We adopted our beautiful puppy here a week and a half ago. She was Chloe, now Gracie. Our experience was great. Everyone was kind, and they also make sure your pup is microchipped & spayed. Even her first vaccinations. There’s so many amazing dogs here who need homes. I am so glad we chose the shelter to adopt our Gracie girl. If you are looking for a new furry friend, PLEASE come here. 🙏🏻🐾

Ok THIS PLACE has the most amazing dogs you will ever see. Sadly the building is small and very outdated but you cannot judge the staff because of this or the animals. Totally understated how amazing the dogs are. You will find gorgeous breeds-- everything from GSDs to border collies to Catahoula leopard dogs. Plus you'll be helping a shelter that needs help offloading dogs badly. I've already adopted 2 from them. Won't hesitate to adopt more in the future!

Where are our tax Dollars?! Their number to set up appointments is a JOKE! NO ONE THERE TO TAKE THE CALLS. Or they are picking their nose or on their cell. You get stuck on the Quue for an hr. then are told "system error" and are disconnected! Time and time again day after day!In the 9 years I have been in Stockton, never have I seen their trucks driving around setting traps catching stray cats nor dogs. There are so many injured or vicious strays yet the shelter, city, nor animal control does the job it's payed to do. When Citizens try to do it for them we get turned away. Saying, “no space, just release them”!! Because other citizens did our job already and this ONE shelter cannot handle all the influx of animals for this very large city. I've been acused of taking my pets as an excuse to not take them in (No they are ferals and community cats or dogs!) Mypets are fat happy and safe at home, while I am trying to help TNR feral Cats and help homeless dogs, the City sits on their BUTT. Who's hands are holding our taxes instead of helping these animals and cleaning the city up? Who is in charge of the shelter doing its job? Because they are seriously dropping the ball. Investigate! See that ALL THE 1 STAR REVIEWS ARE CORRECT!Are they doing TNR? Or is the Shelter just a Gas DEATH CAMP? Who can investigate? I was told by a community help group they get killed. Please someone investigate! So they can get sued AGAIN!

I made a phone call to report a large dead dog on a very dangerous street I did not know how dangerous it was. I called 4 times in 3 weeks and no one was picking up this poor dead dog. I was told it was county’s responsibility. But no one was doing their job. On my last call I informed this facility that I wanted to file a complaint. I received a call from a county Sergeant and he informed me it was the responsibility of the city. He took it upon himself and had the deceased animal removed that very day. He informed me that it was almost life threatening to try to remove this dog it was hidden from oncoming traffic. I give great respect and thanks to this Sergeant for getting this poor dog off the side of the road. No one from the city even bothered to try.

I just couldn't give it 5 ,,,,⭐;sNot because they didn't provide excellent service because they did.Not because they weren't super helpfulbecause they were .Not because they didn't seem to carebecause they didIt was simply because of all the little furbabies crying that broke my heart.I brought 1 home along with a friend who got 1 as well.that have volunteer programs called I think doggy day out where you come take a dog out for a day to give them a break from the loud shelter environment for a day. They do ask you some questions about the day out like how the animal acted and stuff so they can get a better idea about what kind of dog they are and how they behave in pubic,new places,etc etc. Anybody^ can do it and honestly if your feeling down animals are WONDERFUL for your mental health,Both of you will benefit I promise so please consider volunteeringEVERYONE SHOULD FIND A PLACE IN THEIR❤️ AND THEIR HOME FOR ASHELTER PET!!!!

They are doing all they can with what they get... Sad to see them work so hard not having enough staff, funds, room or time to do what they are so desperately trying to do. I personally appreciate every person who has any part in their mission.

