These guys are sick. Laid back chill friendly helpful and easy to talk to. Everything you want from a high quality ski shop. They helped me out with a binding re-mount and had me done fast same day turnaround. Way faster than any other shop I called to. I saw some competitive discounts too on new gear. Oh and try the new poke place next door while you drop in ;)

I have have been very impressed with Gunnar. He is very service oriented, calm, and an excellent ski and boot technician. Since my right foot is slightly smaller than my left, I have struggled with skiing due to the slop in my right boot. He took this up as a challenge, and spent 1/2 hour readjusting the rubber boot insert, and adding cushioning beneath it. Finally I can ski with both boots being tight. The store has a 50% discount sales events. The price shows is 190, so should be 95But when I did the checkout the computer says 113, and the store staff refuses to use this price they put 190 and discount to 95. I think the item is pretty good and I liked it. But I also don’t want to be tricked. I said I want to understand more what’s is the suggested price and look it up and the store staff just went away with a annoying face.I came here almost everyday during winter season and I will churn from it. Bad experience one time is sufficient.

EDIT: Darby is still a legend, and deserves 5 stars. But I’m revising my review down because I just had a terrible experience trying to get my bindings adjusted to the boots. They took the skis on Thursday and said everything looks good and I should have my skis ready 8 AM Saturday. I pre-paid and left. We arrived promptly at 8 AM Sat and they said “oh, sorry, we couldn’t adjust your bindings.” No call on Friday. No call on Saturday. Nothing. We burned hours of a great day dealing with this nonsense. I maintain Darby is a legend, but this experience sucked.Darby is a living legend. I went to this BlueZone Sports location in early 2021 to get ski boots after 3 unfruitful visits to other, nearby locations. Darby spent 1.5 hours helping me get the perfect boot. He clearly has a love for his craft that makes him exceptional at his job. If you need ski boots, I highly suggest you go to this location and ask for Darby.

My family and I had a great experience here at the Tahoe location. We rented 2 bikes and brought our own newly purchased trailer for our kids to ride in the back. However, we forgot the mount piece to connect our trailer to the bike. The owner was super awesome and allowed us to take his trailer that he normally rents at no cost. They know customer service and do good business. Solid gear as well. I would go back for all my rentals here! Thanks BlueZone!

Loved the expert help in selecting new skis and boots! I'm new to the area and wanted to pick up skiing again after decades of doing little more than renting equipment for a couple of days every several years. I knew nothing about how to select either, so I went with their advise and have been thrilled with the quality and fit of the equipment.

I visit BlueZone often, as I'm new to Tahoe and have to get all the gear for resort and backcountry! Each trip I've made to this site, I've received incredible service. The manager, Darby, has been attentive and helpful, without ever being pushy. Staff are knowledgable and friendly. I rented resort boots and skis for the season and went in to see if I could get a smaller pair of boots. I was instead offered education in ways to make rental boots fit. Staff suggested I purchase a pair of inserts which worked like a charm (and I get to keep when I return the boots!) I always feel good leaving BlueZone, with reliable equipment and a good experience.

Where do I even begin?! Mike was incredible. He let me try 180 cm demo skis for two days. I told him I was new to west coast skiing and he was very helpful and knowledgeable. When I came back to exchange for a smaller ski, he offered 170 cm demo skis. He said he wanted my experience to be as enjoyable as possible. Well, I can safely say I will be purchasing skis from him. Always honest. Always fair. That's how a business should be. Treat your customers well, and they will treat you well in return. I'll be coming to Blue Zone Sports in Truckee or ordering from them online here on out.

Highly recommend Blue Zone Sports. They are a family owned business that is going against the large national brands like REI. The service that Blue Zone provies is tier 1 and they really know how to treat customers well. Their prices are very reasonable and I can often find the specific products I am looking for at Blue Zone. They have proven themselves to be a great addition to our Truckee community! Thank you Blue Zone.

Drive off the strip and around the corner for crazy-awesome customer service, advice, and quality gear. The guys here made me feel like a local and the low price rental gear was awesome. We even got a great deal on a new jacket. Highly recommend.

Coming here for several years. Never had a visit when all my needs have not been taken care of. Have had my boots and skis worked on. They are a super qualified team. This year we had to have new skis and bindings. We were given recommendations on which skis to buy based on our skills and skiing style. Our skis were ordered and ready in a week. Cannot tell you how happy we both are with our skis.Dont go anywhere else , these people are the best !!!!"Skosh" and Chrissy

Rented skis for a party of 5. Stars given for value: $31 for walk ins, and $21 for purchases in advance via Groupon.Points of improvement:1) rental variety was limited and not accommodating for wide feet. They also ran out of helmets (medium, large) before 10:30am. They don’t rent ski goggles, pants, or jackets. They have skis/boards, bindings, boots, poles, and helmets.2) integrity; they tried to get my friend to rent an XL helmet that didn’t fit, you could stick two fingers between. This should be reviewed, and was really disappointing to me.I didn’t expect these shortcomings from a store with typically great reviews. But I can’t really complain at that price for beginners, $31 is much cheaper than ~$70 at the slopes.

Mansplaining, explainedI wasn’t going to leave a review, but this was one of those experiences that sat with me after, and the more I thought about it, the more I realized I needed to say something.When I entered the store, a man asked me if I needed help with anything. I said I was interested in bike rentals and he said they only rent demo mountain bikes. He then said, in a sarcastic tone, “You know, the kind that only go off the pavement. Mountain bikes are for off the pavement.” Never mind that I’ve been mountain biking since I was a child, this was an inappropriate comment to make to a customer, particularly a young Indian woman. The assumptions were there!After he explained that they don’t do half day rentals of any bikes, I asked him politely if he knew anywhere else to go. He said “I’m not in the business of knowing what my competitors do.” The tone was again, clipped and rude. Never mind that, if he doesn’t do half days, the other stores that do them aren’t technically his competitors, he could have given a polite answer.Now, there will be those of you who dismiss this review when I say this last part; fine, this isn’t for you. But for those of you that are listening closely and paying attention to the world: THESE are the small moments in which prejudice happens and we need to speak up. I’m a young brown woman and that man was an older, white man. Of course, you’ll say, how do I know this was prejudice? I could be wrong. But, remember, I’ve lived a lifetime of these small cuts and it gets old.Instead of going here, I’d suggest you patronize a woman-owned store down the street: Bike Truckee.

Jake is awesome! I came into the store with a friend to look at beanies. It was a birthday present from my friend to me. She wanted me to pick it out and Jake was really helpful. He helped me find the perfect style and color. I was so happy to have his help. If he hadn't helped me, I probably would have just walked out of the store with nothing. Best birthday beanie ever! Blue Zone Sports in South Lake Tahoe gave my wife and I a demo on e-mountain bikes. My wife had never been mountain biking and loved every minute of her experience. I have been mountain biking before and was so impressed with the e bikes. Blue zone went out of their way to provide us these bikes so we could map the Kokanee Trail Races that will be held on October 6th. I would highly recommend renting or purchasing outdoor equipment from this store.

I’ve drove past this place hundreds of times but as soon as a friend told about the local deals they hook up I went in and walked out the proud owner of a EJACK 154 this is only because the 2 snowboard sales kids were very educated in what details I provided them about what type of terrain I liked …..he steered me into the EJACK 😝 I sure hope it works tomorrow at Squaw
