Our stay was magic. When searching for a place to stay we wanted it to be dog friendly, close to the beach, private, affordable/ obtainable, and the Howard Creek Ranch provided all! We stayed at the Sea View Cabin for a long weekend. The hosts Sunny and Sally were more than accommodating and very fun to have an excellent breakfast with every morning. The hot tub was where we spent most of our time, overlooking the ocean, watching humming birds come and go, and the stars at night. The outdoor kitchen was a great space for making meals. Fast WiFi to check weather. The big deck was great for lounging. The cabin has a nice grassy area and lots of room for our puppo to run around. We will definitely be returning and have already recommended this place to our friends. The dog friendly beach is walkable and fairly secluded, we were the only ones when we went. Westport has an excellent restaurant for dinner and drinks and a convenient store where we got charcoal, smoked salmon, ice and sausages. Veggies from nye ranch and you have a meal. Can’t wait to hang with sunny and Sally again and create more memories.

This place is amazing!!! I will definitely be coming back!! The price is absolutely amazing, so cheap and yet you get so much foe it! There's a fun swinging bridge, you can walk to the beach and watch the sunset, there's cats and a dog and chickens! And, my favorite part, it gets so dark you can actually see the milky way! Breakfast was delicious! The bed was so comfortable. I'm 100% coming back and bringing my husband with me!

My wife and I stayed in the Seaview cabin for our 1st wedding anniversary (we’re in our early sixties)! We’ve never stayed in such a peaceful, magical environment…The best ocean view you could ever hope for! The cabin is rustic but comfortable! Sonny and Sally are friendly and easer to share all they have. We will definitely be returning. Also, great dinners can be had in Westport at the Old Abalone Pub. If you love adventure, nature and peace this is your place!

Genuinely unique gem of a location mere feet away from Black Sands Beach. Breakfast is served on the outdoor second floor balcony/patio with gorgeous panoramic views. From my lovely girlfriend "This place is so cozy we never want to leave. The hosts were so warm and welcoming. The house is so unique and beautiful. Being able to hear the sounds of the wave at night gave us the best sleep. The jacuzzi was relaxing and peaceful. The kitty outside greets us everytime wanting more cuddles. We could not have asked for a more perfect stay. We hope to visit again sometime day!"

My Pupper and I, have had the BEST time here. There is NOTHING more than I can ask for. The service is ridiculously fantastic. The grounds are well maintained. I arrived around 10pm, and I was able to follow the directions (in total darkness) to my AMAZING suite. I love it so much here that I extended my stay an extra night. Within minutes of calling to ask for a blow dryer, I had one. I asked for help with the patio grill and before we hung up I had someone here to help me. The Walden room is fantastic. I could not ask for more. Rustic, yet extremely comfortable. Beautiful antiques in my room. So peaceful here.

This was my second visit. Everything was perfect! We also had breakfast every morning. Homemade everything. French toast with banana syrup, blueberry bran muffins and fluffy eggs Florentine. And of course, the waves crashing to shore only a few hundred feet away! The flower gardens were enchanting with at least 20 varieties of lovely and fragrant flowers. We shall return!

Howard Creek Ranch is like no other place. It’s not a place to stay, it’s an experience. I go there for the feeling it gives me. Peace, freedom, contentment. The open space, the isolation and history of this place feels like it belongs to you for your stay. The ocean feels like it belongs to you. That is a rare thing to find for the price of a room. It’s a working ranch, not a luxury hotel. There is much beauty and hospitality here and there are warts and rusty tractors. Sonny and Sally are as unique as their property, and if you get the chance to hear Sonny sing you’d think Ray Charles had returned! I love crossing the footbridge to the farmhouse to share a delicious, hardy breakfast with other travelers. It’s such a warm feeling to sit at their table. I love opening the doors at the Beach House and watching and feeling the ocean. This quirky gem is not for everyone but I will always cherish the times I’ve spent there.

My partner and our wolf dog stayed in the meadow cabin. Wonderfully private tucked behind the check-in house. With a jacuzzi tub outside and a standing shower. Wood stove was amazing. They had the house warm when we arrived. The kitchen is sparce holding just a few bowls cups and plates. No inside cooking besides microwave - but has a decent fridge. Charcoal barbecue in the backyard though with coal and foil available. Recommend bringing a camp stove and some pans and knives for sure. Aside from all of the the caretakers were wonderful and our stay was glorious will go back in the future. Oh and the beach walk only takes a minute but be aware of tide schedule which is available there. Have fun!!!!

