My husband and I stayed there 1 night in June 2023. We were told to choose from 2 sites the manager pointed at. We chose one and then set up our tent. 1-2 hours later, the owner comes by and rudely told us that he had already promised that site to someone else so we had to move. He did not offer to help us move everything nor did he offer any kind of monetary compensation. And, we travel a lot and stay in campgrounds a lot, so we understand there was a mixup. The main thing that bothered us was his rude attitude when he spoke to us. We moved our tent that night. However, when we woke up and left the next morning, NO ONE was in that spot that he made us move out of.

I love it here. Ive been here almost 2 months and absolutely no one has bothered me yet I have made several friends. I feal safe and my dogs, no worries.I love having my coffee in the morning and watching the wildlife near my yard. There is a little bit everything out here that adds to the peacefulness.they are getting work done on things that they need to and if the rest of people would take care of things then everything out here would last so much longer. I would recommend this campground to anyone. the spaces are huge and all the amenities are here.Nearby activities: You can hike and climb, birdwatching and deer watch. Town is about 3 miles away so it is easy to get to. The owner makes sure everyone stays safe and has many security cameras around. If you can handle the lack of air that high up in the mountains, then you can walk for miles. You may wake up to deer at your door as they wander around the camp All day. It is beautiful.

Me, my brother, and my dad stayed there for a night. We were desperate for a place and it was perfect on google. The people were nice and the views were great. I am very used to backpacking, hiking for days and pitching hammock at night, so staying in a campground/ RV park is less awesome to me. Got to say though their firewood felt a bit overpriced. It felt more like a neighborhood than campground too, though that's to be expected at a RV park.If I were to change one thing, it would be the bathrooms. I'm a girl and even I prefer going in the woods than those toilets. Needs some cleaning once in a while. I've seen messy bathrooms but nothing like this before.Other than that though, just wasn't my feel for a get-a-way or campground. Nice people but when people are so close and don't clean up after themselves, it's not a matter of "ruffing it", it's a matter of hygiene. I personally didn't shower there but my brother and dad did. They told me they were surprised they didn't get foot fungus or worse. Thanks Lost Burrow for the very interesting experience though.

Beautiful campground and views. Bobby and team are super friendly and helpful.Bobby certainly adds to the fun experience.Ours was a family trip and our girls really enjoyed playing with the local kiddos.Certainly not for the camping purists but folk are friendly and it’s reasonably priced. Toilet and shower accommodations are somewhat basic but do the trick.A tip for hot summer days- try and get a campsite against the southern hill as there’s little shade on the northern side and can get hot in summer.Me and my 2 girls really enjoy this place. My wife likes the finer/nicer things and it’s not her favorite place. If your after Aspen prices, service and facilities then this place Likely isn’t for you. But if your relaxed and enjoy beautiful views, different/fun characters then you’ll like it here!

What a beautiful scenic location in the Mountains to relax and chill. The staff here are very attentive to your needs and are very approachable and friendly. Would highly recommend to family and friends to stay here for a break when they are in the area. With numerous events held here throughout the campsite season including Biker weekend for all you Bikers out there. There is a very pretty waterfall feature which is lovely to sit by on a nice summers day. Wish i could give it 10 stars !!!!!

About 10 of us spent 3 days (memorial day weekend) at this park and we all loved it! The Management TEAM were all wonderful to us. We were a lively motley crew and they didn't even blink and eye. The campground is clean-The bathrooms were clean-the spots were spacious. I cannot say enough about the crew of people that work here. We had an emergency with our grandson and within SECONDS they were tending to his needs. They are very kid friendly and helpful in every way. Thanks for the great experience!! WE WILL BE BACK AND WE WILL REFER MANY PEOPLE TO THIS CAMPGROUND!!

If I could give this more stars I would 10/10 HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!! Quiet area with stunning views and the stars just shine so bright there. Made my trip to cripple creek the greatest trip I've ever taken and I've explored 24 states so far. I cannot wait to book more return trips throughout the season for years to come.