I’m giving a bad review because they didn’t log in the animal that I brought in and I don’t feel like they’re putting any effort into figuring out what they did with the animal, I found a cat running across the middle of the street and the back legs were not working I brought it into the shelter they took a photo of my ID they asked me where I found it and they never put the cat into the system???? So why did she take a photo of my ID and what did they do with the cat and I called multiple times and no one has at least asked around to figure out what happened to the cat they told me I could look online the cat is not posted up online either i’m figuring they put it down I’m not understanding why they don’t have a record of the cat being brought in or put down though if that was the case and why she took my information to never log the cat that woman on the phone straight up told me as far as they know I never brought a cat in and then she goes I’m not saying you’re lying but we don’t have a record of it here how outrageous and preposterous Wish I never brought the animal to the shelter at this point I even offered to show them a picture but she said that probably wouldn’t help which makes no sense how many cats come in in that condition why was my information not put into the system all of this seems very shady to me

I found a stray dog and made an appointment to bring him into the shelter (which was 2 weeks out). I then took him to a vet to have him scanned for a chip, and they told me he had one. I contacted the Stockton animal shelter to update them and asked if I could bring the dog in sooner in case his owner was going to the shelter to look for him, and they said no. Anyway, I kept him until the appointment and brought him in. A couple days later, I decided I wanted to adopt the dog because my family and I had really bonded with him and missed him so much! I went back to the shelter and they told me I had to wait until today 2/22 to adopt him because that was their protocol. I told them the owner had never reached out to me in the 2 weeks I had him (I had reported him found to the microchip company, 24Petwatch). However, the girl at the shelter said I had to wait. I came back today, right when they opened, and checked the kennels for the dog, and he wasn’t there. The shelter staff told me he went to an animal rescue and they cannot give me the information of where he went. Why? I have no idea. She gave no further information or help. Wow! My heart is broken. I’m so angry and their service is horrible!

I had a wonderful experience at the Stockton Animal Shelter. The staff members were incredibly kind and made the adoption process quick and easy. I'm grateful for the kitten I adopted from there. The shelter is well-maintained, and the animals receive excellent care. I highly recommend the Stockton Animal Shelter for their compassionate staff, efficient adoption process, and the joy they brought into my life with my new furry companion.

I'm on hold right now! Over an hour for a call I made yesterday. It was an urgent situation with a bad neighbor that has a history of animal cruelty. I'm still waiting on hold to update them. I took matters into my own hands. I located the dog in a crate that had been howling and getting weaker for 3 days. She was sitting in her own poop. No water or food. And whatever water and food she had , was outside of her camouflaged crate! I'm still sitting on hold to let y'all know I got her owners on the phone and made sure she's not suffering anymore. Her name is Chacha and she's a pocket bull dog. Absolutely adorable There's no reason for her to be confined in something so small and no one to help. As I type, I'm still 4th in the que. It's been 30 mins of that. Please get better!!!

Full now!!! Not accepting rescued dogs..If you find a dog , it now becomes the rescuer's responsibility to rehome the dog per the law .. BEWARE. Were not friendly when entered with rescued homeless dog. They did later ,offer assistance with care for the dog with free food and toys though.

Staff was courteous, professional and helpful. Our escort during the adopted viewing process was patient, and very helpful. The staff was efficient and very professional. I appreciate the assistance, the explanations and the generous sharing of staff experience. They guided and assisted in matching a perfect canine to my needs and wants for the perfect canine family member. Thank you City of Stockton animal shelter staff!

I want to send a big shout out to the animal control officers and the staff at the Stockton Animal Shelter. We lost our special needs dog Stitch and they were able to find him and return him to us in less then 24 hours. He was well taken care of and everyone was so caring and concerned. We sincerely appreciate all of u!!! Keep up the amazing work!!!

A little doggie showed up on our doorstep. We gave him food, water, and bundled him. Then brought him over to the shelter. They were very sweet with him. There has been a family looking for someone just like him. Happy that he will continue to be loved.

Tried calling without success for over an hour today. I sat in the queue and when I finally hit being first in line, I got a message saying their system was experiencing technical difficulties and my call could not be completed at that time. We were luckily able to get in contact and an appointment with a local vet who was able to help us out due to the urgency of our needs.

