This place has good working appliances. I bought 2 tvs here’s and they both work great. My 3 year old broke the first one with a toy car so I went in this morning and got another one for a really low price that works great with my Apple cord. The service is awesome also, it was kinda early in the morning when we came through with a little 3 yr old. Thank you for the tv. God bless

Don’t call yourself an animal shelter… you’re not. You’re a foster facilitator. All over the website and online it lists dogs as available in Cortez. The signs in the window are also deceiving as they say “adopt” “foster”. There are no animals at this location and it is only a thrift store. That needs to be made clear….. super confusing. We drive from Durango to see this shelter and we’re shocked when we were told this “animal shelter” doesn’t actually have animals that can be seen.

Some deals to be found, but a lot of inventory seems overpriced. $65 for a garbage disposal I can get online for $58. A lot of stuff isn't marked, so you have no idea how much items are. I hate going up and having to ask, "How much is this?" I'd rather put it down and look for something that is marked.. or just leave without buying anything.

Adopted one of your rescue pups "Hale" and I'm in love with my sweet little girl. She's such a gentle attentive spirit. I've renamed her Maila. Thank you Floss, Jamie and the rest of your staff for making this happen and thank you for all that you and your team do for these animals. The foster went out of her way to accommodate us as we got into town later than planned (9 hour drive). Jamie did a wonderful job fostering this sweet girl. Highly recommend adopting, donating and supporting this wonderful organization.

Denkai is a great sanctuary to work with. We foster dogs for them and they are very organized and always available for questions, concerns, or suggestions. They make the foster and adoption process pretty flawless :)

What a great rescue. I called about one of their dogs and from the get go, even though they were very busy in the store, they were extremely helpful.The dog I wanted was suppose to go to Denver on Monday but they made the effort to call their contact there, and they said I could have him. Working with Dallas was so easy and she was great. She went out of her way to contact me to let me know my little guy, Ezekiel, was neutered and doing well.It was a great adoption and a great little dog. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Overall, high prices on average items. Thrifting is a good medium of exchange. Prices in this store should be adjusted to fit the merchandise.

This thrift shop was totally amazing, and shame on me because I have forgotten her name, but the lady who was supervising on the day I was there was absolutely amazing. She puts her whole heart into the success of the sanctuary. She shared with me all of the projects that they are involved in, and what they hoped to become involved in. If I still had a business, which I don't, she is a type of employee I would give my eye teeth to have. Wonderful place and a good cause to support!!!

I love Denkai and the work they do for dogs who need fostering and/or adopting. You can get new items, thrift items, and many times there are dogs & puppies to pet. You can even sign up to be a volunteer dog walker!

I am in the process of adopting a companion to my current boxer dog. While we haven't yet been successful in finding the right fit, Tara has been immensely helpful and patient in the effort and I look forward to working with her and Denkai in the future.I haven't spent much time in the thrift store, but it appears clean, seems to have a decent selection of stuff, and includes (of course) a dedicated pet toy section. I'll be returning soon.

I had been looking for a hypoallergenic small dog breed for a whole year due to living conditions. I finally gave up due to scams, and overpricing as well as puppy mills, and I figured it wasn't the right time, and I thought it will happen, just not right now. I went into Denkai with my mother after filling out an application months prior for a dog/pup. We originally went in there to thrift store shop, but I figured I might as well ask about any possible small dog breeds available. They told me they had 2 shitzus and a Yorkie coming in the very next day. I had my heart set on a shitzu, I had ALWAYS wanted a Yorkie, but after reading about their temperament, I decided against it. The next day we arrived to look at the newly available dogs, and the shitzus we're both boys, due to my living condition, I was only allowed to have a girl. The one Yorkie they had was a girl, she jumped up and down everytime I came to kennel and barked and cried every time I walked away. We were drawn to each other, there was just something about her, I filled out her paperwork and took her home for permanent adoption. She came from a kill shelter in Texas! It was the best decision I have EVER made. Now she is my best friend, and brings so much joy to my life! She was potty trained within the 2 days I have had her. She is great with people and animals! The Denkai shelter/thrift store was SO kind, helpful, and compassionate and thanks to them, I got my forever fur baby/best friend ❤️

No clue about the rescue. The thrift shop is fine, if not especially well organized. There were two employees there when I walked in, and at no point did anyone acknowledge my existence, let alone greet me or ask if I needed help. Which is a shame, because I really was interested in supporting their efforts for animals. 😕

Bad, couldn't get any help and just heard the counter person (male) just talking bad about Natives, how trashy all their homes are, and how bad natives in general are. Couldn't pay or get any help trying to adopt a puppy/dog that might've worked with my sons epilepsy.Edit: Police were never called on me. There was no incident with me and the male attendant. There was no incident as stated, and I would love to know the Police Report #. I was there after 12 pm. I was there from 1:07 pm to 1:37 pm. So I would love to know the information about the incident that you are saying I caused.

We adopted our sweet puppy Franky (formerly Sie) from Denkai. Tara was great with answering all of our questions and kept us updated on her post surgery progress. Tara was her foster mom and I could tell Franky was very much loved in her foster home. I would definitely adopt another dog through this organization.

Didnt get to shop because of the recent virus. We dropped off our donations and had contact with a worker via text message. The voicemail had a number to text and an email to reach during this time. My message was responded to in a timely manner and once I left our items they were picked up after we left for a no contact donation. Glad we found them and glad to help support any animals needing. Thank you for letting us donate still during the hectic time.

We were lucky enough to foster a puppy in anticipation of adoption from Denkai for two weeks, who at the time they said needed a leg amputation. After two weeks of having him, we realized his broken leg was healing on its own and with alternative rehabilitative therapies (my husband and I are both medical professionals and worked on rehabilitation with the dog) and tried telling Denkai it was not necessary. We asked for them to take new X-rays, they refused any second opinion. Once we dropped puppy off for his amputation day, the vet, told us "it is a miracle", i was going in there to amputate and noticed his leg bones had fused back together and he does not need surgery. Denkai saved 1.5K (they have to pay for the amputation and neuter before adopting) in not having to amputate. In the two weeks of rehabilitation, caring for the pup, taking him to surgery and giving him alternative therapies; they would not discount their 450$ adoption fee. Not to say it matter's the money, they do promote a good cause within the community. However, the dog would be 3 legged without us, having costing them triple the cost. The least they could do would be to friendly offer any lower consideration for adoption costs to whom helped him heal, and have many friends in the community that donate to them. Never cross a bitter woman with "15 years of experience" I guess, who is upset she was wrong. Sheer arrogance.

Prices are very low but stock is also. So a good place to check out when shopping at thrift stores. I did find a cute light weight jacket & it was only $1.00!

This place is great! Not only do they have Dog's for adoption there. They have great items a even better price. Love the $5 bag day me and my little boy have a fun time finding all the clothes we can get. And you never know what is going to be there from week to week. Love it!

They shipped a german shepherd from Cortez who has a broken leg. Said they were having surgery. The dog hasn't had surgery, they won't respond, no pain meds and no food. They blocked me from their FB page. This place needs to be shut down. Will be calling the State on Tuesday after the holiday to report them. Don't' foster or adopt.

Don’t work here.
