1 star for the very poor customer service from TERI. She was the only cashier open at 5 am, and I went to her line while she was trying to stock something so she annoyingly said, “ I’ll be right there” and then comes over looking very rude and I smiled at her and said hi good morning and she ignored me. Then she rings me up without cracking one smile looking rude the entire time and I then said, “I’m going to use EBT.” and she cuts me off and says “I still have to charge you for these bags, “ my total was over $100 and I had $78.22 left on my EBT so I told her that thinking I spent $78 on groceries but I actually only spent $60 on groceries and the rest was on taxable items to which she says “oh you don’t have enough on EBT you only have $60 “ even though that was -incorrect- she wasn’t reading it correctly. That was just the balance due for groceries so instead of adjusting the amount from 78 to 60 and some change she just stood there staring at me trying to make me think I didn’t have enough even though I did waiting for me to swipe a different card.. the whole time this lady never smiled once just kept sniffling her nose and looking mad for being at work because it’s 5 AM or mad because she had to cashier. Big deal that’s your job! I have cashiered/managed/stocked (multi tasked) did it all for over 10 years and was always equal to every customer no matter what day it was what time or who the Customer is. All paying customer should be treated with respect regardless of the matter whether it’s cash or EBT etc. I’m going there for a good experience not a bad one. Now when I check my ebt balance I still have $78.22 and the entire balance on my other card smh.(I hope this was actually her name. That’s what it says on my receipt but I should of double checked her name tag) but she was being helped by a young man who bagged quietly witnessing the whole thing probably used to her being like this so he never said anything.

For being a Safeway chain as well the most expensive grocery store in this small town, you'd think they would be on top of their game a tad bit more.A couple months ago I was shopping the bread isle when I noticed a loaf of moldy bread. I was grossed out as well surprised because I had never in my adult life gone into a food store of this caliber, or any grocery store really, and found a loaf of moldy bread. My second not too long ago experience was a box of cauliflower Mac and Cheese. I went to cook it and as I was looking over the directions, I noticed that even though I had just purchased it a couple days prior, it was already expired. It had been sitting on the shelf expired and overpriced. My third experience was just a week ago. I purchased a $25 family size flat of chicken thighs. I took it home, refrigerated it, then on the day it was suggested to freeze or cook; I went to cook the entire flat. Upon opening I was hit with the smell of chicken that was already bad.Needless to say I called Safeway, spoke to a very nice man in the meat department who told me I could come in and exchange it. With receipt in hand, I took the time in my busy, demanding day to make yet another trip to the store.Once there, they did not have another family size that was at the price of $25 I had paid. Instead of offering me store credit (or anything for this matter other than a bewildered, confused look on their face) for the $5 difference I was out on their rotten chicken, I had to leave the store $5 short of what I paid them! This is not right.A customer should not have this many negative experiences from any grocery store, let alone an overpriced chain of this scale, and within the 5 months I've lived here. A customer should never leave any store being owed money for any situation let alone on rotting meat.I wish I had the option to shop a better chain, but unfortunately there is only Grocery Outlet and a Susanville market that has very little selection, and is as expensive, if not higher than Safeway. It would ould be nice if I could be confident that someone with clout will read this review and make sure that their staff is adequately checking shelves for expired and moldy products, as well not allow customers to leave the store being owed money, but nobody cares this day and age, and I'm sure this review will fall on deaf ears.Do yourself a favor...If you shop here, do not take it upon yourself to trust that Safeway has efficient employees/management going around and doing their job by looking for these oversights; read expiration dates as you are shopping.

Dont recommend ordering a sandwich. Patty, who rude from the start, was taking my order forgot to glove up at the beginning when she did put on gloves she kept touching her pants and then the food.

This is the nicest store of any kind in Susanville! Clean, well stocked, friendly helpful staff, and the items you buy will always be FRESH! Join the little free membership, shop wisely, clip the virtual coupons and you'll spend less than the other Not Very Super Market in town! Plus, to reiterate, your items will be FRESH!! I, also, due to an injury, shop on the app and have my groceries delivered. Right to my door, sun, rain, snow...Perfect!!

Look at the expiration dates on the products. TOO many are expired. The topper was the milk being expired by a week (yesterday). I pointed out many times expired items to find them still on the shelf, but moved to the front, a week later. Just sad because most products are things kids would eat / drink that are expired.

Shame one cannot go to the local grocery store without being assaulted by ignorance. If your not cis/white/straight best drive to Reno. Not a reflection of store staff, everyone was friendly and helpful.

More than once in the morning they don't have a single manned register going so people with a full cart have use self checkout, they don't check dates when stocking and leave expired/moldy food on the shelf. More often than not, items are misplaced by people stocking who don't take the time to pay attention to what they are doing, and you'd think they'd branch out and try to sell some different items but they offer the same generic junk as the other 3 stores in town. Tell me why you neer 4 different creamer companies but only buy the same flavors? No exotic selections for any type of item in store. Just the basics. Definitely small town thinking in this store.

Great selection but ALWAYS the most expensive place to buy groceries. They should be ashamed of themselves. The cashier let me use her discount membership number which saved me $52 (which reflects the three stars for this review), but I'm just one guy buying groceries for a week...with that discount, I still paid $176! At Walmart, that would have been about $125 (without any discounts). I will continue to avoid Safeway whenever I can.

