Awesome experience!! About 2 hours from Denver and totally worth the drive. We stayed for one night, had an amazing steak dinner and enjoyed a delicious breakfast and morning trail ride the next day. There is plenty to do while you enjoy the grounds and lots of cute cats and dogs that love to hang out with you. The staff was wonderful and accommodating, Jeffery and Max were there to make us feel right at home. I was a first time rider and felt really safe with the horses and max’s guidance. Would recommend!

Long drive to get there. Been twice. Place is amazing! Could use some outdoor updates but it's wonderful! Dan and his wife are great! Really feel welcome and at home. The rides...ahh the rides. 1st one boring but expected...need to feel you out as much as you n÷d to get comfortable in a saddle. After that...literal magic. Sights, scenes..lopes if you want. Magic really. It's a disconnect that u need. Dang fires cut my last trip short...but I promise...I will be back!I love this place...and please shut the gait after you drive in...horses everywhere!Safety: They always look out for you!

This place is incredible!!! We just got back from a perfect 4 day trip here for my birthday last weekend. Though we had high expectations, the ranch surpassed all of them. The #1 selling point is the staff here. They make you feel like you are a part of their little family and made it very hard to say goodbye. But we will be back very soon! Jeff was AMAZING and made our trip perfect. Jeff is extremely welcoming, and a pleasure to be around, not to mention all of the above and beyond (a special happy birthday song, extra cookies, rearranging the time of our rides, and amazing stories). From the incredible meals (and very accommodating dietary options if you tell them in advance) to the beautiful horseback rides ( a shoutout for Cole for the amazing rides each morning) there is not much more I could ask for from a trip. We visited in the winter which is their off season, and were pleasantly surprised. My 4 friends had either never ridden a horse or had once when they were young, and Cole gave them the perfect trail rides with enough excitement to keep them entertained, but relaxing enough to feel comfortable. They also did a great job pairing the riders with their horses! Though it is a little bit chillier and you are a bit more limited on activities, the snowy views, jacuzzi, warm rooms, games, and yummy food made it perfect. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! We'll be back very soon!

What an amazing experience we had at Sundance Trail over Christmas. We wanted a non-traditional Christmas for our family this year as we have 3 adult children: 19, 20 & 21, and 2 in the military and 1 out of State College kid at a Regimented School and just wanted to have a Family bonding experience and disconnect from the world since we have not been together as a family in a very long time. The staff was more than accomodating and everything was amazing. We weren't sure what to really expect and just decided to "go with it" and our experience exceeded our expectations. With 2 of us not having ridden in a really long time and one of our kids never ridden before, this was something that we will never forget; probably our BEST CHRISTMAS EVER! The cabin was great, the staff & food just awesome; Thanks to Dan, Ellen, and ALL of the staff for making it happen for us. Our kids want a "new tradition" and aleady asked if we can go back next year, if they can all come home again!

So, I don't give reviews lightly.... I will say that the food, and accommodations were amazing. Every meal, excellent. the Cabin was the perfect size for me, my son and two grandchildren. We have two GSD's, that have never been around horses, and i remember the barn manager, Chloe? , saying "Okay we'll see how they do...." The dogs were fine, and she checked in with our guide to ensure we were good to go.(she had her apprehensions.) the dogs loved the trail rides, and were great. I will say, because apparently that is what is most asked about is the food... Absolutely perfect, with the ring of the triangle. What I think of most, is a son who hasn't ridden a horse, me, who grew up on horses, but haven't ridden in years, and my grandchildren, who, one hasn't ridden, and one who has....The most amazing aspect of the trip, were the staff. PERIOD. Whether it was rock climbing, shooting, or horse back riding... So professional, and helpful, caring and giving. Not sure who does the hiring there, but they have it spot on! Perfect people for the roles they work. They work hard, every day, and seem to love their jobs I appreciate it, and after speaking with them, understand that they do out of love or a calling. Either way, Thank you for a most enjoyable vacation!

