New owners don't seem to care much for the business or the customers. The staff always seem bothered to help with anything and the aisles are cluttered with boxes. Store is usually pretty dirty and unkept, and I wouldn't touch the deli counter with a 10' pole. I wish it was better because it's a convenient spot but man, there is a lot left to be desired.

The Village Market is a fantastic place to visit. It offers a wide variety of products, from fresh produce to handmade crafts. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the vendors are friendly. Overall, it's a great spot for shopping and enjoying a vibrant community ambiance.

Even though I live a way aways from the Market, I love to shop there. It's a small market with beautiful organic produce, organic products, a meat market display filled with eye candy for the carnivore. The employees and the owner are very personable, friendly and helpful. The shopping experience there takes me back to a time when shopping meant going to the local market, not some huge cookie cutter mega mart you could get lost in.I recommend this gem to anyone looking for quality..not quantity.

What a wonderful little gem in the heart of this little town. Great selection of...everything a market should have. And I was VERY impressed with their butcher shop! Beautiful cuts of beef and very reasonable prices. šŸ‘Œ

The market changed hands recently so some inventory is in flux but they have a great selection and all but a few things Iā€™ve looked for in recent months. Quick tip: If you have any questions or problems talk to the folks at the meat counter. They are the most knowledgeable in the store.

New ownership is making changes that don't align with the reasons we shop there. It used to be a weekly part of grocery shopping, but haven't been in over a month. It's been maybe three months since a monthly specials circular was issued in our local paper and out of sight; out of mind.Hopefully they can reverse course and go back to what they were.

Higginum Market is a wonderful store that is great for the local community and have most everything you could need but there are some problems. It is very small and the ailes are only one person wide and do not have room for two way traffic. It also have very expencive prices compared to a bigger store but other than that it is a wonderful store for the local people.

Was looking for Tucson Tamales, which Higganum carries. Other people talk about a packed store with many choices. They are right. You could spend a lot of time walking the aisles and find something new around the next corner. The deli is great and there are even small prepared meals. Definitely worth visiting. Also adequate parking.

Has just about every specialty item you can think of, including paneer and various Asian noodles. Lots of organic, gluten free etc options. Things are pricy unless you follow sales - the cost of convenience/having everything in a tiny country store. The store is clean and the personnel friendly. Vtje deli meat is high quality.

The owners of this store and their employees , though attempting to be caring, are very misinformed about laws vs ā€œmandatesā€, as well as discrimination. I was treated abhorrently, though I am a law abiding citizen who is healthy and in no way poses any threat to the public, where they are open for commerce and legally binding to serve me. I am sending them information by certified mail, to help them understand my rights as well as theirs, and I am as of yet undecided if I will do business with them in the future. It is a sad state of affairs that businesses and many citizens in this country do not know the laws that are put in place, superseded by no unlawful ā€œstate mandatesā€, to protect its citizens from discrimination.

I love this little store! I don't come here as often as I'd like but I'm always amazed by it, every square inch is loaded w/goods! Some aisles you have to squeeze thru because it's so packed! In addition to the conventional foods they have a good selection of gluten free as well as some dairy free foods, which is the reason I go. They are the only store around that sells dairy free Wayfare cheese spreads, so even though it's a 70 min round trip it's worth it to me! Prices are comparable w/other smaller grocers. If you're ever in the Higganum/Middletown area, you have to stop in. You'll find something there that no one else sells!

Great little village market grocery store. Amazing inventory of unusual hard to find items - healthy, ethnic, gourmet, imported, gluten or dairy free, etc. Plus all the usual staples, dairy, deli, meats, etc. Prices aren't terrible, considering it's a small local place, and sometimes they have great sales.

Iā€™ve been a regular customer of this market for years. In the last two months Iā€™ve purchase 3 separate items that once I returned home, discovered those items were spoiled and rotten. The first time, I decided it was a simple mistake and simply threw away the item and assumed the loss. The second time, which was a week ago, I called and explained the cheese I bought was in fact rotten and not fit for human consumption. The individual from the market said to bring it back for an exchange, it was the weekend after a long week, so once again, I decided to let it slide since I live about 20 minutes away. Today, I was once again sold rotten cheese. This time I decided to drive all the way back to the market to show the staff the issue. When I returned, I showed the rotten food to the cashier who checked me out less than an hour before, she told me she could not do an exchange because I didn't have a receipt. When I checked out the first time I declined the receipt (who wants all that extra paper), the cashier knew this, as well as recognized me from my prior visit, and still, declined my exchange. I had to request to speak with a ā€œmanagerā€ and explained that I was sold rotten food, that the cashier who sold me the rotten item recognized me from my previous visit to the store and upon my return, refused my exchange. After having no common sensical reason to again decline my exchange, the ā€œmanagerā€ obliged my request. This whole situation was completely ridiculous and the ā€œcustomer serviceā€ was simply unacceptable. Not only that, there was ZERO effort by the staff to inspect the rest of the cheese in their cooler for more rotten items, which are certainly hiding in there for the next unsuspecting customer. Unless I can get further reassurance from management that rotten food will no longer be sold to customers, I will avoid this market in the future and encourage my fellow shoppers to do the same. Sad.

This is the best thing to happen to downtown Higganum in a very long time. It is so convenient and really quite reasonably priced for the quality products they sell. It is similar to having a Whole Foods right in town. If you are looking for gluten free food you will find an alternative to almost any product. I hope this market stays around for a long time.

I thought it quite overpriced and it has a weird smell, and kinda dirty. They did have decent looking meats in the case. I won't return.

Pretty good place, very packed full so the aisles are very small. Have some items that other places don't which is nice when you need to get some things that are special.

This market is now called the Village Market, having changed hands around June 2013. Because it is now under different management, any review appearing below that predates June 2013. whether good or bad, is no longer relevant. It is a local market (not to be compared to Stop & Shop) and those of us who live in the area find it very, very convenient to have this market and are happy to use it. Price-wise it cannot compete with Stop & Shop un Middletown, but it carries lines of food not available elsewhere and its existence is important to our community, including the other shops that surround it. Furthermore, the time and gas money saved from not having to go all the way to Middletown does make a difference.

Really neat neighborhood store. Pretty much EVERY neat ingredient that you'd ever need! A bit pricey but still a very cool market!