Wonderful Graduation Luau Party thanks to Safeway! FINALLY!Catering through Safeway Deli really is a great way to host ANY GET TOGETHER! I have never had any bumps in the road or complaint anytime I've had them Cater! They've always be polite, professional & sure do know how to make me look like the hostest with the mostest. The trays are bigger than expected, the food is always good & put together so beautifully & on time!! 5 stars every time.....high five to the deli!!My family & I were bout to give up on the quality & were seriously doubting the bakery's abilities to say the least. Especially after our son's birthday cake that had been ordered 2 weeks prior was not only not what had been ordered but was not even baked at all!! We had tried a few more times to restore our faith & yippie.......they made an amazing cake that was better then what was shown in the pictures & it tasted amazingly moist & fluffy! Well done bakery!! YUM YUM!

I was on vacation en route to Portland, Oregon. I bought some Gerber baby foods (yogurt) from this store and fed it to my baby. A while after I was flabbergasted to discover that the product is expired by more than 6 months (I admit it was my mistake to not double check before buying). The next day my toddler had some upset stomach and diarrhea. This is unacceptable considering these are baby foods. I probably won't visit Safeway again

Safeway always has fresh produce, deliciously hot deli items, and the nicest staff. Their floral selection always makes it a pleasant experience when looking for flower arrangements or that special something.

Love this Safeway. The staff is always helpful and kind. Shout out to the night staff in particular since they are open until 2a and are the only grocery stores in town open that late! The donuts are always a favorite and sometimes they have the best deals on seafood and meats! I definitely recommend to download the Safeway app. Sometimes they offer freebies on there as well as you can build up points for either gas or items in the store. If you are a frequent Safeway shopper it's a must app to have! Thanks Susanville Safeway.

I enjoy this supermarket for the fresh ready make meals they serve. I'm in town working and living in a camper so it's important I have meals I can easily prepare after a long day and this place provides those at an excellent price point

I show up around 6 pm on 6/1/23 to do a money order, when I get the the counter there is a older gentleman waiting already and I asked him if someone was coming. He said "yes, the guy said he'd be right back, he had to do something." Ok, cool, I'll wait for him. DAM NEAR 45 MINUTES LATER!!! No one had still showed up, and at this point it's me and 3 other people all waiting for this guy.I'm guessing The guy had clocked out for the day and lied to that man just because he didn't want to deal with it, because he still never showed up. Amazing you guys have that kind of staff.

Overpriced. They used to be a great spot back in the day but since they got rid of all the old people that worked there, forced them out when Albertsons and/or something else bought them out, we lost our good home town store. The people that work there, some do try, others not so much. When you can buy something there for $15 and get it in Reno for $3! Yes, there is convenience, but when you already have to make trips over there or buy in bulk over there, it's way more cost-effective to go to Reno. The other week, I priced my cart out that I needed and couldn't wait for a trip over. Then, when I made it over to Reno, I wrote the cost over there. Safeway cost - $187.45. Winco & Sam's Club - $100.23. That even makes gas worth it!!! And a few things I would have got in Reno were larger, so it is actually a bigger savings.

Expensive!! They're store is clean and the staff are nice, but I've wanted cubed steaks for a couple of months and the tenderizer is still not working. I finally went to another store in town.

I stopped in susanville, California and this location had issues with being fully stocked, this was my first time noticing this when grocery shopping since supply has been an issue. It was very quiet and few people in the store shopping. I think it's possible they are shopping in Reno to get better variety and lower prices during this supply problem and inflation. I got what I needed mostly but had to do without a few things and change brands in a few products but I was glad to get what I did and not have to wait until I got to bigger town before shopping since I am in an RV traveling.

This store Manager is awesome! Store is clean, fast and friendly check out most of the time. I would have given 5 stars but unfortunately there is one employee whom is very discriminatory towards others particularly lower income individuals. I have personally witnessed it and was not OK with her remarks in regards to the young lady who was using a alternative payment. It is not her place to give her opinions about things like this nor will it ever be, her position is to provide a fast and friendly check out not degrade or belittle others as they walk away.

One of the complaints that I have is often times the store doesn't have items anymore. I realize that it is the same all over, however I hate having to go to several stores looking for items that I have on my shopping list. The only other problem I have is the store stocks items higher on shelves then they use to. At 5 ft 5 inches tall, I often find someone taller than me and ask for assistance.

Beware of the meat section!!! They arrange meat in packages to look enticing and it's marked cheap, compared to the same cut. So when you get it home and take it out of the package, it's ALL fat!! Or the hamburger is the worst! Get home, put in fridge, 2 days later you take it out to prepackaged in portion sizes and oh my lord...stinks to high heaven and rotten on the inside!!Will NEVER buy meat here again.Bought 80 dollars worth of crab, I was told it was never prefrontal, I asked several times. Got it home, opened it up and oh was I highly disappointed! The meat inside the leg shells was dried out. Looked like whitefish clear jerkey! So buyer beware!!!

I usually buy most of my meat and dairy here. Store is very clean. The flower arrangements are good. Best time to shop is early mornings or late nights on week days. Any other time the lines are crazy and there are so many people shopping.

We visit this store at least once a day. We really appreciate the effort to get healthy quality foods. One issue we have had on a regular basis is the expiration dates. Also the produce has been on the extra ripe side. Other than that it is a great store and extremely clean. The Starbucks here is also great!

I would have given a fourth star had it not had been for the rediculoiusly slow service I received at the meat/seafood department, especially since I was the only customer there at the time. I went in for a quick run in and grab dinner trip, and ended up being held up an extra 25 minutes for a dozen fresh oysters. I won't be returning anytime soon.
