Our absolute favorite place to stay and relax. The rooms are very spacious and clean. Our most recent room had a full kitchen with pots, pans, utensils, etc. that allowed us to cook a full dinner on our first night. The breathtaking view of the ocean really provides a unique, calming and relaxing experience, not to mention romantic. Customer service was also excellent, we were able to communicate through text and responses were very quick.Rooms: Large and spacious, very clean.Nearby activities: A delicious Cafe only a few steps from our room.Beaches and restaurants near by, along with small general store for basic needs.

We have been staying for 20+ years for an annual anniversary trip. The recently renovated Black Sands Inn has been such an improvement. We love that they are now pet friendly. Views are fantastic and accommodations are very clean and comfortable. If you choose to visit you will also fall in love with “The Cove”. It is spectacular!

Okay, so it was last August I came here, which was a while ago, but I am catching up on my reviews and wanted to give my positive review of this lovely place. Honestly, if you want to feel like you are away from it all, this is the place. The beach feels so wild, and you can spot seals and sea lions from your balcony. The rooms have a great style, and the hot tub is 🔥. Dream of coming back to this place ❤️

We stayed in room 9. Great view! Cute apartment but they lack in maintenance. Cute little town. Nice people. But...this was advertised as a 2 bedroom. It is not. Its a 1 bedroom with a sleeper sofa in the living room. Patio chairs very wobbly. Felt unsafe. Electric fireplace remote did not work. No instructions how to use anything. Bed frame sounds like it's broken. Dishwasher didn't work. Or at least we couldn't figure out how to work it. The obvious did not work. The porch light shines into bedroom. Had to unscrew the bulb. Nice coffee maker but they had the wrong filters and only provide k cups and 4-5 creamer packs for 2 people for 3 days. Luckily, we brought our own coffee and supplies. They left us a used sponge for the kitchen sink and the soap dispenser was broken. The drive is treacherous. Drive during daylight! If you know these issues ahead of time and prepare yourself I guess the view is worth it. It could be so much more if a little thought and effort went into simple maintenance. And to top it off, someone decided to start a huge burn pile right outside our kitchen window. It was so smokey we couldn't open the patio doors for one of the days we were there. It was still burning when we left. Host was made aware of everything and offered $50 reimbursement that we never received. Will not return.

I would have given 5 stars but the heater wouldn't work and no one is onsite. We looked up the smart heater online and found the washable filter was dirty after cleaning it the heater worked. Other than that beautiful spot with awesome views and pretty clean room with comfy beds also hot tub right in the water was a good touch.

We really had such a great time here. The view is a dream and so peaceful, we saw the sunset at night and enjoyed sunrise with coffee in the morning. We grabbed pizza from Delgada (very tasty!) and enjoyed the fire outside in the evening. The beds are VERY comfortable. We hiked all day and coming back to them was just what we needed. We also were offered covered parking since we were driving a compact car. They have smart TVs, a fun fireplace inside our room and it’s always nice when make up towels are offered for make up removal.Noteworthy details: Please plan to arrive before sun-down! We aren’t used to driving on windy roads, and it was a little difficult for us in the dark.

This place is beautiful! The rooms were clean and comfortable and the fireplace added a nice touch. The view out our deck door was spectacular and we loved hearing the crashing waves it’s a short walk from the lighthouse which was closed but we had fun watching all the seal, sea lions and even a river otter just down the hill. We ate fish and chip, pizza, took a walk along the black sands beach and really enjoyed our time in Shelter Cove.

Attentive, responsive. Easy check-in/out. Super comfortable bed. Very clean. Amazing views. Note: pay attention to the website statement about not driving in at night. If you are short on brake pads beware. The drive once you get off 101 is a challenge: narrow, steep, winding, no paint/street lighting, sheer cliffs in places. It’s slow going and doable (and worth it once you get there), but even with engine braking we could smell hot brakes on arrival. If you have vertigo I would not recommend it. Took about an hour from 101. On the coast so obviously windy. Had a nice dinner at the local brewery, Gyppo Ale House. Slept like babies.

Avoid Room 9 - very bright fluorescent lights shine into your bedroom even with the "blackout" curtains (see photo). These bright lights are on all night. The bed slats also seem to crack when you sit on the bed, and the first time it happens you think the bed is going to break.Avoid Room 1 - you have to enter it through some sort of communal area that's dirty, smells, and is unkept. The code is broken so you have to use a lockbox with a key.Note: any time you try to contact management via phone you are met with people who obviously aren't local but a hired customer service line. Why? Because no one is at the inn to help if needed. It is extremely frustrating as it's more of a hassle to even try to get something fixed. When in the small town of Shelter Cove again, I would much rather stay at an inn with owners/employees on site. There is also a massive concrete slab/old parking lot directly behind the inn with a fence around it. There is no parking lot, so you park along that fence and then you must text them your license number so your car does't get towed. Conclusion: The view is beautiful, but I wouldn't stay here again.

Absolutely adored this place! My husband and I were on a two week road trip and ended our stay in Shelter Cove! Our host communicated from the moment we walked in. The place was stunning, clean, and so inviting. The views cannot be beat! I feel so grateful to have had such a beautiful place with ocean views! We will most certainly be back! Thank you!

This spot is absolutely gorgeous and directly on the water. The small suite with a balcony was a perfect getaway for a writing retreat. I enjoyed the hot tub in the early mornings which also happened to be when no one else was using it. Gyppo Ale Mill is a short walk away for a tasty dinner and beer. The beach is just steps away. I could see whales spouting, saw bald eagles and osprey down at the cove along the bluffs, and got in some paddleboarding, too. Bring your binoculars to get a good look at all the marine mammals and birds!

We stayed at the Black Sands Inn prior to the renovation. It is the most awesome location right on the coast--you hear the crashing waves from the room and can sit outside and enjoy the sunset, moon, and wildlife along with the beautiful ocean and coast. I look forward to seeing how nice is it after renovation if they have availability on our next visit to Shelter Cove.

I stayed at the Black Sands Inn before the renovations with family and friends for many years. It is our favorite accommodation in Shelter Cove. It offers gorgeous views and is within walking distance of tide pools, the beach, the little store and restaurants. Watching the sunsets and the occasional whale add to the magic. I look forward to experiencing the recent renovations.
