Melissa is an absolute darling, I came here with my 1.5 year old son for one small thing and Melissa took the time to show my son a bunch of animals! It was really sweet and wholesome especially during this crazy time. Thank you Melissa, we’ll be back!

Stumbled across this by chance while we were passing by the town. We had 6 gallon fish tank for the kid and need some lifely aquatic creatures in it they have decent variety of fresh water fish, water plant and some others necessarily items for your tank. The owners are lovely Im glad there's this place exists so we don't have to drive all the way down south for the tank supplies.

My family and I often stop buy just to see what the critters are up to and staff is always friendly and engaging. Today we came in to build up a starter aquarium. Staff was extremely helpful in suggesting hardy fish pairings, and in select some live and dehydrated foods. They are even happy to test our tanks water should we have any problems. Its great that we have a good ol' fashion petstore to serve the Ukiah and Willits area. Also their birds are so fun!

Pet stores are awful, we all know that. HOWEVER, this pet store is so extremely well taken care of. The owner is really kind and is able to answer more than half of my questions. I usually go in to buy fish and fish supplies, but they also carry birds, reptiles, cats, amphibians, and bunnies/guinea pigs. You can tell the animals are so well taken care of here! If you have doubts you can go at the right time and actually see the feeding hours. Gosh, this store is amazing. It can be a little pricey, but it's because their products are actually GOOD. The prices for the animals are all very reasonable. Recently bought a baby dumpy frog for $60 when everywhere else would've charged me $170. I love this pet store.

Love this place!! Melissa is one of the most genuine big hearted people I've had the pleasure of meeting!! The thought of going to her pet shop always puts a smile on my face. She has a huge selection of both fish and exotics and if she don't have it she's good about ordering it or leading you in the right direction. If your trying to get something for a pet you have or find something new I would definitely recommend stopping in or giving her a call!

Great store, and the only exotic pet store in Mendocino County. Melissa is fantastic and the animals are happy and well-cared for. The birds are hand-raised and super nice. There is always something going on-just stop by and meet some of the big birds. They have big personalities. Avoid those big box stores and come get some expert advice and high quality products.

This woman truly cares about these animals. They are so healthy and so well taken care of. The prices are affordable. The products she sells are of great quality. She was happy to make a special order for me when I needed a product she did not have in store. Overall shopping at Fish out of Water is a unique and genuine experience. I will continue to shop here as often as my pockets will allow.

This place is one of a kind! You can tell that each and every living thing in this place is well taken care of. When you first enter, it feels like you're going into a bird sanctuary. There are so many different types of birds! They have many other types of animals, and even aquariums! This place is great and we highly recommend it!

Absolutely wonderful store. Not only are the birds and reptiles on point (I LOVE snakes), the fish (more my thing) are great. Very knowledgeable and willing to work with you to help you learn more about what you need. Definitely not your typical pet store where they give you want you want, just to sell things. Melissa and her husband genuinely care for every animal and make sure you're setting things up properly. I have 3 90 gallon tanks, a 55, a 7 and a 300! I get all of my fish and plants from here. This store is just as reputable as Cesears, only just starting out. Cant wait to see where they go in the next few years.

I love the pet store. I live in Fort Bragg now but still go over the hill to get what I need for my pets here. Everyone is sooo friendly. Love visiting the birds .I always have to go say hi to all the animals. Furry, feathery,scaily and slithery. It's just a great place to be

Went into this place today with my wife and wasn't greeted by any person but we were greeted by a very friendly cockatoo that was out of his cage and persistently asked us to pick him up so my wife held out her hand and he hopped up and and started cuddling her chest and before I held the bird right next to him I asked the lady who was walking around if all these birds were friendly and she snapped at us rudly about how we had not asked to hold anything which was definitely our fault but the bird was clearly very used to being held and we assumed it was ok to hold a bird that quite literally asked us to and the lady informed us that this particular bird had sent multiple people to the E.R because he bites people which was very surprising to us because he was very sweet but his attitude changed very quickly when this lady approached him to help get him off he got very scared and tried to bite my wife's ear and ended up clamping down on her hair and only let go when the lady went to flick him on the head which was a very bad way to handle a bird. I love the idea of cage free birds but when u have a bird that behaves this unpredictably it becomes very dangerous for your business and for everyone who handles this animal (good thing my wife was raised around aggressive big birds)

The first time I visited was about 2 weeks ago when I won a goldfish from the fair and the owner was friendly. Well I had went in there today to get more fish, for my fish tank. The guy greeted me and helped me and my daughter decide on a fish but it took a turn when they knew I had goldfish. Also, all the pricing on the fish tanks were wrong when I asked the guy about it, he said the new owner increased all the prices but didn’t change the tags yet, which made shopping difficult. They were rude to me about only being able to buy more goldfish and assuming I had only 1 small tank that I had bought there before. It has been 2 weeks and they’re not the only source. They were super unprofessional and rudely questioning me about my tank and how big it was. They didn’t ask nicely, they assumed a lot! I won’t be going there again, Ukiah is worth the drive for me.

Im confused because all other reviews state the owner of this place is a wonderful person. I decided to call and see their policy on holding animals before I headed down there with one of the kids from the foster agency I work for and was greeted with an incredibly rude and unpleasant woman on the phone. Since the animal shelter is no longer open it’s difficult to find places to go for the kids who love animals and I guess this place is off the list. Throwing an extra star in there for the benefit of the doubt that maybe I caught her on an extremely bad day

So lovely seeing the pet store. I got to see it from the ground up and the owner Works hard to keep the animals happy. My favorite place to go for my fish and to see some amazing birds snakes and other animals. She always sets me up right. A must go place while shopping for pet supplies.

The animals are all happy and healthy I bought the fish and birds and also plans as well as other miscellaneous things and they're all still living or all so happy and they're all still healthy the first time I bought anything was in December a year ago and I would recommend this store to anyone that loves and care for their extended family

I stopped by fish out of water today, first time I've ever been there, Ididn't know if they'd be open but I just needed to replace my blue gourami who passed awayThe owner was so helpful and nice. She fixed me right up she didn't have a blue gourami but she did have a paradise gourami which is now safe and sound in my tank. Thanks fish out of water I love your store and I bet your customers for birds and reptiles do as well
