Apparently calling the staff rude is a violation of policy that will get your booking canceled. They get their feelings hurt if you call them rude. Best to not stay here lest you say the wrong thing. The staff (Adam) is rude, saying that is not abusive action, it is a call out. Letting someone know they are being rude is an opportunity to make adjustments.

This over 130 year old hotel is hidden inside the beautiful historic mining town of Victor population slightly over 350 at an elevation of 9500 feet. For years Victor has been my quiet hideaway from the craziness of the front range. I was absolutely elated to see a hotel that fits the personality of Victor. Both the town and hotel are off the beaten path, and definitely not run of the mill with beautiful surroundings. Having spent a night, I fully intend on being back to stay in the other rooms. The simplicity of booking, checking in and out was a perk. The shared bathrooms were clean and frankly was nice to know the history and origins of the building were not completely gutted. I look forward to being back and will highly recommend to anyone who is interested in the strange and odd.

Wow! It was such an amazing experience. Everywhere you go in this Hotle has unique detail, with a great amount of thought and work put in to create something only one would have nightmares about. Despite the horrifying, unique atmosphere, I felt extremely comfortable here and will definitely be visiting again. In addition, the owner made us feel right at home by helping us host our "Under the Sea" themed bday party in his ballroom.

Loved it- the perfect spooky accommodations. Complete with delightfully creaky floors and steps, clever lighting, and unusual decor, this place is perfect for horror fans or anyone who wants a one-of-a-kind experience. Love the easy check-in and homey comforts. I didn't want for a single thing. Check it out if you're looking for a relaxing getaway. Sweet dreams... ;)Rooms: Seriously- great job on the rooms! I loved the tribute to Tesla and the level of thought that obviously went into decorating and furnishing the room.Nearby activities: Cripple Creek and its casinos are only ten minutes away. Hiking trails, scenic views, historic mining sites, and canoeing

This was a unique stay for us, it was off the beaten path. There was only 1 restaurant in town opened. There are renovations happening as they improve the historic building.Rooms were all unique- albeit the walla are quite thin and adjacent room activities can be heard.Great concept boutique hotel experience and I can 💯 say with the owners dedication, the place is going to be mind blowing and worth the out of the way trek.Rooms: All rooms are different and unique.

Are these honest reviews? I've stayed in this hotel with my partner and his mother just one night to pass by for a family reunion and this place was unkept, paper thin walls and a public shared bathroom with everyone else who's sharing the hotel. The idea was cool but not worth the price for a gothic room. The people next to us on the left blasted music and the people on the right had a swinging bed, whiched they used all night smacking the side of the wall. Don't waste your time or money, pick a different place to stay if your looking to get sleep. Also, the town itself is dead. Nothing to see or do.

This hotel is one of the most unique experiences to be had in Colorado. If you have the chance to speak to the owner Adam he's great, an authentic savant without a doubt. The creativity and passion in the room designs makes each one its own little adventure. Our favorite was Jack the Ripper with the bunk beds. The town of Victor has a great small-town charm, and if you're looking for a faster pace, Cripple Creek is 8 minutes away and full of fun little casinos. We are excited to get back when things pick up in the summer.

I had a friend in from out of town and decided to take her up to Victor to experience an authentic Colorado mining town. We decided to stay in The Black Monarch and booked the Jack the Ripper room. The night we checked in it was already dark but there was a big thunderstorm outside. We walked into the dark room with lightning flashing outside....it was a perfect & creepy welcome. The hotel was clean, quiet, and relaxing. My friend had some work to complete both days we were there and said the internet connection was fast and reliable. We also loved the communal dining room where she was able to set up her laptop and work for a couple of hours and drink fresh coffee from the kitchen. The whole stay was such a wonderful and unique experience. We can't wait to go back :)

4 couples were in our group and we stayed at the Black Monarch last weekend during the Cripple Creek Ice Festival. We all had amazing rooms. So hard to pick a favorite. They had a nice kitchen they let us use along with the formal dining room. Everything was clean and sanitary. The beds were like clouds. The owners were also very accomodating.

We live in Colorado Springs and celebrated my daughter’s bday in Victor with family and friends last weekend at the Black Monarch. We were nervous about the ghost stories we had heard! We had so much fun. The rooms were immaculate. They were decorated with quirky items related to the themes of the rooms. I thought sharing bathrooms would b a problem but the toilet and shower areas were separated with doors. There was also a large dressing room area. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils. Although we didn’t use it, there was also a beautiful dining room. Will definitely return with our summer visitors! And, we didn’t see any ghosts during our stay!

