This was our first camping trip in our camper and it was a great experience! We stayed in a pull thru which was pretty level all ready and had great amenities. They had a couple different bathroom locations and nice showers as well. they had horse shoes and a nice creek and beautiful grass meadow to run, play or just take a relaxing walk. We will definitely be back! I just wish it was near hiking trails....you have to drive to get to hiking areas.

We love Chalk Creek!! We didn't stay in a room so i can't give the rooms a rating, we have a trailer. The space was big and well kept, water and electric hook up and a picnic table at the spot. The bathrooms were the nicest we have ever seen at a campground!! There is also an area for tents that was really nice and on the water, it was beautiful! There staff was amazing!! Very nice people and very helpful. We will definitely be returning for another adventure!

I absolutely love this campground. The staff is not only friendly but they are also efficient and run a very nice campground. The facilities were immaculate. They offer delivery of firewood to your site. They genuinely seem to care about the customer service experience. Although the upper camp ground is a little bland, the lower one is top notch!! My only negative would be that the ancient slide is very high and terrifying for little kids. With that being said, the kids didn’t know that and enjoyed the heck out of it. Absolutely deserve 5 stars!!!

The people here are absolutely rude, we had issues with them from the start of check in. Then (Joyce) was absolutely crazy yelling and being the absolute most hateful person I have run into in some time. The way that she talked to CHILDREN was absolutely uncalled for. If you treat adults like garbage that’s one thing but a child that’s absolutely uncalled for. We were in the wrong by being out past their 10pm quiet time however the way she approached us about it could have been in a much better manner. There was also another camp spot out at the same time. (Joyce) if that was even a real name she gave us came up and said that they had to ASSUME it was us that was making the noise and so we asked if the other people outside were also going to be told something but they avoid that conversation because the other people were friends of theirs as the employees had been down there with the other group that was out throughout the day. Then when we started asking her questions she turned completely psycho on us avoiding any questions that were asked. The next day Meghan came down and when we were trying to explain from our point of view she said we were exaggerating even though she was not there. The male that was with her was very rude as well as he was down with Joyce the night before but sat in their golf cart. When he came down with Meghan he was also absolutely rude and would not let us talk. We take around 7 camping trips a year at different parks and this is my far the worst place I have ever stayed at. So be sure if you want to stay here you do not have any children with you and laughing past 10pm is definitely a problem.

This campground is absolutely AMAZING!!! You will be taken care of, have amazing fun things to do, and get the absolute pleasure of seeing all of the people who work here! They are amazing and put so much work into this location that it feels like home! Thank you everyone who works here for the great work that you do and I am so blessed to call Chalk Creek my home away from home. Please stop by if you need an amazing place to stay for a really amazing rate!

Friendly and accommodating staff! This is camping “enmass” . $43 bucks a night got us a fire pit, Picnic table , patch of grass, Highway noise and a parking place. I can live with that but since you’re jammed in it is necessary to enforce quiet hours which the “rules that are stringently adhered to” state are after 10pm. Seems reasonable. However, the reality is that people are shouting and carrying on till the wee hours of the morning. The campground monitors in the golf cart disappear promptly at 930 pm. So if you’re hoping the monitor is going to confront your camping neighbor to keep their voices down after 10pm you’re outta luck (apparently there’s an after hours number to call for issues, missed that part). All in all it’s typical field camping with a nice stream you can tube in, not much to complain about BUT for the price I expect there to be enforcement of the quiet hours. All other rules imposed appears to be particularly adhered to. I did make a complaint regarding this and staff was pleasant and responsive and assured me they would give a stiff talking to the offenders😡🙄.

We enjoyed our stay at Chalk Creek Campground and will continue to stay at this campground when visiting the area. The facilities and grounds are always clean and well maintained. The staff are welcoming, friendly, and accomodating. They do get busy on holiday weekends, however, it is lovely observing families making memories and children playing and having the time of their lives. The bingo and duck races are popular activities that campers really enjoy, making this a wonderful family destination. It's located within minutes of activities such as rafting, horseback riding, hot springs, swimming, old time drive-in movie theater and convenient supply/shopping options. The nightly rates (even for large groups) are very reasonable for this area. I give Chalk Creek 5 stars.

