Got a hamster here, the employee offered help and proper care tips for her! We got a small cage and bowl for a temporary cage. She loves it!

I've been taking my dog for grooming at this location for eight plus years now and they've always been horrible at notifying you when your dog is ready for pickup. I've been putting up with it all these years but yesterday was a boiling point for me. Her groomer Vivian or anyone else for that matter (there were at least 4 other groomers that day) and nobody notified me that my dog was ready for pickup until I finally just dedcided to go in after it had been 5 hours since I first brought her in. I called multiple times to check on her status and nobody would answer the phone. When I got there I asked them since when has she been ready? They had told me that she had been ready for pick up 2 HOURS AGO! I asked why nobody had called me? The associate told me they called and left a voicemail.They did not call me and they definitely did not leave a voicemail! That's their excuse every time.There is no excuse for leaving a dog in the crate for 2 hours when I could've picked her up. Definitely no excuse to keep a dog for 5+ hours, my dog is an older dog she needs to eat and does not spend much time in a create or away from her owners.These workers just don't care about your dog, or their costumers. I did not tip the groomer because it was on her to make sure to notify me my dog was ready for pick up and she failed to do so. I can't believe management doesn't do a better job trying to notify.Avoid South Gate Petco grooming worst costumer service. Walnut and Downey Petco are much better at communicating with costumers, friendly and kind with your pets. They actually call when your pet is ready for pick up.

It was my first time trying an online purchase and pick up at store. Also my first time doing a repeat purchase plan… I show up to the store after work expecting this to be quick, i wait in line to be told that I have to wait at another spot, then to find out my entire order was cancelled because one item ended up being out of stock… it was said to be in stock online. I then had to wait in line again, which grew longer, just to repurchase the dog food. It ended up being more expensive. The staff was nice and friendly. Just bad system

This is my go to PETCO, they usually have all my wife and I are looking for. The staff members always greet with a smile. Their usually short wait time in lines, and the staff member are available for assistance.Thank you to the Siuth Gate Petco staff.

I am extremely disappointed with the groom that my maltipom received. The first groomer, Meg, did a great job & did not share any concerns with us. However, this time Karime groomed our dog and did terrible. Karime shared that my 4 pound maltipom puppy was “too hyper” and difficult to groom. She did not shave between his paws at all, and left his face and ears uneven. She went on to mention that if he continues to be “too difficult” they will no longer take us in. First off, I spent $90 for a terrible cut & service, and still gave her a tip for her time. However, what I will not accept is her “threat” to block us from rescheduling & her not competing a job I paid for. I feel as though I should be refunded for the portions of the service that was not fully completed. If petco, or specifically Karime, can’t handle grooming a 4 pound puppy, then maybe she shouldn’t be a groomer. I can easily take my business elsewhere to a patient groomer who values my business. This is the problem with large chains such as petco.

I went through all my receipts from getting Morgan a bath and haircut at every petco she went to. I was never charged all these fees they charged me today. She will not be back to this petco. I am very disappointed. Also they went low on 1 side of her face like they made a mistake. I do not bring her out to be mistreated.

I will never bring my dog here for grooming service ever again! I have been taking my dog to PetSmart for years and have had no issues. I needed a certain time slot and this place had availability but how I wish I had never brought him in. When I picked up my small dog he didn’t seem okay then later that day he was in pain and not able to move at all. I had to take him to the vet and they gave him an anti inflammatory shot for the pain and in a few hours he was better. I don’t know what the groomers did or how they treated him but he obviously sustained an injury. This location is just not it. The staff is unprofessional as well.

I had a great experience. Came in for flea medication, shampoo and name tag. Everything was great. I asked for help and had great customer service. No problem at all. Everything was fast and easy.