Incredible dude ranch experience and we've been to many. Incredible setting in the Rocky Mountains and lots of options for stunning trail rides in the National forest. Amazing staff, food (they made great meals for me as a vegetarian) and wonderful that dogs are welcome. Nice variety of activities with shooting, archery, axe throwing, yoga, square dancing, yoga and more! The owners were a nice welcoming couple that were knowledgeable and thorough but let us enjoy our vacation!

My friends and I had a great stay at Sundance Ranch. The meals that Ellen made were delicious and healthy. The guests that went on the horseback rides had a wonderful time with Matt and Chloe and those that did not ride were still able to enjoy grooming the horses. Zach helped one of my friends to overcome her fear of horses and gave her a one on one lesson for her first time riding. It's those sorts of things that really make a trip memorable!Thank you to all of the Sundance staff that gave us such a great experience!

We spent a weekend at the ranch this March and LOVED it. The staff was incredibly friendly and went out of their way to make sure our whole family had a great time. The food was amazing; get the three meals a day, you won't be disappointed. The location was perfect for time away connecting as a family (even our teenager never once looked for his phone). We will definitely be back!

I have been going to Sundance Trail now for about 18 years. I have gone as a family, with my son, and twice by myself. I realized when I went there alone for the 30th and 31st of 2020, that this place is in my dreams! Literally. As soon as my dog, Romeo and I got out of the car and I headed up to the front porch, something felt familiar. Yes, I have been here many times but not for 7 years and yet I knew that I had been visiting this place in my dreams. Ellen and Dan have created a Master get-away. Once you arrive, you can sigh a breath of relief for it feels like home, and it is a home away from home for sure. The rides are so wonderful; whether you are a novice or an experienced rider. The rooms are amazing, whether you are in the main lodge or in one of their cabins. The hiking is just to die for! And the peace is beyond understanding. Oh, and the food is exquisite. I mostly eat for health and here you don't have to choose; the food is delicious and healthy. I don't eat pork or beef ever and they accommodated me. Their employees are all caring and amazing. I was able to ride on New Year's Day 2021, and my horse Annie with 3 other horses gently led us to a high ridge that looked out across an amazing valley, and I got a picture taken right between Annie's ears. I have always wanted a shot like this and it is amazing. Please give yourself the best gift you could ever give yourself and hightail it on over to The Sundance Trail Guest Ranch in 2021. You will want to go again and again, and then we will see each other in our dreams. Suzanne Carter.I hope to take a small group of women there in the Spring for a retreat. !

We have been calling this ranch our "second home" since 1999, when my 32-year old daughter was 9 years old. What a welcoming, warm, and wonderful place to spend time! Surrounded by beauty and adjacent to Roosevelt National Forest, days are spent in planned activities or at your own whim - horseback riding, hiking, campfire singing, square dancing, sitting on the porch, hot-tubbing, playing pool, rock climbing, target shooting, swimming the horses, or just simply watching the world go by. Family oriented - a safe place for children to wander freely, with comfortable accommodations and many opportunities to hang out as a family or meet new friends. Dan and Ellen are a delight and are dedicated to making your stay unique and special for you; the staff is extremely competent and friendly; and the meals are awesome! Can't recommend this place enough - we will be returning, year after year. We are always counting the days until our next visit!

The staff here are lovely. Took such good care ofmus from start to finish. They ensured my toddler was comfortable and happy, of all guests they made sure my 2 yr old had the most amazing time. Gave her an Easter Egg hunt...even though she was the only little one and went of their way to get her a dehumidifier for her adjusting to the altitude. Staff were so funny and always making us laugh. Great place to visit!! Will be back. Horse riding was with ease as wrangler was very in tune with his job and just the best time.

