I was on a camping trip about an hour away and the derailleur on my bike snapped a cable. They were able to fix it right away and get me back out riding. I was more than pleased. Friendly staff and reasonable prices on the repair too. Thank you!

We love to buy out hiking boots here. Very knowledgeable staff.Yet another stop at The Fifth Season for yet another set of hikers. This time for a medium waterproof pair. Also got some assistance regarding inserts for my heavy hikers. We have always been treated very well by everybody. We stop in every time we drive up I5, roughly once a year.

This place is awesome! I went in to get snowboard boot rentals because the ones I bought at a different store hurt like hell. I came in here and the gentleman who helped me offered me a boot fitting. I had never heard of a heat fitting before and it is the absolute best way to break in brand new boots! The guy who helped me was very informative and friendly. The customer service here is a rarity and their prices are great too! Highly recommend anyone to come here!

Perhaps this store is okay for gear, but be careful about getting advice from them regarding Mt. Shasta climbing. I’m not sure if their manager was experienced or not, but he gave us bad advice, grossly underestimating how long it takes to get to the summit from the clear creek trailhead. He also said the trailhead would be easy to find, but we got very lost because of the lack of road signs in the area. If this store doesn’t consider themselves authorities on the mountain, they should say so, because they aren’t just the general public. Perhaps this is the manager’s way of being encouraging to climbers, but that type of negligence is still dangerous.

Drove 3 hours to see Jesse their boot guy and was surprised by how good the service was. He has an in depth knowledge of the mechanics of the foot and stretched my mountaineering boots and made me custom insoles for a surprisingly low price. Shop folks very nice with a cool dog. 10/10 would use for all my winter sports needs, especially boots!

Friendly staff and A+ Service!I recently took my bicycle for servicing at The Fifth Season. I depend on my bicycle because I live locally and it is my primary source of transportation. Bicycle parts are scarce during the COVID-19 epidemic and the shops are booked. Kenji, helped me fix the tire on my bike and fixed it immediately because he knows that I depend on my bike. Since standard mountain bike tires are unavailable at this time, Kenji worked with another locally owned bike store to get the part. Kenji and Nate gave me excellent customer service, and although they are extremely busy, they friendly and professional. This is a wonderful shop that carries what you need for outdoor recreation in Mount Shasta and surrounding areas. They carry maps for climbing the mountain and have the information you need.

Bought a pair of ski boots and got great service—very friendly & knowledgeable staff. Good selection of really nice clothing & gear. If you want cheap stuff, this is where you go for quality products, not lowest prices.

Kenji and Jesse took care of me. Excellent customer service. Knowledgeable and did research to answer my questions. Spent quite a while with me fitting boots and looking at skis. I will be back to buy more.

Everything was great until ! I rented a pair of boots from them . Renter be aware ! If you rent boots to climb Mtn Shasta from this company you might as well stay in the parking lot at the Bunny Head . I climbed May 15th and there was a good amount of snow . Well it was slush going up and the boots that I rented did not hold up . Not even an hour into the climb on boots were soaked my feet were wet and cold not even that but after hours of climbing the wet boots ate my feet up with blisters . The assent climb the next day I couldn’t even put them on they were so wet. I had on Gaiters as well! It ruined my trip that I had planned for months and paid for and came from Florida tô California for . Very let down ! So when I went to return the equipment I spoke to two different employees. One told me they can’t guarantee that the boots wouldn’t get saturated. I was with 4 other guys and their boots were dry. I was really let down and a whole trip wasted over a pair of boots that were needless to say pathetic! To top it off they didn’t seem to care or even want to do anything about it . I mentioned they need to get better boots and throw the ones they had to rent away . Do not rent boots from this company !

This is a full service outdoor store geared to local outdoor activities that are in season. They are stocked for full mountaineering of Mt. Shasta, to basic trail hiking, to mountain biking, PCT through hiking and more. Oh and skis when in season too, and I probably missed something. I end up here about three times a year with some visits dialed into their stock and others for just cruising the shelves. The hiking shoe selection of men's and women's always impressed me the most. The staff is quite helpful and very knowledgeable on what they sell and rent.

I am in awe of how compassionate and good willed the beings are that work here. I had gotten a used bike that needed a good amount of work and all of it was handled with great care, kindness, and generosity. Kenji serviced my bike and also showed me how to use the different gears. I am grateful for his service as he is a bright light in this community!

I crawled into this shop as a ragged PCT thru-hiker with bad heel pain due to my own stupidity for wearing blown out insoles for hundreds of miles. “Please help me,” I called out tears rolling down my face. “Please, I need insoles.” A stream of golden light immediately hit the front counter as he himself, Jesse…or as he is known on the PCT…“Foot Jesus”, nodded…and said to me, “Take a seat.” I did as I was told, and took off my dusty shoes. Foot Jesus grabbed my feet looked at it and mumbled to himself. “Am I goner?” I thought to myself. I am blessed by the presence of Foot Jesus, no I have to be okay. He went into the back and after a few rounds of slapping various insoles onto my foot and some sort of fairy godfather magic, he placed the soles into my shoes and said “Try these on.” I slipped my foot into my shoes and that moment, I understood how Cinderella must have felt. Thank you Foot Jesus.

