One of the best burgers i have had in years. Absolutely recommended. Eclairs are huge and tasty, rolls are freshly baked. French fries were made from real fresh cut deep fried potato, which is extremely rare these days. serving local soda instead the usual boring stuff.Friendly atmosphere and awesome people running the place! The restaurant is homelike, a lot of art and small pieces that make it feel like you are at home.Overall, this is the place to dine-in or take out, much better than any other places I have been in the area, also the value is really good. I read that place overpriced? I disagree completely, you get much more for what you pay.10/10!

Quaint little store in the middle of nowhere. Only one person doing everything. The chicken parmigiana sandwich that I ordered was made from a meatball type of meat, but honestly very good and the toasted roll was perfect. The only complaint that I would have is that the time it took to cook it was a bit long. If you are not in a hurry, this place may just be the place to go.

A fantastic little stop for folks passing through town to grab a bite to eat. The staff were welcoming and incredibly helpful. I’d recommend stopping in for lunch! Mine was great.

The sandwiches cannot be beat… the bread is so fresh I literally have cravings for it. The best part about this place though will always be the atmosphere and the owner. Every time I walk in I feel like part of the family, and that is something no other place has and money can’t buy. Oh and he does catering and the food he can create for your event go well beyond the store menu and are incredible!

Great freshly baked cinnamon bun Sunday.#The post Thanksgiving weekly Friday special shrimp scampi pizza was a nice twist on toppings ($21.95) and the sausage with green peppers had good flavor($15.45). Since ours were take-out we reheated both in a 250 degree oven which added a crispy brown bottom to the dough. Check weekly pizza on Facebook.#Our meal here latter fall included the outdoor sandwich sign breakfast, egg, sausage and cheese on a roll plus a small coffee, a bagel with cream cheese and bacon special, six wings for $7.98 - we chose buffalo - and a half of a boulvain puff pastry with a cream cheese center and local farm blueberry compote freshly made by the chef/owner. He kindly gave this to us on the house. As with the roast beef sandwich I reviewed previously, this confection today showed this rural eatery can go gourmet and show culinary skills beyond deli fare, and their buffalo chicken still can use improvement. The wings were cool in temperature, dry and had little flavor. Perhaps this is not their forte, unlike their house pizzas which are a huge success sold on Fridays.#Two more fine sandwiches from the Colebrook Store this last Sunday. Specials of the day board: Crispy chicken with bacon, shredded lettuce and tomato on a hard roll with choice of ranch or honey mustard, and Roast Beef with goat cheese, homemade fig jam and arugula on a hard roll with spicy mustard. The chicken sandwich was popular as we heard many people ordering it. My partner gobbled it down and loved it. The roast beef sandwich had a couple of interesting components that made a palate think while eating, but worked well overall.Only odd entry here, is it took almost a half hour to get a cup of coffee, as the medium brew carafe was empty, and the dark brew had only half a small cup left. Mixed with decaf, still available, my partner was able to get one cup.The gal waiting on us, and everyone as customers kept coming through the door, was really busy as cashier, order taker, and server. I even opened the door for her as she struggled to get two "for here" baskets outside on to the porch. Between orders, serving, and ringing up tabs, fresh coffee beans were grinded and brewed, and I had a great cup of coffee at the end of my meal.#Going to Colebrook we always stop at the town store for a bite. We ordered our usual breakfast sandwiches shown in my photos. Still good. Thought I'd post some more interior store photos and mention their weekend fresh baked eclairs. They are sold as either foot longs or dots. We bought one of each to take home to family who said they were good. One thought the shoe of the foot long was a little dry and wondered if they'd been made a day or two before. Kept in a refrigerator case on a baking sheet, hard to say, but a lot of people buy them. It's a real nice old town feel local store. Opens M-F 6AM/Sat&Sun 7AM;closes at 5PM Memorial Day thru Labor Day. Sundays all year and M-F during winter they close at 4PM.#In December 2019, we enjoyed two breakfast sandwiches, both grilled hard rolls, one with egg, ham and cheese and the other with cheese and sausage. Their selection of coffee is always warm and varied. Christmas decor was sweet and subtle. Friendly service.#Colebrook is a lovely small town in Litchfield County. The general store has been open and closed over the years. Our second visit, I chose a roast beef sandwich because the roast in the case was rare. Telling them this when ordering, it was odd when I got two slim well-done pieces of meat in a roll.My friend's buffalo chicken sandwich had more meat, but he said it had no buffalo flavor. We also had two small bowls of homemade chili which were big and tasty.#An earlier visit gave us two good bowls of chicken soup and crackers. Overall, I would suggest the specials of the day over the regular menu.#Updating this review, the chili was still good, and their special for the day, a "Thanksgiving" sandwich, which had turkey, stuffing and cranberry mayo on a roll was satisfying. Big in size, one half was plenty for both of us.

