A long-standing, privately-owned vet practice in an area where vet clinics are being snapped up by corporations & other profit-driven entities. Both vets I've dealt with here have been wonderful, especially on a very difficult day when our beloved cat had to be euthanized. Front desk staff are helpful even when extremely busy, which is common, as this is a very popular clinic. Only cats & dogs (LOTS of dogs!) seen here. Highly recommended.

I discovered an abscess on my cat’s jaw early this morning and tried to get her in to my usual veterinary clinic in Atascadero. They wanted to charge me $130 to see her because I didn’t have an appointment. That’s ridiculous! I then proceeded to call around to other vet clinics and Main Street animal Hospital was able to see her today without an exorbitant office visit charge, even though they had shorter business hours on a Saturday and were working with minimal staff. By 10:00 AM the doctor had contacted me to let me know that the procedure went smoothly and that I could pick up my cat before their closing time. I would highly recommend Main Street animal Hospital and staff because they are caring, considerate, and understand that sometimes you need a vet even when you don’t have an appointment.

We recently moved to the area with the sweetest 12.5 year old rottweiler. Knowing he is at the tail end of his life, finding a good vet was one of our priorities once we moved! Main Street Small Animal Hospital exceeded all expectations from the front office staff to the vet. We were pleasantly greeted right away and did not have much of a wait. Dr Megan Drake was friendly, knowledgeable and very compassionate to our situation. She took her time, answered all questions & gave us great options. I love that she sat down on the ground with our dog during our appointment. She even held his paw while talking to us! (one of his favorite things to do with people) Checkout was just as easy with the front desk & his prescriptions were called into the pharmacy as promised. My husband and I quickly realized how lacking our prior vet experience was. We are grateful we found such a great place to take care of our dog!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE!!! My Daughter myself & all our Furkins have been going there for years. The Vets & Staff are very Caring, Knowledgeable and Compassionate about our Furry Babies!!! Plus their pricing is spot on. Un like other places in the past! It's SOO Comforting knowing our Furkins are in their hands when "ANYTHING" pops up! 👍❤️

Suspect my dog should be participating in this review as well, but he is terrible on these minuscule keyboards! The whole team there was professional and treated Rocky as one of their own - can't comment on their surgery skills, as we were only visiting for vaccines and a quick health check-up. Nevertheless, will definitely revisit (hopefully, not too soon!).

Love Main Street Animal Hospital they really go that extra mile when it come to our furry loved ones. Just recently my dog Kali was diagnosed with sterile predictulidic and the doctors were great how they took care of her. She is on the mend now. I'm forever grateful.

This is the ONLY vet I trust on the Central Coast! My dog Tomato, saw Dr.Gomez for a sore paw and were able to get us in that day to help us! We did what he recommended and prescribed and she was feeling better that same day! I have had bad experience at other vets and this vet diagnoses and helps fix my dog's issues every time. I have seen all the doctors and they are all superb. We drive 40 mins to get to this vet because they are that worth it! Hands down best vet!

The Drs are always easy to understand and don't try to have treatments done that aren't neccessary. The office staff and receptionist are very nice! They could give some other businesses lessons.

Dr Ellinger comes off as arrogant and doesn’t like to be questioned. When a Med error was made, he didn’t address it and was condescending. Definitely doesn’t leave one feeling like they want to come back.

We have a senior cat with a handful of medical issues,requiring a little extra attention. We brought Tazzy, our15 year old Himalayan/Tabby to be seen for a 1st visit with Doctor Megan Drake. She ordered all the right labs, and spent considerable time with us gathering information about his passed care and medical history.My partner and I are both medical professionals, and recognize talent and genuine loving care. We will be bringing in the rest of our fur baby menagerie, to see Doctor Drake as well.

If your pup is not a fan of being alone with a vet, DO NOT send them here. Otherwise your animal and you will have to fight off being labeled in records as “extremely aggressive” over growling and this will deter other vets from accepting your animal in the future over fear. Even though he received all of his shots here with a couple visits with no harm to anyone. They also wanted us to neuter our large breed dog at 4 months old, and when we decided not to because of wanting healthy growth, they left us a lengthy message about their “fear” for our dog and the “dangerous road” we are taking him down and that they no longer wanted to be his vet. He is now 8 months old. He happily attends play days at doggy daycare and everyone, staff and animals, love him and have had zero issues with him.

