I walked into REI Lakewood today and was greeted with the best customer service I've ever experienced from the Bike department! David was knowledgeable, kind, and got me back in the bike lane with a bike that actually fit my height! I'm so grateful for David's experience and customer care! Thanks again!

Cashier experience not great. I was informed that households must set up individual memberships for every person. Cosco allows 2 people on their membership. Not REI. Store customer service nice. Mixed overall experience.

The level of customer service at this location is LEAGUES above the other stores in the metro area. Sure their stock might be lower, but they are so helpful and will ensure that you get what you need. Last night I needed help with my roof box installation and Don and Eric took the time to help me figure out which pieces I needed, helped me to find the pieces, called other stores and waited on long holds, and also found me a deal in the Garage Sale. I highly recommend this store and these employees to anyone who shops at REI!

Hi if you own shoes you should probably change them. Go try on some altras at REÍ. They got other great stuff too but wide toe boxes, zero drop heels and no upturned toe is SUPER important. Please go get better shoes. Also they have camping stuff. That’s pretty sweet. Don’t skip the membership. My buddy worked for REÍ during the pandemic. They totally took care of him. So in summation, get better shoes, get outdoors, and support the coop baby!

This is the first time I've ever been to REI in my life, I was hopeful that the shoes I was looking for would probably be easiest found at REI. The lady who helped me in the shoe department was really helpful and helped me find exactly what I was looking for. I didn't get her name. She told me about the membership program, so I knew that I'd be asked about it when I got to the register.I believe it was Sean? that checked me out. When he asked me about the membership, I felt like he was kinda pushy about it, and even though I understood that there were benefits, I couldn't afford it. I may also not benefit from it because I wouldn't need to be there again for another year + when these shoes wear out.I'm probably not REI's ideal customer because I don't have a lot of money to spend on their expensive items, I just felt really uncomfortable that I couldn't just say no thank you to it and that I had to tell him that I ONLY had so much money to spend. I had to choke back my feelings and restrain from crying at the fact that I had to actually announce that "I only have this much money to spend." It was embarrassing.I found a second pair of shoes on clearance, and he suggested that if I didn't have any money, I only buy the clearance shoes. That was a huge judgemental slap in the face as if I was being told that all I could afford was clearance items.I had money. I had enough money to pay for the thing I came in for, not more.When I paid, the screen asked me what type of receipt I wanted, but before I could push "email," he had already closed the transaction and handed me a paper receipt. Now, if I lose the paper one, I have no way to return these shoes if I can't get my feet happy in them. Since I didn't get a membership, my phone number isn't attached to the purchase either.5 stars for the shoe lady, 1 star for the register experience. 3 stars overall.

I've been an REI member for years and after moving, this is now the closest store to our home. The in-store selection and customer service at this location can be hit or miss. But when it hits, it hits. Just came to leave a review to say that Erika is GREAT! Shoes are one of the few gear pieces that I never purchase online or from the outlet and Erika was super helpful in finding me a new pair of runners that are phenomenal and a great fit.

I came to get my skis inspected at the shop, and Travis went above and beyond giving me feedback, tips, and tricks for maintaining them. I walked away with way more insights than I expected and had all of my questions answered while being pointed to repair products that were worthwhile. Travis steered me clear of others not relevant for me. I appreciate that the dialogue came from a perspective of education and not salesmanship.Oh yeah, and the store is what you expect from REI being a clean shop with a wide range of options!

I purchased a Garmin Fenix 6x Sapphire sports watch here for $800 two years ago and it completely died last week. I came into REI today and was ready to spend another $800 on a new watch. I asked the manager if he would be willing to take $50 off since the previous watch that I purchased there died. I had the receipt from two years ago with me, as well as the receipt being on my REI account. He said no without an explanation. So I went to another retailer to purchase the watch. I’ve been very unhappy with REI the a few times this year with really bad customer service and now this.

