I had the worst experience with this shelter after I adopted our little one. I was told to return on that Saturday for a teeth cleaning that our fur baby needed and was even given instructions on what to do before the appointment. I emailed the clinic the next day to confirm the appointment a few days before, as I live 40 minutes away. The clinic had emailed me back stating that they don't have any appointments for her. I then called the shelter and the staff member once again stated that in the dogs chart it did state a teeth cleaning was scheduled however she will need to return my call for verification. I received a call from Aubrey the manager within the shelter stating that there was a miscommunication. In her chart it stated she did need a cleaning and they would of gone ahead and got it done but only if she was still in their care. She then proceeded to rudely say, "Do you want to return her? Either way she'll be adopted with or without a cleaning". Moreover, I asked whether she was part of the Santa Barbara County Shelter as I've never been treated in such a disrespectful manner. When asked this question, she said "Well, we are in Santa Barbara County" completely ignoring the fact I was inquiring about their connection to the County shelters.Being a first time pet owner and first time adoption parent, I thought this experience overall would have been wonderful and fulfilling. I love our new pet and love that she has been given a new home; however, it is still very frustrating to have to deal with this experience, especially given this negatively affects our pet's dental health.I'd also like to add this review in no way pertains to the services provided at the clinic. They've been really helpful in answering my questions and following up with me. A completely different experience than what I've endured with the shelter.

I LoVe taking my dogs here for all vet related needs. Spay service is cheap, safe, fast, and gentle. I took my $2,500 purebred Lab here to be spayed for under $150. My regular vet quoted me over $1,200!!! I take my 14 yr old Heinz 57 ultra sensitive senior mutt here too. They are always very gentle with her. This is the ONLY place I trust to take my senior dog to for vet needs. Every other place has hurt her. Save money and use Santa Maria Humane Society as your vet.

I have been considering getting a new pet dog after my last one passed away and was very hesitant to go to the humane society because I was afraid I was going to fall in love with every single dog there and feel very sad.That was not the case at all the staff was very very helpful they told me about each of the dogs and the kennels were very clean.I did do a meet greet with one dog and even though she was a sweet girl, she was not the one for me.I have not found my forever friend yet but it was definitely some place that I will go back to.I am now ready and I'll keep looking until I find the right Forever friend!

I wasn’t going to make this post but I feel that it is important to voice my experience with the services through this organization. I enrolled my puppy in the puppy classes here a couple months ago. I am also a disabled veteran so I informed the staff prior to enrolling in hopes that’s this class would be easy for me and my puppy to follow along with. I attended the first couple classes and had a horrible experience with not only the class but the man who ran the class, Joe. Another male dog in the class was in heat and kept trying to mount my 4 month old puppy. My puppy did not understand what was going on and instead of trying to ease the dogs behavior or the situation, the instructor made a disgusting comment “stop being a tease….” while smirking at me like he was pleased with himself. Not only did this cause further issues between me and the owner of the male dog but the owner tried to say that my dog wanted it, even though her dog kept trying to aggressively bite and mount my puppy. The whole situation eventually escalated to a hostile environment for me and my puppy. I eventually stopped going after three classes not only because of the other dog but because the instructors behavior towards the whole situation was unprofessional and disgusting. He made me feel very uncomfortable and unsafe around him and in his class, I personally would not recommend these puppy courses to anyone. I’m pretty sure anyone in my situation would have reacted the same if not worse. Additionally, my puppy started picking up negative behaviors from the other puppies, making it harder for me to train her:

I went yesterday to adopt a dog and had the worst customer service experience. A lady in the front ( blonde hair) was very rude and creepy ! She acted like she knew me, spoke to another person there about my child , making comments like if she knew who my child was ! It was the weirdest experience ! I didn’t leave with a dog but it definitely discourages one to adopt a dog rather than take a different route. I went to save a dog, lady! Not to be commented and judged as if you know who I am. So weird !!! I’m super creeped out.

We recently adopted our sweet Lucy from the SM Humane Society. She is an amazing little girl and we feel so blessed to have her as part of our family. The staff is extremely helpful and professional at the shelter and made the adoption process very easy.

Staff was Great. But I would suggest they would have Dogs And Cats scheduled on different days.my personal opinion. I would think it would be better for cats not to be so stressed out.

We took our dog in for his rabies shot and his to have his nails clipped . Really can't say enough about how professional and thoughtful that the staff was. They took their time very good with our dog and answered all our questions.