Last summer during the height of the pandemic, our adopted senior (12 year old) dog was diagnosed with terminal cancer. We had only had him for a year and knew he had had a previous bout with cancer but had been abandoned and was considered cured but probably not going to be adoptable. We wanted to give him a loving home for his remaining years. He brought us so much joy and love. All the staff at Main Street were so compassionate and caring. They provided us with a shady secluded area in their side yard where we could spend his last moments with him and he peacefully drifted to doggie heaven in my dad's lap. Thank you to all of the staff for making a heartbreaking time one of peace and love.

The staff is exceptionally professional, capable, pleasant, helpful, and they work quickly and thoroughly. Dr. Ehlinger, was approachable; he introduced himself with just his first name and sat on the floor with my dog for the whole visit. He asked lots of questions and listened carefully to the patient info. He gave me lots of information and options. I never felt rushed. And, bonus, the clinic was so clean!! There was no hair anywhere and not a trace of icky animal odors. Great experience!

Dr Ehlinger and his entire staff are amazing people. This is hard to write because my dog was very sick, and I had to make the decision to have her put to sleep. The love and sensitivity given to both my dog and myself were remarkable. Both in life and in the end of her life, my dear dog was incredibly taken care of, totally loved and respected and honored for who she was.....as I have been as well. I will never go anywhere else.

I've taken my cats here since I was little, and just recently my dog who unfortunately it was his time to cross the bridge. I can't even begin to say all the nice things this place, the doctor, and the staff deserve. There has never been a bad experience. I love taking my animals here because both the animals and the people are treated with such respect and honor that it warms the heart and comforts the soul. Oh, also, they went above and beyond what I expected when it was my dogs time, even let me wait in the backyard with him for an hour just so my mom could be there too. Thank you, thank you so much.

I can't say enough good things about Main Street Animal Hospital. I have been taking my pets to them for well over 10 years. Their staff is always friendly, helpful and extremely compassionate. I recently took two of my dogs in for a teeth cleaning. Thanks to the pre-blood work that they performed they were able to catch a medical condition of one of my dogs. I am so thankful. Although he will need to take medicine for the rest of his life, (he has lots of good years left!!) he is happy and back to his old self.

In our HOUR of need Main Street totally came through for us. Our 2 adorable but mischievous schnauzers got into some chocolate -- a quick web search confirmed that this can be deadly AND that time is of the essence. The team at Main Street was amazing compassionate and fast. They kept us informed and treated the pups w induced vomiting and IV fluids and charcoal. We are THRILLED with the service and kindness from all. This includes an un-rushed conversation with the Doctor.

The staff is always open and honest about different treatment options, and very transparent with how much things will cost. After losing our last dog to a missed cancer diagnosis by a competitor, we have been impressed by the quality of services, friendliness of the team, and our new dog loves to visit! I love this office, all the staff and Dr. Alex!! They took great care of my lil cocoa butters. She had some mammary gland tumors, one of which needed immediate attention and during this covid craze they still took their time and gave her their thorough attention. Her surgery went very well and she is healing up wonderfully, all thanks to this Awesome office and caring staff! Thank you Main Street😊

We anguished over the decision to put down our dog whom we had for over 8 years. The vet told us over the phone our options and that he would support our decision either way. On the day we took our dog in, the vet made a really insensitive comment indicating he thought we had made the “wrong” decision. It was definitely not something we needed on top of how devastated we already were. If we ever choose to adopt another dog, we will not be returning to this vet.

Preface: Because I've moved a lot since being a cat guardian for 30+ years, I've been to many vet practices, so my review is based on significant experience. I recently had to relocate yet again, so my review is in the past tense.I can't say enough GOOD about this practice!!! Dr. E. and all of the support staff showed a high level of genuine concern and TLC for my 10 and 17 y.o. cats. Dr. E. provided excellent care - very effective, efficient, and took into consideration quality (versus quantity) of life. Quality of life is important for all animals, and is especially true for a geriatric cat with a critical kidney condition. The environs are calm, clean, modern, and friendly AND they know to talk in a soft voice in the presence of cats so as to not add to a stressful situation. After we moved away, Dr. E. still made time to talk with me on the phone re: my geriatric cat's status. This practice has certainly raised the bar for all others!

These guys are the best. They've had such a good system in place in response to COVID-19. The doctor and staff are attentive and patient. Yes, calls are put on hold quite often but they are busy for a reason. I will continue brining my cats here for as long as I'm in the area.
