I brought in a Turkish Tribal Kilim that had a horrible cement stain. The cement had the chance to set overnight and I was devastated and though I had completely ruined a 4k rug. However the kind, professional folks at Istanbul Rug in San Rafael, not only cleaned it, but they hand tucked every loose thread and hand dyed each individual fiber to match the original colors and made it even better than before. To my amazement, I couldn't even tell where the original cement stain damage occurred. I would highly recommend Istanbul Rug a million times over! Thank you for saving my piece of art!!!!!!!

Istanbul Rug San Rafael just cleaned and repaired two antique rugs for me. One needed new side binding. The owner warned me that their employee who does it (by hand) is an artist and it is best to let him choose the colors. This being new to us, we asked that he choose colors from within the palate of the rug. He did and it turned out beautiful. Next time, I will probably give him free rein. The other rug needed to be cleaned. Our dog had peed on it repeatedly. In spite of treating with enzymes, it reeked! Furthermore, it had never laid flat which was annoying. When we picked up our rugs, they were both clean and smelled like NOTHING! The area rug had been very carefully blocked so as to make it lie flat. We could not be happier and the price was very reasonable. They clearly know how to care for old rugs and protect them for maximum life.

I had left a very beautiful Kelman antique at Istanbul for cleaning and for some repairs and I am very happy with the results. They were able to find the exact shades of wool to do the mending and it is very satisfying.They also cleaned very satisfactorily a Moroccan kilim which had been trampled with abandon by our golden retrievers who had left on it a lot of hair and sand from the beach as well as dust from the trails. I'm not surprised they have 5 stars! I was a bit apprehensive taking our antique rug anywhere, but they made it it super easy and stress free. They picked it up same day I called, even though I was a 30 minute drive away.Our cats had liked our delicate rug a little too much and they were able to clean it and make it look much better. We'll be a return customer when we take it back for repairs in a year or two. Thank you!

The entire team at Istanbul Rug was fantastic. We would absolutely work with them again. We have a treasured oriental rug that has been in our family for generations. It need cleaning and a bit of repair and the team at Istanbul Rug took care of it like it was their own. We had a flood at our place and someone placed our beautiful handwoven Tirolian rug on top of a piece of furniture that stained it. Their team came and picked up our rug, cleaned and stored it until we were finished with the restoration (above and beyond 6 months). Then they delivered it to us and installed it on our new bamboo floors. We are SO happy to have had this experience with Istanbul Rug and their polite and friendly employees!

I went to the San Rafael store and was greeted warmly by Mehmet and Murat who were really helpful to this first time purchaser of quality rugs. After choosing five possibles, I was invited to take my shoes off and walk on them, and literally get a feel for them . Both Mehmet and Murat were patient and kind and not at all aggressive. I walked out with two beautiful new rugs that I am excited to put in my new home.

We had 6 carpets cleaned and repaired; 2 kilim, 2 wool and 2 silk all of which are precious to us. Some were purchased by my wife in Nepal in the late 70's, one silk carpet was purchased by me in New Delhi in 1980, another silk carpet was purchasedin Kerala, India during an around the world year long adventure our family took in 2004. None of the carpets had ever been cleaned. I did not know how dirty they were. They look and feel beautiful now.

I enjoy them a lot.They have a huge selection of gorgeous rugs.The folks who run the store are very helpful and accommodating, bringing several rugs to my house for me to try out. They also provided pads for the rugs and are currently washing my old small Persian rugs at no cost. Don't be put off by the sometimes intimidating price tags.The owner's willingness to bargain made it possible for me to afford the rugs.

Istanbul Rug is a family business, with multiple generations working in their two stores. I have bought two rugs on different occasions from them and have been extremely happy with my purchases. They have a beautiful selection and are very knowledgeable about each piece they carry - what country it’s from, the symbolism within the design and what might be known about the specific weavers. They really bring each piece to life, in telling its story.Istanbul Rug has excellent service. They are very kind, patient and not pushy. They generously brought quite a number of rugs to my house, so I could see them in my rooms, which made all the difference in making my selection. After purchasing my latest rug, they delivered “just” a rug pad on a different day (which was at least a 45 minute drive, one way, for them to come to my house again) and installed it for me, after cutting it to the appropriate size on the spot.The really stand behind their products - they’ve told me multiple times that if I ever decide I don’t like or want one of my rugs anymore, they are willing to let me exchange for another, at any point in time! Also, I love knowing that they offer cleaning and repair services, should I need them in the future. I know we are well taken care of with them!

I had two Persian rugs cleaned and one of the rugs needed repair work along two seams. The service from beginning to end was excellent. While I was prepared to wait two weeks for the rigs and was surprised when I received a call 5 days after dropping off my rugs to let me know they were ready for pick up.The rugs look beautiful and the repairs are excellent.
