Small dog lost at large. Animal control officers were able to arrive within 45 minutes. They were helpful and kind. Dog is back home with her family.

Went to visit today. Although we did not come home with a dog I was very impressed with how attentive and engaged the staff were; especially Ashley. They were open and honest about what they knew or didn't know about a specific dog for adoption.

Don’t return your phone calls. Just like every other place in Mesa County. It’s a blessing we have here. Not to hear from elected officials. It could be much worse.

MCAS is a great service in Mesa County, they truly care about helping lost animals get back to their families or get new homes. We have gone in multiple times during their business hours to visit dogs, with hopes of finding a new dog to add to our family. If you are looking to adopt a pet, we highly recommend stopping into Mesa County Animal Shelter.

Ashley Kindall is the most incompetent officer I've ever met from ANY government agency. A few of the people that work at MCAS are great but Ashley Kindall is absolutely appalling.

They do nothing. All I hear is dogs barking 12 hrs a day. People around me lock their dogs outside in freezing Temps and animal services does nothing. Clearly they do not give 2 shots about animals

We just brought home our second rescue (the first one came from Roice-Hurst Humane) and Animals Services was great to work with. They care very much for all the animals that end up in their facility. We had to provide proof of rabies shots for our current cat and dog, as will as our dogs license. The adoption included a rabies vaccination plus the other standard vacs, spay/neutering if needed, and a Mesa County license.RESCUE DON'T BUY FROM BREEDERS**Follow-Up**Reading some of the other reviews I must say people do not seem to understand how this system works. ALL animal shelters in Mesa County spay/neuter every cat and dog that comes through their doors. They will not release an unaltered animal without a written agreement that you will get the procedure done or until they're done it themselves, depending on the place. Also, it bears pointing out that animal control serves the entire county and receives over 1000 calls per month.

The staff at the front counter was fabulous, making sure to go to extra lengths to help me get my dog back after he jumped a fence. Officer Rojo was calm and polite and made sure to explain the process as she went. While I am not particularly happy with having my dog disobey and cause us trouble, I was pleasantly surprised at the professionalism and care exhibited by all of the staff members I encountered.

Would be nice if animal patrol opened these gates so at least the dogs who are strays have the crate to lay in. It's 11 degrees outside ATM and I HATED having to do this right before work. It broke my heart. This place can do better.

I won't do business with them again. The only person that acted like they even sorta cared about the animals was a kennel tech. I drove 2 hours because they told me a specific little dog was available and ready to go but when I got there they said she hadn't been spayed yet, that it would be 3 more weeks!??! And they told me then, not before I drove all the way there, that I needed proof of rabies for all my other pets, cats included, so they charged me (too much)and I adopted her but I had to wait a month, then I had to pay for her spay and pick her up from a vet in Grand jct. They didn't even chip her. I've just never dealt with such horrible rood women, in all my years of adopting. All they care about is how much $ they can make off the pure breeds thay have stashed in there.

We have called at least 10 times about nuisance barking, literally hours a day this dog barks, and the owner doesn't care at all. They have only ever gotten back to us once, and then none of the promised follow up ever materialized.

Worst customer service I've ever experienced! Gave me a number to call for lost and found but number does not work! Call back to verify if I had number wrong or if there was another means and got told that she gave me all the information she has and there's nothing else she could do. Then I asked to speak to her manager she got rude about it and said that it's an answering service. I don't care if it's an answering service in India I wanted to talk to a manager to let them know that their employee is very disrespectful. Reviews do a good job too sad to say that when people lose a loved one and their family they can't rely on the animal shelter and their own town to provide service. Looks like our tax money is wasted giving people a good lie that don't deserve it.

I've only been visited the shelter a handful of times, but the staff has nearly always been very helpful. The only exception was when some employees tried to talk us out of adopting a dog we had shown interest in, probably because they thought he didn't fit our family. We ended up getting a dog somewhere else because we'd already been looking around, so it worked out for us, but their actions still rubbed me the wrong way.