I went memorial day weekend with my daughter and husband, we wished we didn't have to come home and now that we're back home we just want to go back to the ranch. This isn't a 5 star hotel with shops and malls and constant phone service but what you do get is a beautiful ranch full of history and nature at every turn. The staff is also amazing. I want a big shout out to Sue and her son John for really taking care of us and making our stay so much more memorable and enjoyable. They were so helpful about finding things to do and we definitely can't wait to visit again and see everyone.

The place has magic vibe! So unique and authentic. The house inside full of old things that got a new life, old renovated furniture, toys, lamps, instruments, books, dishes, painting. The smell of old wood and ocean behind the window, soooo relaxing .Beautiful getaway if you cherish the history and appreciate value of life.Ps: I had to take our kids (12 and 19) with us, last moment plans change, they had a great time too.

Heaven awaits! I reeeeally enjoyed my stay at Howards Creek Ranch.I only stayed 1 night driving thru (with my co-pilot 🐶) but wish it was longer! I can't stop thinking about the quality of my time there. Sally & staff are AMAZING!Can you say self-care?? This is the perfect spot to decompress for a few days. No (Verizon) cell signal forces you to appreciate what this place can give your senses, your soul. Outdoor tub with unlimited hot water & view of the ocean from my room were enough to make me fall in love with Howards Creek Ranch.Bring your face masks, mani-pedi kit, some music, and a good book.

Thank you Dear Sonny And Sally for building such place.

Eclectic inn in a converted barn. All the work was done by the owners since the 70s. Short walk to the beach or take a longer walk up the hill to a redwood grove on the property. The room had all we needed. Wished they had been allowed to do breakfast. We stayed in the Redwood Suite for our 20th anniversary. Great place to unplug and unwind.

Checked into the Octagon room. The kitchen, bathroom (with swing doors) and shower were all outside. Someone's bathing suit had been left in the room. There was a huge spiderweb above the bed and another one above the shower. We killed 20 spiders (not exaggerating!) with the can of Raid someone had left. A half empty bottle of mouthwash had been left in the bathroom and other personal hygiene products were left in the shower (deodorant, face wash, etc.) We ended up sleeping in our car it was so gross. I can handle old and funky, but spiders everywhere and it not being clean is a deal breaker, especially in a pandemic. Thankfully we were able to find another hotel nearby in Fort Bragg for the remainder of our trip. I'm honestly shocked at the positive reviews. This place should not be in business.

This place is full of magic, whimsy, art, and antiques; my husband and I absolutely loved it! Friendly, interesting, and caring people run this House-on-the-Rock-ian (if you know, you know) costal CA gem! It isn't for everyone but for us the atmosphere far outweighed (and was even in part created by) the rustic and antique elements. If you're looking for an antiseptic stay full of modern amenities this isn't the place. If you're looking for something rustic and different, this is it!

This a very unique and interesting to stay. It is close to Sinkyone Wilderness State Park southern enterance for Usal Beach. Over all I would award this place 4.5 stars. The location awesome since its north of Fort Bragg. This room has a hot tub. Never thought I would enjoy having a outdoors shower so much. Please note when the staff tell you need to bring stuff to BBQ, they mean Briquettes. This room does not have a stove top..

Go. Just go here to go back to a simple, better life. Breakfast is outstanding. The place itself is old and at first intimidating but when we woke in the morning we wanted to stay another night. It's hard to put into words what it is about this place; it is just unique and refreshing. When you read the journals in the rooms they all echo the same sentiment. You just need to go here. Stayed in the Redwood Suite (the Sun Room is pictured below) and it was wonderful; homey, intimate, familiar and yet somehow completely unique. I could spend a week here exploring not only this place but the surrounding area. Bravo Sally and Sonny.

Great locations around the inn. There is a direct walk to the beach. Plenty of viewing spots near by. The inn is however old and not in the best condition. The rooms were well kept but old. The bed was sank in between and was very uncomfortable. Please buy plenty of food and groceries since the store in the Nearby town is pricey.