Miracle workers is how I feel about this clinic. I brought my 5 year old pit in with a stomach problem, he was refusing to eat and was vomiting any water he would drink he was very weak when I brought him in and our family was very worried. I was referred to them by Care 4 Paws. The doctor talked to me personally and asked me what was going on and they took him in on short notice and really helped me out. The doctor was comforting and gave me full details on what our options would be and really felt like she cared for my dog. The techs also showed so much care and compassion for him. I cannot stress how well my dog was looked after while in there care. I am so grateful the doctor was able to perform an emergency surgery and see my dog do so much better after. He is still recovering but he is happy and not in pain when we first brought him in. Thank you Santa Maria Humane for all you did for RENGO and for all you continue to do for other pets. The staff at Santa Barbara Humane Society on the Santa Maria campus is the most friendly and caring group of people I have met in a long time. They take the extra time to explain their process of how adoptions work and give you all the information you need to make an intelligent decision on when and how to adopt an animal. My visit to the Santa Maria campus to see what kittens were available went very smoothly and efficiently. Being a retired veteran gives you the perk of one free adoption!! I was glad to hear that!! I got the opportunity to visit with and spend time with the adoptable kittens and pick one out. Once the kitten is spayed and seen by the vet, she can come home with me. Love this location! The staff cares about each animal and makes sure the adoption goes smoothly for all those concerned.

What a living nightmare experience. We had been trying to re home our pet boxer for a couple months because we we’re moving out of state and couldn’t take him. We had no luck finding anyone who could take him. There is a questionnaire on their website for emergency help in re homing dogs and you will hear back with help within 24 hr. filled it out and nothing I also sent a separate email asking for help and nothing. So last resort we had to take our dog in to surrender the morning of moving what an awful experience. My husband asked if they received our emails and they said they couldn’t find them. They were so rude to my husband not helping like they are supposed to and said they need to evaluate our dog first they brought out a little dog and we’re triggering our boxer. They said he was vicious and would have to be put down. So we felt backed into a corner and went through with it. God have mercy on us. These evil people that work here told my kids that my husband was making our dog act violent so he could just be put down. Not true. They said my husband was rushing them with paper work so he can be done with it. Not true. SMVHS are not here to HELP you they are against you and caused major division in my family.We gave our dog a great life and would never have thought SMVHS would say that’s your only option. My God. These people are NOT here to HELP you in any way.

Truly unbelievable and perfect adoption experience. My new BFF hasn't left my side or sight since the first walk.He's now in training to be a service/therapy ptsd dog and will be wonderful for it. They were very kind to Emmie. The exam rooms were not very clean at all. I think that this is important. Because of spreading diseases. But they were very kind to Emmie and she was abused very badly. She needs to be around people who are patient and kind. And thats what you get there. I am very grateful for the low cost shots and their kindness towards Emmie. I just wish it was cleaner.

They have a 10 minute late policy that i unfortunately found out about the hard way.Still practicing covid policies, so I wasn't able to go in with my cat who was suffering a injury from a cat fight. Staff is very friendly courteous. I waited in my car until they were done with the exam. When I came out to pick up my kitty they explained everything in detail what they did for him what kind of medication how long it would take and what to look for if there was any problems and if so I can just bring him back.I'm working on a strict budget like most of us are, the Humane Society staff are very nice and understanding and were able to work with me.I left there feeling happy and confident that my beloved pet was treated for his injuries and was on his way to recovery. It's been about 2 weeks and he is happy and healthy playful again. I would recommend going to the Humane Society for your pets health and wellness needs.

The facility is beautiful and the staff at the facility was caring and welcoming. Also listened to information about our furbaby Snuggles. It was so easy to complete his vaccinations and get his license.Thank you to the staff who took care of us❤️Inquiring about an appt and services offered by phone was not pleasant. The person I spoke with was very abrupt when I asked a couple of questions about services. Her tone was unfriendly. Otherwise I would have rated this business a "5".

Y'all told me if I took my dog to the vet y'all would leave us alone. But y'all decide to take my best friend because he in pain but the vet could of given antibiotics for his ear.its not my fault the doctor didn't do anything but look at him for a second. Your solution is to l put my dog in the cold pound because he is pain does that make sense to anyone. If he can eat and play im pretty sure he is ok but oh that's not good enough we have to take your dog from you because you weren't ready to put him down and now I might not get to see my dog again... Always genuinely genial, knowledgeable, and helpful. I don't know who has had "trouble getting into..." unless it was during the whole pandemic thing, at which point what the heck was easy? We have adopted pets here and brought in pets for medical care. Never any problems, even when things didn't go as planned. Great folks!

I Recently took my Corgi here to get spayed. The vet nurses were very nice and helpful. When I came back to pick up my corgi after her spay appointment the vet nurses were very gentle and caring. They even trimmed my dogs nails, for free, usually something you would pay for. Overall very friendly staff.