I went to try on a jacket, but all of the puffy jackets were locked to the wall without a mirror nearby. Many of them were locked to 4-5 other jackets so they were impossible to try on. I had to find an employee to follow me around and unlock all the jackets I wanted to try, then he had to watch me try them on. It was super awkward and instead of actually trying on and figuring out which jacket I wanted, all I could think about was how uncomfortable I was, so I didn’t even want to buy something. There are SO many ways that this could be improved. For one thing, having a mirror where all the jackets are tethered could allow you to try them on in your own time without having an employee watch you. Until then I guess I will go elsewhere.

Just a reminder to dog owners, they don’t allow pet dogs anymore even though they sell ruff wear, no signs on the door, and confusing answer if you google it.Worth to mention that a guy right after we left the store walked with his dog in the store with no issue, the dog is pulling not a service dog.

Usually find what I’m looking for here. But it’s always hit or miss with some of the staff. Today I stopped in to grab some gloves and look around for some other potential gifts. Had some rent a cop following me around being pretty aggressive about it. Made me uncomfortable and unwelcome.

Love REI and this one specifically is great. The service has always been on point, and you can tell everyone is passionate about their hobbies, making their work fun too. I started a membership a few weeks ago, got $30 coupon that was to activate at midnight (tight), then went back again later that day and they honored the money off I received as a gift for signing up even though it wasn’t but 2 hours later 😅 retail service is great and this REI location is killin it.

I have such mixed feelings about this place. Some of their salespeople are very kind and knowledgeable. Others are knowledgeable but condescending. And some are just bad at their job, period. Same with the cashiers. The good experiences don't outweigh the bad. I don't want to come back to this store. I always leave feeling super uncomfortable.

Very poor REI store. Rude, unprofessional employees and incompetent managers make this a place to avoid. Limited selection of merchandise is a major negative too. REI is really going downhill.

This store is AMAZING! Steve in shoes is extremely knowledgeable, kind and friendly. I appreciate his passion for the company and to make sure the customer gets what they are looking for. The manager on duty was also, terrific. I have never shopped at REI, I am a believer now, I will be a loyal customer.

I have recently had a couple issues with the bike shop on a tune up that didn’t go great. Took bike back in, still not great and had even more issues with the bike after the work was done. I let the management know the issues and Matt the bike shop manager went out of his way to make us happy. I have read thru the reviews and had similar experiences but I love the store and the staff is amazing in my opinion. Thanks Matt and thanks REI for making things right. See you all soon.

I really enjoy shopping here. I have purchased both mountain and road bikes from here in the past. I also have REI service them as well. I really like how you get reward money for shopping there. This really helps out with add on items.

I’ve dug REI based on the co-op piece and generally have had great experiences. Couldn’t agree more with some of the reviews — it’s like the folks working here are too cool for school. Had an experience tonight where the guy was not only condescending but it was a burden to answer. Luckily we’ve got mom and pops to support as an alternative ☀️

Their bike mechanic service is absolutely horrendous. I got my bike tuned up there and got the full package. For $200 I would expect a great difference in my gearshifting and everything else. I rode my bike twice and my shifting and my suspension have many problems now after rei tuned it up. Everything is worse than it was then when I dropped it off. never ever get your bike to tuned up here you’re better off. Going to local bike shop and if your local bike shop is this, place find a different one.

After Waiting 10 minutes for someone to help me in the ski/bike Department they told I needed both ski boots to mount my bindings.I only brought one in. I Informed the gentleman working in the ski department that knew nothing about skis that this is absolutely not true the left and right Ski boot have the same base but I understand they are a corporation and have to follow their policies. unfortunately I drove 45 minutes down to the REI to turn around and take my skis home. I broke my own rule of trying to deal with local shops not box stores as much as possible. I did by the skis from REI because it was a amazing deal.

The lady in the shoe dept was a bit condescending. I needed a rugged waterproof shoe and she tried to outline why I don’t really want a waterproof shoe. I think I know what’s best for my needs and what my work/travels require.The absolutely most obnoxious about my visit was I had to say no to her and the cashier like 10 times each to their co-op program. I’m not interested in ever coming back much less becoming a member. NO MEANS NO and I shouldn’t have to repeat myself even once.2 stars because I found some decent shoes on the sale rack.
