Like everyone says, there is a train that passes by the camp, on the mountainside, and we're in the valley.Plenty of things to do, if you are creative: You can stalk wildlife, identify plants, go to the river (which is not shallow at the time of this writing), and go to the nearby town which is ¼ of a mile (0.402336 kilometers) to the west, north-west.There were several boy scouts, so I do believe that the campsites were left better then found. All around good place to take the kids, especially if you like no cell reception.Playground: No playground, unless you tell them to scale the oaksRestrooms: The restrooms were clean.Dog-friendliness: Good places to let the dog sniffPicnic area: Plenty of tables.

For the light sleepers, the train could be a problem. I personally loved hearing the train pass by at night. The river is amazing! My dog finally got over his fear of swimming. I suggest water shoes, as the rocks can be quite slippery. The camp sites were nice. We had 3 deer pass by on the wooded side of our site, so keep your eyes open. Food locker was large enough to fit our 3 coolers, storage bin, and our grill. Firepit really needed to be emptied but no big deal. Be sure the take the trail to the store. It's a nice walk and there is a little western "town" at the end. Showers are $2 for 4 minutes and up from there. Bring plenty of quarters since mine didn't turn on until $2.50. Only real down side was battling the mosquitos and the meat bees. But that is to be expected when camping!

My wife and I stayed on campsite #1. It was our first time camping and our experience was pleasurable. Stayed for 3 nights over a weekend and the Camp host Joe was awesome. Joe is very accommodating and friendly. He enjoys conversations as you get to know him. He made our stay memorable. The bathrooms were very clean and the showers felt good. The river is at walking distance and there are swimming areas a short drive away. The Only negative thing I can say about the location is the noise. The highway is close by so you hear cars passing by, there are helicopters repairing power lines, and a train passes by frequently. I'm a city guy so I didn't mind it too much. I will definitely return in the future. Thank you Joe for a memorable experience! Marvin and Julissa Echeverria, RN, BSN

Reading some of the previous reviews, I was a bit shocked at how host Joe did not honor reservations. Well, host Joe is no longer there, but host Manny is! Manny is a delight yo be around. He verified who we were and what site we reserved as well as everyone around us. When people pulled in with no reservations, he directed them to a nearby site that could accommodate them. He also kept the campground and bathrooms super clean. We stayed in site 17 which was a perfect site! We will definitely be back, especially if Manny is still the host!!!

Loved this campground. Quiet except on Saturday night. Be sure to reserve your spots ahead of time.Clean bathrooms, sweet campground hosts, nice paved road & walkways. When using the on-site showers, be sure to insert the quarters SLOWLY! There are NO soap or paper towel dispensers in bathrooms.Access to the river was nice and close. Be aware that the river level fluctuates and what is ankle deep one hour can change into knee or waist deep the next depending on the releases from the hydro plants.Firewood is for sale at the camp host site, $7 a bundle. The store is a short hike along the path/trail.Non electric site is $25 a night. Electric sure is $32 a night. All in all, it was quiet, it was relaxing, it was good spot.Definitely going back again!!

My family and I loved this campground. Site #15 we just stayed nearly a week. Checked out on Tuesday. Joe the host has an eccentric personality. He was so welcoming and fun! He chatted and chats with Everyone visiting on the campground. He was so Accomodating with my whole family and some that came 8 hours away to visit. We will be back soon in the next couple weeks. Thank you Joe!!

The campground host, Joe, is quite a character and very supportive of families. He truly cares and is helpful to the campers. The facilities were clean and the creek was nice to cool off in and explore. Just a short hike to the Twain Store where the people there are nice as well.

Site specific reservations are not honored here, so don't expect to get the site you've booked. I usually enjoy train sounds, but this is a pretty awful metal on metal screeching sound that lasts several minutes, as the trains that pass through are quite long. The train is quite close, so you can hear it very well. Campground is a very quick walk to the river, but it isn't a very nice part of the river, as this spot has a ton of algae and not much shore line. My kids didn't mind and the water was shallow and warm in July. We saw a snake, crawdads, and lots of little fish. It doesn't cool off much at night Bathrooms were clean. Campground was very quiet during quiet hours. The camphost is a conspiracy theorist who was incredibly rude to the multiple parties I saw ask about there being other people in their reserved sites. He made disparaging remarks about people who wear masks. Without the train and a different camphost, I'd say this is a decent campground; unfortunately, as is, I can think of a lot of other campgrounds where I'd rather camp.

Nothing smells as good as the mix of western cedar and Sierra granite. This place has it in abundance. The campsites were clean, spacious, and the flush toilets and shower room were an added bonus. You wont regret staying here for certain.

My all time favorite location to camp in Plumas. The camp host is wonderful- very nice man. He helped us with taking our trash to the dumpster and helped set up a tent when I was struggling. The only downside is there’s a very loud train that comes and goes at all hours of the night. After awhile, it can be tuned out, but you’re literally under the tracks practically. The campsite is clean and one of the smaller ones which I like. It’s has bathroom stalls, not portable toilets, quarter showers and walking distance to a calm river to wade in while you enjoy an afternoon cocktail. We go every year

Wow! This campround is a hidden gem! Located on the Feather river I was able to try my hand at gold panning. I had no luck but a little boy who was with his dad discovered a nugget, $50-100 is what someone said. They have clean modern restrooms and private hot showers as well. The campsites each have a pic-nick table, an approved fire ring, and a huge food locker or bear box. Many of the campsites have electrical hookups and more than a few were wheelchair accessable. I was able to use my cell phone here which I can't always do in the National Forest. There is a little country store just a stones throw away and a nice trail through the woods to it,they have beer and more. There is plenty to do like fishing, hiking, swimming, rock-climbing, kayaking, relaxing and of course gold panning. If you like trains (and I do) you can hear the whistle blow but in a nice way. Very easy access from highway 70. What a great place to kick it and relax. I was able to see a Bald Eagles nest as well as deer and wild turkeys. Oh yeah there is a lot going on in the area from concerts to kayak flotillas and Volkswagen van doing of some sort to name a few. I'm going back as soon as the season opens again. It never seemed to full which is a shame since it looks as if they have just rebuilt the entire campground.

The campground is nice and probably site 11 is the best one out of the bunch. The river is no more than 2 feet deep through the stretch of the campground. The big setback is the trains that pass through that canyon, roughly 5 a day. There is a nice little store which can be accessed through a trail and roughly ¼ of a mile hike. The sites have food lockers, tables and fire pits and the summer host is very nice. Most of the sites are close to each other, which is also a setback. I would return if I were in a pinch for a spot to camp.

Camp hosted harassed us and sold our reserved site. Stuck his hands inside of my driver's side window without a mask on and yelled at me as I was in the driver's seat after I questioned why he sold off my reserved campsite. Recreation.gov did nothing and I did not get a refund. F that guy. I hope he doesn't treat his other campers like this.

A gem hidden in the forests. Was amazed to see such neat and clean campground. The river near by is pretty cool, very clean and shallow water. Good for people going to camping and still prefer the clean toilets and showers.