The store is the only game in town. And unfortunately, they know it. I've bought from them, including pricey stuff - their selection is quite good given the size eg if you need mountaineering boots. I was their fan. But on several occasions the staff has been anything from disinterested to rude; last time I visited I was actually told they're too busy giving us some rental boots to figure out sizing for a future trip. I recommend considering other choices before driving there (online, rei, sports limited in Redding, Sports basement in the bay area for gear rental, etc). I hope they improve or get some real competition.

Salesmen don’t know what they are talking about. Wasted $$ on shoes that wouldn’t ever work for a through hike. They do know that there is no snow in mount Shasta, though. And that is why it is shameful that they tell you that you must rent crampons and ice axes to go up now.

I thought the service here was great. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. I reserved some mountaineering gear online about a month before I was scheduled to climb, which was relatively easy to do. When I got there, the staff was helpful in letting me know what was needed for the mountain and had suggestions of what could be most helpful for me.

Great shop, great selection of gear. Really appreciated the owner taking the time to help me properly fit my boots with a super comfy pair of insoles. Climbed Shasta over the next three days and walked away with zero blisters. Highly recommend this place!

I really can’t say enough about this shop. I’m from out of town and was looking to find a good shop for boots, ski maintenance, and general advice. I have tried a number of places (including my local shop) only to feel pushed off. I have a budget and I’m not a pro skier. From my first phone call, to my in store experience, I was treated with patience and respect. I now am well fitted for boots, skies tuned, and a new place to return year after year. Thanks so much Fifth Season. I am now a loyal customer!

A very well stocked and we'll staffed store! They have all you need for just about all outdoor pursuits from mountain biking to mountaineering. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly, plus they have some great sales! If your looking for some information on the near by Mt. Shasta, they will happily help you out! Overall I highly recommend them!

Definitely the worst experience I have ever had at a gear shop. I missed my reservation (we were hoping to pick up the night before but arrived a touch late on our 12 hour drive to get there) and I heard a lot about it. They were genuinely upset that I missed my reservation and told me so. I was treated like a child. Go anywhere else.

Excellent little mountaineering gear shop. A friend of mine learned about this place while we were researching mountaineering boots. 3 of us took a 6-hour one way drive up from San Jose just to get fitted for boots. We spent 2-3 hours discussing boot science and getting by their expert boot fitter, Jacques. Time well spent I felt.

Pretty good store for outdoor gear, we came here to rent some crampons and an ice axe for my wife so we could climb Shasta. The thing that sets retail stores apart these days is the customer service, and this store had very little. The staff were quite rude and at times insulting, which is sad since everyone else we met in Mt Shasta village was extremely friendly.Ended up costing about $50 for crampons, ice axe and a helmet for my wife for the weekend.

I hiked the Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada in 2016 and heard a lot of good things about The Fifth Season in Mount Shasta from fellow hikers. I heard everything from good inventory to helping with warranty claims on gear not purchased in store. I decided to go in during a ski trip this year and enjoyed getting a pair of Darn Tough ski socks and seeing what it is all about. Good gear shops definitely deserve a mention. Thanks guys. The socks rock.

Mount Shasta is made more fun by having good gear! The Fifth Season Inc philosophy of successful competition with the online mammoth retailers is key and many companies should follow this example. Spend a bit more to positively affect the long-term effect of industry on us as a people. This is similar to the reasons to avoid companies having a monopoly where they control too much of a market and competition is quashed by dominance. When competition cannot thrive injustice gains power. When you buy based on lowest price only, you create injustice because you are supporting cutthroat methodology. When you support wisdom in operations and people earning right living, you generate good karma and help fight the ripcurl that will haunt many as the giant companies become more controlled by AI (artificial intelligence) applied through performance evaluating metrics that are then used by corporate directors to make decisions impacting millions of people.Mount Shasta is made more fun by having good gear! Fifth Season has most angles covered and is also a great source of dialed adventure info.Haiku: (lines contain syllables 5,7,5)Early sunrise light show,Our food steams over bright fireHawk calls pierce the sky

Couldn't disagree more with the review by Mike Afflan. This shop is run by the nicest folks you could imagine. Super helpful with info and beta about the mountain whether you are buying anything or not. Nice selection of top end equipment at surprisingly competitive prices. Impressive array of boot brands for sale. And a fantastic boot fitter named Jacques who expertly bumped out / stretched my La Sportiva Baruntse right boot (my right foot is wider) and did a perfect job of heat molding the inner boots. Great service, fair prices.

Must stop when doing anything involving Mt. Shasta. They basically helped me figure out all the logistics of my climb when I got there. They didn't even try to sell me anything. I bought a hat just because they were so helpful. I wouldn't have been able to summit without the advice I got at the store. Not too many stores with this level of service left in the world. Keep up the good work.

The go-to backpacking outfitter for the area. Excellent gear, rentals, and above all their staff is awesome. Very knowledgeable and helpful. Fifth Season is what every REI/other outfitter should aim to be like!
