The perfect grocery store. Always has the essentials at a very reasonable price and carries many of the sauces and extra items for a weekly grocery shop! What I appreciate most: excellent prices, a clean and attractive environment, well stocked and maintained, great brick oven pizza, and all-around a very nice store! Walsenburg is very lucky to have First Choice and I encourage supporting it ❤️❤️ It would be nice if cashiers and staff were a bit more pleasant but it isn’t a big problem.

I don’t come to town very often since I don’t live in Walsenburg, but compared to the other grocery store in town. This is a much better, smaller and friendlier or alternative.

430 pm on Monday 7/10. Picking up dinner. Chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy. Customer in front of me is informed that they are out of gravy. I asked for gravy and I am informed of the same. I asked when they close, 6pm. I am also informed that they do not have any chicken breasts. The young man explained that they were not making any more because of the potential waste.. Another customer is told the same thing about chicken and gravy. The sides I did order did not have lids for the containers. The plastic wrap they used leaked. Very disappointed .. sometimes a business will ignore a review like this, and do nothing. This is not the case with First Choice owner and staff. I was immediately contacted. The issue was discussed and a solution applied. Every company has problems, few like First Choice take action. Thank you and great job Hugh and Mr Maldonado.

Great little store, amazing house made turnovers and pastries. The cakes the bakery does are so cute! Great selection in the deli and all the csr 's are super helpful and knowledgeable. Will definitely go back

For about a year I have enjoyed picking up a few things at first choice market because if its convenience/ location.Today, an employee,Anthony, decides to make a big deal about my backpack. I have always carried it, talked with all the employees, and was even considering employing Anthony for some work on the farm.Yelling across the store, for his supervisor, seemingly overwhelmed and extremely flamboyantly, with the fact I said no, to his request to leave my personal belongings, wallet, and information at the counter. I will not cater to anyone suggesting I would steal from them, especially from a character acting in such a mannerI will not be shopping there any longer, and I will invest interest in their competition, advertise against them, and direct as many of Walsenburg patrons elsewhere...

Whether you’re traveling through town or you live here it’s a go to for a cheap pizza 1299 one topping easily feeds two or three adults super friendly staff, Anthony in Deli top-notch! The only negative they’re a little bit understaffed, so can be slow at checkout

Was ignored at the bakery dept yesterday (waited approx 5 mins) there were two employees there and no other customers waiting. As I was leaving the store, stopped by customer service to tell her what happened and she just looked at me, she should have offered to get me assistance at the bakery but chose to say nothing.

Basic supermarket to serve all your basic needs out in South Colorado where there's not a lot of options. The packaged cold cut meat was gray.Not sure what the deal is with the meat in this state but I haven't found a place that sells fresh meat in the 2 months I've spent my time traveling. Not blaming this supermarket for it just an observation. The meat here didn't look like it was packaged fresh and a lot of sitting in blood. The produce was enough to get you by on what you need. The baked items wasn't as impressed as a comment I read but still picked up a cheese Danish.The cashier was very kind.

We always stoop here on our way to and from South Fork for a break, get some drinks and some of their yummy bakery items. So very delicious and fresh. Some are real Mexican pastries, which I love. They also have appetizing to go meals. The store is neat and clean. I would give a 5, but I don't like having to go and get the "Key" for the restroom that is old and dirty.

Always a bundle of Joy coming to first choice. Employees are rude and talk about really weird stuff and never shut up. However had a checker who didn't talk to me except for Hi, Price Total and Have a nice day. Respect Sir!

Never shop here. Apparently you cannot use the customer restroom without asking for a key which is highly irrelevant. Not only this but the bakery is a complete disgrace to baked goods. I have come in there several times to purchase a box of donuts and find out when I get home they are hard as rocks. Including with this also comes several flies in the display of donuts. At one point I purchased a box and found a fly trapped in there. Luckily I had noticed it and informed the employee and just threw the box away and did nothing else. Still flies roam around the bakery section. Also I have noticed that this store has no separate departments, every employee is required to learn every position whether it is produce, checker, baker, or stocker. This owner should not be allowing for this to happen and expect every employee to work every station. I have found several items that have been outdated which means the employees do not check for the outdated items, they just throw new items on the shelf and leave the outdated there. Although the employees are friendly this would not be a highly recommended store.

Anthony, in the deli, made the best pizzas we've ever ordered from there. He was kind and courteous and the pizza was AMAZING! I will always order my pizzas when Anthony is there. Good job dude. You will always have our business. Dakota, the manager, was very helpful, friendly and courteous as well.