I used to love this place. I took my daughter there about 2 months ago (40 minute drive) because we thought it would be a nice place to stop for lunch. We were the only people there. I ordered a burger and was told by the girl working that she didn’t know how to make a burger. Then I tried 2 more items which she told me she couldn’t make. I left with an only a coffee which I asked for cream in and she me skim. I gave it the benefit of the doubt and went again today. She told me it would take 20 mins to make a burger. Again we were the only ones there. A little confusing but ok. When I said I would wait she left came right back and said they are out of burgers. It was really obvious she just didn’t want to make it. Again left with nothing. Also, she charged me for a burrito not a burger. She didn’t offer to reimburse me, I had to ask after an uncomfortable amount of time went by. It’s safe to say I won’t go back after these two really odd experiences with this waitress.

Absolutely delicious food! The hot roast beef grinder with caramelized onions was tender and super tasty! We picked up a homemade blueberry peach pie for a picnic. One of the best pies ever the flavor and crust was delicious. We are looking forward to going back to try a pizza and an eclair 🙂

A deli with all the good parts. Maybe you can’t get Fritos or a hundred flavors of Coke but the veggies-only sandwich is better than most other places and they have good root beer. Not necessarily nostalgic but just what I remember good delis having growing up. I heard the Friday night pizzas are excellent. A great place to meet for lunch.

We went in to get a coffee which was good. We saw the eclairs so we decided to get some. They were soooo slow and all we got was two eclairs. We got a vanilla and chocolate but they gave us two chocolate! The dough was too thick and dry but the pudding was good though. $8 for an eclair is just ridiculous. The girl who took our order though was very sweet.

Eclairs We're Awful. Not enough chocolate on top and No taste. Purchased 4 and one box was packed with the eclair packed on its side. Way to much money $33 for something I couldn't even eat.

First time visitor, but felt like I was visiting friends. Great service, great sandwiches, and some of the biggest homemade chocolate chip cookies I've seen! The building has cool local history decor, and a moose and bear pushpin sighting map... It has everything you'd want from a general store!

New store owner, very young guy. Staff asked many questions on how to make sandwiches. Didn’t wear gloves when prepping the sandwiches and failed to make decent coffee not sure how you mess coffee up but they managed. Needs a full on improvement but until then I recommend anyone to just get Dunkin Donuts (extra 5 minute drive) sad the oldest running store in America is ran by a bunch of fools

Charming location. Varied menu. They forgot to add the bacon to our our bacon egg and cheese panini, but we didnt ask for them to address it as they were a bit busy and seemed to be struggling to hit their stride. The staff and owner were pleasant and courteous the prices seemed reasonable. We will definatly give them another try!

I went to this store years ago when i was young. It was a very nice store. Like one of the reviewer said it has opened and closed a few times. Glad to see it is open now. Sounds like a nice store again. I can't wait to visit it. I remember buying a sugar daddy there often.

I fondly remember the Colebrook Store. Every year from 1958 to 1965 my brother and I went to a YMCA camp called Camp Hide-a-way my brother and I would go there for two weeks every summer and a couple days before we went home, we'd walk to the Colebrook Store when we would go buy candy or ice cream or goodies. I was so amazed that the family that owned that store in those days, apparently their family owned the store going back to the War of 1812. I live in CA. now, but I can remember that the gaps between the old floorboards, I would have loved to have gotten underneath there with my metal detector. After a couple of centuries imagine what must have been underneath that building.. I have many many wonderful memories of going there every year in my childhood and then later in my young adult years. My brother and I used to go up there to fish..

The only thing missing is Sam Drucker.Another beautiful touch of history. I've only had breakfast here but it's always good. Put a black jellybean in your coffee, they have them by the cashier, it adds a flavor similar to sambuca.

We stopped in to get the eclairs, as they are famous. I saw a blueberry pie and took it home. I have a picture of the blueberry pie. The eclaire's are long gone!!

A small town locus. I enjoyed local gossip, a newspaper, and a good hot breakfast, which they cooked exactly to my liking. I imagine the very friendly staff learn their patrons' first names pretty quickly.
