On the day I visited, looking to adopt a dog, front desk staff was indifferent. OK, so I figured they don't matter. I was brought out to meet a dog who was clearly a poor match. The volunteer who introduced me to the dog knew nothing about the first dog offered, and she was uninformed about other potential matches. Fortunately I have enough dog experience that I was not misled. I'm baffled why Woods is talked about as though they are the only adoption service in SLO. Go instead to the County Animal Services, where you'll find helpful, knowledgeable, caring people. I adopted my wonderful dog there in October 2023.

Took my English Mastiff "Boogie" to his last C.H.A.R.M. School class yesterday. Michelle and Skyler are excellent instructors and trainers--we have ALL learned so much from them...and Boogie has made a lot of progress.Really nice to see how well Michelle and Skyler work with a variety of dogs--such knowledgeable and patient trainers! I highly recommend these classes, and the entire Woods Facility is well done, and a safe environment.My gratitude to all the people and volunteers who work so hard to find good homes for SO many deserving pets.Thank you for all you do!!

What an amazing and patient group of people who truly love and care for the animals. I adopted from here and was blown away when I returned three months later and one of the staff members remembered my dogs name from across the yard! You just dont get that kind of attention at some of these other shelters. It NEVER stinks in there and I do not believe in the several times I have been there that there was even an accident on the floor. An amazing facility and I will be back!

Adopted Georgie from Woods on Monday. The staff was delightful and cared so much about all the babies.Georgie is getting used to his new home but he's not afraid to cuddle up in bed!Thanks Woods ❤️

They are the best! Everyone is so friendly and helpful. If your in need of a class for your new family member you can't go wrong. Who knew there was a class for frightened dogs! Yes there is and it is wonderful. What a difference since he graduated! Now for the manners class!

Such amazing people! We fell on hard times and couldn't keep our beloved dog at the only place we have to live, and they were really good to him. He was adopted within a week. The staff were all super friendly, understanding, and caring. They even called us to let us know he was adopted. We miss him so much, but they didn't add to our pain at all. I wish the people who adopted him had opted to contact us so I could send them pictures from he was a puppy and have an update on how he is doing, but we just pray that they're all happy together and that he has lots of love shown to him.

AMAZING and LOVING staff! I ask so many questions everywhere I go and sometimes get snobby and sassy attitude BUT Woods staff is so patient and understanding♡ They gave me the most precious pup. Knowing how scared he is of people and seeing him with staff just showed how loving of a staff they are. My pup was so comfortable with them!

They showed amazing kindness to a dog ("Clyde") that was there for seven months(!) until I adopted him. We went through obedience class for bonding/training purposes, and Clyde is now a well-adjusted part of our family. Thank you, Woods!

Woods is great! I got two of my dogs here, and they are really great people to work with. You get a free vet visit and awesome pack to take home. The people here genuinely care that the dogs go to good homes. They're a no-kill shelter, and they take really great care of the animals here. Very clean and great pets.

Clean environment with plenty of friendly and helpful staff members (and some volunteers) that are here to answer any questions or issues. The animals housing is open and easily accessed to meet and or find your new family furry members. The adoption process has also always been a pleasant and swift experience for my family.

Amazing staff, quite impressed with the cat facility. We got a nine week old kitten. Meet my "Wink"!..her sister was "Blink". "Wink" is in process for a newer, non-shelter name. Many wonderful adults and juvinals are waiting for fur-ever homes. Less mess and you already know what kinda cat it's going to be-less surprised ahead.I hope to volunteer there with my kiddo. Even if you can't adopt, you can impact the lives of these awesome animals by spending time with them, which helps prepare them for adoption with your love and attention.

Woods is an incredible facility! We adopted a wonderful dog from there in San Luis Obispo. They take incredible care of the animals. They are ready to be adopted because they have onsite Vets, are walked every day multiple times, and are given some training. The animals leave trim and healthy. The staff let's you know about the dogs personality as much as they can and any obvious health conditions. Very few animals are returned. I love this place! The staff is devoted to the animals. The facility is funded by donations. We have a rescued Pitbull originally named Tex. We renamed him Buddy and he's the king 👑of our home now. Thank you Woods and Phil for helping us find our fur baby!

Woods seems to be more interested in quota than placing animals in the right home. Watched my friend who is not a dog trainer adopt a dog that had a history of biting people and still does, with no follow up. She should have not been given a dog like that. It was plain to see she could not socialize it. Just witnessed another adoption to a family that already have 2 dogs in a small condo with 3 people in Grover Beach. I love animals, but this is why I am not a fan of Woods. Other trainers I have spoke with witness the same thing with Woods.

Last time I went to Woods it was a friendly environment. Today I went to see dogs and see which one I bonded with. Surprise you need to pick one, and they bring it. That isn't good for a person wanting to see, and feel the dogs. Sadly, I can't do it that way. Went next door to SLO Animal Services and got to visit all the animals. Found a guy, who isn't available today, but soon. Disappointed in changes at woods, sure they have reasons but it isn't fair, to the dogs that aren't cute in picture, but have it in person.

I love Woods, the animals are wonderful! I just adopted Miss Freesia last weekend and I just love her. Everyone was wonderful and explained the entire process. I definitely recommend going to Woods!

Adopted my sweet Munchie here - they include a bag of food and all the essentials like shots, chip, spay/neuter, etc. Wonderful experience and great staff. Knew I made the right choice instantly coming here.