My 14yo daughter and I needed the heck out of Oklahoma for a minute so we booked a four day, three night stay at The Black Monarch in the Ripper Room (#7). While the entire room is gorgeous, it was the floating bunk bed that did it for us. After a 12hr drive I appreciated the super simple self check-in process. We parked, got in the hotel, and into our room easily and without issue. I will admit that the shared bathrooms scared me a little bit but while we were exploring the floor, we met the other weekend tenants, any concerns I had dissipated quickly. Even when the hotel is full, you’re still not likely to bump into another guest at the bathrooms…well, a living guest anyhow. 👻The bunk bed is SUPER comfy, the WiFi is excellent, and even though you’ll have too much to explore to be indoors, there are a lot of streaming tv services to enjoy. The kitchen has everything you could need including plates, silverware, and a coffeemaker. If you don’t feel like eating in your room, you can sit at the huge dining room table or go downstairs to Phantom Canyon Coffee for a drink and snack. The owners were available for any questions I had (including the specific paint color of the room 😂) and made me and my daughter feel welcomed. 100% will book again soon!

Awesome stay! Hotel is a total hidden gem. Perfect weekend getaway that is absolutely unique. Owner is super friendly and helped me get a great deal through AirBnb when I called. We stayed in the #7 "Jack The Ripper" room. Definitely had some spooky vibes too! Super comfortable bed and sharing a restroom wasn't that big of a deal either. I can't wait to see this hotel when it is totally completed. Will def be back for another stay!

Rooms are decorated in different styles based on serial killers. Great concept. Issues were cleanliness, when we checked in there was half eaten food in the mini fridge and the room had not been dusted, headboard had dust, pictures on walls had dust, under the sofa there were dust bunnies. It's a very small hotel but the concept is cool. I can't wait till they get the lobby fixed. Lights hanging by extension cord can't be safe for a business but it added to the creepy factor.Rooms: Rooms are decorated in different styles based on serial killers. Great concept. I love the decor! I was a little bummed because I didn’t really experience anything paranormal personally this time around but I definitely love the serial killer theme. It’s very clean, very quiet and the beds are really comfortable. I enjoyed my stay and I can’t wait to see how it turns out when it’s all completed. The town and the people are really friendly. Definitely recommend a trip here for anyone who loves history, paranormal or simply that small mountain town vibe. This place is awesome

We stayed in the “Tesla” room and it was beautifully decorated. The bedding was soft and plush and we slept well. The little details in the room, including the choice of books, were a treat. We did some reading about Nikola Tesla and it turns out he was obsessed with the number 3 at the end of his life, that would be a fun addition to the room. We got the chance to see a few other rooms and were impressed with the themes and decor. Would have loved to see more detail in the bathrooms, they were pretty plain. The gift shop was awesome and we loved the adjoining coffee shop. Staff were kind and entertained our questions about life in Victor. I’m excited to see the renovations continue and will come back to stay when the hotel is complete. Thank you for the hospitality, ladies!

Deep in the forest, steeped in rich history, The Black Monarch is a true gem. Our room was incredibly comfortable and amazingly decorated - along with the kitchen and lobby areas. Victor is a great little town nestled in a beautiful area that allows a city dweller like myself to enjoy peace and quiet. A MUST STAY for anyone intrigued by true history, horror/crime or a great getaway. We stayed in the Elizabeth Bathroy room and it was beautiful with a large comfortable bed and was perfectly clean. The owner is incredibly knowledgeable about the towns history and gave us tons of intriguing information about the hotels past and the history of the town and many buildings in it.Amazing! Can't wait to go back.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Black Monarch Hotel for the second time. This stay was even better than our first! Adam is a great host and very easy to work with. For us, being able to use a full kitchen is great, no need to try and eat out for every meal! We will definitely come back here many more times. It’s a excellent place to get away to and recharge. With the addition of Phantom Canyon Coffee downstairs, it’s our perfect place to escape. Keep up the good work Adam, I can’t wait to check out the two other buildings you are working on!