Staying here for a few months. Prices are really good. Ecspecially considering you get a lot of privacy per lot. Campground is absolutely gorgeous. Mountains and trees everywhere you look. Campground is very well kept and maintained. Open year round, which is amazing. The owner, Bobby, is super friendly and will always greet you with a smile and is always available if needed! Awesome old school playground for kids too! Even has a few tire swings! Love this place! :)

My family has been coming to the Lost Burro for 26 out of the last 27 years and this was far ans away the worst camping experience I've had there, or anywhere for that matter. Mary, the former owner was always very accommodating and made us feel welcome. However, there are new owners and they are letting the place get run down. They were rude to us the entire time... including telling us that our fire was too big (we just were getting it going and it was not over 4 feet), almost charging us an extra day when we were not out by 11:00 AM (this was never a problem with Mary, but we were always out by 2:00), and constantly watching every move our entire party made. The majority of the people there are more or less "permanent" residents living in what I would describe as squalor. There are tarps covering the trailers to keep from leaking. One trailer had a piece of plywood for the front door. Many of the trailers had junk laying all over the place. The people living there made us feel like we were the outcasts there and we should not be in their community. Unless ownership changes, we decided as a group (almost 20 of us) will never be back again. It's sad to see a family tradition come to an end.

Spacious full hookup spots. He doesn't try and cram as many campers as he can in a small space. The location is very pretty and green. There are some full time residents there that are definitely on a budget but the owner does a good job of separating the visitors from the full time campers. All in all it's a good place that is secluded from the highway and close to Cripple Creek.

I just recently stayed there with my kids and it's such a shame that this beautiful area is being run down by drug addicts. The tent camping is gorgeous and quiet, however the rest of the upper part of park is full of old filthy camper trailers with tarps and plywood holding them together. The dumpsters were overflowing with trash and animals had gotten into it all and strung it all over the place. Not to mention when I asked if the water was potable water the owner said yes, therefore I filled my trailer tank with it and later I filled my dogs water bucket and it had a light brown color to it. To me that is "not" potable water. I would not recommend any family to this place unless under new owners in the future.

A very beautiful spot to find. Got rained out while looking for a new campsite. Called owner and he got us situated right away. Never had any problems with anything. Very well spaced sites a lively childrens park. This isnt for you city folk complaining about showers and dehumanizing the owners. The owner droped half a load of fire wood free of charge frist night we stayed the last night he invited us to check out his nusic system with lights we drank and talked like human beings fine man love how people say hes a hibbly meth head no sir hes a stoner southern hes old school very respectful and great host worked with us many times and wife was same never had any yelling and the doogie who barks at night wasnt there's but a camper. His doog was very sweet and friendly.

It has been a dream of mine for 25 years to move within my favorite mountain range since my first trip to Colorado. I've never stopped thinking about it.A few weeks ago I decided it was time to take my biannual trek to a favorite camping/fishing reservoir, Skaguay. Having been saddened to discover Skaguay no longer allows overnight camping I was searching for a place to camp and spend a few days. On my way back to Victor, the little town outside Cripple Creek, I spied a small sign suggesting "Lost Burro Campground".I quickly fed the name into my GPS and noticed it was a mere 10 to 12 miles from my current location. As I had just driven 550 miles this was a no brainer, and I was off.Upon reaching the entrance to the Lost Burro, I was a little unsure how my Mustang would handle the rough terrain but taking it slow was the correct choice. After a lengthy and friendly meeting with Bobby, the owner, and the purchase of a two night stay, I was incredibly happy with the small sign suggesting my future plans. It was late when I arrived but not quite dark. In the morning I had the opportunity to once again have a conversation with Bobby and his brother Clarence. They spoke of concerts during warmer weather, the assorted groups of people who utilize the campground for get-togethers and open sites for permanent residents. The latter got my attention. As I have a motorhome, and recently retired, I asked to see a few of the campgrounds reserved for the year-round residents. After showing me one space, I decided it was time to live my dream, the spot was perfect. This is my last day to reside in the same house I've been in for 16 years. It's tough downsizing 16 years into a motorhome but I wouldn't have it any other way. I have found my paradise. It wasn't in my plans to visit for a few days and look for a place in Colorado but sometimes you find what you're looking for when you're not even looking.Thank you Skaguay.

