Excellent stay. Great pricing. We stayed in the middle of the week so that's cheaper than prime rates. Beach view from bay windows. The rooms didn't have a microwave or refrigerator. At least ours didn't, but the pricing was great. If this is a deal breaker you might want to call ahead to see if they offer rooms with these amenities. There's a restaurant with a full bar and a store on the campus you can walk to without leaving the parking lot. There's also a pool here.Noteworthy details: Full bar if you drink. We don't.Pool.Restaurant on site with 10% discount for key holders.Convenience store on site.Ocean views. No fridge or microwave.

I decided to spend the weekend in Cambria and was looking to stay at The Morgan, which I usually do, but they were way to expensive.San Simeon Lodge had a great deal for 2 nights, so I and a friend decided to take a chance with this hotel.Overall, we’re very impressed with the quality and service. For the price, it was fantastic! I would love to stay here again.Pros- Queen suites are renovated with fresh paint, new carpet, and clean furniture. Our room was on the 1st floor and had a fantastic view of the ocean. Take in mind though that these rooms DO face the parking lot, so you’ll get cars obstructing the view sometimes. This wasn’t a problem for us since we were out most of the day and only at the hotel early morning and evening. It was actually convenient to park our car so close to our room.- Bathrooms are clean and spacious. Although our water faucet was mislabeled (cold water was actually hot and vice versa), what mattered most was that there was no mold or mildew in the shower stall, which I’m a huge stickler about. The bathroom could use a heater, but if you heat up the main room the heat will seep through the door, so it’s ok- Comfortable! Beds were not too firm or soft, but “just right”, as Goldliocks would say- Pet friendly! Our dog enjoyed the ocean view as much as we did.- Friendly, welcoming, and accommodating staff who answered our smallest requests – they brought us hot water for tea, gave us extra keys, and even upgraded us to a larger room for a lower price.Cons- King rooms are outdated, old, and smelly. We were originally put in a king room, but had to switch since the fire alarm had dead batteries. Good thing we did! Unfortunately, the rooms are not as nice as the one’s with queen beds.- Everything was tranquil and quiet until two loud women moved in next door on our second day. They were causing a nuisance after "quiet hours", so we asked the hotel manager for help. He was able to settle them down for an hour or so, but then they started their antics again and did not stop until 3 am. I wish the manager was more firm with these guests, since they caused quite a disturbance and prevented us from sleeping.- Bar & Grill doesn’t have the best breakfast. Vouchers are good for saving money, but be prepared for a sub-par meal. The Cavalier across the road has amazing food for the same price!

We loved it here. It was so close to all the attractions we wanted to visit! The price was very affordable compared to Ragged Point Inn when we first looked hotels to stay in. Ragged Point is only 20mins away, Hearst Castle, Elephant seal beach was also on the way to Ragged Point. So why spend $200+ a night when you'll only be 20mins away in San Simeon Lodge also with a beach front view. The Lodge is only 4 miles from some nice restaurants. Also, nice restaurants across from the Lodge! we'll definitely be returning to this place... Highly Recommend this placeAAAA++++

Stayed in December and it was great — the restaurant is really good and the rooms are big and quite clean. Would stay here again as it’s so close to the elephant seals and Hearst Castle. Also get 10 percent off at the restaurant.Nearby activities: Close to elephant seals and Hearst castle. Great viewsFood & drinks: Great restaurant and you get 10 percent off staying there

Great views, easy to find, easy check-in. Rooms are older, but clean. Bed was comfy. Great rate and discount at their restaurant (sadly, we didn't have time to eat there). Would definitely stay there again.Nearby activities: Hearst Castle and elephant seal sanctuary are a must see!

My second time in San Simeon.Location is great and the lodge offers the essentials at a fair price.Negative was that the shower didn't work properly. The water saver shirt head was not properly maintained and not sufficient water came through. And the "excess" water came out the tub faucet, eliminating the water saving idea.Or check in had a bit of a hiccup, we arrived 10m before office closing but it was already closed. After phone calls we got our login codes to the keybox. It would have been great to get a message before.Rooms: Solid rooms but the upkeep is neglected

The room wasn't pleasant. The shower valve was very difficult to turn on, the sheets had a stain on them, the headboard was was also stained. To top it off, my kid want to go in the pool (which is advertised as heated) and it definitely wasn't, which sucked. So when I checked out I told the staff how I felt and they said the manager would call, which he never did. Sooo all in all, not a terrible experience. Just very outdated and old, run down type of place with management not caring about their customers.

I was interested in two hotels in San Simeon, CA and I chose this hotel for my family and I, because the pictures gave the impression it was nice hotel to stay. The employees were very nice but the rooms definitely need some improvement. When we arrived we had to be switched to a second room because one of the beds was very dirty and the room smelled like smoke and mildew. The second room was not any better but a little better but still smelled, the beds were so uncomfortable, they sank into the middle. It was a good location as far as the scenery but unfortunately we will not stay here again. The price was too much for this hotel. I guess it was an experience we learned.