Wow. As our city has grown, everything else does. Add a human pandemic to that.Great job Stockton Animal shelter. New pandemic system so business can move forward.Makes ya willing to be legal and contribute to the flow of the city. (My senior dog doen't go out anymore) Nonetheless let's be law abiding citizens. 😝🤗😊Appecuste the rabies vaccine availability and reasonable cost.👍

Been here a few times to try to get some kitties a home but they either have been full or only accept kitties on the brink of death. No room for healthy kitties. People are friendly, there are some very nice dogs here for adoption.

I have been here three days in a row and the staff couldn’t be friendlier and more caring. They were very helpful when it came to resources for trying to help me find my lost pet. Even though I didn’t find anything here they gave me lots of extra places to check. They really do care.

This place truly doesn't deserve a star after yesterday's visit. My girlfriend had confiscated a small male Chihuahua and explained to me that this poor little puppy, maybe only eight weeks old. Had ingested methamphetamine. After watching him eat the bits of white chicken I gave him like he's never been fed. Contacting several local dog hospitals that expressed no concern for the puppies health. I then rush him over here to the shelter, address the first employee available, & the pups condition. She decides to raise her voice to me because she is busy counting a box of kittens.. Judge me yesterday All they want for my failure to remain calm. But, when the subject falls upon something like a puppy. No bigger than the size of my hand, and he might very well die, or become injured internally somehow if he doesn't get treated immediately. I'm going to stand up for someone, or something that can't. I'm going back today to check on the little one, & give him a good home if possible. Hopefully he's okay. Thank you to the medical staff for being so quick to get him help. You guys get ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ❤️

Horrible staff and service!We found 4 pups on highway 4, so instead of leaving them there and getting hit, we brought them to the shelter in hopes they'll find a new home and safety.The staff were refusing to take then and said we needed to take them somewhere else or we'd be fine.I told them I was being a good citizen by bringing the dogs to their shelter and it's their job to find other resources.

I'm changing my review about the Stockton shelter. Because this dog keeps jumping in and out of my yard, I don't know who's dog it is, but it won't leave every time I let it out it jumps right back over, it's a white pepper with black humming with brown spots on it. I've been calling an animal shelter for 3 days now to come pick up this dog that keeps telling me that I'm on schedule. But haven't came picked up this dog yet and my. Keeps trying to attack this dog. Every time my son goes outside to feed my dog. I don't know what's attracting this dog to come in my yard. But all of the sudden, it just pops up and. It leaves in the morning and just pops right back. Up in my yard.

Adopted a 3 year old German Shepherd who was a day past his due out date. There was no event going on, but his adoption fee was waived. Please leave a donation if you're fortunate enough to be that lucky.The volunteer who let me meet him was very knowledgeable about him and other animals at the shelter, the staff were kind, and able to answer any questions or concerns. They also provided two free sample bags of the kibble they feed in order to aid in transitioning to whatever food you feed at home.I adopted Thursday and was able to take home the good boy Friday immediately after neuter. The process was simple, just let them know which animal I wanted and they will tell you whether or not there are behavioral issues or if the animal has any red flags.They have a vet on site, the surgical area, and wound are neatly and professionally closed. After about 12 hours his anesthesia wore off and he is such a great addition to my home. He did have kennel cough, but that is almost unavoidable in a shelter scenario, so they sent him home with a 10 day supply of antibiotics. Shelter name was "Murphy", he didn't respond to it so I renamed and am training him to "Achilles".Thanks for all you do Stockton Animal Shelter!

Why hasn't the city AT LEAST put up sunshades out front so people & animals don't have to stand in the direct sun like i did for an hour? They're cheap & easy to install. Donate some of your giant salary, city council & do PR for yourself by installing them yourself. Other than that, the staff was very nice & helpful.

I lost my dog to old age several months ago. I have been looking for another one but none of them seemed right. We stopped in yesterday to see what was available. When I saw her my heart felt full again, she hobbled to the kennel door. When we asked to bring her out she ended up sitting in my lap & kissed my face....... IT WAS ALL SHE WROTE! I didn't pick a dog she picked me. We get to pick her up tomorrow & bring her home.Moon I can't wait to go for walks & have hiking adventures with you.