Place is alright stuff is iverky priced but u assume that comes with the area. The only other thing that really should be a 0 is the cashiers even though extremely nice have seem to forget what's going on right now and feel as if a mask hasn't became a mandatory edition to our appeal. But this review is for over all. Over all I continue shopping and advise others to do so.

nice clean store friendly staff, my wife and I are from trinidad and decided to shop here instead of our local stores, the friendly counter lady said she couldn't accept my business check for payment because we were from trinidad. I asked why and she said because the store is family owned they don't accept checks from people over 25 miles away even though the check was drawn from a local bank with a branch in walsenburg . ok no problem we paid with card and left. I try to support local business in trinidad, Raton, and walsenburg since my primary business serves these 3 towns. UT I guess safeway will be our choice ofstore in trinidad and walsenburg and super save in raton. too bad because we really enjoyed first choice and was hoping it was a company that supports other local business

I've been shopping here since they first opened. I recently compared the prices of several items I purchased with what I would have spent at Walmart, and I spent about $2.00 less at First Choice, didn't have to spend $15.00 in gas on a trip to Pueblo, and saved 2 hours of travel time. They have a great deli and bakery, and the services they offer make it a convenient one-stop shop - you can send packages via UPS, get your hunting/fishing licenses, rent a U-Haul, and now a laundry/dry cleaning service! Love this store!

Great place to stop and get prepared items if you are going up into the mountains. They also have an area for outdoor recreation if you forgot something. This store caters to tourist. FYI - they don't take Amex.Pizza oven there but it is very greasy (at least ours was)!

I have been shopping here for about a year. I have had multiple problems and never complained. Today was the last time I will set foot in this store. The checkout lines are usually long. You have to be very careful of what you buy, a lot of the stores products are out of date or very close to it. I have made several purchases of things (cheese, yogurt, ect) that I didnt realize were out of date until i got home. The prices have rang up different from the prices on the shelf multiple times. Today, I purchased cheese on the shelf for $1.79 that rang up $2.55 and also a 20 count bag of lays chips $6.79 on the shelf that rang up $8.79. I don't feel like making a scene especially with shoppers behind me waiting to check out. The only thing I have found that attracts me to t his place is the gallons of drinking water are 69 cents each but you end up paying more for it in the end. I will be shopping at Safeway from now on and suggest the same for everyone else.

First choice has a deli and bakery two things that Safeway does not there prices like Safeway have been overinflated 6 doz eggs have gotten out of control 35.00 at first choice 28.. 00 at Safeway and 23. At Walmart if you can find them like Safeway there pastries have increased two fold making it extremely hard to support our local economy forcing us to go to Walmart in Pueblo

Went to buy infants motrin. Only had a $100 dollar bill. Went to the customer service desk to check out with the large denomination. Was told that they didnt have enough cash. Went to the dollar general, sold it to me no issues. The customer service was lacking, and no empathy to the need for infants pain and fever reducer. Need groceries and want to be treated human, go anywhere else in town.

Super disappointed in this small town grocer!I live 25 miles from this store and have been making the trip to spend hundreds of dollars on groceries until now. I purchased discount meat and when I got it home I opened the worst stench a steak can have... no problem I thought, I'll bring it back for an exchange. The manager refused to exchange saying people buy meat, hold onto it until it's bad and try to return it. I can understand their concern but this was the 1st time I've requested customer service and was denied. So I told the manager to go ahead and throw away my $6.50 because I wouldn't even feed what they sold me to my dogs. I will use other grocery stores from here on out.

Love their bakery and pizza place, but more than that, I love Candy (hope I spelled it right). She is an employee who is sweet and caring. Last year, she went above and beyond to ensure that she found the perfect birthday balloon for my special needs son (he LOVES balloons and, due to physical issues, cannot play with mucelse yet). The balloon filing cabinet was messy, but she dug through it for us. Then, she did it again a month later for my daughter's birthday. This year, I went back for more balloons and she had made the section neat and still gave 5-star service! Keep hiring people like her! <3

Standing in line at the deli this morning for 15 minutes before someone comes to help the deli staff and when they do the person in the deli stops in the middle of an order and says ok she is gonna finish up. Then walks around aimlessly while this other person is helping the bakery customer not very good service the lady's who's order was in the middle is standing here looking around as if this must be a joke.

These poor folks need help. Food prices in the general area are HUGE! A nicer store than Safeway but very pricey. Pizza was great! but I got a $5 Large pizza from 7-11 and it would be competitive both taste and price!

I bought a chocolate cake for friends birthday and I was expecting it to just be mediocre...wow was I so wrong. That was one of the best store bought cakes that I have ever had a piece of and the chocolate frosting was absolutely phenomenal. Kudos to the bakery department for a fine cake.

If you're looking to get in an out with what you need this isn't the place to go. I don't know if it's a schedule problem or seasonal. Or maybe they just can't afford to hire more people. Either way good luck on the daily deals an don't expect to get in an out fast. Oh they do carry better quality fresh vegetables then first choice.