If you like camping in the middle of a crowded parking lot then this is the place for you! The sites are tiny, 10-15 feet between picnic tables. We could hear our neighbors’ entire conversation when they weren’t even being loud. We were in site 16 so our views were that of the porta potties on one side and the tent camping parking area on the other. Speaking of porta potties… they put them right in the middle of the one creek access area and the smell was overwhelming. The other option for bathrooms for the lower campground was a makeshift outhouse situation. Should definitely be nicer when spending $200/3 nights. The bathhouse in the upper area was clean enough but they charge quarters for the showers and the “soap” provided is just water in the dispenser. The upper area was definitely more quiet and spacious but it also doubles as a storage lot/ junk yard. Do yourself a favor and find a nice boondocking spot. We paid for 3 nights but only stayed for 1.

They tried to charge my group 86 dollars for one night of tent camping, not on the creek or near it at all. I understand we had extra vehicles, but close to 100$ for a campsite less than 10 feet away for the ones next to it, it's high way robbery. Especially when all those campsites are filled with screaming children. I had to pass. If you've never gone camping before, this might seem nice, but there are tons of far better campgrounds around FOR FREE OR UNDER 30$ A NIGHT within 30 minutes. In the end, I'd call this a scammy tourist trap.

I accidentally reserved 2 nights at this campground, mistaking it with a smaller more secluded campground with a similar name. This campground did not disappoint. They have spaces for all sized campers and motor homes. Check in was super easy and everyone was friendly. They have a small store inside. Bathrooms were cleaned regularly. Located close to lots of things for the outdoor enthusiasts! It’s about 10 minutes to the town of Buena Vista. There’s a small park in the campground for the kiddos and a large open field for games. Plenty of trees and shade as well. Would definitely return in the future with the family.

We came here to dump and fill up water, we were told we could dump but not fill up but could dump for $20 which was fine. We saw people filling up water so we asked a man with white and a white beard and he said they are staying here. So we drove on to dump our RV. The same man came over while we were dumping just to ask if we were rinsing out our black tank and not filling up our fresh water tank. I don’t steal so I don’t like being accused of it. I thought that was extremely unprofessional. If you tell me I can’t fill up with water than I won’t. He also kept driving by to make sure. You guys really should give an option to fill up if you’re not staying there even for an up charge instead of telling people they can drive 7 mile back the other way.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Clean grounds, bathhouse, etc. Lower campground is busy but right on Chalk Creek. Upper campground has beautiful views of the mountains. Great location - about halfway between Buena Vista and Salida; close to hiking, multiple rivers and lakes and hot springs; just a short drive to St Elmo, Independence Pass, and Leadville.

Should of known from the minute we where checking in the lady at counter was rude when asking a question!!! Second we were sitting in one of are spots in lower level in the evening with approximately 10 of us having a good time enjoying are selfs then the the lady in golf cart came and and was again rude and argumentative said she had complaint about us being loud. Instead of being professional and talking starting demanding we basically go to bed and said we where being kicked out after she talks to the owner. So in the morning here comes the owner to tell us to leave. Did not want to listen to anything but what she decided what the Golf Cart Patrol Lady (Joyce) had told her. Did not want to hear how rude she was and with Vulgar Language and the F Word. When she could have said we had a complaint could you please be quiet and hold down and we would have been respectful of her asking us to be quite!!!! But she had to totally go into PHYSCO MODE!!!!! With all that said please be very quite when you visit this campground and make sure you do not ask any questions!!!

First I want to say, this could be the best place ever, if a few changes are made. We asked for a creekside spot and was told the spot we got (31) was the best. It was pretty close to the creek, but it was also right next to the hwy, so we got to hear traffic all day and night. Was told they were booked solid, but there was never anyone on one side of us, and one night's on the other side. Had a few people pull into the spot next us and in about 5 min they pulled out and got a different spot. How could they have moved if they were booked solid? There were awesome spots that are for creek access only, wasted spots, our teardrop camper would have fit perfectly in. The campgrounds are awesome, super clean facilities, but the noise of the hwy negated the positives of this campgrounds. The owner needs to check out about having the state put a wall up for safety reasons, if a car or truck ever comes off the hwy the sites that are right there are dead.

