One and a half weeks ago, we went to this shelter to look for a dog. We saw one on the website that sounded great but volunteers there said that the dog was not a good match for us at all and recommended a different dog. They were so knowledgeable about the dogs kept there! We met the dog and we loved him right away! We are so thankful that he was recommended to us! He keeps us company in whatever room we’re in! Is a good little watchdog! He is a sweetheart! So thankful for our new companion!

Super friendly and helpful staff take wonderful care of all the critters, and will walk you through the whole adoption process. We had an appointment, but they do walk-ins too (check for hours) and local adoption events. The kitties we looked at all had so many toys to play with! Really lovely shelter.

5/5 besides 1 staff interaction I had. I felt as if this incident completely shifted my understanding and relationship with the Yolo County Animal Shelter (alleged rescue). I understood that I would care for the multiple dogs I have adopted with my housemates. However, when we could no longer care and provide for our dog Penny, we decided the best decision was to surrender her in good faith. When I went with my partner on the afternoon of January 30th, I spoke with Lauren, I said that I would need to surrender my dog, I even included a list of notes of why we may no longer care for her, what issues are arising, and general notes. Instead I was told that I am contractually obliged to own and care for this dog. I told Lauren I cannot care for this dog but instead of listening to the needs of the dog, she reminded me I am the owner. I was trying to surrender her (relinquish ownership), so while I fully am aware of my owner/pet relation with Penny, I cannot care for her, and I feel negligent as a dog owner to not properly care for my dog. I kept pleading that I cannot care for this dog, but instead I was told that I have no remedy/help from the Yolo County Animal Shelter.I can tell Lauren was frustrated in dealing with me, and it made me very uncomfortable. I really just wanted some help, so I decided to leave and come back in 10 minutes, and came back to ask for any resources they have for surrendering animals. To my shock, Lauren immediately reached for paperwork that was readily available to the front desk that had everything I ever needed to know for surrendering my dog, plus a form to start the surrender process with the Yolo County Animal Shelter. At the end, i shared that I felt there was a lack of empathy for me and my dog's situation, and Lauren turned away and said okay. The situation/customer service was so bad that another co-worker had to immediately start talking to me to clear the bad air that Lauren had created.I truly do not know how someone without empathy for me or my dog's situation ended up caring for dogs. I hope that Yolo County Animal Shelter would be more empathetic and understanding for people that want to surrender their animals in good faith. I had to come back a second time just to get the proper form, information, and care that I and everyone else deserves. It is not right, for me, for Penny, and for everyone and their loved animals.

This animal shelter is a great place to come if you're looking for a new furry friend. You can tell that the workers here truly care for the animals within the shelter. They also usually have free pet food available for the public who might be struggling to afford to feed their pets!

I am a volunteer! I hope that this message reaches the many people that think shelters kill animals for no reason! That's not what happens , all animals have a great chance. There are no reason to euthanize a good dog. I promise that

I am a disabled 33 year old & my doctor thought a dog would do me good since I’m already on all the meds & treatments possible. I couldn’t figure out how to work there website so I came in & Trisha helped me without a appointment. I explained why I wanted/needed dog & she picked out the perfect companion dog a lab/German Shepard mix but mostly lab & she’s extremely calm & is perfect. Highly recommend Trisha & the shelter overall.

My hat is off to all of the people, Employees, animal service officers, and volunteers that come together to take care of all these animals that are lost, abandoned, or given up. The next time you think of adopting, Consider a shelter animal. These animals have so much love to give: They are just waiting for their forever home

I live in Solano county, but my sister and I saw a really cute photo of a 7 mo. Old Tuxedo kitty. So, we checked it out. The staff were really friendly and very interactive. We asked to look at several kittens/ cats and they were very pleasant and accommodating. If you want to adopt a feline, it is $50 as opposed to Solano who charges $120. Don't get me wrong, I have adopted from the Solano Animal Shelter 3 times...but, if you want these animals adopted, I do believe that the price could easily be $50.Anyway, I DID adopt the 7 month old kitty and her name is Minnie. She is the sweetest of my cats. So affectionate and friendly ❤️I totally recommend that you check this Shelter out, if you are looking for pets. I do believe that you will need an appointment to see the dogs.