I will give it 2 stars for the 2 people that were of help... Jo at MCAS and Doug the director of MCAS . My dog was found & taken by the people who work at U-Haul they put my dog in the cages outside Roice Hurst for Animal Control to pick up. I got to Roice Hurst before they did. I called the number to MCAS and was told that an officer would be there to unlock the cage....I was at Roice Hurst @ 3:15 P.M. the dog officer didn't show up until 5:45 😡 my dog was freezing in freezing temps with nothing but a soaking wet blanket.....The officer said he was the only one on shift and was in glade Park all day.....I mean on the plus side I didn't have to pay to get my dog back because MCAS never took him but if All you guys do is unlock the cage have us sign a paper and give the dog back Then leave the keys with Roice Hurst to unlock the cage I wouldn't have waited 3 hours today get my dog

I will go to Fruita City council to advocate for the city to have an Animal response that reflects it's values. I do believe Fruitloops care for their and others animals. Trying to get help for an injured lost dog for two hours in the snow with two of us making multiple calls and speaking to dispatch and dispatch supervisor and leaving messages for animal control was one of the more frustrating experiences of late. We ended up getting help and getting dog to vet but with no help from Animal control. I know they are probably underfunded and understaffed, but such a moral failure and poor reflection on the county.

Nothing to brag about with this place. Been here looking for a new dog & the first two times nobody spoke to us at all, not even asking us if they could help us or if we had any questions about the dogs that were up for adoption. Third time we visited, a girl at the front desk did speak to us. We looked at the dogs outside & decided we liked one so, we asked if we could visit with them. A lady took us into a room with file cabinets & desk so we could visit with the dog. Hardly any room for us & the dog. After spending some time with this dog, we decided the dog was too energetic for what we were looking for. The lady tried to tell us that the dog had been locked in the kennel for three weeks so she had lots of energy. We still said that we didn't think this dog was the right one for us & she acted like she got offended because we didn't adopt this dog. Seemed to put the pressure on us to adopt this dog. We knew the dog wouldn't work out for us so, we said no. The lady didn't seem to want to work with us to find another dog after that so, we left the shelter. The bleach smell was SO strong in the shelter, way too strong for me, not to mention the animals in the shelter. I feel sorry for the animals there who have to smell that strong bleach odor like that. Not impressed with our experience here.

They are always kind and helpful. My cat went missing for a few days. They have a board that the public can pin missing signs or information about animals on which is nice and helpful. The front desk workers were very nice when my cat was missing.

Mesa County Animal Control has shown that they do not care about animals. They pick and choose their hours, they are rude, they do not take calls seriously, and most of all they just do not respond to calls. Whoever chose to run this shelter has lost their care and love for animals or they never had that care and love in the first place. Such a shame that this is all Mesa County has to help with abandoned and/or abused animals.

We were told by their officer that we could pick our dog up and apply to have the fee waived. That's an outright lie. We went in Friday to get him and we're told we had to pay $95 to get him back.

Staff treat customers like they are a inconvenience, they act like you wanting to adopt a pet is a hardship for them. Would not recommend to anyone looking for a rescue animal. They will paperwork you to death and then tell you that basically you are a scumbag for not carrying your rental agreement with you. Maybe if they had all that on their website then folks would not come without every line if paperwork needed. But they just expect you to be psychic. The fact that we live over an hour away meant nothing. Typical government run place.

Our dog was hit and passed away and we called and went to MCAS several times and they always claimed to not have her and then we discovered they had her for several days before we basically had to force them to let us get her. Before that when she had gotten arrested we were at a funeral and we found out and went to get her and they wouldn't release her to us even though we were there 10 minutes after they closed so she had to stay over night and we had to pay a lot more money. It was very frustrating.

Only in it for the money apparently. I was treated like a criminal when it was my first offense. They told me the only reason I didn’t get a warning was because my dog was unaltered(neutered). I tried to speak reasonably and all I got was “you already paid for it so nothing can be done”. Does that seem like an organization that cares when we are one of the worst economical states since the Great Depression. Especially when I immediately paid the citation and I’m being punished for that? My dog won’t be getting food this week or his vaccinations because they would not refund the citation that should have been a warning. Clearly it’s not a matter of whether the animals are getting what they need it’s about what’s going in there wallets. The officer that wrote the ticket didn’t even get the address right when it was on my license that he had in his 1 hr and a half process to write the ticket and he didn’t even get my dogs breed correctly when I told him what breed he was. If they arn’t even paying that much attention to detail, what kind of care is going to the animals. My dog did not attack anyone and him getting out was not due to anyone’s negligence it was just a freak accident that I have since fixed and won’t be a problem. Thank you Mesa county animal control for literally taking food from my dogs mouth.
