well!

Marandino's is family owned and you feel like family when you're in the store. I feel we need to support local business. Sometimes the prices of tad bit higher but it's worth it to have that place open and not be taken over by big box stores. Also because I frequent marandino's I have been given samples by the owners. Thank you

Foodtown used to be called Marandino's supermarket. The new owners are refreshing the inside with new coolers, floors, lights, etc. Some items have relocated to a new shelf spot, there are new items, the exterior has been repainted and upgraded a little. It's a work in progress! Try it---you may like it!

It's good for a local grocery store and close by, but kinda limited on variety and more expensive than stop and shop or shop rite

Wonderful local, family owned grocery! Marandinos is friendly, clean, accommodating, easy to access and reasonably priced. Four generations of our own family have shopped here, always welcomed by the Marandino’s. The store has gone out of its way to specially procure products we’ve asked for. When my children were young, we conducted a project comparing Marandino prices to those of other nearby stores for products we actually shop for and Marandinos turned out to be very competitive.

I'll tell you, what a nice surprise on our way home from skiing. The store is going through a bit of a remodel right now but the selection of foods and the kindness of employees or something I haven't experienced in a long time.
