I want to Thank Second Chance for all they do. I have never been to the shelter but my boy Kona has. He was transported from them to Family Dogs New Life Shelter back in 2016. Kona is my best friend and only child. If it wasn’t for you guys he would never have found his way to me. So I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart. For what you do day in and day out to save these beautiful babies.PS. I believe you named him Buster and he was found as a stray in July 2016.

Was told adoption was going to be free. It wasn’t.We still took the dog. Was told they were going to cover the neutering that it was going to be free they only covered for small pup. I had to pay the balance. It’s not that I couldn’t afford it it’s just that they do not stand by what they say.& they never answer the phone.

These bums that work here can’t pick up loose dogs off the street but will take your dogs if they like them. Absolutely useless.

Haven’t seen since 2019-2020 and it is over capacitated at its fullest and most of the animals are living in filth. Also joined my brother on a dog search a few weeks ago, he had picked a dog and he was covered in (mud, feces, & other filth) & also was severely dehydrated & he was extremely skinny. We had then paid the $200 + fees for him while he was filthy and underfed dramatically and took him home, soon after he had runny diarrhea with bits of blood in it. He wouldn’t also eat but he drank 2 full bowls of water and threw them up 30 mins after. I had also looked up symptoms to parvo because it sounded familiar and he seemed to have a lot of the symptoms. I have a dog at home and I’ve been paranoid if I brought it back home. I hope one of your absent employees will read this and please take care better care of these dogs, it is awful and it hurts my heart to see them in these conditions.

Just wanted to let you guys know, I just saw two small light brown dogs almost get hit on rose they were walking from Thompson. They were also with a large brownish momma dog that still looks like she’s been nursing. They’ve been around for more than a couple weeks.

Called them since 12 pm .. when they open, since they are only open for 4 hrs. Told them about a dead animal on the road. They kept telling me someone is on the way. NEVER HAPPENED.... I wish you the same in life as you put in you're work.

Dog was matted head to toe. Ear wax was so built that it was the size of a marble, the Vet will need to cut them out. Groomer won't touch him, no Rabie shots. The smell was over powering, we both had head aches after we left.

They got a call for two loose dogs but we are pretty sure they picked up the wrong one. This dog was taken from her home. She gets out but only wanders a few houses down. The owners try their best to fix the fence so she can’t get out but she’s a smart dog and finds a way out to wander. She always she goes back home though and was basically four houses away from her home. We tried to explain that. They didn’t want to hear it. They are supposed to reunite people with their pets but to them it’s, in their words, “their job”. To me it seems they want a pay day. If that was my dog, he got out, and he was a few houses down and my neighbor was trying to explain he lived here, I would hope they would be kind enough to come at least ask if he was mine or notify me that they were taking him. If it’s just a “job” to them then they need a new one because our pets are our family.

The best. Didn't give me a hard time or lecture. Lucky got out, they found him and I was able to pick him up. So happy he's back home. Thanks everyone. You did a great job. Very friendly people. Clean kennels. Caring and supportive staff.

I hate to rate a shelter so low, but 5 months ago I went and adopted a kitten there and was extremely displeased with how it was all handled. The kitten is doing amazing and he will be turning 6 months old soon. When I went to adopt, I called ahead of time to set an appointment and asked to see 2 kittens that were held in foster homes at the time, I was told that at my appointment they would have the 2 kittens I wanted to see. I showed up and called them to be let in and at first no one answered me for almost 10 minutes. Then when I was let in I was told that the 2 kittens I had asked about again that morning, one had been adopted a week prior and the foster parents of the other one had decided to keep her a few days prior. Luckily there were a few there I could see. I was told only one was able to be adopted and taken home that day, the others were too young. When I asked to see the one that was old enough, I was showed the kitten I now own, Stormy. He was 5 weeks old and was able to be taken home just because he could eat solid food. He was the only cat in the cage and even that building, he was completely alone and surrounded by dogs otherwise. After deciding I was going to adopt Stormy, I went to look at the others because I was looking for 2 kittens. I soon decided I only wanted the one kitten so we went back to do the paperwork, that's was when the man said "oh let me just go make sure this kitten hasn't already been preadopted." Um excuse me you shouldn't show kittens that have already been adopted to people looking to adopt, thankfully for me he wasn't. After that display I was very displeased and just wanting to get the paperwork done and take my new kitten out of there. Low and behold, the man didn't even sign my adoption papers himself. He had told me that because the Stormy was too young at the time that I could either bring him back when he was about 6 month old and they would fix him, or that I could take him somewhere else and they would cover $50 of that price. I today was trying to schedule him for an appointment to get fixed since he is turning 6 month old soon and had set up an appointment with my kittens' current vet. I called the shelter to see about them helping with the $50 coverage I was told they would do, when I talked to someone over the phone I was told that "I don't know who it was that told you that, but we dont do that. You can take him back here and we can get you a certificate with the information from us to the place in Selma to fix him" well ok ya but I don't ever want to take my baby back to you from how you treated everything the first time i was there. I am very displeased with how my situation was handled, but after the first time I can't say I'm surprised.

