This place is a MUST for anyone visiting the Redwoods! It’s like traveling back to a time when you come face to face with this mega flora. We walk the Founders Grove loop which is a nice easy walk (not paved) through literal giants! The trail was easy enough for my young kids to complete.

Great drive, about 30 miles, you will have to get out of 101 and get onto the Avenue of Giants. Try to make it during the day when there is abundant sunlight, else it gets dark for pictures due to the tree cover / shade.

Humboldt Redwoods State Park is a natural wonder located in Humboldt County, California, and it stands as a testament to the grandeur and ecological significance of the Coastal Redwood forests. Here are some historical details and significant facts about this remarkable park:1. Ancient Giants: Humboldt Redwoods State Park is home to some of the world's tallest and oldest trees. The park boasts numerous groves of towering Coastal Redwoods, including the famous Founders Tree, which is estimated to be around 3,000 years old.2. Preservation Efforts: The park's creation is intertwined with conservation efforts. In the early 20th century, there was a growing concern about the destruction of these ancient trees due to logging. As a response, the Save-the-Redwoods League, established in 1918, played a pivotal role in acquiring and preserving the land that would become Humboldt Redwoods State Park.3. Immense Biodiversity: The park isn't just about the redwoods; it also features diverse ecosystems, including oak woodlands, meadows, and river habitats. This biodiversity supports a range of wildlife, including black bears, river otters, and countless bird species.4. Avenue of the Giants: One of the most famous features of the park is the Avenue of the Giants, a 31-mile scenic drive that winds through towering redwoods. It offers numerous opportunities for picnicking, hiking, and exploring the ancient groves.5. Visitor Centers: The Humboldt Redwoods State Park Visitor Center provides informative exhibits about the park's history, ecology, and conservation efforts. It's an excellent starting point for visitors looking to learn more about this natural wonder.6. Recreational Activities: Beyond awe-inspiring tree gazing, the park offers a range of recreational activities such as hiking, camping, fishing, swimming, and even kayaking on the Eel River.7. Preservation and Education: The park is not only a haven for nature enthusiasts but also a place dedicated to environmental education and research. It plays a crucial role in studying and preserving these ancient trees and their ecosystems for future generations.Humboldt Redwoods State Park is not just a place of immense natural beauty but also a testament to the dedication of conservationists and the enduring splendor of these ancient redwoods. It continues to inspire visitors with its awe-inspiring trees and the rich history of preservation efforts that have allowed these giants to thrive.

This was awesome, Def one of the highlights of our trip. A very surreal experience being amongst the trees. Everyone was super nice and helpful and the displays were informative and interesting. It was a beautiful drive, clean facilities, overall a must see if you are anywhere in the vicinity.Restrooms: The restrooms at the visitor center are normal flush toilets as opposed to the ones in the park which are very clean considering they are holes in the ground.Dog-friendliness: Nothing except service dogs allowed in the parks or on the grounds

Loved camping here! It’s in a second growth forest, but I thought the trees were so impressive. Right off the Avenue of Giants, the drive to and from does not disappoint. The road is quiet at night, so you don’t deal with traffic noise. Hot showers, clean restrooms, and spickets for easy water access!

Stayed at the Hidden Springs campsite in spot 12 and 14. Spot 12 was mostly directly in the sun while spot 14 was mostly shade. Both were close to the shower/restrooms. The park was amazing, would definitely recommend.Restrooms: Restrooms were clean

This spot was so beautiful. Have you ever wanted to feel like a fairy for a day? Well, after two different vacations I have now seen all the red wood groves in California. My husband and I decided to travel to California to see the Pacific Coast on Hwy. 1. I am very impressed with the amount of people involved with preserving the trees. The forest rangers were friendly and well informed on the area. The drive through the groove was on smooth black top road. Watch out for the photographers set up along the road. These trees will make you feel very small.

Loved this park along the avenue of the giants. Did a few of the hikes along the way. We did not have to pay for this park. Went in April during the week but looks like it would get very busy in high season. Visitor center is really well done.Restrooms: Restrooms at the visitors center.

If you love camping and nature then this is the perfect place for you. There are plenty of camping soace available. The redwood trees are very beautiful. There's a forest across the camping site where you can take pictures. Just be careful coming here especially when it's getting dark. You might drain the battery of your phone and might get lost without gps.Restrooms: Restrooms are available.Dog-friendliness: Definitely dog friendly.Picnic area: Can have picnic near the camp site.

Fantastic park, I loved it, the trees are huge and tall, some of them are more than 2,000 years old and this is amazing! We enjoyed just walking between these giants, listening to the birds and the rare gusts of wind. Sunrise in the forest is amazing. Recommend!

Was a great experience! The air smelt fresh. Very little traffic in the park. On the road I only saw a few cars over at one time. The Avenue of the Giants was amazing. I highly recommend it. There are plenty of trails to do inside the park. The ones we did, did not have much elevation change. The scenery was so beautiful. there were quite a few different types of wildflowers blooming. They’re nothing like they are in Southern California right now but they were very pretty. This summer bridges have not been installed so crossing the river was not possible at this time of year. just in case you’re wondering the drive-through trees are not inside the park to my knowledge. They are on private property.

I'm going to tell you right now...the pictures you see are NOTHING compared to seeing these trees in person. The size, seeing them move as you look up and sound they make are truly amazing. Being surrounded by nature like this is a real way to just relax and connect with the planet. We just went down the Avenue of the Giants and pulled off at the different trails. Next time I'm definitely going to reserve a space for my RV and stay longer. I can see this as being another one of my favorite places in California!

This place has some of the biggest Redwoods you'll see on the coast. It also has a great array of tours and talks for families or anyone who wants to learn more about the parks. Avenue of the Giants is a staple and Volunteers give excellent ideas of places to stop along the way. There is even a Giant Sequoia and a Dawn Redwood right outside the VC. didn't see the campgrounds but the grounds and activities were wonderful!

The Park rangers were helpful. The campsite was superb. You have to pay to use the shower, but it's worth it. And, to top it off, the Redwoods were both humbling and amazing. I'd go again, and camping isn't even my thing

I went down the Avenue of Giants and this place is definitely awe-inspiring. It's very scenic and beautiful. I don't know if I was lucky or what but I got to experience sun, cloud, rain, and hail. Definitely stop by the visitor center. You can learn a lot about the different types of redwoods, different types of animals, and history of all the little towns along the Avenue of Giants there. Plus, the visitor center has free coffee and tea!
