Still the best place to share, support, and find treasure you need or didn't know you wanted! Specific hours for donations. Closes at 5pm. Affordable and always changing merchandise.

Very disappointed on how I was treated when I was trying to do the right thing and go through the right process and being very transparent with the situation with a dog I had the chance to rescue. I hate to give this rating because I was able to adopt my very sweet girl Shaylee back in November from you guys and for that I am grateful. Please work on your professional communication.

They do such an amazing job here and all the staff I've interacted with have been so nice and easy to work with. I even forgot my wallet and they let me call to pay later.

Such a wonderful group of people. They were short staffed the day I came but we're still very friendly and helpful. One of the ladies recommended a couple of kittens that might fit well with my family and I ended up leaving with a senior cat and one of those kittens. The senior cat had a bit of an infection and they gave me everything I needed to fix her up. I even met the person who had fostered the kitten until she was old enough to be put up for adoption. These people genuinely care about the animals and made adoption an easy process. Both cats are quite happy and my dog and new kitten are literally attached at the hip. Thank you for all your help!!

This was the rudest humane society that I’ve ever been to. Immediately upon walking in the people at the front seemed MAD they had people there looking to adopt. The employees made us feel like we were burdens by trying to adopt.I’ve adopted 2 cats and 2 dogs. So I know the adoption process. They just didn’t want to serve us.

I’d like to give a big shout out to the Durango Humane Society for being so gracious in accommodating me with temporary housing for my fur baby DeOgie. I appreciate Colleen and the nurse for going above and beyond with the care they gave to DeOgie. Thanks to Gary and the rest of the staff for making me feel so comfortable in the decision to leave DeOgie in your care. Thumbs up to the La Plata County Humane Society.Sincerely,Desiree and DeOgie

I am honestly surprised they have so many reviews that are so positive. They gave us a sick puppy and it was a constant battle to try to get her better at first they didn’t believe me it was frustrating. We ended up giving her back because we think that she deserves a loving home with people who can focus on her completely. May be the reason why we had her was so she could get better. They helped then they refused to help during certain points where police were called. Then they helped get her better again.Maybe they would’ve never noticed that she was sick at all and maybe she could’ve died I don’t know. I think everything happens for a reason and she was a good puppy . But honestly, I’m not a fan of that place. Nor am I a fan of how people are in Durango Colorado. Nobody is better than anyone else we’re all the same we all bleed the same and we are all human. Durango as a whole needs to start treating each other as such.

After my dog escaped from apartment she was fond and brought here. I was berated and harassed by the staff as soon as I entered the first time. Due to my college schedule and the poor support from the employees I was not able to pick up my dog before my final. I informed the employee that I would beck right after my final to pick up my dog and finish the paper work. When I came aback they Informed me that they though I would not return and had vaccinated my dog. she had already received vaccines. I was charged for extra services do to the poor communication of the staff. I paid the full amount just so I could leave this horrible experience.

Chris Nelson and the kind folks at the Humane Society are amazingly professional. Today my brother and I did the hard thing with our beloved old dog. The staff was kind, professional, and understanding. I highly recommend supporting this charity financially as much and as often as you can. The animals and people of the county benefit greatly from their presence. We loved our big brown dog. When we are ready for another we will come here. Thank you again Chris and all the staff.

They are so rude and demanding on your animal that the owner can't even have a say about their animals.i don't even give them a star.for what they took my dog away. you know how to ruin someones animals .you don't even know what you all did to me on ever wanting another friend (dog, horse, mule, cat ),or even a human friend. No star's there .I wish Norma Rowe was there as top Boss she wouldn't have rude people like that working there

Great place, with a great mission! All staff were friendly, and professional. The application process is easy, they called us soon after applying, and made an appointment to visit with the dogs to find the right one for our family. We were able to take a young dog home today, he doesn't know it yet but he won the doggy lotto, but so did we.

The staff is helpful and nice when we first went there and adopted a dog. But, everyone was so busy running in and out, we had to stop somebody just to ask about a dog. And then there's the long wait just to see the animal. For everyone's information! Once you return a dog there for any reasons, even if it's for the dogs own safety, you are pretty much stuck on their, "do not adopt too" blacklist. The shelter supervisor basically told us, no, we will not be able to adopt there anymore because we returned a dog. I'm hoping this goes for everyone!! And not just because we are Native Americans, which I am hoping was not the issue!