Terrible! Our visit last weekend emphasized the drastic decline of this place from previous visits several years ago. Upon arrival, we noticed 7-8 large overfilled dumpsters greeting us at the entry. The smell eminating from them was ghastly! We found the trailer that they use as an office, and were greeted to find out that they would NOT give us the campsites we had reserved months before. We had reserved them based on trying to get some shade, and we were told they had plenty of trees. There were none. We were given no instructions as to the use of the campsites, such as where to park, water, electrical, etc... When we found the campsite, we began to set up, only to have the owner "Bobby" come rushing up in his golf cart yelling at us that we were setting up in the wrong places in the campsite.... of course no previous instructions were given and no signs were posted. Maybe he expects that we can read his very small mind. He was incredibly rude and disorganized. We finally got set up in the overgrown weeds, and found plenty of trash left from previous occupants. These sites are not much different from dispersed camping, except the more permanent residents that live at the campground in various dilapidated trailers. There is a private residence very close by with many very loud dogs that howl and bark all day.... no idea what they are doing over there. We also heard gunshots from that property. The bathrooms are an uphill hike from the campsites, and not worth the effort. They are disgusting and filthy. There are 3 small stalls in there with only a curtain for privacy. The showers are disgusting and you have to wait. However, don't be surprised if you are a woman and "Bobby" walks right in to the womens' restrooms or showers to yell at you!! It happened to us!The entire campground is fast turning into a low rent trailer park. The owner is a disgusting creep who yells at customers and mistreats residences.I will NEVER return to this awful dump. Save yourself the trouble and just go to a Forest Service campground!

This campground has a lot of potential. It is not an area where one would go to have peace and quiet. The scenery is pretty if you are looking south. There are multiple trailers that live on site permanently and the trailers themselves are less than complete or perfect. Bobby was a great host, he understood when we left a day early. I dont think i would go back again under this current management.Playground: Looks to be in good shape. There is a lot for kids to do here.Restrooms: Restrooms are clean and orderly. The owner is doing the best that he can with what he has to work with.Dog-friendliness: They are good about dogs. As long as they are on leash its fine. I will say that the whole time were there we constantly hearing dogs bark from the people above us.

I think people are exaggerating a little bit with their awful reviews. The campground was quiet (except for barking from a house that might not even have been related to the campground) The owner was very friendly and helpful. Everything was clean. There weren't many trees and the camping area was a little open but still beautiful and located on a small Creek. We enjoyed our trip there.

Beautiful place. Have been coming here for 20 plus years on labor day weekend. Owners and employee's are turning the place into their personal dump. The whole top side of the grounds are littered with delapitated campers, with people living permanently in these tarp covered heaps decorated with trash and filth. Looks like an updated shanty town from the gold rush days. Employees are extremely rude and hard to deal with. Stay away. Stay far away. In less than a year have managed to turn a beautiful place into something from a 3rd world country.

Under new Management, and they are very friendly people. They were booked for some special week ends, but made room for us to stay all summer. We had a great time in Cripple Creek area. Free coffee on the week ends and was fun to visit with people who came to the office for coffee. All the employees are very friendly and helpful. They helped me store my car Dolly and put it on my Motor Home when we were ready to leave. I just can't say enough how beautiful this campground is and what a nice Rocky Mountain experience we had. We will be back for the summer 2015 if they will have us .. .... Let me add this ... we been to more fancy, but not more beautiful, and we been all over the USA. We never stayed more then a week anywhere but here.

Very rustic. Stayed in the tent camping area and was beautiful. Very much wildlife. One morning 20 deer came by our tent. Would give it 5 stars if the showers and facilities were in a little better shape. Loved looking at the Milky Way every nite..it was not a state park or KOA but very rustic..will go back AGAIN

The people was very nice. All of the people in the rv's looked like they lived there. Yes its kinda trashy looking but if you follow the trails up the hill there are many beautiful spots. Unfortunately we went in winter and like electricity so we had to stay on a rv spot which wasnt to bad but right by the trashy trailers and office. I would suggest running more electric to better spots. The bathrooms was clean and heated. They have a shower room that is clean and heated as well. Great veiw. I will say when we woke up the first morning the owner and some girl were fighting really loudly outside his trailer. And there are alot of barking dogs.... but we enjoyed our stay.

How do you destroy the nicest campground in the area in one year? The new owners appear to be running off weekend campers in favor of full time squalor. Broken down RV's and autos all over the place, many covered with plastic to keep them from leaking. Staff that watches you like a hawk, ready to harass you with some made up policy, all for $35 a night. Very disappointing, maybe the new ownership will learn to be more accommodating, we would love to see it return to the wonderful gem that was created by the previous owners.