My girlfriend and I really wanted to love this place as we are very attracted to the weird and unique but unfortunately there was quite a few things that weren't ideal. I would have described the experience as ok vs good but didn't want to disrupt their rating too much. We stayed in the black annis room. The decorations were definitely neat for sure. I really wish it stated when booking there was no ac unless it d is did and I overlooked but I don't think it did. Soooo hot. We had to leave the windows open without screens the whole time and it was still pretty uncomfortable. Our room was right next to the kitchen which was nice and convenient. It didn't seem like a lot of the kitchen plates, utensils etc were really well cleaned. The bathroom cleanliness was not the best either. I knew it was a community situation but no way I was about to shower or take a bath but that's a personal choice. The hanging bed was a cool concept but really made us both pretty motion sick after awhile and had trouble sleeping as it makes a lot of noise too. The owner did send a text there would be a concert right before we got there. We go to a lot of concerts but the noise was blaring and literally shaking the room so not very relaxing at all which was a bummer as after a 3 hour drive we really just wanted to make dinner and chill at first but I'm sure this concert was planned out in advance so not much for us to do there. My biggest complaint was the hotel is very damp feeling or musky in a way which concerns me about mold. I know it's a very old building but we both woke up very congested. Sinus pressure headache, chest congestion, nausea... overall I wouldn't stay again but I would reccomend to someone maybe around Halloween when it's less hot just for the overall vibe experience. Wasn't trying to write anything nasty just wanted to be honest to advise others.

This has to be the coolest hotel ever. The town is a little dead, but who would want to leave this hotel. We stayed in the Jack the ripper room. The room is nicely decorated, I loved the fuzzy everything. The bathroom was nice, and although it's shared it didn't really cause problems. We didn't need assistance at all, so although there really is no service I will rate 5 stars, because it's nice to be left alone as well.

We booked a room here pretty last minute for new years Eve and it was pretty reasonably priced for the holiday. You get what you pay for at this no thrills hotel but it had a comfy king bed, had tv, and was pretty accurate in their descriptions. Only wish their was a little more signage in the entrance, but they do seem to be remodeling the first floor. Would recommend overall!

This place actually traumatized me from ever renting an Airbnb again. I’m a really forgiving person and root endlessly for small businesses, not only was this place dusty to a point where they should probably warn about potential allergens for people who have active respiratory issues and its definitely too unclean to bathe in with a shared bathroom. I’ve stayed in plenty of hostels all around the world and they keep the shared bathrooms much cleaner. I booked the most expensive room and it was a huge disappointment for me and my partner. The owner also likes to threaten people who have the right as an American citizen to free speech who leave any bad/negative reviews. I see your room prices are at an all time low now. Wonder why.

It’s been a minute, since we were there, but plan to come back soon! The Tesla room is beautiful and has great views! The owners have worked hard to make you comfortable and everything was fabulous. Pretty sure Mr Tesla came to visit, as I felt like a hand full of electricity held my head as I was falling asleep. I just laughed and thanked him. Definitely a 5 star piece of history! See you again soon!

My husband and I stayed here first in October of last year. I am a historian and a photographer and I have mad respect for Adam and his team for not only rescuing a piece of history in a crumbling town, but for infusing that piece of history with beautiful decor and intrigue. The group of folks running the Black Monarch are kind and approachable, and quite frankly they are working like dogs trying to rescue dilapidated buildings in Victor like mad architectural superheroes all while offering guests a safe and comfortable experience. About our stay: it snowed the weekend we were there, but we were warm and comfortable! The Tesla room is large, GORGEOUS, and quiet. We have been back to Victor several times, including so many day trips just to explore this little town which we have come to love so much. The town of Victor has the Black Monarch to thank for increased tourism and interest coming to their town! Thank you all for giving us such a great experience! We are customers for life!

Me and my husband got to stay here for our honeymoon after winning a contest! He let us stay in a different room every night so we got to experience more of the hotel. The overall vibe of this place is incredible, I can't really explain how comfortable and welcoming it was! They just did a soft launch on their new coffee & gift shop as well, it was so adorable and well put together. I'm so grateful we were able to experience such a unique place ☺️

This place was amazing and definitely didn't hold out on spooky vibes. We booked the H.H Holmes room for the weekend of my birthday this place gives off the higher class fancy hostel vibe but I didn't mind the shared bathroom and kitchen. The town is a little weird but nothing I didn't expect being a native to Colorado and have seen other small towns. My only recommendation is while you stay at this beautiful hotel also support the local businesses around it as well we had some yummy simple food and great hospitality. The hotel host was very friendly and welcoming and luckily we got to see other rooms besides ours. I can't wait for the other section of the hotel to be finished and open we will be back for sure!
