I have purchased chicks from Alchemist Farm three different times with a fourth order pending for April ‘24. We have had over 100 chicks and can say they are the best - the demeanor of the birds, quality of the stock (feathers and size), and production are top notch. Even the roosters are amazing!

I purchased hatching eggs from this farm, when my hen was broody for the first time. 3 of the 5 hatched (excellent odds), one azure egger female and a male and female BCM. These are incredible birds, the BCM’s in particular are my very favourite. Hands down the best rooster I’ve ever had (he sadly passed away due to illness, but I WILL be searching out another boy from them when I can) and am hoping to get chicks from them again soon.Francesca was also very easy to communicate with, I was shocked at how fast, and helped me decided which eggs (and how many) I should get. I adore that they are local to me, and I love their mission and ethics. Wonderful farm=incredible birds. Highly recommend.

So glad I found Alchemist Farms! Franchesca and her family take the utmost care in their birds and it clearly shows in everything they do. Being a no kill hatchery was something I was looking for once I found out the realities of big hatcheries. What they do for the community and the birds is commendable. I cannot recommend them enough if you want to get chicks shipped to you. Their birds are so healthy and strong. They ship with heat and nutrients and they all made it safely here. They are all laying strong now and the colors of the eggs are so vibrant. Everything I was hoping for and more. Super dark chocolates, dark greens, lighter green, green blues and speckles! Can’t wait to add more to our flock from Alchemist Farms!

I have bought from Francesca(alchemist farm) for the past several years. They are by far my most favorite farm to deal with. I was on the search for high quality chickens for me to raise that were wonderful examples of the standard for colored egg layers. They have the best birds around!! I used to only get hatchery chicks because of the cheap prices but too many times have they just randomly died.. but it’s sooo much more worth it to pay the extra money for alchemists farm chicks! So healthy and the BEST colored eggs you can imagine. My whole flock will soon be only alchemist farm chicks!

I have been following Alchemist Farm for a couple of years now on IG & I just ordered & received my chicks today & I am SOOOO excited! I LOVE what the farm is doing, & how they raise & treat their animals & what they are doing to better our beautiful world! Franchesca Duvall and Alchemist Farms are amazing! Thank you for packing our chicks with special care and ensuring they were cozy & warm with a hydration/food source. We just got out second flock from Alchemist Farm. Our first flock we got in 2019, we still have 11 out of 13, lost one to a coyote and one to a hawk. Alchemist breeds are the best. Well temperaments, great layers and lots of colors. Highly recommend them. Franchesca is so great to deal with too.

I highly recommend Alchemist Farms! Last winter I ordered chicks for spring, and I received them—all healthy and safe—as scheduled in April. I’m a first-time chicken owner, and Franchesca has been super helpful throughout this process—from choosing breeds to caring for them as chicks, and beyond. I've picked up chicks from Alchemist twice (8 total), and haven't lost a chick! Just keep an eye out for pasty butt. I can't have roosters in my city, so I have all 3 of their guaranteed female breeds. The eggs are gorgeous and they really care about breeding friendly, healthy birds. I'll never get chicks from a commercial breeder again.

Not only are they amazing to work with, kind and wonderful to their chicks, chickens and community but they also have healthy chicks that have grown up to feed my family the most colorful and delicious eggs we’ve ever had. Don’t order from Alchemist unless you want a surprise box and truly don’t care what you get - and definitely not if you plan on breeding. We ordered 6 French Black Copper Marans, 6 Sage Eggers, and 6 Welsummers. 2 Chicks arrived looking like they’d been put in the box wet. When they started to look like they’d make it, I reached out to Franchesca because there were actually 3 splash looking chicks, which I wasn’t expecting. She said it was “possible” they’d subbed in some Isbars for Sage Eggers if they were low & congratulated me on the upgrade - leaving me to have to indicate that I wasn’t happy about this & having to request a refund (substitutions are not mentioned on the site; she did refund those 4 chicks). When I expressed concern that the rest of the chicks weren’t right either (NPIP cert did say 6 of each of 3 breeds), she told me send some photos and she’d ID them. First she told me the black were FBCM, the white were Isbar, and the chipmunk were Welsummer - OK so 8 Welsummers? - then she backtracked and said 2 chipmunk were Sage and 6 were Welsummer - which ones? - then she finally said that she couldn’t tell the difference between Sage, Welsummer, Bielefelder, and Azure. So when the birds matured, it became very clear that I’d gotten 5 Bielefelder - including a rooster, and Azure Egger/some other cross. It took a lot of back and forth to request the refund for those 6 birds. So, out of 18 - a full 10 chicks were not what I’d ordered (a lot of time and money raising birds I hadn't wanted). Of the Marans, only 1 of our of 4 hens lays darker than a 4 on the Marans egg chart. The Isbars, which are actually Silverudd’s Blue - are dilute splash with serious flaws (red eyes) and laying a medium egg with slightly green tint - I’m not going to bother testing them but I’d guess that they only have one blue egg gene. Please do not order Marans or Silverudd’s Blue if you want quality birds - there are good breeders out there. Based on the breeding of these birds, I am not surprised to see people in reviews indicating that the Alchemist “lines” aren’t producing the egg color they expected. Please check out reviews on Backyardchickens before you order from Alchemist. I really wish I hadn’t relied on the google reviews. I’ve since ordered from other small hatcheries, and I note that the NPIP cert has always matched the order, even when extra chicks were added - and there’s always been communication around my preference to substitute or reduce the order when the hatch wasn’t as expected.