My daughter and I came to Sundance Trail Guest and Dede Ranch in February of 2022. Making the arrangements over the phone was very easy. The staff graciously took a lot of time to answer all my questions - even walking me through how to dress in layers. They picked us up from the airport with clear communication and stopped so we could grab lunch on the drive to the ranch. My daughter had a ton of questions about horses, and Grace thoughtfully answered each one.Our room, the Eagle, was perfect for our needs. We especially enjoyed the wood burning fireplace. The staff pointed out which way the sun rose, and the sunrises did not disappoint. We enjoyed our trial ride each morning. Grace, John, and Peter were very generous in sharing about the wildlife, National Forest information, the flora and fauna, and points of interest. They gave us an unforgettable experience of hiking and riding. The food was exceptional. We don't eat beef, and this was generously accommodated. We especially enjoyed the cookies, muffins, and tea and hot coco which were always available. Eating with the staff was such a fun experience. They were generous in sharing stories of interest, and in listening to our experiences. We really enjoyed hearing from Dan and Ellen about how they acquired and ran the ranch. My daughter loved playing in the snow each afternoon, and the staff located some sleds for us (and gave us some pointers!). We really enjoyed the game room with pool, shuffleboard, and fooseball.I cannot speak highly enough of the experience we had. My daughter LOVED using the wood burning tool to make her own brand on the wall. I would love to return and bring my entire family to enjoy the beautiful, fun, and exceptional place.

I had the best time ever! Dan and Ellen were so thoughtful and kind. I was there to decompress from working during covid they gave me an outstanding experience to include riding one on one with a wrangler. They were able to accommodate my food preferences. Unfortunately we had one guest who made it extremely difficult for everyone else but Dan and Ellen were able to redirect that individual so we could all enjoy this outstanding ranch. We came as strangers and left as family. We are all coming back next year !!!

Beautiful ranch and very comfortable/cozy cabin. Zach, one of the wranglers, was a highlight of the stay. Took us on amazing trail rides and was awesome company. Kept me and my family entertained and went above and beyond. Thank you Dan, Ellen, and Zach!

We stayed for only one night as that was all we could do time wise (not something other ranches do) but they treated us like we where there longer. The staff was excellent and the two meals we had were very good. Even the owner who made the breakfast did a superb job of cooking! The horse ride in the morning was beautiful and horses well trained but it was not like riding your own horse that just followed the leader, it would go where you wanted! The place was clean and the hot tube was a really nice thing to use after the ride. They let us stay around and enjoy the amenities even after we were technically supposed to leave. We would recommend this place to anyone and would return if we are ever out in CO again. Great place for the cost!

Sundance Trail Guest Ranch met and exceeded our expectations! The place was so beautiful and peaceful, just what we need after a long exhausting year. The staff was so much fun to spend time with, so incredibly accommodating, food was incredible, and we made instant friends with the other guests. We enjoyed every minute of our time there. As we were reminded of our love of country and horses, we came home and added a new member to our family; an American Saddlebred to love and cherish. Next step is getting a farm outside of the city. Thank you for the great vacation, the feeling of family, and reminding us of what are truly the important things in life.Sincerely, Pat and Sue

All the rock formations and Tree’s help make this Ranch Incredibly Beautiful. Such an amazing place to get married or have a Reunion, with Bonus Horseback riding and a 27 hole (soon to be 36 hole) Disc Golf Course on property.. Can’t ask for much they don’t offer, and the staff are all like family with some great vittles served up at every meal…

Sundance Trail Ranch is gem discovered in 2020. The natural environment is classic, beautiful Colorado pine forest, the staff are incredibly welcoming and the cabins are simple and clean base to explore the surrounding National Forest. Hiking here is well worth the effort but the horseback riding is the best I've ever found after 40+ years in Colorado. They way the staff make sure riders understand how horses react to the world and rider signals is exceptional. I can't wait to go back.

