I try to spend money at local places instead of big box shore. But the prices at this place are absolutely ridiculous. I will never go here again. A $18 dollar cheap pump sprayer $35. 30 sec wash $35 everywhere else $19.99. Come on man. I don't mind a few bucks but this is straight up insane. I'll guess I'll take the ride to the Big box or let it get delivered to my door.

There are two True Value stores at almost equal distances from my house: Killingworth and Country Paint and Hardware in North Branford. Both stores are well-stocked, and I can almost always get what I need at either one. Floor staff at both are friendly, helpful, and knowledgable. The difference is at the checkout stand. At Country, the cashiers will greet you with "Hi, how are you today? Did you find everything you needed?" They will then ring up your purchases and, at the last, politely ask for your phone number for the rewards program. But at Killingworth, without making eye contact or any greeting, the two usual cashiers bark "Phone number?" and engage you no further. Once you're done, you pick up your things and say to them, "Thanks, have a good day." They don't respond because they are barking at the next customer, "Phone number?" Leaves a bad impression. It takes so little to make a good one.

TRUE VALUE does not even come close to the EXCELLENCE of this hardware store. Tom, the owner, took over several years ago from his parents (they bought the store 40 years ago). From Tom's leadership and spirit springs some of the most friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful staff imaginable. Until 2022 when I moved to Connecticut, I was in the hotel business in California for fifty years and owning 14 motels and Inns during those five decades I have used the services of a huge number of hardware stores...not one even comes close to Killingworth True Value. Try them once (whether you are close or quite far) and the quality of the inventory, services, staff and their knowledge will make it your to go hardware store in central Connecticut. Jack made me 2 sets of keys for my office that worked perfectly on the first try. He took the time to buff the keys out for me and make a perfect match, I appreciate his efforts, on the back of he tee shirt there was a thumbs up symbol w/ the words "job well done" - nothing could be more true! thank you!Karl hooked me up in the hardware section by cutting a door sweep for me, it fit perfectly and it was a clean cut that I could not do myself w/ a hacksaw, thank you!!2022 Thanks for getting my John Deere Zero radius running perfectly and for absolutely fixing to perfection the cut deck which I destroyed- shoot is perfect bagging perfectly height adjustment working perfectly- THANK YOU2021 This is the second year in a row that I received great, not good, but great service from KTV, Tom and his team fixed up my John Deere Zero Radius to where it runs better than new. Don't laugh, when I bought the tractor from a JD dealer in Old Saybrook not to be mentioned, it was not tuned up correctly, the cut deck was off and even though the tractor ran great it didn't handle well, the turning was too fast and it dug up my lawn (part user fault I would agree) but when I got it back this time someone tool the time to drive it and set the steering handles so they are aligned and she turns smooth as silk and not lawn chopping. So I am very happy and grateful that they did this work over vacation so when I got back on Saturday night I could cut Sunday. Great job! Thank you, Bob Vissers.......August 2019

Always top notch. The owner, Tom Cost, runs one of the best hardware stores you can find anywhere. Their outdoor power equipment section is second to none. Their staff are very attentive, knowledgeable and polite. Store is always well stocked. You will find none better.

The store is well stocked and well organized making easy to locate what you’re looking for. The store is kept clean. The staff is helpful and never hard to find. Besides the retail store they have a service center that can help service many yard tools etc. The store is easy to get to and there’s plenty of parking

The paint pro at this store is awesome. She is super knowledgeable about custom tinting and paint technology. And is also fun and friendly. I wish I had thought to start shopping for paint here sooner.

Killingworth continues to amaze and delight us. Our grill blew over in a recent windstorm and wasn’t functioning properly. Tom came out to pick it up for servicing. Upon closer examination it was just a safety feature we were unaware of to prevent gas leaks in a tip over. Problem solved. No further service needed. Buy local. Better yet go straight to Killingworth Hardware.

The best store ever! Wonderful service for everything that you mightneed. Last spring they serviced my battery operated lawn mower overnight.Currently with the pandemic, I was impressed with how well they are running the store. It is easy to get good info on the phone and then to come and pick it up. I drive from Branford, CT to shop with them. THANK YOU!!

Tom went out of his way on a busy Saturday to help me find a few dollars of fittings and nuts/bolts. I felt bad spending only a few dollars so I bought extra tractor oil which I can always use and it was priced competitively if not better than everyone In the area. Where can you find that great service online or at large stores. So happy I live down the road and Tom is very knowledgeable on all farming and garden implements and helped my keep my vintage tractor factory appearing and stock without cutting any of the factory wiring.Thanks Tom and I will continue shopping at your store for everything I need and hoping for many generations to keep shopping there.