We had a great time camping over 4th of July weekend. Very charming campground. We were in the upper campground, which was very quiet and had all the amenities and hook ups you need. We did visit the lower campground so the kids could splash in the creek as well. The lower campground is like a whole different campground. The energy was popping, lots of people and tents, seems like it would be fun to stay in the lower campground even though only electric down there. Their policies are all very standard and quiet time at 10 am was taken very seriously in the upper campground. We did our best to keep the noise to a minimum since it was so very quiet in the upper campground. Maybe next time we will stay in the lower and be with some more Fiesty neighbors. Thank you for a very fun weekend!

This is a very clean and quiet place to stay. We were in #28 by the creek and the spot was so level we didn't have to adjust with our slide in camper. Just backed in our truck, set up our chairs and enjoyed the sounds of the creek. They had a picnic table and fire pit clean and ready to go (take your own wood)We had electric in the spot and an offer to fill up and dump in another area. (Other spots were full hook ups)We will plan to be back and stay more than one night.

Great private campground about 10 mins for Buena Vista. Kids had fun exploring the campground, looking for hiding rainbow rocks, and playing at the little park when we were hanging around. Port a potties were really clean and we liked having access to dishwashing station. Staff at the office/convenience store were so nice.

I didn't stay here, the park was full. I did however pick the attendant's mind. She helped me find potable water and couldn't have been more friendly and helpful.

I was not going to leave a review but after phone call today with camp ground manager Gabe, I would leave negative 10 if an option. We stayed two nights last week. We were told when making the reservation we could check in after 11 am. Showed up just before 11am and lady in the office said $5/hr early check in charge before 1pm. I said "What"!? She said it is stated in the confirmation email and on their website. It is not. We checked in thinking they would just waive it since we had not been informed. We could have stayed an extra 2 hours at previous night's camp ground had we known. Besides, she even told me our site 13A was ready and available. When we got home I noticed an extra unauthorized charge on our CC bill. I called to talk to owner and was refered to manager Gabe. He listened to my complaint of the extra charges and that he would not credit us back. I said your stated policy is not written and would like to speak to owner. He said "No, and that next time you will know to stay at previous camp ground an extra 2 hours". Then he hung up on me. Very unprofessional. I could not believe it. I was not a bit rude to him. We have stayed there before. I am assuming with different management. Our site was in upper level basically a parking lot with hookups. It worked for us. Unless owner reaches out to me I will highly not recommend Chalk Creek. Hopefully the poor customer service is just with the manager.

My wife and I tent camped there for two nights and had a fantastic time. The staff could not have been anymore helpful. We were in tent site T7 which was almost completely shaded. Even though we were not on a creek site we could hear the beautiful sound of the creek as we drifted off to sleep in our tent. The shower/bathroom facilities were clean. Showers are 50 cents for 3 minutes with great water pressure. There are 3 shower stalls in each of the men's and women's rest rooms. There is also an electrical outlet which my wife enjoyed very much using her hair dryer. We also did a load of laundry in the emaculate laundry room. The only slight negative is the road noise from route 24 that is near the property. Great location...we did some hiking in Buena Vista at Barbara Whipple Trail, waded in the Arkansas River and also enjoyed hot springs at Cotton Wood Hot Springs. Buena Vista is a beautiful little town only about 7 miles north.

I stayed here 2x so far. Once on my way to Gunnison and stayed comfortably in my van. The creeknside sites are perfect and check in was easy. I stayed again last night, when said van broke down in Montrose requiring me to get a rental car to get back to Denver. I called desperate for a site and not only were they super helpful, and understanding but they were so kind. They booked me into a creeknside tent site and made sure I'd have everything I needed at check in. In fact, they left a bag of m&m with my after hours checkin packet. They went above an beyond and that small touch made my horrible day just the slightest bit better!

What a great place! We only spent 1 night but it was right on the water and very tranquil. The creek was only about a foot or less deep, perfect for my 2 yr old. There is a playground that has a very tall slide and a few swings and one of those volley balls attached to the poll, i cant remember what thats called. The people were so nice too!
