This grocery chain is a little on the pricier side compared to its competition. However, it's clean, well stocked, and has a great prepared foods section. On the weekends, it gets busy. The produce was fresh; had the clementines and they were the sweetest. The meats counter had a unique selection to choose from. We had the Chinese sausages and they were delicious.I walked by the sushi section and the chef was rolling up fresh rolls right before lunch time.If you have a sweet tooth, I recommend their dollar chocolate pies, SO GOOD!Checkout: they have quite a few self checkouts available and an associate ready to assist. Bring your own bags or pay 10 cents per paper bag. Overall, it's a good spot to get some of your grocery needs.

Shopping here the other day since the eighties and when this store had a few names, I thought I'd take some more photos of its interior to show more than the spicy tuna roll that's up in my photos right now. Big Y is a consumer friendly chain with upscale product choices along with regular sundries. Avon's Big Y makes the best fresh paczki once to twice a year in their bakery case; Torrington's Big Y makes the best daily doughnuts; Mystic's Big Y is nirvana for foodies - top shelf.#Big modern grocery store with fresh baked goods, sushi, fine fish and butcher cases.

Friendly staff, but generally more expensive for most items than a slightly further grocery store (for us). Produce can be hit or miss - most of the time, it's good, but it doesn't last long - like you have to eat it in a day or two of purchase. We only shop here for immediate need items or when necessary.

I was there today .. and in the produce section near the organic veggies area walking by. Not sure if it was coming from that display area or the middle of the are display as you walk through the door. Towards the left … it smelled like death. Like a good bad whiff … not rotting fruit… worse .. so yall may wanna see if you have a dead mouse somewhere .. not saying that is what it is …. But it’s worth making sure. Everyone has mice snd if they tell you they don’t they’re oblivious or in denial. Sorry ..

This a the perfect store if you are in to your very own store sponsored shadow. Not only will they not speak to you, but they will stand over your shoulder, and watch as you ring every item out in the self check out. While the front end supervisor stands at his letecturn enjoying his voyeuristic fantasies of Domination. Please keep in mind that I did have a sweatshirt on and dirty work boots as it is fall.Words of advice: should you go to this store please wear your Sundays best if you don't want to feel like someone is watching you or starring over your shoulder.

The employee who was outside moving carts today moved a cart that was left by another customer in front of my car. I watched in disbelief as he moved the cart through the tight space between me and another car as I was sitting in the driver's seat when there was another clear wide path he could've taken. I cringed and of course he bumped the cart into my side mirror leaving a long deep scratch. Unbelievable they allow such incompetent employees.

The Seafood department closes at 8pm but everytime I order fish and chips at 7:30pm they seem to be emptying the fryers. How is that my problem? You should be able to service until 8pm like your timings.

Avon Big Y much better than Plainville. Cleaner and not always out of products. Never found moldy baked goods here. Management seems to be doing a good job.

Big Y is a staple of Connecticut. They virtually always have Driscoll's strawberries, and their chocolate chip cookies are very good. My mom says the pizza is pretty mediocre. It's well organized, and the people who work there are nice. It's got some nice end caps with local products :)

Their bakery is out of this world. The chocolate cake with chocolate frosting is to die for. 10/10 would recommend.

PLEASE READToday I was disrespected by two store mangers at the Avon, CT location. One of them was blonde and the other had reddish-brown hair. I was helping a woman from Korea try to buy gift cards. This woman did not know English and needed a translator app.!!! I was NOT aware she had tried to buy gift cards before I arrived !!!When we went up to the counter to pay I realized she did not have her BIG Y card. I tried to explain to her that she needed the card but, I couldn't get through to her. I was expecting the management or someone to help me or take over the situation but, was confronted by one of the mangers who raised her tone at ME! She could have told me in a calm way about the situation but, NO! Then the other manger then came over and told ME to tell her she needs to leave! I was disgusted by the way they treated me and the way they wanted me to do their JOB!! They acted as if I knew about the situation at hand !! I was just trying to be a good citizen instead I got yelled at !!Stop and Shop is looking better and better now.Big Y do something about your management!!

A far as grocery stores go in this part of Connecticut , Big-Y is one of the better stores , they always seem to be clean and well organized. Selection is always really good. Bakery and Deli is very nice, baked goods are excellent.. Checkout is almost always a non event. The Cheshire Ct location is without a doubt my favorite. I is quite literally like shopping at a grocery store that is owned by your family or best friend. EVERYONE is super friendly and helpful. I don't get to that store very often since I moved across the state, but miss it. They have a man named Roy that works in the lot. He is so much more than a man that get the shopping carriages, he ALWAYS says hello, always asks "hi , how are you ? so nice to see you again!! I will help you load your car if you like when you come out!"INCREDIBLY good attitude..and very sincere.Stop & shop, Shop Rite??? I have never had a grocery shopping experience that even comes close.

It's 2023 and it saddens me to have to write this. Unfortunately, for this location, it is employees grotesquely treating other employees. People are made of a plethora of different ethnicities and races. There are employees in this location that are treating their employees of color wrong. Management is allowing said employees to work alone for hours with no help. Additionally, micro-aggression by managers is being overlooked and rewarded. Managers are allowed to leave early while said employees of color have to stay and work alone. Please don't shop at a place that thinks it's okay to give certain employees extra work. Additionally, the lack of respect managers have for their employees overall is sad. I will no longer shop at this establishment. It is a bullying culture and that is something I can’t bare to witness any longer.

I found almost everything I needed. Some produce I went for was sold out. Their distilled water was $1.29. I pay less than a dollar for it at Whole Foods. So I'm not crazy about the over priced items. I'd shop there more often if not for that. I appreciate their organic and natural food options. Store is clean and orderly with friendly and helpful employees.

Super friendly folks at this Big Y. Never a problem with either staff or product, and consistently good sales. A bit pricier than other local supermarkets, but the deli and meat counter make up for it. To boot, sandwiches and pizza are a great deal for what you get. Particularly good for kids parties!

There are a lot of choices for grocery stores in the Farmington Valley but Big Y is consistently the best place to go. The stores are clean and modern. They are well stocked (even in this crazy Covid world). They offer a really good variety in most food categories. They have good prices and sales. Their bakery is really good - soooo much better than Stop & Shop. I also really like their pizza shop. They have a great beer section too. Most of their employees are long-term employees- I've been seeing the same cashiers and managers for years- and I like that because they are very friendly.