CONS: One of the two beds was broken and you could only use one side. There were ants in the bathroom. The floor was absolutely disgusting. Do not walk barefoot on it! Walking from the bathroom after showing to the bed near the door made the bottom of my feet black. Everyone in my party commented about the nastiness of the floors. In one of the two rooms we rented, the door handle was put on upside down, so you had to remember to lift up to get into the room. The pool is definitely not heated!! False advertising for sure!! If it is, it's not heated enough for the kids to actually swim in it. That's a huge reason that we chose this hotel for our trip, and then we couldn't even use it because it was so cold. The restaurant is ridiculously expensive and the food was sub par.PROS: There were little patio sets with umbrellas in front of our rooms and we were able to let the toddler play in the rocks and sand after a day of fun while relaxing with the room doors open behind us and looking at the ocean. It was fantastic. It was also lovely to enjoy a quiet cup of coffee out there at 5am.The location is the BEST part of this lodge. The staff was friendly, but the hotel is very run down and dirty.Nearby activities: San Simeon State Park, Hearst Beach, is a few miles up the road and is a wonderful play beach for families. Not crowded like Pismo and not windy like Avila, but the lack of affordable restaurants for large families was a little disheartening. There is an old light house close by but it wasn't open while we were there. We needed children's tylenol early in the morning and there were actually 2 stores open in Cambria at 6am and both had it and were super friendly. Nice area and nice people.Walkability: There is arestaurant attached to the hotel, as well asa market. There is another market directly in front of the hotel. You have to cross hwy 1 to get to the beach, so we drove because we have a small child and an elderly grandma. Able bodied adults could easily walk across as traffic is sparse most of the day; or while we were there anyway. It was easy to find parking and it was very close to the trail, but it was a trescherous walk down to the beach for grandma. The toddler did just fine but he did slip a few times. It was very steep with uneven ground, and a mix of sand, dirt, pebbles and rocks.

Do not stay here! The pictures look way better online and this hotel is absolutely terrible. Old, dilapidated, dirty, humid in the room, and has bugs. We stayed for one night and found a cockroach on our bed. The hotel said they'd approve a refund the next Monday and didn't take the initiative to. I had to reach out to the booking agent to take care of it later. Unapologetic about the whole situation which definitely means this happens often. I've worked in the hotel industry and this place is truly a rip off and should be closed down. Truly disappointed. This place even had writing on the wall by the lamps. Lastly, the walls are thin and you can hear everything around you. Super weird hotel. Do not stay here.Rooms: Absolutely disgusting and not updated in any way. 1990s dirty furniture everywhere with bugs in the room.

We stayed 3 nights. had to change rooms. Our room was not clean and smelled musty. carpet was moist. maybe a leak, not sure. very unhappy. will not be staying here again. Luis was accommodating and changed us to a different room after we complained and said they would be replacing carpet in room 127. gave us a free breakfast.

Very well kept premises. For the price it wasn’t bad. Read a lot of reviews and expected much less than what it was. Definitely needs a refresher in the way of decoration and also needs new carpet really bad. Very musty without windows open. Had a small fan which didn’t help much. Would’ve been a lot better with AC in the rooms.Rooms: Rooms were clean, needs to be redecorated with a modern feel. Definitely needs new carpet. Doesn’t have AC which is needed in these rooms. Even thought the weather is nice it was still very muggy and musty in the room so that would make the stay more enjoyable. Beds were comfy.Nearby activities: Hearst Castle close by, pier also not far. Loved going across the street and enjoying the fire pits by the beach at the Cavalier access.Safety: Felt pretty safe leaving my car in the parking lot and even felt safe with leaving the windows open during the night to get some air in the room.Walkability: Loved the location. Able to walk to some convenient places around you (liquor store, restaurants, beach access)Food & drinks: Lounge looked nice, went to check out the food menu. Pretty pricey for what it is. I expected more reasonable food options for the place. Love that it has a pool table and area was big and clean.

The staff was very friendly, and the location was great, but, honestly, the room for the price was criminal. $175.00 a night got me a dank walk in closet sized room with scuffed and scratches up furniture, paper thin walls and ceiling, curtains that were hanging off and a bed so old and bouncy I literally couldn't sleep. The base boards were covered in dirt and scuff marks. It also had a cloth headboard. Gross! The tile in the bathroom is dingy, and the shower could use an upgrade. The restaurant had mediocre overpriced food, and the bartender was friendly, but i asked him to surprise me with something fruity, and he refused. I've never met a bartender who's not eager to show off their mixing skills. I had to tell him exactly what to put in my cocktail. This place is in DIRE need of some MAJOR upgrades. I think with the right funding, vision and owner, it could live up to its location. We won't be returning.Walkability: Right across from the beach, bar and restaurants. A few minutes drive from Hearst castle.Food & drinks: Mediocre taste. Expensive price.