Absolutely awful! I stayed a few months back. The moron owner told me the water was potable so I filled up our tank in the RV. A day later ended up in the hospital with E Coli. When I asked the owner Bobby for a refund he wanted to fight!. This place needs to be shut down. Such a shame a beautiful place is managed by a bunch of hopped up meth heads. Turning a nice park into a shanty town...

Note: This is a long review, and well over due. I feel it is well deserved though so I didn't mind taking the time to write this out. This past summer, my other half and I took a cross country road trip. We are from Pennsylvania, and we traveled up to New Hampshire and Maine, and then traveled all the way to California and back. It was the trip of a lifetime, and the greatest experience of my life so far.We stayed at different campgrounds along the way, looking them up as we reached new areas. Lost Burro stood out in particular.I had read the reviews online, and was nervous at first, though most were old and outdated. Upon arriving that changed greatly. We initially planned on staying 3-4 days, but ended up staying 5-6 days if my memory serves me right. We were tenting as a reference. The roads are dirt, but well maintained. The couple who runs the campground now (I feel horrible that I forget there name's at the moment,) was very welcoming. They provided my girlfriend and I with a very nice site along the wood line with a plethora of space. They had mentioned they had recently taken over ownership, and were working to improve the campground exponentially. They provided firewood, delivered right to our campsite in bulk for a good price, and when I asked for some smaller tinder... they did not hesitate to get it for us. The bathrooms and showers were very well taken care of, as well. Being a former Boy Scout, I have seen my fair share of clean and filthy campground bathrooms... The owners and staff definitely took pride in making sure everything was kept clean daily. The showers never ran out of hot water, and shared showering was not looked down on while I was there. There is even a wash station and sink provided to clean out any dishes, cups, etc.The residents who stay in the long term/permanent section were very friendly and welcoming and told us a lot about local places to check out, the wildlife in the immediate area, and some cool stories in general.I play guitar, and had spent a few nights playing later at night by the campfire. Not once did anyone give me an issue, and a few nights other campers actually cheered me on to continue. There are plenty of woods to walk through in the campground, but be cautious of the wildlife. There was also a small creek (Cripple Creek) that runs through the campground. They have a small panning table, and the owners mentioned they sometimes have panning events for kids. We had decided to use a bowl we had and see what we could find. We had found some great pieces of quartz and, from what we gather, small flakes of gold. (I posted pictures of the flakes. Don't hesitate to correct me if it isn't gold lol.)I loved the fact we were pretty centrally located to many different hot spots to check out. If you need any essentials, there was a general store and beer distributor about 10 min down the road. (Side note... The beer distributor has Victory Golden Monkey, which is from a local brewery to where I live currently. I was very happy to find it. If you haven't ever had it... Try it. It's about 9% and tastes great... lol)My favorite part of our stay there was the scenery, though. (See photos.) Being from a light polluted area, the night sky was unbelievable. The mountains in the background were fantastic. There are loads of ground squirrels throughout the campground that pop out throughout the entire day, and a few campground cats that meander here and there.Overall, this is a fantastic campground. Any of the reviews from before 2016 shouldn't be taken into full consideration, since the new owner's have done an amazing job since. My only disappointment (more for the sake of the owners then my own interest,) was that there weren't more people staying while we were there. I feel/hope that this review might help change that, though.I hope to return in the future!

The scenery is absolutely gorgeous but there are some downsides. The bathrooms are up at the entrance and so if you camp down in the valley you have to walk a looong way. The showers are very mediocre. They are cramped as all get out and clean is not a word I would use to describe them. If you have shower shoes you can have a better than nothing shower but it's definitely not ideal. There is also a mining claim right smack in the middle of the campground which makes finding a spot to camp tricky. Otherwise I had a good camping expierence. I might come back some day.

Squallar campground right out of the Mad Max movie trilogy. Definitely gives the appearance of a concerning place to camp. Bathroom & shower was beyond nasty. It'd be interesting to hear an opinion from the county drug task force.

I do not recommend this campground to anyone who does not like being yelled at and verbally assaulted! The owner of the campground Bobby cursed me unnecessarily and to a degree that was profoundly unprofessional all because my dog got off her leash! He has a temper that should not be projected unto his tennets such a way. Yes it is a beautiful place however other things take away from its beauty think twice before you camp there!
