Spa customer service is amazing. They had to cancel a service for my wife and daughters as the provider had an emergency. They made it very right. Thank you April for ALL you did! They had an amazing experience. Five stars. The Guest Services other than the spa were horrible. First when I called to see if they could put a little treat or acknowledgment of my wife’s birthday that we could see upping our arrival, I was told in the phone “uh, we don’t do that”. Then my daughter called down for more pillows and a 4th set of towels (we have our family of four in the room) the gentleman was downright nasty to her. So I called and he was nasty to me. The server in the fireside restaurant made sure to let everyone know how stressed she was.Spa? Amazing! Guest services? Missed opportunities for them to create a great experience.

The rooms here are very nice but it’s unfortunate that they have a $65 resort fee when you are not getting much for the “resort”. There are no servers or drink runners in the casino, no one is coming to bring you a drink or take an order. They basically only have slots, there are barely any roulette tables and they are sat on for hours if you can get a seat. The pool is nice, but although it’s indoors it’s not heated. The hot tubs are nice. All around it’s pretty mid and not worth the money.

Absolutely worst experience! We got stuck in Denver due to snow storm and came in 1 day later. They canceled our policy and refused to honor our original price. Manager of that hotel should be terminated as soon as possible! I will never come back to this location and for sure book Monarch down the street… at least they appreciate their customers!

The experience was fine until we had to eat they charged us all these outrageous extra fees just to sit together with our friends it pretty much doubled our bill and we have decided we will never eat there again they’ll be lucky if we ever stay there again after how much one meal cost

In bigger places like this it's sometimes hard to guarantee each employees courteous and competent. However, when I expressed my concerns to Walter the manager, he was so receptive and kind and did everything he could to assure we left happy still. Very glad he is in the position he is in because when the right people come along he is going to lead them and the establishment in a beautiful path

Save your money and go somewhere else. My friend and I went here this last Thursday. My friend was the one who was hyping me up about going to this place and I couldn’t have been more disappointed. The only person that was nice to us was the girl that got us checked in. Beyond that everything was horrible. The room was dirty, like the light shade had dents and spots in it. The furniture looks old and scuffed up bad. The bathroom and the pillows were really nice that’s about it tho. We spent an hour and a half in the casino and was never offered a drink. The cocktail server chicks were rude and would just stare at us until I eventually walked up to stand at the bar for 5 min before she reluctantly came over and asked what I wanted and when I got my drink back it was pretty much juice. I know they were just jealous and hating on us because there was multiple times I would make eye contact with one of them so I could get a drink and they would just turn their back and start laughing, and completely ignore us. Maybe hire better servers that aren’t insecure and take better care of themselves because yikes.. I won’t be returning back here i rather pay alittle more and stay at the Monarch!

Worst experience at a casino. Me and my boyfriend's flight landed late and because they have a policy of cancelling your reservation as after 930 pm it you don't check in we drove 2 hours for nothing and we're legitimately stuck. The reception was so rude. They then tried to charge us for a cancellation. This is the absolute worst casino.Safety: Not safe.

Came to check out the casino for the first time this past weekend. Now I see why there's a line at the buffet in the Monarch and why there wasn't at the Ameristar, on a Friday night. The food was worse than hospital food. Every single item. Tasted like it came prepackaged from Sysco. The Mac and cheese was like eating straight synthetic cheese with zero seasoning and some mushy noodles. The ham was dried out as well as the crab legs. The crab was so bad I couldn't even scrape the meat out with a fork, that's how over cooked it was. Waited until almost desert before I received my first drink. I won't mention what the server looked like. Let's just say she looked and smelled like she rolled through the dumpster, digging for cigarettes. Zero attention to personal hygiene. The buffet and service was not even worth Golden Corral prices. The casino itself was definitely sub par at best. Several tables sat empty, the loud and rowdy groups made it feel like a 2001 frat party with some Craigslist poker dealer. Sat in the high roller room because it was the only spot that wasn't gross and didn't feel like I was in a seedy night club. Joined the veterans reward program but the rewards nothing special. No free buffet or a night stay after so many points. The machines were cold the whole time. Couldn't win more than $1 on the $1 and $5 slots. After a few hundred I lost interest. At least at the Monarch the complimentary drinks were continuous, the restaurants are somewhat comparable to Vegas and rarely am I not up at least a couple hundred. The rooms are nice and there is a variety of food options. After this 1st visit, I have zero desire to return.