We spent the weekend, May 15-17, to finalize plans for our June wedding at the ranch. The food was fantastic! The staff were all overwhelmingly hospitable! The trail rides were in areas with so much natural beauty, more than we had imagined! The hiking in the area is great for all levels! We are so looking forward to our wedding weekend, we know we picked the perfect place!

The staff at Sundance Trail were very accommodating, knowledgeable and courteous. If you have a need just ask someone and it would happen. The food was awesome and if you are a picky eater like me and my daughter all you have to do is ask for something else. The rooms were nice and comfortable, no tv, hardly any cell services which was perfect way to get daughter off the phone. The wranglers took their time with my daughter a gave instruction when needed. We had a wonderful time and will most definitely be back.

This was an absolutely amazing experience. This was a last minute change in plans for us, and what a great one it was!! The staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly if they tried, and it truly felt like visiting family. We felt safe the entire time we were there, with all staff and guests adhering to social distancing and wearing masks when social distancing wasn't possible. As for the activities, what a treat! Horseback riding every day, and there were hikes, yoga, rock climbing, campfires, and more arranged for whomever wanted to participate. It was a really nice, no pressure way to explore the area, and not having to plan it ourselves made it all the more relaxing. And the FOOD. There was so much food, all of it delicious and never was a meal repeated. All in all, this was the perfect family vacation. I cannot reccomend this place enough, we will absolutely be returning in the future.

Peaceful, quite, all around wonderful. It is a great experience for one and all. They have hiking trails for days. They give you that real ranch experience where you can groom and saddle your own horse. Feed the horses walk amongst the horses as they freely roam the property. Highly recommend doing this at least once in your life. The horse trails are amazing! Wranglers made the experience so much fun.

We just returned from Sundance Trail and we can't say enough good things. We had a large group of family celebrating a decennial birthday and everyone from the kids to the newly-minted 70-year old had a fabulous time. The experience exceeded all of our expectations. If you had told me that this 62-year old riding novice would be loping on a horse at the end of the week, I would have said you were off your rocker. But lope we did - a couple of the adult "kids" actually galloped on the last ride. The 5-year old was trotting on her last ride. Dan and Ellen were terrific hosts. Dan's horse and safety lecture was the springboard to us having a really excellent week. I had not been on a horse for over 20 years and had never really had any training. That all changed at Sundance. The staff was top notch and focused on safety and fun all week. The horses were great - we learned so much. We hiked, did rock climbing, white water rafting, watched the hummingbirds, threw hatchets, did target practice with 22s, played pool, jenga and disconnected for a week. In-between all the activities, we ate wonderful meals, took in the amazing scenery and rested up and did it all again. We are already making plans to return. Thank you to everyone at Sundance for becoming a beautiful thread in our tapestry of family memories. It was so very special.

We were at the ranch for a family wedding. It was a warm, relaxed and lovely time. The staff was both proactive and unobtrusive, making the whole event work for everybody. They were considerate of concerns with elderly family members, also very young guests. The food was very good, the rooms comfortable.

My husband and I had a wonderful week at Sundance trails with our three children-5, 8 and 11 years old. The ranch is quiet and serene with plenty of unforgettable activities balanced with enough downtime to take a breath and soak in the views. The food was delicious. But what really made the week special were the staff. The kids wrangler was sick the week we were there but the rest of he staff put in extra effort to accommodate my kids by either bringing them along on a family trail ride (even the five year old!) or allowing them to hang back and make cookies and play games. We just loved every single minute of our time there and hope to return soon!

This charming escape was just the thing we were looking for! The beautiful mountain views are just the beginning. We enjoyed hikes, rock climbing, square dancing, camp fire songs, wonderful food, the horses (of course), and the wonderful hosts! Dan and Ellen are authentic and engaging; they offer their home and open their arms. The real cowboys and cowgirls hired to ensure the details are in place, make the experience genuine and adventurous. The people are truly what makes this place special! Our teenagers are begging to visit again, and we will, ...with more family along for the fun.