It's a lodge in a beach town so the rooms are totally fine and serviceable, clean, comfortable. Some have a pool view, some have an ocean view. The location is great, free parking. The on-site restaurant has a full menu for every meal which beats a long wait at a restaurant in town. The lounge has a full bar, plenty of room, a pool table, and good music. Kind of a kitchy, old fashioned place, but they do a nice job of keeping it up and making you feel comfortable. Nice staff and service with a smile. We'll be back, especially when we return to Hearst Castle for another tour. Note to self: September's a good time to go there, great weather that time of year

What an amazing experience. Getting close to Cambria, I start looking for hotels, and san Simeon lodge seem the best deal. I decided to call directly the motel instead of booking online and I’m so glad I did it. Mr Joel, got me even a better deal then the online one, so we even decided to stay a second day. Location = amazing, rooms = great, service = impeccable. Any time you visit San Simeon Lodge, look for Joel, he it’s the best !

I stayed at the San Simeon Lodge for the weekend. It's a fine little hotel close to the ocean. Rooms are okay, nothing fancy but they were clean and beds were comfortable. Our room had a mini fridge that worked great and actually fit a lot ofRooms: Our room was really clean. The shower/tub could use a upgrade. The room has a mini fridge that surprisingly held quite a bit, it also had a coffee maker, hair dryer, sitting area (table & 2 chairs), 2 closets and pretty much everything you'd expect. It's not a super fancy hotel but the rooms are spotless and it's quiet.Nearby activities: It's very close to Herst castle, right down the road from the sea lions, tons of beach access areas, so much to do. Perfect location.Walkability: You can pretty much walk anywhere in the little town.Food & drinks: The restaurant is pretty expensive and food wasn't all that great.

Very nice hotel in San Simeon, close to the Elephant Seal vista point, San Simeon Pier and Hearst Castle. The rooms are clean, spacious and modern, as well as the bathroom. There is lots of parking available, a swimming pool and a restaurant, with nice food at reasonable prices.Recommended if you are looking for an accommodation in the area.

Very basic and dated rooms, but well enough equipped and comfortable. Pillows needed some help, they're pretty flat and either old or cheaper.Staff very friendly but definitely understaffed. Can take a moment to find someone or get service. On site restaurant was delicious, if pricey.Room rate was amazing, given the view and bring able to hear the ocean but cracking the window. Will definitely return.

The restaurant at the lodge makes the best breakfast. It's hard to find a place to eat in this area when you have no reception or are not familiar with the area. The rooms were clean, but just very outdated. The room was decorated like the 80's-90's. I wore my sandals in the hotel until I got into bed. It's hard to sanitize carpets in hotels. The blow drier is so old it went dead while I was trying to dry my hair. This was the perfect distance to walk/drive to the beach across the street and close enough to drive to Hurst Castle.Walkability: You can walk to the beach.Food & drinks: The Lodge has great food with a large menu.

The room was very dated. The carpet was very dirty as noticed when walking from the shower towards the door, my family noticed their feet were black as if we walked across the asphalt parking lot barefoot. This was in ONE trip across the room! This is not an exaggeration. Clearly this was a cumulative issue. We cut our stay short as this was unacceptable. Cleanliness is a 101 expectation in ANY lodging. We will not stay here again. I would give this zero stars.

I like staying here as I feel cozy nestled with a lovely view of the sea and mountains surrounding. Walk across the street and there's the easy access beach! The price is right, but I do wish it were maintained a little better. The staff are super nice and accommodating and the lodge has good food with good ambiance and ocean view indoor and out.

Stayed here on a weekday into a weekend day. Pricing was very good. The Lodge is set up with a decent size parking lot. We were able to park in front of our 1st floor room. The main building has a large lobby, exercise room, and 1 washer/dryer outside the main building. There is also the restaurant and convenience store (which leaks in the rain) on site. The employees were very nice (in the restaurant and lobby), this is a plus!!! It's definitely a no frills room, small closet with hangers and a suitcase rack. Our room had a plug-in fan in there. The bathroom had a hair dryer, plenty of towels for 2. The room also had a small fridge and a wall heater/air unit. motel is definitely older - the furniture reminiscent of the 80s trying to do art deco. Lots of badly patched screw/nail holes in the wall. The cord for the coffee maker didn't reach the outlet it was closest to, so it had to be moved, no big. The room was satisfactorily clean, but our bathroom window did not latch and was wide open upon our arrival. Tile was also still wet from last people just outside the shower along the grout. So could use some maintenance or a room refresh. If you stay on the 1st floor and are unfortunate enough to have elephants stay above you, my condolences. This place has no sound dampening- could hear the guy next door as well. Thankfully, the zoo animals (read: loud people) went to bed at a reasonable hour (not blaming the motel for this but just saying the motel is not built in a way you won't hear neighbors if they are not courteous). The bed was comfortable, and we both slept well. No real ocean views, FYI. It's not the Taj Mahal, but it is convenient to stay here for access to local attractions like Hearst Castle, which is less than a 10 minute drive.

This place is incredibly dirty. My family and I stayed here in July and it was one of the worst stays I've ever experienced. The walls and showers were filthy. We all decided to skip the shower for the night. The room smelt dirty and musty. DO NOT LET THE PHOTOS FOOL YOU! This is not at all what you will get. I was hopeful when I saw how close this was to the water and it looked like it was a nice inn from the pictures. The walls are paper thin and every time our neighbors used the toilet or sink the pipes in the wall would screech. Will drive through next time.