Constantly a battle every time I come in here.They are rarely stocked, there are never workers around if you actually need help, and today was the last straw:My rescue lizard FINALLY decided to start eating so I ran out to the nearest Petco to get backup crickets, and I found empty containers... no, desicated, half cannibalized cricket corpses. From a MONTH AGO. They are too lazy to bother changing out the grab and go crickets. They can't even have a staff member in the area to staff the live crickets, so I had to get a grab and go and my choices were dead crickets from a month ago?!I started pulling them from the shelf myself to take up to the front, but it was clear the manager was too busy to care about this gross negligence. So I left.I needed to get food for my lizard, anyway.P.S. Chameons need higher humidity than you're giving them. They're not a desert climate animal, Azalea Petco. Disgusting animal abuse.DEPLORABLE LOCATION.AVOID.

Brought in my yorkie for a bath, face hair trim and nail clipped . When I came back to pick her up the groomer ,Adan informed me that he wasn’t able to trim her nails because she pooped her self several times . I never had that issue before . He suggested I either buy nail clippers and do it my self or take her to a vet . I won’t be coming back to this location .

Not sure if her name was Karen or she was on Karen’s register but she was extremely rude. A line started to form and she was just standing behind the register drinking her drink and on her phone. When she finally started taking people I walked up and let her know they had expired bags of food on the shelf and she completely ignored me. She didn’t speak one word to me the entire transaction not hi or have a good day or anything. Her entire demeanor was unfriendly. I’m not sure how someone like her works in customer service. She was working around 5pm on 8 June.

Worst experience in the grooming department. I recommend you don’t waste your time going to this Petco. 2 different interactions with 2 different employees in this department and they are negative. I never argued with either of the employees. I ended up walking out and I was running late for my next appointment. When I checked my dog’s account online they had blocked me from booking appointments online due to “my dogs special needs”. My dog doesn’t have any special needs they just didn’t like that I called the Petco in Downey and let them know South Gate had horrible service and the people from that grooming department called the one in South Gate. I buy everything at Petco for my dog and our turtle but I guess it’s time to cancel subscriptions and move to Petsmart. My dog is 8 years old and I always take her to Petco to get groomed (not the one in South Gate) and to get her shots at Vetco. I’ve never had an experience like this but this explains all the recent bad reviews for their grooming department. Corporate should really see what the employees and the managers are doing.

Awful service went there to get my dog groomed and told them about a little hot spot problem and they told me that they couldn’t groom the dog because of the redness on her spot which would have been understandable if they didn’t give me attitude about it and they ended up recommending other place other that PetCo which is weird in itself and I asked them to show me there policy on which they were talking about they went and got a manager and when the manager Irene came she just held a packet on where she highlighted a section but didn’t even show it to me and just explained to me I asked a simple question on which I wanted to read it myself so I can understand it more which she refused wouldn’t recommend coming here

made appt, for pet grooming at southgate petco, groomer tried to add 5 $7 extra fees, which would be an extra 2hr & 15min,when questioned about it, no real explanation could be given, spoke with manager he explained he could not change the extra added fees, if i wanted to get dog groomed i would have to sign for the extra 5 $7.00 fees, so i signed for it , then when it came time to groom dog, I was told i had to reschedule. horrible service

worst petco groomers if I could rate 0 stars I would. had an appointment with some girl Meg and she tried telling me my 8 month old maltipoo was aggressive. my puppy is a big baby and he acts like one too and he would never hurt anyone. she kept tugging on the leash they put on them (i get the point of the leash, pups safety and staff safety), this caused pressure on my pups throat causing him to cough and eventually throw up. I tried to calm my now nervous pup but she said that he needed to be groomed under sedation and “referred” him out, by “referred” out they mean no other petco will groom them. this is frustrating to me because I usually take him to another petco location but my usual groomer didn’t have availability when I needed it but now they can’t even service him.

Took my dog for grooming and bath did the drive for nothing they weren't able to groom my dog because he was aggressive he is a Maltese mix with poodle The same person that groomed them last time didn't even take the time To see if they could groom him I will not be going to this Petco never again that experience

Takes them HOURS to get 1 bag of food for an online order. Hadn’t received email, go into the store myself to find it empty and employees lounging around not fulfilling online orders. Joke of a store, no customer service at all. Would rate ZERO stars if I could.

Of the several I've visited this one of the best experiences I've had, it's still a little chaotic but staff is friendly and trying to be attentive in the confusion. I'd go back here. Hard to taste properly on such limited exposure to the location.