I went there and the people were great. A kid named Hayden helped me find just what I needed for my car and the service was great. Wonderful people who worked there who try to help you any way they can. He even gave me advice on how to use the engine lube the best.

I absolutely love this place. Been coming here for 15 years now. The small engine parts counter has helped me countless times. Staff are friendly and helpful. The hardware selection is amazing as is the selection of tools. Support local and shop here. Also a lot of fun for kids if they like tractors and yard equipment!

Great assortment of products for homeowners and small contractors very friendly staff always helpful. Very clean store. Their power equipment mechanics are little inconsistent sometimes but always fix it with no questions if there are problems. All in all not a bed place.

Best experience ever.We came in to the store today knowing that our old battery powered chainsaw was insufficient to tackle the needs of our new property, but we weren't sure what we really needed either.We encountered Tom as we were browsing, and he spent about an hour with us explaining the ins and outs of these machines.The level of knowledge and comfort in the products that Tom represents is a rare occurence. He gave us his unbiased opinion and experience on each. This gave us the confidence to select a product that was suited to our situation.He even took us out back and showed us how it all worked so we wouldn't lose any fingers !Thank you, Tom, for an outstanding sales experience. We've never had one quite like that.PS.Do those fancy chainsaw chaps come in ladies sizes??

Purchased a new ride on Husqvarna lawn mower and bagger. Dave from sales was knowledgeable and very easy to work with. Had a factory problem with the mower first day. Returned it to the store and owner Tom swapped the mower out instantly with no hesitation. I am a business owner and I really appreciate when someone goes the extra mile to help a customer out.

This should be your first stop for every single project, before home depot and lowe's. I'm not sure what all these other entitled reviews are talking about but the staff here is pleasant, willing to help, and super enjoyable to talk to. This true value has come in clutch every time I've visited. Where home depot and lowe's have failed, I've found what I needed at true value. I'd rate it 6 stars gg I could.

I've been really impressed with their customer service and staff who know the products and how to get things done, the kind of reasons you would shop local rather than HD or Lowes. Further, they stock heavy duty/professional saws, lawn mowers, tractors and rent out seriously big-boy toys like log splitters, grinders, cranes, tractors, etc.

During a winter storm where most of the state lost power true value was up and running on generator power. They we’re able to make hydraulic lines to get my plow back up and running and parts to fix my generator. Great store.

Called to schedule a service / warranty repair on a trimmer that is under warranty. The questions that followed insinuated I was not going to be able to provide the information to get it repaired under warranty. If you want to be an authorized service center maybe the people at craftsman can give you some lessons on customer service. Basically called for help and was treated like I was trying to get something for free. Steer clear unless you want to be spoken down to.

Horrible service! Employees literally run away from helping people. Rude cashiers. No one greets you when you enter the store or even in the isle. Can you say price gouging? I only go there because it is the only hardware store around but if I have the tie or can wait a bit I'll drive somewhere else. I hear the same type of stories from any many different people about this place.

The service department at Killingworth True Value is a joke. They don't stand behind their work, they blame the brand instead of taking responsibility for their mistakes and they don't care about their customers. I brought a Stihl hedge trimmer to them for repair on 7/3/17. They said it had a faulty switch. It took them until 7/11/17 to replace the switch. I picked the trimmer up on 7/12/17 used it for an hour and it malfunctioned again. Brought it back to them. They said they needed to replace the switch again. This time it took them until 8/20/17 to fix! So far it's working, but really, from 7/3-8/20 to replace a switch??!! They said they didn't have the switch and had to wait for Stihl to send it to them, but Stihl insists they had it. I had paid them $70 for the initial repair - yup $70! to replace a switch. Upon pick up on 8/20, I asked them for some sort of credit/reimbursement for the aggravation of getting the runaround and all the time it took to fix. The service manager Dave said it wasn't their problem and that I should go get money back from Stihl. Really?? This is how you treat a customer that has spent thousands of dollars in your store? I called Stihl and they are working on doing something for our troubles. The good news is I found a new repair shop in Deep River. Hanks. Hank is the best. I brought him a weed wacker to repair and he had it back to me in 2 days working perfectly, and he charged half the price of these clowns that don't know what they're doing at Killingworth True Value.
