When we finally arrived at the hotel after one heck of a drive. The host was very pleasant. She was extremely informative and very helpful. Our room was on the 2nd floor with a panoramic balcony. We had a gorgeous view of the ocean. The waves crashing all day and night was one of the most relaxing experiences we had. The hot tub in the room was great as well! Not far from the Inn. There is an adorable lighthouse with a quick stroll down to the beach. Tons of sea lions, harbor seal and sea birds reside nearby. All in all great place, great view and a fantastic time!

There is one coffee along the coast. There are no shops or restaurants. The road out to Shelter Cove is step and windy. It has a fishing harbor . It has lost its businesses for it to thrive. If you go, make sure you have gas . One station in the whole town 2 old fashion digital pumps.

I love this Inn! The rooms are wonderfully situated over looking the ocean. Our room had a balcony with chairs to sit and watch the ocean. The room is huge with high vaulted ceilings. The bed is a little more firm than I like, and the pillows could be a little more substantial than thin pancakes. Huge deal? Absolutely not!We could hear the waves crashing and the sea lions down the way. Donna, the inn keeper, was amazing! They have a grill, loaner golf clubs, corn hole and any little supplies you might have forgotten.I can't wait to make my next reservation to this hidden little gem.Rooms: The rooms are wonderfully situated over looking the ocean. The campground store & deli are a little bit further away but still an easy stroll. There are a few overlooks that can be walked to if you are wanting a good stroll.

Amazing experience here before our Lost Coast Trail hike. My husband booked the accessible room by accident and we didn't have much wifi service prior when she was emailing us (we were on another backpacking trip). She upgraded us to a King room and split the difference. What a room, or should I say - WHAT A VIEW! The best I've ever had. Donna was most excellent and the room was so clean and more modern than expected. I only wish we could have stayed longer. Gyppos for beer and the deli were both a hop away and were awesome too.

We absolutely loved staying at the Inn. We were in room 24, which has a fantastic view of the ocean and a jetted tub that was so nice to climb into after a long day. Donna was very friendly and helpful. I love staying so close to the ocean and I'm familiar with the wear and tear that happens when a property is subject to constant humidity, salt, etc; you can tell this property is lovingly cared for as they battle the elements. Room was clean, the bed comfortable, the location remote and peaceful. Exceeded our expectations.

This place is an absolute gem. The location is literally ON THE CLIFF overlooking the Pacific seashore, where crashing waves and barking seals create an incredible atmosphere. The room was one of the cleanest I've ever experienced, and the staff were definitely the friendliest I've dealt with in my travels. I plan to return to this secluded little spot in this tiny, quiet town. I absolutely recommend booking a stay.Walkability: Within a short walk, there is a small store, the local brewpub, and at least one more eatery.

love love love this inn. We stayed in the king with spa bath and it was absolutely perfect. The room is spacious and the views breathtaking. We watched seals and otters from our balcony. There are tide pool right outside the inn to explore and perfect view for the sunset. The inn keeper is friendly and knowledgeable of the area. We will be back.

One word - Donna! This woman is an incredible host.I found myself stranded in Shelter Cove for the night on account of a flat tire after getting off the LCT. Not only did Donna set me up with a room at a discounted price, she literally got under my van and helped me to fix my flat. True hero!Hyperbole aside, the room was clean, the location was ideal, and the service was outstanding!Thank you Donna!5 Stars!

The drive down to Shelter Cove is a bit nerve-wracking, especially in December when there are spots of ice on the road; but it's well worth it. It was quiet and peaceful, and the views of the ocean were stunning. The lady behind the desk was responsive when we had an issue with the heater and got us an additional space heater that helped us stay cozy and warm. The jacuzzi bathtub in the very spacious room also helped with that. The room has standard amenities as well: keurig coffee maker, microwave, fridge, wifi, and so on. The top floor room was worth the extra cost to have the huge vaulted ceilings and the big balcony overlooking the beach with seals and sea lions.

Omg, this place is stunning! I loved my apartment - lots of space, comfy bed, and loft ceilings. And best of all the ocean view is breathtaking. I kept the door open all night to hear the calming sound of waves crashing on the shore with sea lions making their tunes off in the distance. And the staff are so friendly and helpful. I’m definitely recommending to friends and coming back!

This place is great!! My wife and I totally stumbled upon it by accident. We explored the lost coast during the "off season" apparently, so we were pretty much the only guests at the hotel. That being said, they upgraded us to the presidential suite with no extra cost. The room was comfy and very clean. It even had a hot tub in the unit! And the VIEW was stellar. Its right off the ocean shore with the most unique and beautiful scenery. Hands down. The employees we met were very welcoming and friendly. Best hotel I've ever stayed at. We feel very blessed to have stumbled upon Shelter Cove. Cheers!

