First off, I would like to tell everyone about the good aspects of the Prospector Motel. The hotel was clean, super clean, the clerk that checked us in was very nice, the beds were the most comfortable I have slept in. My husband and I were so excited to have a clean comfortable room to sleep in after driving from Utah where we had been tent camping for a few days. Now onto the rest of the review. When we arrived at the hotel, there was a gentleman sitting out in the parking lot that said that we had to read the note on the door, but he was pretty sure that we had to go to the gas station to check in. Um… Ok. So we go to the gas station, we talk to a the employees there and check in. For some reason we got charged another $20 at check in, but were never told why, just strangely charged it. We went back to the room to hang out. All sounds good, right?? We got into the room and realized that the main part of our room was blisteringly hot, about 78 degrees according to the thermostat in the room. We made sure the heat was turned off (it was) and we opened the windows in the bathroom and the main room because there is no air conditioning in the rooms. Ok, well that is fine, the check in instructions say that there is always a breeze and to open the windows and enjoy the fresh Colorado air. This was fantastic… Until about 7:00 pm when the apparent residents of the motel returned “home” and proceeded to cook their dinner on the BBQ’s outside our room. In addition to this they yelled and screamed at their kids, each other and smoked (weed and cigarettes) right outside our room. This lovely mixing of smells enhanced the experience of staying at the Prospector Motel until about 11:00 pm. We shut our windows around 9:00 to try to limit the noise and smell wafting into the room. Around 4:00 I woke up drowning in a pool of my own sweat since the room had heated back up to over 78 degrees, and in my sleepless stupor I realized it was actually quiet outside. I immediately opened the window hoping for a breath of fresh air… ahhhh… relief!! This lasted until around 4:20 AM when I heard one of our neighbors shuffling and hacking outside our room, right before lighting up a cigarette… Son of a…. Ok. Well, closing that window back up. My husband and I woke up at 6 and proceeded to leave the hotel immediately.Like I said earlier, the hotel is clean, the beds are super comfortable, if you like sleeping on the surface of the sun, or you want to smell someone’s second hand cigarette and marijuana smoke this is the establishment for you. Personally, I will not stay there again.Fun fact, three of the Motels in Silverton are owned by the same person, so I am not sure if you would get a different experience at any of the lodging establishments there.

Room was clean and recently revamped. However, it was noisy, BBQs were just under our window with people from other rooms/places gathering on front and talking out loud, drinking and smoking till late. It seems the motel rents rooms to long terms/permanent residents who leave there and behave as alone in their home. Breakfast is quite ridiculous, not qualitative, no places to sit and they quickly run out of basics (fruit juice…) So you will probably only get a poor coffee.Consider this place if you just need a shower and a bed for a night. Bring your ear plugs with you if you don’t find any other vacancies elsewhere.Rooms: Clean and recently revampedFood & drinks: Poor breakfast

Owner was extremely friendly. My friend and I were on a motorcycle trip and this place was perfect for what we wanted: a quiet place to relax after a long day of riding. We were able to park our bikes directly in front of our rooms and everything in town is within walking distance. We even met some awesome people just sitting outside our rooms, enjoying a cold one.

No AC wasn't even mentioned when we rented room. It's an old motel and put dated but clean. Floors are real squeaky for some reason. Was fine when your beat from trail riding all day and wanting a shower...You have to rent the room from another hotel down the road... oh a d the satellite was out but the did have a smart TV with wireless so I guess that part was ok too.

We stayed for 3 nights., July 2-5 in Room 8 One King Bed. They have not updated the photos on line but the room has been updated. As a matter of fact I think we were the first to use the room since the updates happened. I wasn't looking forward to staying but was pleasantly surprised at the updates. We could tell the walls were freshly painted, the trim work through out the room was brand new. The bathroom was completely made over. New full shower stall with lots of shelf space, new shower curtain and liner, new curtain rod, new air vent, new towel and toilet paper fixtures, new toilet, new windows, new floor etc. The carpet did not look new. The bathroom sink and counter seemed new. The counter was high for a short 5'2" adult, my husband who is 5'10" was fine. They probably still needed to add a few things that were "missing" in our opinion. The towels are not fancy but did the job. There were no hooks or shelves for hanging clothes or setting up luggage. The desk and chair were not new. There was a TV but it was not hooked up so they charged us a little less because of that. We had to ask for a blow dryer, there wasn't one in the room. The wifi worked just fine. The check-in office is not on the premises. We had to walk down the street to the gas station which is next to another motel property the owner probably owns as well. Not a big deal to take a walk, it was mostly nice each morning and the walk is short but I might not like it if it were cold and really rainy. The breakfast was minimal at best. Fresh fruit, small Yoplait yogurts, canned orange juice, boxes of milk, sometimes there was oatmeal packets, sometimes there was nice whole grain bread, sometimes it was lame raisin bread which could be toasted if you want. There was also prepackaged muffins and pastries, which we did not eat. The bed was fine but the pillows were awful! They were super flat. My husband slept on one pillow, I slept on 2 stacked on top of each other. There was hand soap bars and mini shampoo bottles ready for us. It looks kind of shabby from the outside event hough it may have been freshly painted but it wasn't bad inside, the new improvements helped me like it much better than I thought I would. We were there for the 4th of July celebration and felt kind of smug that we could just walk back to our room and didn't have to sit in traffic to get out of town. Nearly everything is walking distance accessible in Silverton from the Prospector Motel. The rating is generous, I would probably give this 3.5 stars. They were nice, the improvements helped a ton! This is better than most small town motels. I rated it based on expectations. I do think that they had more things to add to the room but ran out of time, that is why we didn't have hooks or hangers and the TV wasn't set up.