Don't stay here unless no one is counting on you, you have the means to be highly flexible, and you're comfortable being treated poorly. On multiple occasions over the past 3.5 months, I have arrived to find that Ameristar Hotel management has canceled my reservations based upon a staff mistake or oversight. Two of these occassions occurred on holidays. No one made an effort to contact me. So, I didn't find out until I arrived. Management had zero concern. They did not reinstate any of the reservations. They did not compensation me for the inconvenience. No apology was issued. It seems abundantly clear to me that management has no concern for the customer experience and no understanding of customer service.Book at your own risk.* I have edited this review to add this response. I see that I was asked to email "us." However, without providing your name, position at the hotel, and an email address where you may be contacted the reply feels insincere as I cannot email anyone to seek resolution.

Went up to BlackHawk for the first time and man what a disappointment Ameristar made. The hotel and staff were wonderful, but the casino was horrible. They boast about 20 minute wait for drinks, but waited hours. We had two different waiters take our drink orders and never came back. Unlike Vegas if you walk up to the bar your drinks are not free. You have to be gambling on a machine or table. The soda/coffee station was even worse. Half the soda didn't work and they didn't have cups. When we went to get our cards they said this even their slow time. Couldn't imagine how much worse it would've been during peak times l.Stay for the hotel. Gamble at a casino that actually cares.

My significant other and I chose Ameristar Casinos for a two night getaway, while she was enjoying her time at the amenities provided, I wanted to grab a quick bite to eat. In the lobby near front desk they have a decent cold sandwich cooler. Granted the prices for a simple sandwich that isn’t freshly made to order are a bit much, I opted for this assuming it would be quick. Only having large bills, I had a concern regarding change. My assumption was incorrect as the issue was much trivial than a transaction regarding large bills. To my surprise not only was the front desk beyond rude, they were very dismissive and too busy to offer any alternative solutions to the unnecessary dilemma created by the policy upheld. I politely asked to speak to the supervisor on duty only to be met with an escalated, ill tempered irritated supervisor. I understand it’s merely a sandwich. However I had a positive attitude towards a mutual compromised solution. I was met with the contrary. Being a combat veteran with over eight years honorable service I was triggered by the lack of support. Again I realize it’s only a sandwich, but for a veteran who eats my emotions I was greatly disappointed. A month prior I was in the same situation yet my cash was accepted. I wouldn’t think a place of this high reputation for excellent customer support and service would have a double standard regarding the SOPs of daily operations. I can only assume my ethnic background had a play in this, or at least this is how I feel being that a white group ahead of me lacked both credit card and proper identification were met and assisted with a few options that allowed for a smooth check in. I guess one can assume the veteran friendly establishment is a facade. Disappointed and hungry, I suggest the Monarch for veteran friendly service and accommodations. Kudos to Ameristar for alienating a Native American Combat Veteran.

My wife and I came up here for a weekend alone. The room is over priced for what this casino is. We knew that coming up but for the get away we accepted it. We ended up going to the Monarch for dinner because of the poor restaurant reviews at this hotel. We came back after dinner to gamble. First, we gambled at a roulette table for an hour and a half. We didn’t see one single waitress. My wife ended up leaving her chips at the table to go to the bar. The bartender Jacob made her pay for well drinks even though she let him know we were gambling. We finally left the table. We got up and both went to the bar. This bartender was polite and told us that as long we gambled well drinks were comped. He comped our drinks and we tipped him accordingly. We then ended up going to a black jack table. Same thing, we were there for 1 1/2 hours without a single waitress. We asked the pit boss if he could tell the bar manager. He laughed and shrugged it off saying how common this was. We finally stopped gambling and went to the bar for a night cap. We ran into bartender Jacob again who “warned us” he could give us one last comped drink and that was it. We went to the concierge at that point to complain and waited 40 minutes for the bar manager to speak to us. She was nice but offered nothing else but to apologize and comped us $18 for our drinks. To top it off we tried to order room service ( which is advertised on the website as a part of the $330 room) and were told this hotel doesn’t offer room service. We will never be back. I will tell this story to anyone I hear about considering a staying in Blackhawk.Noteworthy details: Terrible service. Falsely advertises in room dining.

Consistently the best place to gamble in Blackhawk. Clean. Friendly, professional dealers, comfortable layout and atmosphere, great food, and clean rooms with amenities and comfy beds. (Luxury for a mountain town!). PS. Whoever does the decorating deserves a big Kudos! Beautiful year-of-the-dragon theme going on now.Walkability: Easy access in and out and all around.

Paid extra for a 'City view' room and could only see the rooftop of the garage and nothing else. Also purchased late check out on their website, and was argud with. They said 'we do not allow late check out on Saturdays' it was eventually resolved but an unnecessary conflict to start our stay. If it isn't allowed, then why offer it on your website? The room itself was decent, the bathroom was the nicer part.