We loved our stay here! Not sure why Google Maps calls this 2-star--it should be 3- or 4-star. This is a very small inn with no-contact check-in (pick up an envelope with your room key in a mailbox outside the office). So we never met any staff. Our room was clean, newly updated, spacious, and very comfortable. The views were spectacular--we left the door to the balcony open to hear the waves. This was the most peaceful place we stayed during our northern California roadtrip - a great place to relax. The lighthouse, Gyppo's Ale House, and the RV park store and deli are all a short walk away. Other restaurants and sights (e.g., the black sand beaches) are a good mile or so away.A touch we appreciated--we received an up-to-date list of restaurants open in Shelter Cove with the days and hours they were open. Some were operating on reduced schedules because of staffing shortages, so this was a thoughtful touch.Note that there is no elevator, but the inn can accommodate guests who can't manage stairs. Also note that phone and wifi are uneven--we usually got no phone signal off-site, and the hotel wifi sometimes went down for a bit. Small price to pay for the pleasure of being in Shelter Cove.

Absolutely beautiful. The staff was so friendly and easy to talk to. Very down to earth. The jacuzzi inside the room was amazing and they even provided some bath salts and a rubber ducky to go inside. Super cute. Water got hot quickly and jets were lovely. We were on the third floor and the room had vaulted ceilings. View was great and the beach below was easy to access :)

The stay here was beautiful. Our view of the ocean was amazing. Right outside the patio. The room is beautiful, vaulted ceiling for third floor, with a amazing jacuzzi to boot in the room. Spacious and the owner was extremely helpful. Has very adorable dogs too. Felt like a home, not a hotel, and that's what matters on trips.

PROS: Amazing place - how is it possible to not give a great rating to a place that has a balcony that overlooks the ocean with a small rocky cove? Unfortunately, there was fog the entire stay, but that's a complaint I took up with our Creator. The hotel gave great instructions on the area and what to expect. Check in was a simple sign and pick up my door code. The room was clean and was more than satisfactory. You are paying for the view, not a luxury room, although it was great.CONS: Place is getting old and beginning to fall apart. Cracks in the ceiling, outside is in need of repair, the sliding door to the balcony was very hard to open and close because the framing has warped from all the moisture. Upkeep must be a nightmare with this place being on the ocean, I don't envy the task, but it is showing signs. The inside was still clean and comfortable, just don't expect a 5-star rated hotel.

We hate to give a review of a place that we would love to keep secret - however, Donna & Dale went above and beyond to make our stay awesome. The inn was cozy and extremely clean. Our ocean front room with a full moon and crashing waves was breathtaking. It was a quiet and comfortable atmosphere and the new restaurant was delicious and had great coffee. We will certainly be back soon!

This hotel is a gem! My husband and I came here for our honeymoon and we fell in love. We stayed here and drove in to explore the avenue of the giants and hike in Humboldt state park. The town is adorable and gyppo brewery and the coffee shop were amazing! The innkeeper was so kind and even left us a bottle of champagne and chocolates since it was our honeymoon! We had a jacuzzi tub in our room which was incredible and the views are just breathtaking. We can’t stop raving about this adorable town and we will definitely be back sometime.

The accommodations were as they described. It was a King Room with an Ocean View. My room was on the third floor. It had the usual amenities - Wi-Fi, satellite TV, a mini-fridge, coffee maker, blow dryer, and a microwave. It’s unfortunate that the room doesn’t have a kitchen but it doesn’t really matter, except that I came during the beginning of the week so most of the places to eat were closed. It’s a good thing I brought some food and snacks with me (The Shelter Cove General Store is nearby). Donna, who was one of the innkeepers, was very helpful and accommodating. My room was literally by the beach and so: 1) It does get kinda noisy at night with the waves crashing (and the wind was howling last night); 2) There were flies, good thing not mosquitoes, but if you leave the door open they could go in the room, which leads me to; 3) The flies will get in the room. I wish they had a screen door along with the sliding door to prevent the flies from getting in while letting the breeze in, and; 4) It got hot in the room. It’s west-facing so the sun warmed up the room, but I can’t open the door (see #3).All in all though, it was a pleasant stay.

A hidden gem. We stayed in the one bedroom apartment and could not have been more pleased. The apartment is spacious with amazing ocean views. we sat and watched whales while our toddler took a nap. We were also pleasantly surprised to see our bill was less than expected. Great family owned atmosphere in a beautiful location.

Lovely room, nice and quiet. The jacuzzi was welcome after a day of Beach combing. Take out is hard to come by. There is a little coffee shop and a pizza place at another inn about a mile up the beach. Both were good. The general store was surprisingly well stocked. The views were amazing!
