We had an incredible time on our fly fishing float trip with Gunnison River Fly Shop! From the moment we arrived, our guide Jared went above and beyond to ensure our adventure was nothing short of extraordinary. He had multiple rods set up, allowing us to try our hand at various fishing techniques. Whether we wanted to dry fly, streamer fish, or nymph, Jared had it all and was willing to help the entire trip! We were also able to meet the owner, David, at the shop— he was awesome and very helpful! They catered to our preferences and ensured that we had a well-rounded experience. I highly recommend them for any fly fishing trip in the Gunnison area! Thank you David and Jared!!

We wandered into the shop after we booked a trip and Dave and Odin greeted us and we chatted for a bit. Then we had a guide the next day on the Gunnison with Chris, he was AWESOME! He fit our style and personality so well! We slayed it all morning and had so much fun! Could not recommend this shop more!

Philip and Jared are both excellent choices as guides. Both were super nice, have great attitudes, comfortable drift boats and were knowledgeable about the upper Gunnison river. Both will work hard to make your day on the water a good one, whether you are a novice or more experienced angler. They can just row the boat or nerd out with you and turn rocks over and talk about insect life on the Gunnison. Definitely recommend both guides!

I can't say enough good things about the crew at the Gunnison River Fly Shop! We recently had David, John, and Ralph come teach a Ladies Fly Casting Class for the Gunnison Valley Women's Network. They were absolutely wonderful! We had everyone from very beginners (first time holding a fly rod) to ladies who had their own rods and were looking to improve their casting skills. Everyone went home feeling more confident and had a really great time!

I do a fly fishing trip with 5 friends most years. We were looking for the best experience we could get for the money in Gunnison and Gunnison Fly shop kept coming up. We went with a full day guided trip. It was far and away the best trip we have done. We met at the shop and met Bryan and John and they asked about what the goals were for the day with our varying level of experience. Because they are so good at what they do, they were able to adjust to each of us. And the location we fished at is the kind of place they make postcards out of . It was absolutely stunning. Gunnison Fly Shop made our whole trip and I can’t recommend them highly enough. Ask for Bryan and John.

Owner and staff are so friendly and knowledgeable. They will take time and go out of their way for any of your questions/concerns. Special thanks to guide Phillip. My husband has taken numerous float trips, in and out of the country. He believes Phillip was one of the best guides he's encountered. We floated with Phillip three days. He was energetic, extremely knowledgeable, fun and very patient with my less than expert skills. Thank you all for a memorable Colorado trip.

We came in looking for spots to take our kids fly fishing, the persons we talked to (I assume the owner) was super helpful and nice! He went out of his way to help us and we weren’t there to purchase anything. I did end up buying something because he was very helpful. Also, a really cool thing is they give away stickers! Super cool of them. I will definitely give them my business in the future when we come back through again.

Great fly shop right downtown Gunnison! Good selection and handful of neat, unique items branded to the store. Was really tempted by a few of them. The owner was friendly and knowledgeable and they worked with the schedule to find a guided trip. We got on some beautiful water, had a gorgeous day, and even landed a pretty good size Rainbow for me / for Colorado. Learned a few new techniques too!

This shop seems to have the most knowledgeable guides, on top of the NICEST employees. Other shops in the area might answer your fly fishing questions with a bit of non-interest mixed with pretentiousness but there’s none of that here, only a willingness to help new learners and an outpouring of expertise and informative local tips that is unrivaled in quality.

In my experience traveling to fly shops, more times then not they are very snooty and rude. My dad and I were nervous to go in just because of past fly shops and we have gone back twice just in the one day we’ve been here! Dave is awesome and very professional! If you’re going to fish the Taylor or Gunny go talk to him! Endless knowledge!

He is very professional, fun, and knows how to help us catch fish. My personal record fish gets bigger every year! We are headed back to Gunnison Fly Shop this summer for another great trip. I would like to take a moment and express to Oscar Marks how much I enjoyed my guided float trip down the Gunnison River. He helped me to learn to handle my fishing as I was new to float fishing. He gave me some great new techniques to use as we fished along with the proper choice of flies for the different times of the day. The fishing was great and our conversations were not only instructional but also enjoyable all day long. His patience and teaching techniques allowed me to understand what I could do better and he never tired of coaching me! Of all the guides I have fished with over many years I would recommend Oscar to anyone--new or experienced--he has something to offer every angler. He kept me in the perfect position to maximize my chances at catching rainbows and browns all day! I have been coming to Gunnison at least once a year since 2014. I really enjoy the area and have tried multiple locations: East River, Spring Creek, Taylor, and the Gunnison. This year I decided to hire a guide. What a game changer! It was a huge benefit to get a local guy who knows the waters around here to show me some areas you can’t see from a casual look from a pull-off. Also, some new areas I’ve never explored before. My guide for the day was Gavin. Don’t let the fact that he’s from “New York City!” fool you. He’s a great guy to spend the day fishing with and is an expert on the local waters. Even though I’m pretty seasoned fly fisherman myself, he gave me a lot of good pointers and some new techniques that I’m excited to get out and practice.

I went on a guided trip last year and it was a blast. Top notch service with experienced guides. I have never fly fished prior and I caught around 6 fish. I should have gotten more, but missed about 10. I lost a lot of fly's, but the guide happily replaced them each time. If your looking for a guided trip or some gear definitely check this place out. I hope to make it back this summer!

I fished today with a guide named Dane that is probably the best guide I've ever fished with. Was one of the most knowledgeable and professional guides I've ever fished with. BUT there was some dude running the shop named Rob that couldn't even answer the most basic questions. I don't think he even fished. My niece knows more about fishing than this guy. That being said go fish with Dane and ignore Rob.

Bad experience! FIND ANOTHER FLY SHOPPurchased a fly rod and when I got back to cabin I put it together( reel, ran my flyline up eyelets, leader, and tied my caddis fly) and was placing my fly on cork handle. When I did this..6 inches of my rod tip just broke(Defect). I brought it back to Gunnison Fly shop within an hour..The guy that was working said he needed to talk to owner(Robert). Early next morning I came back to resolve issue. Owner (Robert) told morning employee that basically I was screwed because I left fly shop and it was my problem. Spent $240 in Robert's fly fishing shop. He never called me nor spoke to me when I left message. THEIR ARE LOTS OF OTHER FLY SHOPS! GO TO ONE THAT APPRECIATES YOUR BUSINESS. PATHETIC!

Took two weeks to get in contact with the shop had good experiences previously however this time when I signed up for a full day float the day before I was supposed to go I was called and told they had a “mix” up and I would get a refund didn’t even give me enough time to plan another trip terrible customer service will not be going back and would not recommend.

I always stop in when in the area, helpful staff that will give very good advice on fly fishing the local rivers. They also carry anything you mite need for fly fishing, and offer guided trips.
