It seems like it's a little hit or miss who is working at the time and the north location. Two guys that almost look like brothers are awesome. They were as excited as we were for us to be new axolotl owners and were SO helpful and encouraging. I went back twice to get some food, and both times it was other guys that made me feel dumb and like I was an inconvenience. "Get your stuff and get out" is how I felt. I wish I'd gotten the first two guys' names! I haven't been back because I got the impression I'm an annoyance that I'm into the "trendy" exotic animal. 😢 If only I knew when the first two guys were working I'd be there regularly :) Our little guy that we got there is doing great!!

Healthy animals and friendly staff who know what they're talking about. My crested gecko from them is as healthy and happy as ever a year later, and I always head here when I need supplies. Would strongly recommend this spot for advice on care or equipment, the employees won't try to sell you anything you don't need and they're clearly very passionate about reptiles.

Easily missed it's just one more store and one more strip Mall in the sea of strip malls in this city, this little shop has all the supplies you need to begin having a reptile as a pet in your home. Very friendly customer service, the man even allowed my daughter to touch a snake we were interested in purchasing. Staff is very knowledgeable about each animal they sell.

Always love coming here. Even if they don't have the crickets I need, they're always super nice and helpful about it, checking their other store to see if they have them. When they have any of the critters out, they help guide my 6yo son on how to pet them. Always a great place to go and will keep coming back. 😊

We called the location on Constitution and unfortunately the staff were less than helpful, saying that they could not tell us a product that is used in store because they did not want us to buy it somewhere else…but then we tried the North Academy location, and Kyle was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. He gave us the info we needed and even let us know that they were having a discount on the product we needed. He seemed more concerned for the animal and not making a sale, and for that we are thankful and will be coming in today! Thanks Kyle!

They are convenient for needs and the employees are nice and knowledgeable, but the simple fact that they keep two grown Caimans in a fish tank that I wouldn’t put more than 2 fish in shows that the owners do not value reptiles the same way the rest of us do. It is straight up animal cruelty.

Paul was awesome and so helpful. My 6 yr old son is obsessed with bugs, so we went on to get some caterpillars to hatch into moths. Paul showed my little guy every grub and larva and isopod they had, teaching him about them. He was knowledgeable and very kind. We ended up getting a frog too, and the bedding for him, and my son is so happy with his new pets! Thank you

They are so customer service friendly and also super helpful with tips on your reptiles! They have way better prices for live food then petco (plus you won't have a bunch of dead insects unlike petco)

Great selection. Healthy animals. Horrible customer service.Went in there a couple times and never felt welcome. Never got asked if I needed help. Made to feel dumb when I did ask for advice.Second and last time I was there a young man was asking lots of questions and the employee was again, extremely condescending when answering, like you could see the look of disappointment on the young man’s face because he was honestly just trying to learn but being made to feel stupid. I could understand if they were busy, but we were the only two people in the whole store, and I had already learned my lesson about asking questions.I was so excited when I got my bearded dragon and thought I had found a spot with knowledgeable, friendly staff to help me figure some things out as a new owner but alas, I will never go back to this store because they don’t seem like they care to help, they just care to take your money.

They always have fresh crickets for my lizards. I have never had a question they couldn't answer. Everytime I go in, I'm checked out in a matter of minutes. They are just that fast! I have gone here for years and will continue to go and tell other reptile owners that this is the spot to go for all their reptile needs!

This store has some pretty great stuff and plenty of unique reptiles, however, I don't agree with cohabitation as sometimes they have like 10 baby boas in one small enclosure, and to me that seems like a health issue. They also won't let you hold reptiles unless you buy, but I'm not buying unless I see how it handles, and if it's even compatible and healthy or not. I can't see half of them sometimes so how am I supposed to make a decision? To negate this issue, I feel like they should just not let children handle, and maybe limit it to once a day for the reptiles, just to have something. At least for the people who are interested/want to know how a specific reptile handles, to see if it's something they'd want in the future. Just make people use germx if dirty hands are the issue. And while plenty of workers are really nice and eager to help, some workers I've noticed seem a bit condenscending and I felt like I was treated a bit like an idiot sometimes.

Not sure what is going on but we are now on our 3rd lamp and 3rd bulb in 4 months. I brought it in to have it looked at and the guy was very nice, but he informed me that I would need to buy a new bulb and lamp, the bulb because it was broken and the lamp because whoever set us up the first time according to him, did it wrong. They were nice enough to replace the bulb and lamp the first time they broke, but the bulb broke just 3 weeks later and he said they can’t do anything about that. They are $100 a pop and his response was “Welcome to reptiles bro.” Having to spend $400 on bulbs and lamps in 4 months is ridiculous!

I had a bad experience with the constitution location but this N. Academy Scales and Tails / Reptile is great … friendly, knowledgable people, treated us well despite the store being busy- cages were clean , small place but a decent amount of choices for accessories and animals - friendly tortoise free roaming - I wish they’d get a few larger accommodations for the bigger animals but overall good experience … kudos to the staff !

Fast and knowledgeable service by Jake. He helped me find the tarantula I needed and walked me through the care and maintenance of the animal. The store was well stocked and the animals seemed well looked after and happy. They had a good selection of terrarium supplies and food needed for the various critters. Their selection of tarantulas was also great ranging from beginner varieties to more advanced specimens in the hobby and the prices were beyond competitive.

Aside from location (not the easiest to access heading north on Academy), this is a great go-to for reptiles, amphibians and supplies. Lamps, cages, food, these guys have it all. They have a diverse and ever-changing lineup of snakes and lizards for sale.

They have great customer service. Very welcoming atmosphere and they are informative to beginners looking to get a new pet. They were able to identify the sex of our ball python. We've been regular customers for over a year. They always go above and beyond.

Thank you for about 30 of the 50 crickets we asked for. Service has been substandard the last couple of months. My wife & daughter did not receive good service when they went to purchase a new bearded dragon a couple of weeks ago. Then this is the "50" they recieve. Stop treating women poorly!

This store is very 50/50.I really enjoy the selection, however the prices are a little high (which is alright for an independent franchise).The staff is either very knowledgeable and friendly, or the absolute rudest men I have ever met.I have had both wonderful service here and the worst service of my reptile keeping. When I go in with either my boyfriend or my father, they are very kind and helpful.When I go in by myself (as a younger single woman) I get an attitude that is condescending, rude, and simply dismissive.I am uncomfortable going into this store alone.The gentleman who helped me the last time I was in was amazing, but another man who has served me a few times is terribly rude.I was also scoffed at for asking if they offered frozen prey. I just moved from out of city, and the local Scales up there did offer frozen.When I asked the cashier where he would recommend getting frozen prey (as they don't offer it here) he looked at me and said "I don't know." and gave me a disgusted look.I'm so tired of being treated poorly when trying to take care of my animals. I would rather travel out of my way than visit this store.If the employees who were terribly rude were either disciplined, retrained in customer service, or let go, I would definitely be willing to give this store a second shot.For now, I am very disappointed.

Love this place so much. Managed to get my mom her original Argus Monitor back from these guys, lucky find!! Plus my beautiful babies I recently got!!! Always happy to help and a great variety of reptiles to choose from! Couldnt recommend a better place for supplies and reptiles.

This is a great place for your reptile friends. Knowledgeable staff, usually have everything you need to take care of your pets that have scales, tails, and more than 4 legs. Alway have a good variety of animals on display and usually have a couple turtles roaming the store. Will recommend them for sure.