Staff was extremely rude and unpleasant.I received a call back about an animal I was looking at for possible adoption, the lady was very short and snappy and said "...First of all someone already adopted her and second of all you have TOO many animals so we will not be adopting any animals out to you!...." She REALLY could have handled that much more professionally. There was no reason for her to have an attitude with me at all, she could have just apologized and let me know the animal already found a home. I do have a few animals, but I also have fertility challenges, so I care for my pets like they are my children. Therefore I do not appreciate the insinuation on her end that I already have enough animals and couldn't care for another.

Staffed by wonderful, kind people that go above and beyond not just to take care of animals but also to welcome members of the community. They have provided hundreds of hours of volunteer experience for my students with special needs. They also provided great, sympathetic care when my 20 year old cat was at the end of his life. I'm so thankful to have this place in our community.

Really odd policy that if you want to take a dog out and pet it/ get to know it you have to fill out an entire adoption form which takes 20 or so minutes and they'll get back to you in a few (days or weeks not sure)after checking all your info. I found a dog a really liked and wanted to get to know him or at least pet him and see his temperament, the filling out the form was annoying and time consuming but the attitude from the lady working at the front counter made it so unpleasant I lost interest in wanting to come back and look at the dog. She was cold and rude when we were asking questions at the front desk like we were bothering her just by being there, I handed the form to her and we walked out, a few minutes later she came chasing after use and began loudly repeating my address and personal information in front of a bunch of strangers outside with a level of hostility in her voice like she was interagating me.She made me and my friend so uncomfortable we just left,.

Stop in the thrift shop every time we visit Durango: Staff are friendly and helpful, the shop is clean, and there are always interesting things for sale!!We’ve gone here often over the past 5 years and have become disappointed with the ever increasing prices (this started happening beforeInflation). Some of the prices seem a bit unreasonable - we don’t go nearly as often.Bonus: Stop at the Humane Society Shelter next door and visit with the animals available for adoption. :)

Great place for second hand shopping. I find great scrubs and plus size clothes here. A variety of furniture and toys. This place helps out with the animal shelter right next door. They help with food for the animals. They always have specials every week. Come in and see if anything catches your eyes.

I put a dog on hold there and they refused to let me see the dog and the people that were behind the desk were really unprofessional and rude. They told me to fill out the paper work and threw the pen at me while yelling I need to fill it out when I just asked for a pen. She was an older white women with some grey in her hair that was dark as well. I hope I never see her again I will walk out and tell everyone that I know. I have had great service there before with everyone else but i wish they would be more professional.

Was welcome very rudely. This sure made me realize how this place treats people and will not be returning again. I was excited to see some animals with my little dog, but was told i couldnt go through with him. The folks at the front desk shouldve told me nicely that he can't be allowed. My dog is wellbehaved and small.

Rude/unprofessional front desk staff. I will support other animal rescues. I submitted an application for a feral cat (barn cat) and was denied because I would limit how much I would spend on medical bills should the cat need medical attention. And apparently at some point in 2016 I had my dog in the bed of my truck; however this is the first I’m hearing about this...Colorado does not have a law against a dog in the bed of a truck. “An animal does not need to be restrained or secured whether inside an enclosed part of the vehicle or within the cargo bed.” Per Colorado laws.Right here is the reason for the “cat population” problem. So much easier to respond to a free kitten ad.

I have gotten two kittens from them and when my roomate and I got them home. For a couple weeks they were having bloody diarrhea, I couldnt get ahold of their vet. I finally took them to my vet in Farmington since baxtrom was out on chemo. She told me they could have traces of leukemia but luckily they didnt. They had a food allergy which wouldnt have been a big deal of they paid more attention to the health care of the animals. They are healthy now with all the non wheat food I have given them.

You can for sure find something here and there. It kinda seems like the manager worked as an antique shop owner. Prices are way high, you might as well be paying full retail on a lot of these items. I got an item at the Methodist thrift store for 50 cents. Found the same item here for $2.99.

A great place. This place has the nicest staff. And there's always plenty of nice dogs and cats to see and play with. And adopted pets make the best pets. I got my cat Palo there for free at there adopt-a-thon. He's my buddy.

They're awesome with pets, and the thrift store side has the most goofy selection of stuff, include tech going back decades. Super chill staff too - who will barter with you :)