Rooms were lovely and warm (it was freezing outside). It looked like the rooms had been recently renovated and were immaculately clean. It did seem a little expensive considering it was the off season and the whole town had shut down for winter. The breakfast could also be improved.

Our room had been newly renovated. Walk-in shower, comfortable beds, beautiful view. Walking distance to all the shops and restaurants. We were very pleased. Wifi was really fast. Price was great too!

Located within easy walking distance to "everything" in town, this is an older building and rooms are just rooms. No a/c so windows are open to cool the room; thus outside noise is unavoidable. Pretty pricey but you are at the mercy of what's available in Silverton. The check in is about 2 blocks away and the young lady behind the desk was super friendly and helpful.

The hotel is right on the main street. Everything is in walking distance. The hotel seems well maintained. Our two queen bed room was spacious with comfy beds. The only problem was a street light shined right into our room and it was bright even with the curtains closed. I would stay again.

We stayed in 7 different motels in one week. We had this room booked for 2 nights. We didn't stay the second night. No AC in the room. The bed was super uncomfortable. Neither one of us got any sleep. They wouldn't refund the 2nd night because we were past the 72 hour mark of canceling. How were we going to know that we didn't like the room 72 hours before getting there? Will NOT be back.

To be honest, the first time I saw the place I thought it kinda looked run down. But the rooms have been remodeled and ours was great, clean, and bright, but it needs a table and a couple of chairs in the room, would definitely stay hear again

$90 after tax for three people in a room with two queen beds. Wi-Fi barely works and the TVs are old but the rooms are big, the showers are hot with good pressure, they have DIRECTV, and the location is decent. There aren't fridges in the rooms and there is no AC, but the staff is very friendly. Check out is 10:30.

Motel was pretty clean but old. Was the last available room in town so I didn't care. Owner at the time was hospitable, friendly and funny. Told us what was interesting to see while in town. Town has a neat wild west atmosphere. No one locks doors on cars ect..

We got in to Idaho City at 5pm. We reached out to the owners but got no answer. We called and messaged through the Air BnB app. We had no way to get into our room. Finally, after midnight we got a code for the room, only because the local bartender knew a woman who was friends with the housekeeper and she gave us the code. Unbelievably, once we got into the room and left again, the door was jammed and we couldn’t reach enter. After 20 minutes of trying we got it opened. So then we had to leave the bedroom window open so we could climb through to get into the room once we left. The whole town, bartenders, locals and even Steve the county commissioner pulled together to help us find a place to sleep or get into our room because the other hotels were sold out. We still have not heard fromthe people who own it through Air Bnb or otherwise ( a local even gave us the owners number). So…doYourself a favor and rent a room at the Gold Mine or Idaho City Hotel. This was a horrible experience and it’s a long way to drive in the mountains and not be able to get into your room. Plus of course, they still charged my card from the online booking.

Quiet, pet friendly, clean, comfortabl, and access to all shoping. Great reception, took us in and settled up in the morning. Coco is awesome and helpful with supplies. My kinda of way of doing things, by first names, and small town courtesy. Our Dogs give them 5 paws.

This place is a little run down and old but our room was clean and the beds were comfortable. Nice location in the heart of silverton. Makes for a great base camp for off roading in the summer.

This is a simple, small motel in a tiny town. The amenities are scarce, but the sheets and towels are clean and the showers are hot. That's all that's needed when you stay the night in Silverton.

Staying at the Prospector is exactly the experience you want when visiting Siverton. Andy could not be a better host and the motel provides all the amenities you could need when visiting an old mining town. Ask Andy about good places to eat, or about his very very brief stint with stardom on the David Letterman show (I can't stress how brief it was). This is the only place I will stay when in Silverton, and I recommend anyone visiting to area to give it a shot.

Andy is a great guy. Stayed there a few times. Fairly priced, clean, awesome water pressure. Rooms have plenty of room to bring gear in to dry out.

Great place to stay in Silverton. It is nothing fancy, but the rooms are big and the price is right. We stayed here in the winter and skied Silverton mountain. Guy running the place is nice and generous with towels!

Run down over priced and dirty. Very noisy hotel can here and feel everything in the adjacent rooms. Not fun. Plumbing kept backing up. Disgusting. Please avoid.

We like it here. It's recently remodeled, it's clean. We had a small issue that was addressed immediately.Rooms: Always clean and comfortable.Nearby activities: There's always something to see within walking distance.