We stayed here 15 years ago..maybe longer?? It was very nice. There was a fellow who entertained us with his guitar and we had a good dinner. We stopped by today but no one was there but the cat..so I pet the cat for awhile then left...

Forest to the east, beach that you can see from the property and walk to in under 10min. Artistic buildings and rooms at a property filled with history. Wonderful hosts! I seriously feel like this place walked out of a novel. (Plus the wifi, despite being in the middle of nowhere, was good enough for remote working.)

Private beach access. Unique and eclectic historical buildings. The sheep are nice. Beautiful grounds, lovely garden, and hiking trail access. The kind of place where you can go to write, paint, or think. It might be too rustic for those who are overly pampered. My wife and I have stayed here twice, and we loved it.

Had a relaxing time here. The grounds are just beautiful with many many Flowers and plants. The walk to the beach is a hop and a skip away. The breakfast is all homemade and so delicious. Defiantly will be coming back and never staying in a hotel in fort bragg again.

It was promised to have clean rooms. As we walked into our musty smelling aged room the cobwebs hit me in the face! Spiders were actually in the sheets! It's unforgivable how many living spiders with their webs intact were in my space with my children. The smell of old wet wood might be great to some. But not me. We bought 2 candles to mask the odor. The bathroom was so small. I'm a tad overweight. Not obese. But the shower was so small with mildew in the creases. Too small for the $300 a night I was spending! This place is over priced glamping at best!I'll never go back andI'll make sure no one I know goes there either.

Let me start off by stating how much I love the property and our stay there. From the landscape, to the lovely staff, to the gorgeous views from all around the property, even down to the coffee (which is the best coffee I have ever had). I had a great time with my husband, and would love to go back again someday. I loved all the lovely animals that just roamed around and found this place to be magical. My only problem, which was a big one was the room. We stayed in the Captain's Quarters, which is advertised to be a large room with panoramic windows, along with your own private entrance and dining area. It was great the first night because it felt like we had our own little private corner of this amazing house. But that quickly changed as the weekend passed. I felt deceived by the advertising of this room because one night, we had people walk up and down the stairs of our "private entrance" four times. I was sitting there in my pajamas and this creepy old man just stood there, breathing heavily, watching me and my husband play chess... not once, but TWICE!!! And to top it all off, he kept leaving our door to our "private dining area" open whilst I was there in my pajamas.I asked my husband to lock the door to this private entrance as I turned the lights off to gives these clueless guests a hint.SLAM!! I get rudely woken up a little before 7am by someone closing the door to OUR private entrance.I would love to go back there again, but I will never stay in the Captain's Quarters ever again. The Meadow Cabin is the same price, and the Beach house is just a little more per night and you are truly away from the main house. I would recommend staying in those before opting in for the Captain's Quarters. And to the owners, please put up a sign at that private entrance that it is the Captain's Quarters along with that big wooden door that leads to the room. If it isn't private, I would recommend taking that off the website and your brochure because it wasn't fair to have strangers entering our room on what was supposed to be a romantic/relaxing getaway.

Howard Creek is a great, unique, eclectic bed and breakfast. No tv's or phones in the rooms, no cell signal, it is a great place to disconnect. Sally and Sonnie make this place unique and fun. Breakfast is served at the dinning room table with the other guests in the 100 year old Ranch House. There is nothing Fancy or pretentious about this place, so don't expect a 5 star resort.

Rustic, charming, historic and eclectic, this B&B is not for everyone - and that's perfect for the rest of us!!! If you are looking for crisp white sheets, big screen TV, HBO and all the channels, don't come here. We will be getting our shoes muddy walking to the beach, listening to the frog chorus and waves, saying hello to the hens and on-site rodent control (multiple cats), walking the gardens, moving the banana slug of the window and playing gin rummy while the "hot tub" fills. Oh, and eating a huge homemade breakfast that isn't on a diet. After multiple visits over almost 13 years, it's still one of my favorite places. I just wish it were not so far away.

Delightful quaint buildings, rooms and dining room for breakfast. The setting is breathtakingly gorgeous - a veritable Paradise with a creek running into the ocean cradled by ginormous wattle, oak and Aspen trees. Lovely innkeepers welcome one home.