Officer Breckenridge picked up a stray elderly poodle found wandering on Abbey Street in Winters. The dog seemed to be deaf and blind and in poor shape, though well fed. Officer Breckenridge was very caring and compassionate. He handled the dog very gently and was very professional and courteous. I commend him and your office for your efforts. Thank you so much. Great service!

I adopted two kittens this weekend from Yolo County Animal Services Shelter. What an amazing facility !! Laura Nguyen, the Foster Program Coordinator, Is OUTSTANDING!! Prior to the adoption, she answered my email inquiries promptly. Also, today I had a concern & once again, my email inquiry was answered promptly by Laura Nguyen. The kittens are PRECIOUS & complete love bugs !!

I adopted the most wonderful dog from this shelter. A purebred dog, that is now my sidekick in life! He had his shots, was chipped & neutered. He's a wonderful guard dog & the best dog I've ever adopted!Yolo Animal Services is the best. The staff knowledgeable, and more than helpful. My next rescue will certainly be from them!

This place is an absolute joke. My wife brought a stray cat we found in the nugget parking lot to surrender so it can get the medical attention it needed. The cat was clearly sick and infested with fleas and other insects. Upon arrival, Erica Vasquez informed my wife rudely of the procedures. If the cat is sick they will take it in, according to Erica, "if the cat is healthy they will just put the car right back on the street because it is legal." They explicitly told my wife THEY DUMP CATS BACK ON THE STREET. This is known per other reviews about this shelter. My wife had the cat in a cage in the car per the shelters request. A "vet" came out, looked at the cat, and determined it was indeed very sick. After going back into the the shelter, Erica rudely sighing, flips through the lost pets binder. My wife informed her that we checked every resource we had to see if the pet was lost to which Erica responded, "not everyone has Facebook, okay!?" Eventually she gave up and handed the binder to someone else because she was "tired" of looking. This is ridiculous and atrocious considering Erica works at an ANIMAL SHELTER. We took the cat to another vet and the vet agreed that the cat was very ill. The cat had fluid in its lungs which was never discovered at the shelter because they didn't even bother to do anything other than to look at the poor cat. We surrendered the cat to UCD to treat and give the medical attention she needs. I will be filing a complaint and utilizing every resource I have to make sure this disgusting treatment never happens to anyone else. I will file as many complaints I can until this shelter is investigated. They were going to let a poor, ill cat die because of one unhelpful, rude front desk associate and a "vet." Don't let this stop you from adopting these animals. Save the animals from this place called a "shelter."

Adopted two kittens, and they’re the best! Facilities can be updated, but I love that the shelter rehomes all the pets they intake.

This is Rusty, aka Roger. Can't imagine life without him. Adoption process was super easy. Best part.....it took only 2 day's for him to use doggie door instead of standing by the front door to be let out. He is so affectionate towards us and our other dog Charlie Staff at the SPCA were so friendly. If you are looking for a dog, PLEASE, go to a shelter before you buy a puppy.

I came here for an adoption event back in the fall. I went to support and see the animals. I was considering adopting an older cat. It was a very busy day and I was glad lots of people came out to check out the animals. I was browsing and watched other people interact with the cats/kittens. There were a lot of kids who wanted kittens, so I observed and there I saw one little who caught my eye. We were playing and a kid was deciding if she wanted him or his sister. I found this little guy super playful, but patiently waited for the little girl to make a decision. Finally, the family decided to leave because she wasn't sure. I got a chance to take him out and he was calm with me and the people said he's been running away all day. I knew he was the one. I didn't think I wanted a kitty, but I decided to take this one home. The process was very easy and they had adoption specials. They provided me with a carrier for a little extra and even a free toy. The process went smoothly and I took him home. He's almost a year old now and I'm glad to have him. He's such a little cuddle bug. Please adopt from a shelter! Many of them need and want love.

They were so helpful with a feral cat we needed help with. We were able to get the cat taken care of and then they gave him back for us to release back to our building at UCDAVIS.