I adopted my kitten from here I am very disappointed with this shelter. The people are weird the main lady kept laughing at everything she did and One of guys looked like he hated his job. When it came time for me to do paper work and then to give my kitty a vaccine they didn’t even vaccinate her right! They punctured the skin so the medicine came right out because of not being vaccinated right so they had to do it again and they were laughing about it which isn’t funny at all. This is only the beginning! So I adopted my kitten well I was told ahead of time she had a respiratory infection and she was on antibiotics well this clear they were not giving her medicine because I took her home and the next day she couldn’t even open her eyes she had discharge at the eyes and nose and was sneezing heavily I had only had my kitten for about 3 weeks and I have had to take her to the vet atleast twice and the vet also told me she has 2 virus that she is going to have forever and we can never cure. I love my kitten to death but I am highly disappointed in this shelter for adopting out sick animals that is very sad and wrong. They’re we’re about 5 other kittens in the cage with her and I’m sure they have the same virus she has. I feel bad for the animals here someone needs to do something about this !

I have to say, its a shame that REBECCA isn't full time there any more!! She is the best and has made Selma and its pet issues much much better. She brought on the cats too! Sad that politics changed that...

Called a couple days ago about a stray dog, left message and still haven't received call back. Poor customer service apparently. All these animal places want you to donate and help, but you get nothing in return

We’ve left message after message and no one has called back or even answered, we’re serious about adopting, but doesn’t seem like they care enough to get back to potential pet parents, it’s disheartening. Shows lack of seriousness on their end.

No help whatsoever when it comes to answering my questions, all they did was send me off to a different person. Bad service.

It pains me to think that a place that is for the wellbeing of animals, and how the separation of a pet can hurt can be so unwilling to help.My stepdaughter's dog (which she bottle fed when she rescued it as a puppy when he was abandoned 5 years ago) unfortunely got out of the back yard from her house located in Fowler... She posted on social media for help in locating him, and through people willing to help reunite her with her dog she found out that he was taken to "Second Chance Animal Shelter Of Selma"... Unfortunely he was not chipped and he is an inside dog, The lady she spoke to told her that they had already given up her dog for adoption to a family and refused to help her in reuniting her with her dog...It does not matter to them that this is her dog, who she raised like I said from early on by bottle feeding him and taking care of him the best she could. He is a Chihuahua mix male dog beige/brown in color, his name is Dallas... He has a family, he has a loving home, he is missed beyond possible, and my stepdaughter is hurting because she feels that she has lost a part of her.By denying her help in trying to reunite a lost pet with his family, you are letting the people that adopted him to build a bond in which is unfair to them as well because Dallas already has a family and a home that is empty without him.I hope you do what is right, and help in reuniting him with his family, instead of taking money from people who adopt a pet, to unbeknownst to them your company tried nothing in locating his home. This will also be provided to the media outlets and we will not rest until Dallas is reunited with his mom, at his home, with his family.

Horrible place and staff is a joke. I feel bad for the poor animals, that place needs people who care about animals and not leave them in hot kennels for hours!