Beautiful hotel with nice dining in a great location. Service at tables, restaurants and rewards was below average. Couldn’t get a drink even in the Baccarat room. This could be the best property in Colorado gaming, but the service dramatically lowers the customer experience.Food & drinks: Jinya has great food but terrible service. Two visits with same results. Won’t come back.

This place was recently purchases by Penn Gaming. I was VIP before the new owners took over and it was my favorite casino while I was living in Colorado. I stayed there this month while on a business trip and they actually made some improvements. They added a new Japanese restaurant downstairs which was fantastic. They also added some newer slots and table games. The rooms were very nice and cozy. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. I definetly would recommend.Rooms: All rooms are very comfortable and clean.Food & drinks: Starbucks is always nice in the morning. Good restaurants. VIP buffet is fantasticNoteworthy details: Not dog friendly - service animals are accepted.

TLDR; Ameristar is older and it’s clear there is no focus on customer service top down. Spa reviews about rudeness are accurate.I grew up in Colorado and had not been to Blackhawk for about 10 years when my wife brought up the idea of coming here for her birthday. After looking at hotel options it was narrowed down to Ameristar and Monarch, unfortunately we decided on Ameristar. From the moment we arrived we felt like the entire hotel is designed to nickel and dime you. Before arriving we were told that spa passes would be available so we could use the facilities however upon arrival we were very rudely told by the spa that we were not able to purchase passes. This was a disappointment but the other reviews about the spa’s customer service are pretty spot on.After missing out at the spa, since we had time before checking in, we decided to have lunch at the Fireside Kitchen. Overall the food was OK but the spicy Philippine sandwich was pretty awesome. After filling up we went to check in and were told that since it was still 15min before check in we would be charged $20 to check in. We waited. Our room was on a very high floor, I recommend skipping this since the WiFi does not work up there. The room itself was spacious but a bit run down. The carpet was loose and needed to be stretched, and the housekeeping was not great. We found hairs in the bathtub and the Shower glass had soap scum/hard water stuck to it pretty badly. My wife really wanted a bathtub to use wind in and while this room did have one it was pretty small.Casino time. I’m more used to Vegas casinos so the general mood of Ameristar was different. Some dealers are great, some are basically emotionless robots. The casino itself is downstairs from the hotel and feels a bit like a basement. When I signed up for the players club there were no incentives and I still have not received any mail or emails from them about 3 weeks later (the employee told me it could take 30-60 days). After gaming we had dinner at the Timberline Grill, crab legs and pork chops. This meal was really great. I can see why others mention it being slow, it was not very busy and the food did take longer than expected. When we left the next day we stopped at Monarch to check it out and were immediately impressed. We will be trying Monarch the next time we’re in town, they have already mailed me a coupon for some free play and a free buffet.

Nice place. Friendly staff. Had trouble getting something to eat. Don't like Sushi & the Fireside wasn't open. We finally went across the street to the Golden Nugget to get a bite. We had to get a member card before they would let us buy lunch without it.Friday morning we checked on the TV to see what time the Fireside opened for breakfast. It showed that Fireside wasn't open for breakfast. So we decided to go across the street again. When we got downstairs, we noticed they were open so we went in. However, when we were ready to pay for breakfast, they said we couldn't charge to our room. We hadn't even checked out yet but the hotel desk said they had closed us out. So we paid with credit card. Also, when we checked out on Friday, there was no Mr. Pibb or Root Beer. Not the greatest stay.

We were excited to come to Blackhawk for a get away trip and when we arrived their service was down so we could not get checked in at 4pm. After waiting 30 minutes they said we could be on a call list so we left and stayed around the area until we got called. After three hours of no call we called the hotel and they said our room was already ready but never told us. Once we finally got up to our room there was no tv remote. We had to call down to get the remote. We tried calling front desk for the pool hours since we could not find them online and no one answered after we called two different times. To end the night I tried to shower and all the hot water was gone! The room was nice but the quality wasn’t worth the price!

We stayed for one night; it was a nice experience. The rooms were big, spacious, and had beautiful furniture. The bathroom was huge as well, with both a shower and a bathtub separate. I liked the room a lot. We spent some time at the casino, which was fun but pricey. There's not much waitstaff in the casino, but we got great service in the bar. The location was walkable. A little more out of the way from the "strip" but hardly an inconvenience. A good amount of food choices and things to do in hotel. My only complaint is that going to the front desk for anything (check in, check out, new room key) took on adverage 10 minutes and as other reviews had mentioned, they dont enforce "adult time" in the pool. I knew both of these things might happen when I booked, so I was not shocked. I would stay again, hoping for a little more staffing. :)
