Let me add my kudos to those of many on this site. I needed to find somewhere to buy wines after having someone who is no longer in the area help me for a long time. My former helper suggested Jacob and the crew at The Wise Old Dog, and this was supported by online reviews and friends. WOW, were they all right. This place is a gem and as other have said, everyone there is dedicated to helping (including the pups!). This place is the Zabars of wine here... incredibly well set up and comfortable and a place that, like the staff, is there to help you. Jacob is so knowledgeable but not at all pretentious (I know NOTHING about wine) but felt helped, not lectured to. The rest of the staff were also friendly and helpful

There is no place like it in my experience. Every employee is kind, fun, and knows a lot. If they don’t know about what you’re asking for they’ll find someone in the shop who does. The prices aren’t the rock bottom prices you might find elsewhere, but let’s be honest you’re paying for the amazing staff who helped you find what you were looking for! Wise Old Dog’s team is living proof that amazing, personal, non-pretentious customer service is still alive and well.

Great spot! They have a wide selection of organic wines from unique vineyards and a large selection of craft beers. Thomas helped my wife and I pick out some new wines to try, which were spot on with our palate. Highly recommend The Wise Old Dog!

I went in for a quick stop to grab some wine for dinner and was helped quickly and ended up with 2 great choices! From the brief time I was there it looks like they have a great selection. The woman helping was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and gave me recommendations of places to visit while I was in town. Highly recommend!

Gem of liquor store in West Hartford; solid pricing (not big box store level, but very competitive). I'm not a wine expert, but they appear to be very knowledgeable, and the staff is always very pleasant and helpful. If you're into Bourbon or Scotch, this is the place to visit - their single barrel picks are always above great!

The owner Jacob and manager Thomas are very customer focused. All the staff is so friendly. You have top stop in here. They have wine classes on Wednesdays for $10. They are very knowledgeable on all the alcohol they sell whether it is a craft beer, wine or what alcohol is best for a sangria. You become fast friends. The price point is reasonable. They have more expensive items and whatever they don't have they will order. One Christmas, I was telling Jacob I didn't know what to get my father, he made a custom wine per month package with notes for what it paired with in a beautiful packaging!! I can't say enough about how great this place is. And they are pet friendly. 😁

Hands down the best store I’ve ever been to. Not just the best liquor store, but the best customer experience I’ve ever received. Jacob, Thomas, and the rest of the staff know every bottle on their shelves and will give you an honest, fair, and spot-on recommendation for any occasion. They are also invested in their customers and will remember the types of wine or beer you enjoy and have other recommendations available based on your preferences. Additionally, their tastings and education events expose you to wide variety of wines from regions around the world often with the wine producers themselves or experts in the field. Cannot recommend this place more.

What a wonderful friendly experience at The Wise Old Dog. Place is beautifully organized and clean. Incredible customer service! Jim helped pick out the best wine for my needs. He gave me a mini education on Pinot Noir that was fascinating. Then offered to gift wrap my bottle without me even asking. Highly recommend!

This place is amazing. Jacob has a very good selection of boutique wines, liquors and whisky as well as an amazing selection of craft beer. The staff is super knowledgeable and can help you find the right drink to go with a meal or as a gift. Don't just go here, go here and ask an employee for a recommendation. Always incredibly friendly when we drop by to pick up drinks. Also great to trust a store like The Wise Old Dog as I've never had to double check the canned dates on beer (unlike some other stores in the area)! Sometimes there will be tastings on Fridays and they offer several other events throughout the month.

It was a small yet satisfying place to be. They were doing wine tasting in the end corner of the store while we were greeted by the wise old dog himself in the beer alley. The people that work there were very kind and seemed to really take their job seriously as when a customer would ask a question they were professional and proficient in answering the question. The prices were good. Nippers are all in a box and are a dollar. I love the set up of the store all besides when it came to cashing out. We we're in line and were getting cut off bc the people in the other side couldn't see us standing in line so we were cut off by three customers .. they should fix that situation. One line to cash out and put a start and an end to the floor or tape it off so everyone can see it. We will definitely remember this package

Yeah. We love this place. Buying alcohol is just the excuse for going to the Wise Old Dog. That might be why you walk in—but that’s not why you stay. Jacob, Thomas and the gang will make you feel like you’ve known them a lifetime and they will treat you like family. They will order anything they can (reasonably) get their hands on for you and are so well connected that they often have access to very limited edition offerings that you won’t find at the likes of Total Wine or the other competitors. Go check them out. Don’t wait another day.

Owner and staff are knowledgeable and helpful and don't just try to get you to buy the most expensive bottle they have but actually ask you questions and make recommendations on what you already like, whether that turns out to be a cheap bottle or not.Additionally, they have an amazing selection of Single malts!

Wise Old Dog is a wine, beer, and spirits *boutique* and I haven't been anywhere like it. So if you're looking to save a couple dollars on something cheap for a recipe, then this isn't the place to go. But if you want to try something new, buy something nice, or ask for a recommendation? I've never been treated better than I have been at Wise Old Dog.Also - a special thanks to Jacob for all his help! Can't wait to try this Ruadh Mhor!

This is a fantastic local store. The employees know their stuff and will give you great advice about what to buy. They don't just sell you the most expensive thing either. Make sure you check out the tastings on Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons.

As a beer person, that's all I've ever purchased here, however the selection is good. They carry a variety of craft brews, domestic and foreign. I've often gone in with something in mind and invariably, they have it. The owner is knowledgeable and very friendly.
